I've lived in Dutchess County for 30 years (though have lived in NYC and a few other places) and in general, am not a huge fan of Hudson Valley pizza. I think New Haven pizza is the best hands down. That said, I've been eating Wagon Wheel Pizza semi-regularly since 2021 as it is served at a local community group and it is always excellent. Almost, guilty to admit it, but last time I was hungry and ate 4 slices. In any case, I actually think this is legit the best pizza in Dutchess County. Not that there is much competition. But this is a solid pizza pie. Sorta surprised that I hadn't discovered it sooner. Folks throw out lots of names in Dutches County for 'great' pizza and I've always found them lackluster. Wagon Wheel is the exception. Go here! read more

Read reviews on Yelp and gave this pizza place a try. So glad we did. Excellent and tasty. Arrived at our table piping hot. We ordered the round with everything except meatballs and anchovies. It is like a trip back in time. Wooden tables and pews seats with red hobnail lights on the wall. When we return to the area we will definitely be back. FYI. Cash only. This is my 2nd time in here and I absolutely love the pizza. It's very delicious and it's always very tasty. The owner is really nice. From the outside it looks as if it's closed . I would suggest brightening up the windows. If you plan to get pizza here you'll need to pay with cash unless he has a ATM in the restaurant. Other then that very delicious pizza. read more

Wagon Wheel is indeed the best pizza in the area. Hands-down! Old-school New York pizza. No fancy toppings. Doesn't deliver. Only takes cash. Peter the owner is a delightful New York Italian. The menu online is outdated. It's more like $16-$18 per pizza now but still cheap compared to everywhere else. We get the garlic pizza (extra crispy) a few times a month. The best!!! read more

This is one of those situations where you've lived somewhere for two years never having tried that one restaurant. We ate pizza at different locations since we moved to the area in 2018... We never felt satisfied enough to return for more. That is until we finally had a pie at Wagon Wheel. I read a review about how good the crust is, and I couldn't agree more: It's crispy and light. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the perk of ordering drinks at the vinyl room. It made for an inexpensive and enjoyable night out to eat. While there is hardly a dearth of pizza places in the area, one would be hard-pressed to find a place that offers a better value than Wagon Wheel. This is a no-frills kind of place--a modest restaurant interior, no delivery, not a "gourmet-style" pizza with fancy schmancy toppings in sight--that offers good, traditional pies at very reasonable prices. (i.e. When was the last time you paid $9.49 for a large cheese pie?) The whole operation is run by one guy: the owner. I have been here three times and each time, while I was waiting for my pizza, there were regular customers dining in and taking out (always a good sign!). Wagon Wheel pizza is hands down my favorite pizza. I've eaten pizza from an insane amount of different places and I always end up saying "not as good as Wagon Wheel". Is this place fancy, no. I've lived in wappingers now for about 6 years I'm a transplant from NJ we have tried many many places in the area and to be honest this is the best around for your basic pizza no frills if you want pizza that has pineapple ....buffalo chicken etc------ this isnt the place for you but this guy can make a killer pie and killer sicilian dont go in here expecting gourmet pies but this place has the best basic pizza around .....I read a review on here and it was negative about the owner .....of anyone knows Pete even if it's just when your picking up pizzas hes a genuine straight shooter!!!!! I don't usually leave bad reviews but this place deserves it. Walk in at 930pm on a Saturday night. The place is EMPTY. We walk in and the guy goes on to tell us that his day is SOOO long because it started at 10am (boohoo?). Anyways he goes on to tell us that he doesn't care about anything right now which isn't very comforting for us to eat. He grabs pizza out of a cover that's just been sitting out. And then goes on to complain to us and question us why we aren't working right now. At that point we just walk out. I hope this guy isn't the owner but if he is this place should be shut down. The guy was a JERK and I would refuse to give him my money after he insulted us. read more

My family and I have been ordering this excellent pizza for years, and I can say that this locally owned pizza place serves unequivocally the best pizza I have ever had the delight of tasting. It is locally owned, the walls are covered in wooden plaques with funny jokes, and there used to be a vinyl store with old arcade machines next door which we played on after we ate, but sadly they moved to a different town and were replaced with a bar. For the pizza places in the area, this offers the best bang for your buck and the best pizza you can find (avoid Eddie's!!!). I also like the oldtime feel when you walk in as well as the owner.... definitely a great place and I hope to come back to get a whole pie next time! Oddly enough as close as Wappingers is to NYC we don't have excellent pizza I don't know why even though we have a lot of pizza to choose from. I finally asked my 11 year old neighbor who's pizza do you like best and she immediately said "Wagon Wheel" so I tried it and she was right so Wagon Wheel has been my go to in the area for 5 years now. It's made to order, a large pepperoni is cheap ($12.40) the toppings are generous and delicious and here is the clincher....this guy is nice! He always treats everyone like an old friend. He doesn't know me at all but he always acts like he does. Friendly, genuine guy that serves a great pizza in a time warp pizza parlor. They should film a movie here! read more

The pizza is good. Made fresh to order by the owner as soon as we walked in. I've had better pizza before, but this is good. What was so enjoyable about my visit was that the owner was a great guy. We had a great conversation with him but he wasn't intrusive. His father opened up the place in 1969 and he's worked here the whole time. $6.50 for a pitcher of cold beer? If I lived around here I get a pie, have a few too many and watch the hockey game with the owner. He has "real" chicken parm on the menu. "Real" chicken parm, the owner explained, our the chicken breasts he turns into cutlets himself, not the fake frozen patties so many pizza joints pass off as chicken parm for their heros. Just tried Wagon Wheel for the first time. I've lived in the area for some time but never got around to going there. I can honestly say that it is one of the very best pizzas I have ever tried! The unbelievable crust was crispy and crunchy, the sauce was undeniably homemade and delicious and it had the perfect amount of cheese and doneness. These guys know how to make a pizza! I won't be going anywhere else for pizza anytime soon! I'm just angry at myself for not having gone there before! I've been depriving my taste buds! My advice to pizza lovers, don't walk, run there. Yesterday, our small town of wappingers lost a historic part of our town. I did not have their food, but I am giving them 5 stars for their heart and generosity. My husband was on of the ones fighting the fire yesterday, Wagon wheel was bringing out pizzas to those who were trying to get the scene under control and safe. I literally pass this place a few times a week and I have never stopped, on my way to the Galleria me and my wife decided to pop in and have a slice. Now pizza being one of our favorite quick eats we have literally been to every pizza place and every pizza place has been the same. Not Wagon Wheel, this place has the absolute best pizza I've had. The decor wasn't fancy, very simple with some definite history. Wood walls real wood rough cut tables no tacky pictures no flash just down right comfort. The owner was awesome. Great convo while we waited for our slices. My wife had a meatball slice and it was real meatballs not just some ground beef or those fake little frozen meatballs. They were homemade and sliced fresh. Now she I saw the sign that there we're no credit cards accepted I thought damn a little inconvienent.....not at all. The prices are so low who needs plastic, 2 slices with 2 toppings each and a pepsi came out to 6$. Anyway in short this is my new go to pizza joint, definitely two thumbs up read more
