We arrived about 10:30 on a Saturday evening and basically had the dance floor to ourselves ! the DJ was fantastic and played all our requests ! I had been seeing clips of RetroClub NYC on Instagram and TikTok for about one year and always had in my head to check it out, as I'm an old-school gal who loves 70's, 80s, and 90's music. Finally, I decided to get a group together for this past Saturday night to celebrate my 63rd birthday. I have to admit I didn't know what to expect and was hoping it would be good so that my friends didn't get pissed that I dragged them out to NYC at 10pm (we are at the age where we now go to sleep by 8pm!) I must say that RetroClub FAR EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS! Simply stated, we had an absolute blast...such a great time. Leading up to the night, I corresponded with Jeff several times concerning my guest list, what to expect there, etc.,...I'm anal to the point of being annoying, yet he was always ever so nice and really quick to respond. Night of, we met some really nice people outside the venue...everyone we encountered was in such an "up" mood, friendly and ready to dance. Well, my crew danced literally non-stop from 10pm to 2am...we all had such a ball and didn't want the night to end. It was so great hearing music that I hadn't heard in quite a while! Jeff is the DJ, and he did an awesome job of keeping everything and everyone moving. This is not a club. It is a restaurant that moves the tables to the side and turns on disco lights at 10pm. They bang you for $20 at the door and another $5 for each coat. They advertise dance music from the 70s, 80s and 90s but when we made requests for 'anything Madonna' the douche DJ said "No, Madonna is not the vibe" WHAT? and proceeded to play Celebrate by Kool and the Gang. Would you want to pay a $15 CASH ONLY cover to dance in an italian restaurant? The shakedown begins at the door and never relents. I advise you consider staying home and dancing to Spotify -- the DJ here (on a Saturday evening!) was not only horrible at his job, but also had a disgusting attitude that permeated every aspect of the night. Watch out for Uncle Lurch, the older bald gentleman who works as a "dance floor hype man," creepily sweating on any woman who has the misfortune to enter his dance orbit or eyeline. Are we having fun yet? In a city with thousands of better dance spots and bars, why spend your time and money on such a poor experience? This is such a fun place to go to. My friends suggested we go here on a Friday night because it didn't cater to the young sect! Not that I'm so old, but I'm older than 30 and didn't want to hang with 30 year olds!! Love the place-pop in upstairs for $10 and dance the night away. The deli restaurant is on the first floor and music is on the 2nd.We were a whole bunch - probably 10 of us so it was a blast! We could dance; get a drink and just hang with a friend or two! This place is an absolute joke! First off, it isn't a club but rather just a restaurant with the tables moved. It does not justify a $15 cover charge. Second, the music is horrible. They advertised 70s, 80s and 90s but it was probably about 80% 70s tunes. The DJ is a douche as well. The rapper Fat Man Scoop passed away the day before and when I asked him to play his songs he completely blew me off. What kind of DJ shows such disrespect for a musical icon? I'll never go again. Nothing to consider. Heard about this place online. Went to this establishment in hopes of reserving the place for a birthday party. My bf and I were granted permission by Tony the bouncer. After paying $40 (included ent. fee plus coat check) headed straight to the bar to wait and wait. 10 minutes later, Tony approaches my boyfriend, rip his hat off stating "There's a no hat policy" screaming and acting like he's a hood rat. I asked him to calm down as he proceeded to tell me to STFU and gtfo of the club. At this age, you'd think acting like an adult and enforcing a "no hat" policy would've been enforced BEFORE entering. This is a total bait and switch. It appears to just be a travelIng DJ. Not a club. Don't listen to reviews that say this club is in Times Square - Maybe it used to be but it isn't anymore. We took an Uber to (what apparently was) the old Times Square location only to find out it was actually in Midtown East. That's not a horrific distance away UNLESS it's pouring down rain and the Ubers are surging. We walked in a downpour all the way to the new address only to find a restaurant where they just moved the tables around and had a DJ playing bad music. We paid $20 to get walk in the door and stayed only long enough to find another Uber to get us to a real club. read more

I've been wanting to come here for ages, and this past weekend was my birthday so I got my friends to come out with me. We mostly had a lot of fun, and I would go back. But there were a couple things that drove us nuts: The Michael Jackson impersonator was totally unnecessary and ruined the mood for a bit. I read about this place in an article online that said this bar catered to the 30-35 crowd. The crowd was definitely much older. Think 40+. My friend and I were definitely the youngest people there (33 y/o). We had high hopes for this place, but what ultimately killed the evening was the bar service. We sat there for over 5 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge us, the place was pretty empty, too. When the bartender finally got to us my friend asked for a drink menu. Bartender comes back with a laminated drink menu which included an extensive list of signature cocktails, regular drinks, beer, and wine. My friend ordered a custom made drink, and I ordered a simple glass of merlot. My friend's drink was $10, and mine was $11. The bartender poured my wine and brought it to me, and it took all I had in me to not laugh in her face. See my photo. What she gave me was utterly ridiculous. On top of the amount, the wine was terrible. It tasted like an opened month old bottle of spoiled red wine. I couldn't even drink it. My friend gets her drink and the bartender gives us back our change. We both paid with $20s and my friend got back $8 and I got back $8. My friend goes, "how much were our drinks??" and the bartender responds with: Yours was $10 and hers (my wine) isssss likeeeee $11 and change. She said it like this. As if she was just making up a price. We pointed to the prices on the menu she provided us and she then gave my friend her missing $2 and then pranced away and didn't return my money because my wine came out to "11.98 with tax." Yes. This is actually what she said. She flat out told me not to pay attention to the menu prices because those were "happy hour prices." If this had actually been true, why would she have given us a happy hour menu when we requested it? And let's say this was true. So you're telling me that for happy hour at this place you can get an $11 glass of wine instead of the usual $11.98???? What??? So which is it? is it a happy hour price difference or tax? And if we weren't supposed to be paying attention to those prices, why was my friend's drink the price on the menu??? And if it was because of tax, why did my friend's drink not get taxed???? Literally nothing about this experience made any sense. It's as if she was just making up some BS to explain why I was being ripped off. Granted it was 98 cents, not going to break the bank, but it's the principle, and they have some balls charging $12 for that pathetic glass I received. I did question the bartender. I asked her if what I received was their standard glass of wine. She said that she got that comment a lot, but that the glass was big, and the amount that was in there was a full standard glass of wine. You could have fooled me. I duno. I've been drinking wine at bars and restaurants for years and I've never seen this. It was a regular stemless wine glass. The place itself is pretty weird. There's no windows in the place and there is no signage to indicate where this place is. Just someone sitting outside on a stool in front of a black door, and a small sign that says "Bar" over it. In all fairness, I can promise Yelp readers that if I am ever in that area again and I am in Manhattan quite often, I am going to pop in on a Friday or Saturday night at midnight just to see if I need to update my review to a higher rating. As of now I will say that clearly the owner is delusional with the ridiculous responses to the majority of the reviews. I have yet to see any club have as many negative reviews as this joint and each and every review has a rebuttal from someone who is clearly not getting the message. This place SUCKS! I really love 70-2000's music but when the transitions between songs do not even make any sense, it is very difficult to even want to get on the EMPTY dance floor! 1. We stayed for 1 hour, and we waited that hour in order to wait for all of our guests so we could ALL move on to the next place TOGETHER. 2. We also chose to stay that one hour to not only wait for our friends, but to pray it would start getting better AND to finish our super crappy watered down overpriced drink in a plastic cup! 3. We left at 11ish because as already stated there were only 3 young ladies and an old man on the dance floor and we CLEARLY heard the DJ announce LAST CALL and then the place got even darker and gloomier than when we first walked in. Attended the RetroClub 3 weeks ago with mom & friends. My mom's disco/freestyle dance era. Always hear this music at home. Very convenient - deli restaurant on the 1st floor and music on the second. Enjoyed both - can't beat that. In my late 20s and must say this is the place to be - most inviting and Jeff the DJ keeps you on your feet. Jeff is so hip as to what the crowd wants to hear to dance to and plays the right mood. This environment is fun for all ages. Age range and culture varies - no discrimination here. The gray haired bartender then told me it was for the restaurant so the mojito I wanted in a small plastic cup (I got a larger glass the 1st time and was told by him that the other server made a mistake) was $14, not $9, on top of which they automatically added a 20% gratuity which is also kind of obnoxious since the service was rather rude. The bartender said there was no drink menu which seems awfully suspect because then the prices can be whatever the bartender says. I'm an old soul that just loves the oldies .. the vibe was fun, all different kinds of people, all different ages .. at first, I wasn't too happy they moved right in the heart of touristville Times Square, but it ended up being fun anyway.. enjoyed the Moscow mules & the bartender was good considering it was very busy.. he was the only bartender on the side of the bar I was on .. still didn't have to wait that long to get a drink . I rarely write reviews but I am shaken by what was done to my friends and I tonight, by both a predatory guest and the staff/security team who abetted him. Do not support this establishment. The treatment we received was degrading, unethical, and entirely unacceptable. My friends and I were harassed and verbally attacked by a man who tried to hit on us. We asked him to please leave us alone and he started yelling at us and calling us nasty, misogynistic names. Expecting that this establishment cared about the safety and well-being of their guests, we asked the staff to please remove this man from the bar. After briefly speaking with him, the manager said that the man was just drunk and to let them know if he bothered us again. We insisted that the man be removed or that we would be leaving, as we felt scared and violated. The manager then agreed and told me he would "get him out." Two security officers came over and we explained the situation. I heard the man tell one of the security guards that I was a "b****". Then the manager came over to us again and said the man was "a regular" and suggested we move away from him. Again, I refused and asked if we could just get our money back for the cover charge and leave, as we had only entered the bar shortly before the incident occurred. He directed us to a woman working at the front with a cash box. She said that because we had stayed longer than 10 minutes she couldn't give us back our money. I explained the situation to her, and told her that the manager had assured me early on that he would get rid of the man who had harassed us, which we had waited for but never happened. I asked him directly to back me up on this and he admitted that he had said that. However, the two of them continued to refuse to reimburse us. The woman was very hostile about it and wouldn't give us any contact information for her supervisor or someone else we could speak to about it. It wasn't until I finally told them that if they refused to either remove the man or give us our money back, I would have no other choice than to call the police in order to file a report. I informed them that what that man had done was a crime, and that it was inexcusable that they not only neglected their customers' safety, but would continue to mistreat us themselves. After repeating myself a few times, they begrudgingly gave us our money back and we left. This was a terrible situation that was handled inappropriately by all involved. I would not suggest coming to this bar, especially if you are a woman, because they proved tonight that they will prioritize dangerous and abusive men over you and your safety. read more

Lots of people 40+ and a handful of 20s and 30-somethings. Older, COOLER bartenders. They have a coat check yay! Bouncer is actually friendly and hilarious. This place is not stuck up or uninviting like so many other clubs in lower Manhattan. Yes, the DJ needs some help with transitioning in between songs, but I'll take that over a bunch of 20 something bro dudes harassing me on the dance floor while my head explodes with every monotonous "drop" coming from the DJ booth. The first time I went I wasn't really impressed but I figured I'd give it another chance since it was fairly new. The second time wasn't much better and this time there was a $10 cover charge. The "DJ" doesn't really DJ, they/he just plays one record after the next. Anyone can do that with a playlist and then just walk away. He also didn't have many songs available to play because they were downstairs in the vault or he just didn't know what the songs were. I was with my husband (we're 32 & 35) and there were definitely other people our age there. The big issue the club needs to resolve ASAP is that the DJ is terrible.They couldn't transition between songs correctly, which made for really awkward dancing, and they could not read the room. 3 different times the dancefloor audibly groaned when they switched songs from something terrific that everyone was loving to something average. But I cannot be upset about the crowd, that is not the bar's fault. The service though, that is something I can be upset about. We came around 930-945pm on Saturday night and the bar was pretty empty. It took about 5-10 minutes for the waitress to come over to us (I could see that she wasnt doing anything). When she finally came over we looked at the menu and ordered. A glass of wine and a shirley temple with vodka (I know I drink like a child).The waitress 100% looked confused on how to make a shirley temple, she should have asked, cause whatever she gave me was gross. The wine my friend got was laughable. The menu said $11 for a glass of wine, which isnt even what I would call this, a thimble maybe. When she had to pay the waitress said "It's $11 and change" not even the exact amount. My drink was $10. I gave her a twenty and got back $8. So, I was pretty confused. Happened upon this place by accident last year and have since been a huge fan! This place is great! Its full of nostalgia and perfect for your young "old souls" as well. The only downside are the drink prices. Unfortunately they are "Theatre District" prices, meaning most are $15-20 and are pretty weak. It may not seem like a lot but coming in from Queens and passing by many other cool places in LIC and Astoria it is. The only thing that keeps me coming back is the music!! The first night I went with some family and since then I have brought more family, young and old to enjoy the great music. We spent the whole night dancing to favorite 70's, 80's and 90's music. I have read some of the reviews on here and they really don't do this place nor the Dj Jeff any justice. As a early 30s man, The crowd was more of the older crowd, think your parents. It was mostly 70/80s with a mix of 90s and todays music. The DJ was really bad at transitioning between songs Otherwise it was poppin, as it's still brand new My actual problem with this place is their bartenders and service. SLOW, very very SLOW. I'm also sure they were ignoring me and my date as we may have looked a lot younger than the normal crowd. I was literally waiting for 10mins until a bartender actually asked what I wanted... Did I mention they're SLOW? yea, they seem to have inexperienced bartenders here. Also I had ordered water and the bartender told me that their "tap/well water" is contaminated, prolly just a stupid scheme for them to try to charge me to buy bottle water...Why would you tell a customer that your water is contaminated!? Love Retroclubnyc!!! Every time I come into the city to meet with friends we struggle to agree on a place to go out, as we all have very different tastes in music. When we heard about this place we had to check it out. This is the first club that had the music that each of us wanted to hear. The Dj was playing all of the best songs from the 70s through the 90's with a mix of some current hits as well. They have a really cool drink menu and friendly bartenders who gave awesome service to the hundreds of people dancing the night away.
