Been here plenty of times and enjoy the specials. I recently went with a friend and used a coupon which read "buy one entree, get one free". Sooooo seeing how everything is a la carte, i honestly didn't think our server would pick the LEAST expensive item on our tab and call it an "entree". Absolutely adore this place! Definitely no-frills, casual dining spot and a small arcade for those with kids (or kids at heart!). Food was good; we ordered the Big Daddy and the Chili Size, which both tasted good. The chili was flavorful and not too salty like it tends to be at other places. There was also large party when we went, however the waitresses were still attentive to my party of two and ensured our drinks never went dry. My only criticism of the place was the condiments tray, particularly the little plastic container trays they used; it was a little gross to think about having to reach into some cheap plastic container just for some onions or some banana peppers. My suggestion would be to maybe serve them with tongs for each container or even serve small dishes with the toppings. But make no mistake, I love the concept of being able to add whatever the hell I wanted to my burger especially for a picky eater like me! Will certainly come again. read more

I always passed this place and always wondered about it, then when I had a coupon I pretty much HAD to go. It was just days before going Vegetarian so a burger is a must during the final countdown. The service was great, food was pretty good, and we enjoyed the beer. I am not sure if I will be here again since it's an...ahem...burger joint and I am vegetable confined but it's a good place for a nice family lunch. read more

Had a good experience. The hamburgers taste homemade and the ambiance is great for the kids.

Went there on a Tuesday night and it was a bit busy and had kids running all around the place. We sat ourselves and had a waitress come by within a couple of minutes asking for our drink orders. The place was lively and had a pleasant atmosphere. They had a few TV's playing the baseball playoffs but no sound. We had their special $4.99 steerburger and fries for all four of us and they were very good. They come plain but with condiments on a tray....if you want cheese, lettuce and tomatos with your special, you have to ask. The 1/2 pound burger and a bunch of fries we each got in our baskets was plenty of food. The prices are excellent and the place was clean. We liked every bit of our experience with the exception of all the kids running around making noises, we just tuned them out and enjoyed our evening. The big question that comes up at our table is "would I come back and/or would I order it again" and the answer to both is YES, yes I would. If you haven't tried it, it's worth it and all four of us will return and see how round two goes. read more

I have always enjoyed my time at this burger place. Ive been here dozens of times in the last 3 years and I always leave happy =) I love getting chili cheese fries and a good burger. Ill admit, I do order a hot dog every once in awhile as well ( yes, I get teased for ordering anything but a famous steer burger every time). If youre really hungry add cheese and bacon to the steer burger. Delicious! I also usually get a pitcher of Amber Bock to go with my meal. Its a great meal at a great price!! read more

I eat here usually once a month when the two for one coupon comes out. The service is great - all the waitresses are friendly and Ashley is our favorite. She even gives us cups to take our sodas to go when we leave! The food is good but what gets me craving this place is the pickles and secret sauce. When it's slow and the pool table is open I highly recommend playing a game. read more

Had a wonderful takeout meal. The server we as very nice and everything was there. I got home and realized that I should never order when I am hungry. Great family spot! Prices are extremely affordable. The wings were fried and seasoned nicely. They use real nacho cheese sauce like the big cans from Costco! Service was sloooow but there was a huge party seated before us. We are going to give it another try. Our server was friendly. read more

Had not been back to this restaurant in quite some time, but went the other nite--and was glad I did--Our server was extremely friendly and pleasant (wish I had gotten her name--employees like her are a real asset to a business), our orders were filled very quickly, service was timely and with a coupon from the local Pennysaver and arrving on a Friday evening to partake of half price appetizers, our bill was less than what we normally pay for breakfast at our favorite restaurant. All in all, a very pleasant dining experience--will no doubt be returning there on a more regular basis now. read more

Review updated June 11, 2016 Please read the very end for update: We scheduled a fundraiser at the La Mesa Weevil Burger 2 months in advance for a local teen with cancer. The night before the event I received a call from a waitress asking us to change the date. I explained we could not do this since the event had been on the news, radio, and social media for 2 months. The owner called stating that he made a mistake, apologized, and we agreed that our fundraiser would go on as scheduled. The 2nd event would come in at 8pm to set up and our fundraiser guests would leave at 9pm. When I arrived the next day early I spoke with the owner who stated he would be giving a donation to the fundraiser, I asked if we could hand out flyers on site in case anyone forgot them I was told by 2 waitresses that was fine. At 7 pm a news crew arrived and at 7:30 a party of about 15 arrived after a baseball game. They arrived with their own flyer. The waitress told them they had to leave even though our event didn't end until 9. The owner then stated that, "they were his customers and we were taking his customers from him." Yes these people may have come to this restaurant on a regular basis but this was a community event for a teen in the community. The family that they refused to allow to be a part of the fundraiser has a daughter who goes to school with the sister of the boy with cancer. They have also stated they will no longer come back to Weevil Burger and neither will anyone in their party. At that time the owner then stated that the only reason he was "donating" the $200 was because he was kicking us out at 7:30 yet the night before he had agreed to keep the fundraiser as we had scheduled is 2 months prior from 6-9. He did not say anything about shutting us down early when I arrived at 5:30. He then complained about us giving out the flyers and taking away "his" customers when we actually handed out 3 flyers to existing customers when we arrived with their permission and 1 flyer to a customer who only had an electronic version on hand. The waitresses stated that they had never seen a fundraiser do so well at their facility. I spoke with the couple who had the 2nd event that was booked, they booked it 1 month ago. When you double book your place it is customary to cancel the second event. However we were not asking that they cancel any event. We felt that we could work with them even though they made a mistake. We were willing to have the second event to come in and begin setting up during our event and if by chance there were no customers left we would have left early. Instead several customers including myself had their tables cleared and food and drink thrown away. I specifically asked that they not throw my stuff away yet they did anyway. We are hoping that the owner fulfills his end of the bargain by sending the family not only the 20% of their proceeds but also the $200 that he stated he was going to give for kicking us out. This is not a donation this is a payment for being kicked out. The restaurant was completely full for the 90 minutes we were allowed to be in there with several tables turning over. The owner stated that none of the people in the restaurant were his customers and he didn't care if any of them returned even though I and several others had been there before. So I will definitely not be back and due to the way that they have treated us and many in our community I am asking that you all stand behind us. As Weevil Burger has lost my respect and my business. The owner lied on the phone, lied in person, was threatening, and essentially stole from a child with cancer. He is the lowest of the low. On June 9, a week after the fundraiser the family still had not received their money. The owner originally stated he would mail a check the day after the event, so they should have had it by the 4th of June. I spoke with the owner on the 9th, he stated he had just mailed a check for $400, $200 was his "donation" and we earned $200. This made absolutely no sense since Panchos the restaurant that took over the fundraiser with just a table of 15 plus a table of 2 gave us $50. WeEvil was absolutely PACKED for the 90 minutes they allowed us to have the fundraiser plus most of those table turned over at least once sever two times. Their own waitress stated they had never had so many people come for one fundraiser. When I asked the owner if he had the receipts to prove we only earned $200 he became very upset and said no he had no proof. With no receipts, with the amount of people who were there, and with the amount the was donated using the same 20% by Panchos, Weevil Burger should have donated what we raised between $400-$500 plus the $200 that the owner added for kicking us out before our fundraiser was over. Sadly this owner has stolen from a teen with cancer. He lined his pockets with the families money and threw away the receipts. Boycott WeEvil Burger in La Mesa. read more

I love the staff most of the time. They have a pool table and a jukebox. Their food is delicious and the portions are great.

My husband and I decided to try Weevil Burger last week. I had the guacamole burger and my husband had the mushroom burger. Both were delicious. My husband did say that he wishes the mushrooms had been cooked a little more, but the scarfed them down anyway. The next day, we went in for the $4.99 burger/fries special. It was every bit as good as any we have had in the past from Boll Weevil. This will become our new restaurant of choice when we're in the mood for a hamburger. read more

Ive never sat in to eat but on friday i called in a order. Four gyors and a couple appitizers, girl on the phone said 10 to 12 minutes. When i came to pick up order the place was packed and everyone seemed to be happy. my order was ready hot and fresh, on fridays gyros are only 99 cents! what great deal and food was pretty good too. Much improved since it changed to Weevil from Boll Weevil!! Went on a 2 for 1 coupon so price was right. Would be a little pricey otherwise considering the atmosphere etc.. Service was great, 15 minutes from the time we sat down until food was served. Huge portions (1 basket of friesor onion rings could easily do for 2). Place was clean, waitstaff friendly. However, the kids (well, 1 really) running around got on my nerves. It is not Chucky Cheese?! Overall will go back, but not without a coupon. $8-9 for a burger basket is more than it is worth. read more

Okay, it's by no means a fashion pad in terms of environment. What is great about this place is the food. Good quality hamburgers ( served in a BASKET), large portions and some pretty excellent appetizers. Fridays at the La Mesa Location they have Gyros for a buck and appetizers half-price. Who can beat that? A good lunch for $4 to $5, out the door, every Friday. Go any day and still get a solid meal. I must say however I do at times feel they're understaffed, especially when they shouldn't be like on a Friday night. But other than that this place is awesome! read more

Great service, good food, and kids eat free on Sundays. About 2/3 of the menu is under $10, so your dollar goes a long way. Aracade games keep the kids distracted until the food arrives, which only took about 10 minutes. We will definitely be coming back. read more

All of the chicken crap nay sayers that have spoken negatively about Weevil Burger can just stay home! This place is leaps and bounds better than it's previous situation. I have brought my family here once a week or so since it opened, and years before when it was Boll Weevil. The staff here are terrific! No need for menu's, they know what we want without asking. They treat my family like their own family and that keeps us coming back. The food is very tasty, always perfect, and they check on us over and over again. I highly recommend Weevil Burger and always will. They just don't have many places like this around anymore. Please go eat there and try for yourself! read more

Sat when in the place was very clean including the bathroom. Special of 99 cent dog and 1.99 draft beer was 5 star. The young waitress was very nice and came by several times to make sure we didn't need anything, nice touch. What keep them from getting 5 stars was that a 48 oz pitcher of beer was on special for 5.99 the waitress asked us if we wanted a 60oz pitcher we said sure..but do you know that the extra 12oz costed you $4. It's better on Sat to stay with 48oz pitcher. It would have been nice for the waitress to tell us the difference in pricing that would have earned them a 5 stars. Beyond disappointed in the management of this restaurant. We attended a fundraiser for a child suffering from cancer here tonight. It was prearranged and scheduled to be held from 6-9 pm with the expectation that 20% of the proceeds would go to the family. There was a wonderful turn-out BUT the manager started turning people away at the door for this fundraiser (people who had their flyers in hand ready to donate) by 6:30 because the restaurant had double-booked the fundraiser and a wedding reception! Seriously, you are turning paying customers away who are there to support a local family with a child with cancer?!!!! The Fletcher Hills community is a strong one and Weevil Burger will no longer be a destination for MANY in our neighborhood. read more

This is my favorite cheap eat hamburger joint whenever I'm at this area. Usually I order half pound steer burger and wife will order with cheese. Two burgers , two French fry, and two soda for less than $22.00. You can't get any better burgers for the price. read more
