Great atmospere for the family. Service was friendly and helpful. Surprisingly pricey for what I received. Chili was attempting to be "truck stoppy" but it was too greasy for even that (and that's saying alot!). My biggest gripe was the frozen patty I'd never get at a Boll Weevils (don't get the two confused! I love Boll Weevils). I can tell a "from frozen" cheap poor quality patty no matter how it's dressed. Hope they change and get this right. If they don't they'll have a hard time staying open. This place sends out a local flyer. Tried the chicken sandwich "frings" (onion rings and fries basket) their burger, and their chili. Even with the coupons it added up to about $25.00 in the end, which would have been OK for Boll Weevil fare, but cutting costs on your premier item is the best way to scare off someone looking for a good burger. Using pre-formed patties I could buy in the frozen foods section at Vons (but don't because they taste terrible) is no way to run a burger joint. read more

I feel some people are really picky based on reviews I've read about this location. I have been a huge fan of Boll Weevil's since before I can remember. Once Boll Weevil's went under and closed a bunch of their restaurants, things have drastically changed. I've been to both the Boll Weevil's in Lemon Grove as well as the Clairemont location and both were sadly very underwhelming with their food quality. Buns very soggy from the greasy burgers. Not the same quality as I remember growing up in San Diego. My brother recommended I try Weevil Burger. They are their own location and are no longer part of the Boll Weevil's restaurant group, but man was their food delicious! It took me back to how I remember a Boll Weevil's burger tasting. Bun was not soggy, patty cooked medium to perfection, juicy not greasy! Fries were crispy and nacho's were a steal of a deal for $.99 a basket! And the best part of not being part of the restaurant group is they can offer great deals. Saturday's get $.99 nachos, Sunday's kids eat free, plus many other deals I saw offered on their windows walking into the front door. I have only been to this location the one time, but I plan to come back with my family again and again as long as the food quality was the same as what I received when I visited. This place is close to home which is convenient for us. Kids eat free on Sundays is nice except it seems like every time we try to take advantage of it someone has reserved the entire restaurant. Therefore closing it at 730 to the public. There's a waitress here now that I have never seen before and she sucks. Ordered chocolate milk for my kids and she literally squirted Hershey syrup into a cup, added milk and didn't mix it at all. Saw a family come in to be seated and she rudely gave them the one finger, hold on, with a dirty look. They walked out. If you don't like working with people then don't be a waitress. She's the younger one wearing way to much eyeliner. Brenda on the other hand is amazing! She is by far the best waitress. We waited an hour for our food with no help from the new waitress. Turns out she never put in our order. Brenda noticed our being unhappy and came over. Took over our table immediately and within ten minutes we were eating and very well taken care of. Three stars for the poor business management and inept waitress. Five stars for Brenda. She is the ONLY reason we go back. The food is pretty good as well. read more

Haven't been here in years since I moved out of the area, definitely worth the drive. The fried zucchini appetizers were to die for, probably the best in the county. The menu is extensive and our waitress was great (Maddie). I will try to get back here this year. read more

The food was good and prices were competitive. Don't go to this place if you're in a rush on your lunch hour. The food took nearly 30 minutes in an empty place and the server never asked how the food was or said thank you when I paid the bill. Overall, a good place to eat. read more

My husband and I try to go once a week. Their burgers and other items are fresh, tasty and terrific! We ate at Boll Weevil since they opened. Ive always loved Weevil Burger (aka Boll Weevil). Despite its unassuming very untrendy out of date and hometown atmosphere (which I like in some place), this burger joint is excellent for large group, has awesome food at reasonable prices (about the same cost at any fast food place but the food is twice as good and much more fun). The wait staff there has always been friendly. By comparison to other burger joints it only looses a star because its really dark and old school in there, which I think many Yelpers may not like. But if you arent comparing this place to say...the Burger Lounge or other similar fancier burger places....it would be a 5 star place. This place takes you back to simplicity. Theres tons of activities here and would be a great place for an old school kids birthday party. Parking is easy, service is quick, the place isnt always busy, probably because its huge and the food is fun to order as well as eat. I hope this place never goes away. :) read more

I have eaten at Boll Weevel / Weevil Burger for many years. Always enjoyed going there...until tonight. Although the waitress was very nice and apologetic, the "OWNER" who I assumed was just a bad manager ruined it. I ordered a happy hour special of 2 gyros, 1 for me and 1 for the wife. After 1 bite we both agreed we did not like it at all. So, we asked the waitress if we could return it and order something else. She says as long as you have only take 1 bite it would be no problem. Lucky for us, so we thought...We each only had 1 bite before we decided we hated the food and didnt want it. Waitress takes the food away with our new order of a Cheeseburger. 15 minutes later watress returns and says the Mgr. will not refund us for the 2 Gyros and she is very sorry. Im like, What? So, long story short, the manager was actually the owner. He was very rude when I went to the counter to confront him on this issue, not wanting to budge on his "NO RETURN POLICY". OVER 30 minutes later I have to decline my interest in the ordered cheeseburger. Well what do you know, all of a sudden it comes up from the kitchen. By this time I just wanted to get out of this dump. I took the burger and told the owner I would never be back. He smiles and says "suit yourself". Cant believe this guy would act this way over a $1 Gyro. Sorry for this lengthy complaint, but I am so mad that this guy ruined what has been a great place for our family to go for so many years. omg!!! i come home after a nice party with my family from tijuana. then i hear my messages on my house phone and some stupid girl from Weevil Burger in La Mesa calls my house leaving me a nasty message and swearing on the phone saying we ordered food and if we don't pick it up they are calling the police. we called back letting them know that the called the wrong people and the told us off!!!! i am so mad i even tried talking to the manager John. i was so mad because they where rude and unprofessional i mean we have kids here that heard the message. idk what I'm gonna do just waiting to see if and when the cops show. so F*ching pissed!!!! worst of it is that its wasn't our fault. ive been here over 20 times. all i can say its greaaaat!!! i always get mushroom burger with fries. there always big and fresh!my kids also love coming here. the only mean waitress is heidi but all the others are nice. the food is the bomb! its the best ive ever had. trust me its worth a try you wont regret! the food will drive you crazy thats how good it is. so give it a try! read more
