I needed some nice south Asian clothes for some special events coming up. South Asian clothes is hard to find in the US, especially in a place like DC. So online options were at the top of my list, and a lot of people online recommended Anita Dongre. I ordered three pieces: a plain white kurta, an olive green vest, and a green coat (long sleeves). These items were a bit pricey, but worth it in my opinion. The packaging that everything came in was very professional and it was obvious that they took a lot of care in packing the clothes. As soon as I saw the clothes in person and put it on, I instantly fell in love. The clothes made me feel like royalty. The other items I bought from other locations just felt so cheap/low quality at worst or mediocre at best. But the Anita Dongre pieces made me feel great. I've had Anita Dongre on my "list of designers to look into when I get married" way back in 2014. Seven years later, I still appreciate the simplicity in her designs. That is when I knew I wanted to wear Anita Dongre on my wedding day. I researched resellers in the US and realized the NY store was my only option. I met Sonal after getting a hold of the store. I shared my concerns as I needed a custom piece. I liked a specific piece but wanted it in a different color. Sonal worked with me throughout the entire process. Due to COVID, I couldn't get my complete fitting done in New York. Sonal shipped me my lengha which was packaged in it's beautiful green box. My wedding was delayed for one year and I was able to shed some more weight. This resulted in my blouse being very loose. I had two options: to have someone alter my blouse locally or go to NY where Sonal would work on it. I realized it was a a great excuse for a trip and I met with Sonal who took care of me again. The shop is located in the heart of SoHo. It screams Anita Dongre in every angle; it's essentially an art piece. All in all, I enjoyed my entire experience. Came here last month. HORRIBLE SERVICE. No one helped my fiancé with trying on the outfits. No attention to the customer. After having to wait and book an appt one month in advance you would think they would actually cater to you and your needs. When we asked if they do custom dresses the lady named Sonam said "yes but they're expensive". Excuse me? Do you know what our budget is? So rude . She was rude throughout the process. We came in from Pennsylvania just to shop in the city and we were treated so poorly. As a member of one of the largest south Asian DJ groups in the northeast I will not hesitate to share my poor experience with my brides and grooms in the future. Indian weddings call for multi day celebrations involving numerous, grand outfits. My fiance, who fancies herself a fashionista, made the relatively new Anita Dongre boutique in SoHo our first stop on a day long wedding shopping excursion. The shop spans three floors with bridal/formal wear at the top, casual garments on the first floor, and menswear at the bottom. Of course, the clothes here are beautiful (and pricey!) but what earns this shop five stars is the setvice. We made an appointment ahead of time and were promptly greeted on arrival by Sonal, the shop's bridal expert. She provided consistently attentive and excellent service throughout our 1.5 hour visit. Indian outfits can be difficult to wear, and Sonal heavily assisted my fiance with trying on all the outfits she wished. She even brought out matching jewelry so we could better envision a complete look for the dresses we chose. We had other bridal appointments that day and none of the other stores came close to the service provided at the Anita Dongre boutique. Do NOT shop at this location. I went into look for clothes today and asked for the dressing room to try something. The employee (either Sonia or Sonal, didn't see her name tags closely) then said what is your size. I told her and she then proceeded to tell me that the sizes in store were from the UK And to subtract 4 to get my size and the only sizes they had were what was hanging. I had the pleasure of meeting Anita Dongre and Sonal at the Trunk Show In Long Beach. At that time, I had no idea how important that interaction would be in defining the aesthetic and design of our outfits for two of my wedding events. Sonal was a crucial part in our wedding and always went above and beyond. She was instrumental in the selection of our outfits and she provided tons of care and attention to the small details. I love Anita Dongre's clothing! They have more stock online, but you can go to the store and see what size you are and what styles look good on you. Some of the dresses have built-in bras, which I was very happy to discover, since I'm over 70. I found a very flattering dress to wear to my daughter's wedding, even though I'm a US size 10--not a size 2! Also, if you buy a dress from the store, they offer alteration. read more

We live in NC and purchased both my wedding ceremony and reception lehengas, in addition to my fiancé's sherwani at Anita Dongre NYC store. Sonal was very helpful and patient while I was trialing several lehengas in August 2020. They had a great collection even during COVID times. The bridal outfits start around 5K+. It's very apparent that the detail and work of the outfits are very well done with a higher quality than you'll find at other places in the NJ/NYC. Sonal was also extremely particular and detail oriented about measuring us which paid off because the outfits fit almost perfectly. The outfits were made in India and reliably shipped to us by January. I returned to NYC for a dress fitting in May and will only need minor adjustments to my reception lehenga. In summary, Anita Dongre offers high end quality Indian wedding attire and I was fortunate they had a US location. I bought my wedding lehenga from this store and while the dress itself is beautiful and turned out to be everything I wanted, I'm leaving 2 stars because of the sales associate. It's interesting to me that there are so many glowing reviews for Sonal, considering how she was unprofessional and rude until our very last meeting when she asked me to leave her a review if I was satisfied. Well Sonal-- here's that review I promised you Sonal made multiple rude comments towards my family members. When my aunt asked her about a lehenga blouse price, Sonal gave us the rack price and then said that it would cost much more for my aunt because of all the extra material it would take to make it in her size. She also felt the need to indicate that my sister would have a hard time finding a dress in the store because of their "limited sizes meant for slimmer women." While that may be true, there are appropriate and inappropriate ways of verbalizing that and Sonal always chose the most inappropriate way. She also double booked during my very first appointment with her, accused us of not having an appointment on that day, and then essentially turned her full attention to the other customer mid way through my appointment. The very extreme reviews on this site (either loving her or hating her) indicate to me that she's extremely two-faced and I can make a few guesses as to who she chooses to treat well and who she couldnt care less about. read more

We arrived in NYC from Chicago to shop for some wedding outfits and we ended up finding the perfect Welcome Event and Sangeet outfits thanks to Ms. Sonal. She helped us get fitted and also helped us find matching jewelry. Come 2020, we ended up pushing our wedding to 2022 due to COVID. I echo all the prior reviews; Sonal is excellent and the experience shopping here is fantastic. We've shopped here for men, women, daily wear, wedding wear, jewelry and more: everything we've purchased we've been extremely pleased with. My wife wore at least three outfits from here, and a full set of jewelry, as well, for our wedding and loved the style and quality of the pieces, as well as the service at the store. The clothes here are not cheap, but I suspect you already knew that if you were looking at the store. That said, the non-bridal wear on the entry level, is more modestly priced and has excellent casual wear. Regardless, for Indian bridal wear, this can't be beat. Been to India on a very short trip where I do not have much time to do shopping. I wanted to buy the most popular Suvi Dress In white and blue combo. I have tried calling the store in Hyderabad and Keerthi from the store answered the call and she was very helpful. In few minutes she got the dress arranged although it was not available in the store. She went above and beyond to get me the dress.she also made sure it reached to my friend in Hyderabad. I got few other stuff also picked from their collection. This wouldn't have been possible if Keerthi was not there. She took initiation and offered me a video call and showed me all the styles available in the store and helped me to pick the dresses and sets. Not only call she indeed made sure she sent me pics as well to make sureI am buying the right ones which suits me. Thanks to Keerthi who made my experience a very happy one. That said, I was surprised to not have much help despite having an appointment, the staff did not seem to have accurate information about the clothes, and there is a weird one photo policy which makes no sense given you are trying on clothes that are all shown online. Had an amazing experience shopping at Anita Dongre! Sonal was very helpful, and gave us plenty of options when deciding on outfits for our wedding. Sonal was intrumental in making my husband and I look amazing for our wedding day last year. We started the process not really expecting much, as we had horrible luck shopping in NJ and Chicago, and I really wanted to avoid the India trip. She was AMAZING to work with, and we went through a couple seamless (no pun intended) visits and rounds of alterations. Not to mention that the HoAD designs and clothing are of exceptional quality. So not only did we have timeless pieces to choose from, we had fantastic service. We did everything remotely from Boston, but all of our worries were eased when everything Sonal promised was delivered EARLY actually.
