Called to place an order directly with the store to avoid a middleman and give the business directly to the brick and mortar. They said same day delivery was possible, so I went ahead and ordered, specifically saying No Fall Colors... but that's what showed up. I called to express my appreciation for same day delivery, but my disappointment with the colors. The female I spoke with said "they'll let them know"... Honestly, that phrase doesn't mean much to me. It feels like something you say to brush someone off.... I thought ordering direct would be better, but I feel for $100, the arrangement could have been better put together, or at the very least no fall colors. read more

Not sure if this is common with this place but it's my experience. Spent $100 on flowers for my partner. Wanted the same flowers we had at our wedding and paid extra for the "deluxe" package. Got the wrong flowers. Called talked to two very polite people who at the end of the day offered nothing but their apologies and a promise to "do better" next time. Oh they also said they were out of the flowers wanted so the "tried to match the color" and since it was a next day order they could not call me, even though my number was provided, to tell me they could not fulfill my order. My dad and mum were small business owners, and I guess they instilled in my an expectation of quality customer service. This place has great reviews and that's good if people received better treatment than my partner and I. I do kind of feel like they just wanted my money and didn't bother to call. Which is not very nice. Since I posted the above review the business did make it right. read more

This local florist was available to take a custom order which was a white rose with some baby's breath boutonnière for my daughter's prom date. Wegmans is usually our go to but custom orders were not available and we did not want to take a chance that their general stock on the day of prom would not include white roses. Needless to say, we picked up our order of the tiniest little boutonnière and was unaware that they would be using sweetheart roses. Now my daughter's prom date is 6 ft tall and 200 lbs so we figured this would be lost on him. We lucked out at Wegmans to get a sizable boutonnière for $16 less. I did call and they were willing to refund upon return. Hence they earned their stars for that. We kept it instead for our 13 lb Yorkie who would've loved to have gone to the prom as well. read more

Four nosegays ordered. Paid $100.00 each. I know.... REALLY? Two were quite pretty with streamers and tightly formed. Had taped handles. Two others were just a bunch of flowers put together. Stems free. No taped handle. Two flowers drooping from lack of water.... In frig and watering trying to revive before presented. Additionally I asked to pick up first order at 2:00. No one called me to tell me they wouldn't be ready. Luckily I called to confirm and learned they wouldn't be ready until 4:00. Made that work. Young girls working counter both times were exceptional. Friendly and doing their job so well. One did a pretty flower lay that was prettier than nosegay and 1/4 the price. All okay. Lesson learned. I would like to say I'm extremely disappointed because I was trying to do something nice for my mom on Mother's Day. At first, I was under the impression that I would receive a black vase but received a clear vase instead. Also, the picture does not look like in person when it comes to the amount of roses that I expected. Lastly, I paid for delivery to be received on May 12 and the flowers came on May 11 a day before what I had paid for and I am not satisfied with this service and ruin the Mother's Day surprise. Very disappointing experience with the Mother's Day corsage. I picked the corsage up around 3:30 in the afternoon on Saturday for use on Sunday morning. I refrigerated it within 20 minutes of picking it up. It did not look fresh in the morning. I have bought many corsages over the years and never had a problem with them looking fresh after an overnight in the refrigerator. Furthermore, there was nothing to indicate that a wrist corsage was the default and not a chest pin-on. Perhaps it would have lasted longer as a chest pin-on. As it was the corsage began falling apart almost immediately. Whether the flowers used were simply too fragile or were not attached strongly enough I do not know. I think it was a combination - the petals of the white blooms began falling and the entirety of others fell as well. We attended church, visited my dad's grave and went to brunch - by the time we got to brunch the corsage was essentially gone except for the ribbon and some green sprigs. The wrist strap itself was a "one-size-fits-all". But it most definitely did not fit a woman with a very small wrist. As there had been no indication that it was a wrist corsage, I had no opportunity to let them know that my mother was tiny and had a small wrist circumference. As the corsage did not stay firmly in place - even when put over the top of her sleeve, this, I am sure, contributed to the quick disintegration of the corsage. Growing up in the area I had always used florists at Hollin Hall shopping center on Ft. Hunt and the one in the old Beacon Mall for my flower and corsage needs - proms, Mother's Day, birthdays, etc. This was my first time using this florist and I doubt I will ever do so again. read more

My son sent me a beautiful arrangement of Lavender roses with special greenery added. The roses are 10 days old and not one petal has fallen and they are gorgeous. The staff was very accommodating and even allowed him to go in the back to handpick. Great store! read more

Now that mother's day is over, I can share the mortifying experience I had with The Virginia Florist this weekend. I ordered the bouquet in the first picture on Friday. The other pictures are what I got. And although my Mother was so grateful, this absolutely pissed me TF off!! I wouldn't give this establishment a penny even if I spit and peed on it.... When I made the order I received an email that told me to call about the pick up time. I called Saturday morning, and the rep I spoke with ASKED ME "What time would you like to pick up your order?" she did not say "we're super busy and will fulfill your orders as soon as possible" or anything along those lines. Their calls are recorded so if they want to lie it's on the recording! Anywho, I told them 2pm. She put it in. I came a few minutes after 2pm. The line was poppin in there they were in there looking overwhelmed, but in my mind y'all should expect this for mother's day because I'm sure this is annual, so *shrug*. I tell them my name and these mfs tell me my order's not ready yet. I try to be calm, the manager/owner whatever he is (some older white gentlemen) says "could you comeback in maybe an hour? If we have the flowers we'll get this done for you"...The heck you mean "if you have them"??? That was strike 2 for me. I come back alittle over an hour later (3:36pm). The same guy tells me "they're finishing up, can you hang out here and spend some more money hahaha"... ...so I stand to the side for about 15 mins. He comes out with the bouquet in the other pictures. Maybe I'm blind but these look nothing alike they just both have roses and some greenery. But where is that lavender accents? These ain't even the same size. Just all wrong. At this point I'm holding back tears because I actually want to curse this man tf out for playing in my face in front of a packed store. He says "this was the best we could do with what we have, it's a very busy time" -- again, not my effing problem you should be tracking your orders and inventory. I say "what about the card" I give him my phone with the card showing, do y'all see the card he made? Didn't go no fancy font or anything!!!! I asked about a partial refund. He gave me $20. This was not worth $80 in my opinion. And I'm no florist but most people don't know I took a floral arrangement class before lol. When it comes to symmetry I have an eye for that but even a blind person could see how off this bs was!!! To finish it off, after he gave me the $20, this man says to me: "Come back when it's not such a busy time".....WHAT THE HECK???? I literally cannot think of when I was last disrespected on this level MULTIPLE times!! I left that place shaking in anger and eyes welding because I was holding back so hard. IF this MF really think I'm EVER giving even a dirty pissed on penny to this place they are TRIPPIN!!! Moral of the story, at minimum, do not use the Virginia Florist when you are in a time crunch. I ordered flowers for my mom (back in Nov) for her 80th bday. Delivery was to be 12/30. They delivered a Christmas bouquet on 12/23 with my bday message. I was a bit sad since the surprise was now ruined. I talked to the owner who said they would deliver the bouquet I requested on 12/30. My mom just got the bouquet. It is fine. I am sad because it is a fine bouquet, not a lovely bouquet like the photo I asked for. All they had to do was add a pretty bow and it would have made it a pretty bouquet vs a fine one. I know the actual bouquet will only be similar to the one in the photo. It would not have taken much to make it look prettier. I like supporting local, but I found another local florist who went above and beyond today since I was not sure if Va Florist would be able to follow through. read more

I asked for a presentation bouquet on very short notice (same day), BUT I wanted it to be a bouquet the recipient could keep as a memento. I had seen some tulips in the shop previously that looked real, but I learned they were not. So I requested those be in the bouquet. I LOVED it and so did the recipient and everyone else! Although these were "everlasting" flowers, they looked, and even felt real!!! People kept smelling them!! These guys are my go to florists. My second time using their services but will certainly be back. Located in Belle View near my house, the shop is a staple in the Old Town/Huntington/Belle View neighborhood. They absolutely nailed the flowers I ordered for my anniversary and they executed the arrangement for my wife's birthday. Service A+, Price A+, Variety A+. They do have online delivery service as well as personal in store accounts. I would greatly suggest going in and describing exactly what you want (as supposed to other yelpers). The personal touch and expert knowledge of their on premise staff will far exceed the experience of anything you will experience via online and delivery. Ordered the 'deluxe' package of Tulips. Not sure what I paid for with the upgrade, but they looked nice to m. As I was picking them up one of the flowers looked a bit droopy. I asked the nice lady if that was an issue and she said "no, that's what they do." Fast forward 2.5 days--nearly all of the tulips are drooping all the way to the counter and it looks like a dead bouquet. Bottom line--I don't think I'll be ordering from these folks again. -- Update (June): the company made contact and took 100% accountability for the above. I'm so happy that I found this shop! I was in the area and wanted to order flowers from a local florist. When I arrived I was surprised to see all of the neat things they sold there. I spoke to Ann who was amazingly helpful and funny! She took me in the back to pick out the color roses I wanted in the arrangement. She asked me my budget and the rest is history! She told me that they closed at 4 and that the flowers would arrive around the noon hour. Much to my surprise they were there before noon!! The receiver was super happy with the beautiful arrangement, as was I when I saw it tonight! I highly recommend them and will be using them again for my future floral needs! read more

I was surprised by some of the negative reviews of this store, for I have used Virginia Florist on several and have found this store to be quit good. They really excel at creating gift baskets for all occasions. My first was a baby shower basket; I had spent about seven months collect baby treasures from all over the world, and they created a display that was better than anything I could've ever imagined. Since then I have used them for several other endeavors and have never been disappointed. I also like to browse their shop for unique items. Not only did the flowers come late for my mom's citizenship party (they were supposed to get there in the morning), they charged a $12 delivery fee I wasn't aware of, the owner told me to bump up the cost so I could send something "real nice" and they sent 3 hydrangeas.... Now I did suggest hydrangeas, but if I had known it would only be 3 for $65 I would've gotten something else. When I called to let the owner know what had happened, he said that he would take extra special care of me next time. What about reimbursing me for the delivery fee I didn't know I'd have to pay for? Valentine's day is a special occasion for me so when John hand delivered my long stem roses, I was ecstatic. I noticed that they were already practically fully bloomed and one or two of them were slightly bent and limp. He dropped by Virginia Florist before coming to my house. It was during midday and they didn't need recutting at that time of day. How do you tell your SO that these flowers are not going to last long. On Wednesday, day number four they were limb and bent over. I tried all I could to salvage the bunch by cutting them at an angle with a sharp knife, tossing in an aspirin, nothing helped. Today they are an eyesore and I will be tossing them out. He used Virginia Florist because he lives in the neighborhood. He was over my place last night and I could tell he was disapointed by the look on his face after seeing my dozen of red roses. What a bummer. I doubt very seriously that he will ever use them again. I am so glad I didn't read these reviews before I ordered. I placed an order for next day delivery of an arrangement of yellow tulips for the mother and grandmother of a friend of mine. I am not currently in Virginia but wanted the flowers delivered there. Customer service was absolutely awesome. The flowers were beautiful and well-priced. The ladies were surprised and loved the flowers. The delivery charge is quite expensive at $20 compared to others being between $10-$15. But I chose them because of the selection. I will use them again. Unfortunately, no one got a picture of the flowers. read more

I've spent a lot of time interviewing florists, who are approved vendors for wedding events held at the Ft. Belvoir Officers Club. Far and away, Shakeila at The Virginia Florist in Belle View Shopping Center is the best. Not that it matters a great deal, but the store front is absolutely charming and you want to hang out and browse. Our meeting was held in the back of the shop where all the flower designing action takes place, which I love. Shakelia was flexible and willing to accommodate the bride's wishes where none of the other vendor florists were. She also gave us great ideas to get more for our money. We're looking forward to working with her and will be back to Yelp in June to let you know how the arrangements are. read more

My younger sister bought a boutonnière and they told her it would be $15 over the phone when she ordered and she gets there to pick it up and its $20 and the lady tried to tell her there was a $5 sales tax because of "Uncle Sam"(terrible joke) then they rushed her out and didn't try and explain the price difference... I have always shopped at the Belle View shop, but the other day I spotted some glasses that I really liked in the window of the Hollin Hall location. I entered, walked around, finally put the glasses on the counter, but no one seemed to be working in the shop. I finally went to the back and asked if there was anyone who could take my money........... Purchased a dozen roses in a box for Valentines day for 125 dollars. I was disappointed in the quality. a number of the roses had black tips and looked wilted on the edges. It could be their storage room was too cold however I am not a florist. Next door was Safeway and I could have purchased the same quality at half the price. lesson learned. read more

This florist sent out a pathetic arrangement that cost $73 total to a friend of mine. I saw the pictures of the arrangement and was absolutely shocked. It was nothing like I ordered. While I understand that sometimes they have to substitute flowers, there should be some resemblence of what was supposed to be. My friend got a vase of shrubs, that filler purple stuff and a few roses and carnations; probably cost them $10 at the most. I was embarrassed that my friend thought I would send her something like that. I sent the owner the pictures but he said he would not refund me the total amount which is what I wanted. Each year, my husband sends me a bouquet of flowers for my birthday. This year, he somehow ordered the flowers through The Virginia Florist--this was the first time with this florist (and the last). The delivery guy (and he was young) delivered my arrangement to my next door neighbor, who he reports was on a bike. The house, where the delivery guy said was holding my flowers, is for rent. There is no one living in that house. When I called the shop to inquire about the flowers, the woman was sympathetic, telling me that the delivery boy is young and didn't follow the company procedures. Great to know, however, I still don't have my flowers. Think twice about using this florist! They need to call before delivering flowers, particularly in July! read more

The Virginia Florist has two locations. One is at this location on Belle View, the other is at the Hollin Hall shopping center. I am new to Virginia and find customer service greatly lacking in general. There is a pleasant lady working at this location who was helpful to me. I was wearing a sweater and sweat pants. My husband and I do a lot of entertaining and have fresh flowers in our home every day. I prefer to use small local shops and pay cash. The lady at this shop suggested I try the Hollin Hills store as well. So after purchasing a small box of sea salt for almost $40 from her I went over to the other store. Upon my arrival I greeted a gentleman working there and let him know I had been advised to visit him from the other store. He chortled at me and walked right past me into the back storage area. I then left and will never return. Any business that employees people such as this do not deserve my business. I suggest the owner and employees look up the history of how Stanford University got its start and reconsider their judgements and how they treat others. read more
