I think the atmosphere in this cafe is adorable! I love finding neighborhood gems like the weathervane cafe! The only drawback is the space can be a little uncomfortable if you're planning to stay for awhile. I sat awkwardly upstairs at a desk that didn't quite have room for my coffee, sandwich, and computer. There also aren't a lot of plugs available. Still, the food was great - my sandwich was delicious and I loved the seasoned cucumber as a side! So creative and fresh - very nice! The service was also spot on! I'll be back! read more

This place has a great yet small selection of food and drinks. The Sriracha Beef with the Lavender Lemonade Tea was amazing. Though it was busy the service was still good. This place isn't great for large groups as the place is small and there isn't much seating for more than 2. I would still recommend this place if you want to just chill, do homework, work or just get some good food or drinks. read more

I really enjoyed my time at The Weathervane Cafe. It is a very cozy coffee shop with high quality sandwiches and burritos. The food is all hand made with fresh ingredients, and the coffee is really good as well. Along with that, the atmosphere fits in very well with the neighborhood, very laid back at the same time very well cared for, obviously a lot of effort has been put into presentation and it pays off. Whenever I need a quick bite or a coffee, I would always pick this cafe over a Starbucks every time. read more

It's small and unassuming, but a great spot for coffee/tea, a meal, or to do work. The menu has nice variety (accommodates multiple diets, if you're into that), and everything is really well executed. Set in a small unassuming house, Weathervane is a welcoming, rustic space filled with the aroma of fresh pastries. Old country records set the soundtrack in the otherwise quiet main room. I go here quite often because it is by work, but I will also drive there with friends when I'm off. They have absolutely amazing, fresh fare prepared while you wait. The choices are delectable and the breakfast burrito is bomb! Their bhakti chai and ginger beer is a fav beverage. Weathervane is a major reason I support local. read more

"This is going to be disgusting" I thought, every lavender flavored thing I have ever tried has invariably tasted soapy and bitter. It looked like a normal iced latte, albeit in a Mason jar instead of a paper or ceramic cup. Despite my trepidation I managed to take a sip anyways; it was almost too smooth, only barely bitter, and instead of soapiness, it captured the herby and fruity smell of lavender and bound it with the boldness of coffee, like small flowers blooming in a bed of coffee beans. When I walked by the Weathervane Café, I almost walked past the Weathervane Café. If not for a small chalkboard sign, you'd never know it wasn't an old-timey residential house, complete with small yard and patio. It felt like trespassing walking inside. The floor is buffed concrete and the walls are either brick or wood paneled where not covered by oil paintings, music (perhaps 50s? I'm no expert) plays gently, one wall is shelved with homemade jams, and in addition to chairs and tables there are couches and armchairs. Definitely a hipster spot I told myself, not my scene at all. I don't like overly loud music, but this isn't loud enough. The man behind the counter is wearing a plaid shirt, the woman looks like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. At this point I'm sure they drink the soapy-lavender latte ironically. The servers are friendly enough, but definitely more human than average. The man behind the counter drummed his fingers impatiently while I looked over the menu, and when I started asking questions like the indecisive eater I am, he said "Don't worry it's all good." Some people might like their servers more supplicant, but if this is acceptable from friends and acquaintances why not from your server? It definitely makes me feel more at home when my server doesn't act like they're afraid of me. But despite the setting, the coffee isn't ironically good, it's just plain good. At $3.40 a cup ($0.50 for added flavor) the price isn't too bad either. This is enough for me. Give me a torture chamber with beds-of-nails to sit on and a dungeon master for a barista, and I'll be happy as long as the coffee is good. But if you don't like hipster décor and human servers, this probably isn't your dig. However, sitting on a couch with the sun gently streaming through the window at 1pm in the afternoon, I find myself quite enjoying this spot. read more

I knew nothing about the Weathervane Cafe, had only noticed it when driving by. I loving having no expectations and then being pleasantly surprised! Actually, pleasantly surprised is an understatement- I'm in LOVE with this place! So many fun details- well decorated, local Dram bitters for sale, necklaces for sale (just to name a few). Anyway, we ordered our sandwiches and while we were waiting, a donut appeared on our table. I damn near died. The donut was amazing and involved bacon. Just when I thought my endorphin level couldn't rise any higher, I received my sandwich. Just amazing. Large portion stuffed with quality ingredients. Also, the person who took our order and made our sandwiches was probably the nicest human in the world. He had a gigantic grin from ear to ear the entire time. It was just a great experience. I 100% plan on frequenting the Weathervane often. I wish all dining experiences could be similar to what I encountered today. Thank you! read more

Pure, simple, yummy healthy food. The women that owns this place puts simple attention detail to her recipes. I love the home grown feel and commitment to quality. They make their own lavender syrup for tea; how cool is that? They offer options from beet box but, I recommend ordering anything made by the owner. Went here for lunch and ordered the Italian turkey sandwich with the "french press" coffee. The sandwich was pretty good and they allowed for substitutions if you don't like a particular condiment. I'm not a fan of cucumbers or pretzels but having to choose one I took the pretzels, they were pretty much the same thing you can buy from Walmart but it really made no difference to me. The house coffee was okay, nothing really to praise, but understand I didn't have any of the specialty coffees. The only reason I gave a 4 instead of a 5 is because the website advertises a free refill and thinking that you could get multiple like many other coffee spots but instead you just get one. There is additional seats and a retro shop upstairs apparently but I didn't check it out. The bottom floor isn't that large so if your a group probably not the best place to go, but I can't comment on the upstairs obviously. The store itself is pretty nice and clean and they sell random things in the cupboards, and there is also an outside patio area for you to sit that was pretty nice but it was a bit cold to be sitting outside without a jacket. The service was top notch and really nice, they explained anything if needed and gave recommendations. DO NOT park behind the shop or you will get towed, its only parking on the street in front, but no worries there is sufficient space that you shouldn't have a problem. read more

Do not be put off by the perhaps less-than-inviting exterior. This is a clean, quiet cafe that values highly the quality that it serves: excellent coffee and tea, and sandwiches made to order from fresh ingredients. Prices are very reasonable ($10 for a sandwich and a generous helping of soup? Yes, please). I am not a vegetarian and give hippie restaurants a wide berth, but I am a sucker for fresh veggies so I went with a vegetarian meal despite some very appealing meat options. The Tomato Coconut Curry Stew was delicious, with just the right amount of kick. The Veggie Sandwich had house-pickled red onions and homemade hummus, as well as various fresh veggies. The employees were awesome: helpful, expedient, and genuine. Great music for lovers of classic rock, as we all ought to be. The interior is eclectic but clean. Stopped in to get a little work done during the afternoon. This review is only for the drink and the ambiance, as I didn't eat anything. The barista was pleasant, and the cambric I ordered was good. As for the ambiance, everything was vintage and cute, and the place is very twee. It felt a little cramped in the downstairs area to me, and the music was a bit too loud to concentrate. Up a very steep set of stairs and there is a nice open, airy room with tables where you could get some work done. It was quiet up there as well- you could hear the music from downstairs but they don't have speakers playing music in the upstairs area. The wifi signal was on the slow side, and there were not many outlets, but I was still able to use my computer. read more

I love, love, love this place. A charming hipsterish coffee shop near my home, with excellent coffee drinks, food, and atmosphere. I highly recommend the bhakti chai with ginger ale (so refreshing - it's cured more than one of my hangovers) and the hot ham and chevre sandwich. Whether you're sitting on the patio with your dog (dog parking included!), hanging out inside checking out the various and sundry items on offer either in the main room or the vintage shop upstairs, or grabbing a bite to go, it's a great place and I will miss it dearly if I ever move out of the neighbourhood read more
