We had a wonderful time riding around with Roger on our recent tour. I asked him to surprise me with our winery itinerary and he did not disappoint. My parents and younger sister (who are not avid good wine drinkers) were visiting and LOVED the tour! We also had an 8 month and 7 year old children with us and Roger made sure everywhere we went was accommodating. We did the winery lunch option and it was totally worth it. The staff was great about communicating with us in advance to recommend wineries to visit and confirm pick-up time and location. Karen arrived on-time and took us on a full day tour that was absolutely perfect. Each winery (Arlen, Solena Estate, Granville, Argyle) was unique and pacing throughout the day was just-right. We had plenty of time to ask questions and hear stories behind each of the wineries. Karen set up a lovely charcuterie board on the patio at one of the stops- meat, cheese, hummus, bread, and fruit. Roger and Tesla Custom Winery Tours did a great job. We had a group of 14, varied wine experience from brand new to members of multiple wine clubs. Roger was able to schedule three different styles (high-end, boutique, and small private) to ensure there was something for everyone. We found Roger online and couldn't resist splurging for a day visiting wineries being driven around in an oh-so cool Tesla SUV. Roger picked us up at 10 at our hotel in the wine country and we spent the day visiting 4 boutique wineries. Roger was great working with me up front to tailor the stops to our desire to visit small, artisanal places and avoid the big mass market brands and corporate empires that seem to snatch up all the little gems. Our first stop was Alexana where we learned about the 22 soil types found in the region while savoring the wines and the view from their stylish and sleek hilltop estate. Next we were off to Blakeslee Estate where we tasted their just released Rose and several other notable wines including their unique white Pinot. Here Roger also laid out a lavish spread of meats and cheeses along with sandwich fixings for a perfect picnic lunch by the infinity pool. After lunch we headed off to tiny Natalie Wines where we met owner/vintner/farmer/tasting room host Boyd and tried his delicious reds including merlot and Cabernet. To cap off the day we indulged in a seated prestige tasting at Domaine Serene and sampled their highly acclaimed products. While not a requirement, we bought wine at each stop which in some cases waived the tasting fees which were ($15-$40 pp at each winery). Of great fun was riding around in the rocket-ship on wheels and marveling at the technology, speed and elegance of the Tesla SUV (only $125,000!). She went above and beyond to make the time with us memorable. We road in the Volvo and it was comfortable riding from downtown Portland to wine country each day. Karen was knowledgeable, friendly and always had a smile on her face. She made us feel like family, which is so lovely when your with someone for two days. We didn't get the Tesla cause it was booked but we got a huge Mercedes Sprinter van which was super convenient for my family and I to get in and out of. There were 6 of us. We had Matt takes us to 3 hand selected wineries. I was overwhelmed by number of wineries in The Willamette Valley, I wouldn't have known how to pick which ones to visit. He picked out 3 amazing wineries. We LOVED all 3. Matt was super attentive and kept us on schedule but never in a pushy way. While visiting the area, my sister arranged for a Tesla wine tour. Our driver picked us up promptly from home in a Tesla SUV. There were four adults in our party and while we could have climbed over the middle seat to put someone in the back, three of us took the seat in the middle and one rode shotgun. The three of us in the middle felt a little cramped by the end of the day so the Tesla better serves a couple rather than the double couples. The thrill of riding a Tesla was lost on the tour too, since there are no opportunities to show the power these vehicles have, but of course our driver had to obey the speed limits and drive responsibly for the duration of the tour. It was a super smooth ride and so nice to have a trustworthy driver while the passengers spent the day sampling wine. Our driver was very knowledgeable and we learned so much about the wineries and the area. he gave us just the right amount of information, company, and privacy. We stopped at four wineries total so some of the stops felt a little rushed doing the tastings. Our favorite stop by far was Solena Estates where the people were friendly and the setting peaceful. Our driver brought out an impressive picnic lunch for us to enjoy on the deck at Solena. They even had beer to choose from for my non-wine-appreciating husband. The driver did mention we could get "travelers" as other groups had, but warned of a pricey cleaning fee should anyone overindulge too much. With the custom tours you do have options to visit wineries of your choice so you can tailor the tour to meet your preferences. Overall the tour provided an educational and classy experience so it was worth the price. read more
