I understand there is limited staff, and I realize they have to turn their attention to other customers and tasks, but I would have liked to watch our dog more through the back windows before committing to leaving her there for the day. I'm guessing there were between 70 and 100 dogs in the play area, and most seemed well-adjusted and content. However, it seemed a bit much, and I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving our dog there. She loves playing but could not connect with any specific dog and was overwhelmed by the many dogs showing interest in her. We watched for at most 10 minutes, and the whole time, she was looking to hide, running from the other dogs with her tail between her legs. The staff was present, monitoring behavior and cleaning up, so the issue for me is the number of dogs, not the staff. I asked if there was a maximum number of dogs they allowed, and without a yes or no, I was told the number of kennels they had, which was over 250. The kennels can hold more than one dog at a time, so it's feasible that 300 dogs could be there if all the kennels were full. The kennels are in a climate-controlled warehouse-type area with individual chain-link "suites" and the regular areas. The difference is a little more square footage, and a webcam comes with the suite. I'd summarize this place as the big box store of doggy daycares where you'll get everything you need, but not necessarily the best experience for the pet. This review is based on my personal experience. I am not seeking a refund, to be made whole again, or for changes to be made. It is simply informative.

With Winston, our experience has been staff making the mistake of assuming he is either a Siberian husky, therefore the mishandling or fear from his size begins. Planet Pet Spa, had him scheduled first thing in the morning, so he would experience minimal activity to ensure he could ease into his FIRST experience. My main focus was to have Sir Winston, deshedded, shampooed and dried. Not much, but with a 120 lb who can be reactive, I had anticipated this to be challenging. My biggest concern was the staff being able to handle my him when he didn't want to move (as he generally will sit down in protest if he doesn't want to go). Our groomer, Nazarene, at drop off was not even fazed by Winston's size. Which only reassured me that I had placed Winston in good hands. Upon picking Winston up, he was in good spirits and seemed to have had a good experience. I struggled with looking for a big dog groomer, and I'm so thankful that we found Planet Pet Spa and Nazarene. I highly recommend Planet Pet Spa and Nazarene, if you have a giant breed. I have been using this dog boarding and grooming retreat intermittently for the past three years…read more Recently, I boarded two of my dogs for three days, which included playtime and grooming for my standard poodle, as well as a bath for my teacup yorkie. The online booking process was quite easy. Unfortunately, my last visit was disappointing due to overbooked grooming services and poor check-in communication. I received multiple calls with various frustrating excuses, including one that said they couldn't find the paperwork detailing the grooming style I wanted for my poodle and another that cited staffing shortages. These were just a couple of the reasons provided. I received these calls while I was at work, which was exactly why I had boarded my dogs--to avoid interruptions unless absolutely necessary. Since I remained in San Antonio, I expected better communication and reliable follow-through, especially given the high costs involved. I wish I had been informed from the start about the issues so they could have been addressed while I was not in the middle of giving presentations. After all my troubles, I was offered a 10% discount on the grooming, but they ultimately did a subpar job. I am very disappointed with the staff I spoke to, including the manager. I didn't want to express my frustration immediately, so I waited three weeks before posting this review.
