Both instructors are excellent teachers. They have different styles, but both are committed to the practice and having students really focus on doing the exercise properly. You can get a full body workout if you listen, follow the instructions and allow yourself to explore, as Avry puts it, "the pleasant edge of discomfort". She also reminds students that every pose is optional, and take step to allow student to build strength and add on to the level of difficulty when they are ready. Margie's Wednesday class is wonderful, she is so knowledgeable and I find her dedication inspiring. Her class is a bit more difficult, which I enjoy. The senior center is vibrant, there a workshops, Clubs, Guest Speakers, Movies, Trips, etc... I find it charming, the community of people here. When I arrive in the morning, there's a group enjoying coffee together, they always say Good Morning. The staff is really great and there are youth volunteers that must get some school credit for being there which also add to the charm and vitality of the Senior Center. Upon observing the Langley Senior Center, I noticed numerous senior citizens leaving with boxes, some carrying several. I understand that they distribute 200 food boxes each Friday. The distribution follows a first-come, first-served system, with individuals arriving early in the morning to obtain their food boxes. In addition, Monterey Park also arranges a monthly food distribution at Barnes Park. To participate, one must submit an application, provide identification, and furnish proof of residency in Monterey Park. My friend takes advantage of the transportation services by contacting the Langley Senior Center.

As part of the Beginning Line Dance Adult Class (SU26-4219), our class's official schedule is from 7:15 PM - 8:15 PM PDT. Last week on Tuesday, July 21, this employee in question, barged into the class slightly past 8:00 PM PDT and started yelling at us that class is over, with no respect or regard for the teacher either. He then started moving chairs every which way to begin stacking, except as a full class of 35 people, and on many occasions, over 35, we are already jam packed in there, so this male employee swinging chairs around carelessly in an attempt to rush us out of there while we are in the middle of class is extremely reckless and dangerous. Especially since this class has multiple students who are elderly. Is it a value of the Arcadia Recreation Team to have employees be rude to students who largely are from the young children and elderly age group? Is there a lack of training to this team, such that employees think it is okay to yell and disrupt a class that students have paid for and has not reached the designated ending time set by the city?  I feel in danger when I see this male barge in, as he clearly has no respect and is extremely hot headed. If he is in such a rush to end his shift, perhaps he should not be assigned to this evening time slot.  My family and I have been students in multiple classes since 2017, and never has there been an employee who treated a class with this level of disrespect. Multiple other students in this Tuesday class were unhappy with his behavior and called him out, only for him to continue shouting at us as he ignored us and stormed out of the classroom. If these are the values shown in experiences at Arcadia Recreation Center, I will have to end my time taking classes here this season, even though we have attended classes since 2017 and have taken Line Dance Class for the last 3 years. This is extremely disappointing service and disturbing behavior for an employee of the City of Arcadia to have.

The facility is very bright clean and has a very fresh feel about it. They offer classes for seniors which is only a dollar. You have to join and the membership is only $10 for one year which is a great bargain!!! I have met some very nice people. There is no parking lot for this facility so you park on the streets. Be aware of the time limit and parking and Glendale is notorious for giving out tickets if you don't curb your wheels.

Brand-new, with an extensive array of activities available on-site, the place seems more like a luxury hotel than a place where old folks park themselves in the lobby chairs and stare at you over their walkers as you enter. Library, card room, art classes and studio, full gym with personal trainer on duty, heated pool and spa, grab-and-go deli area, wellness office with RNs, memory unit, beautiful grounds, secure parking, etc. The challenge is that the residences require a buy-in, typically in the hundreds of thousands of dollars or more, which amount is explained to be 90% refundable upon the apartment being vacated and re-sold to the next purchaser. Once accepted, you then pay a monthly "rent" of some thousands (which appears to be less than the monthly rate at many assisted living locations) out of which rent there is a monthly food allowance. In addition to knowing your financial capability they require a physical evaluation to be sure you can handle the level of independence required. The regular dining room has an extensive menu, and the food prices are deducted from the monthly food allowance which is part of the monthly rental fee, which means the food is much better and more varied than the two-choices/all-in-one meal fee charged by other assisted living places, where the food is often tasteless and of poor quality. If you buy more than your monthly food allowance has allotted, you get a bill to make up the difference. There is also a weekends-only upscale restaurant which is suitable for families joining a resident for dinner during weekend visits. The place is very clean and beautifully decorated, with the smart choice of handsome carpet squares instead of wall-to-wall in the hallways, for easy replacement in case of spills. The public areas are lined with good artwork, there's a large library, and there are many apartment floor plans to choose from, with large rooms and beautiful kitchen areas, balconies, and frequently there are powder rooms in addition to double-sink master bathrooms. More independent residents may decide to take an apartment in one of the villas rather than in the main building. Overall there's real thoughtfulness and excellence in the design and implementation of this place, and it's very "country club" in feel, so be prepared for sticker shock. Residents I spoke to were all extremely complimentary about Monte Cedro -- they loved it there. But who wouldn't?
