Avoid at all costs!!! I booked a chiropractor appointment here because I was looking for a place that could get me in next day. I have been dealing with some lower pack pain, and I wanted to get an adjustment to possibly alleviate some of my pain before I start physical therapy. The place itself seemed dirty and was very cramped. They didn't come out for over 20 minutes after the appointment time, and did not address the lateness so I am guessing that is fairly normal there. I knew going in that I would not have a private room, but I expected a more open concept, large room and instead it was a bunch of very small, dirty rooms that other providers go in and out of to grab things while you are doing your appointment. They did some imaging and I got examined, and was then told that they do not do adjustments on the first appointment! That is something that should have been explicitly stated when I called. I have gone to a few other chiropractors, and they have all given me at least a brief adjustment after going over everything at the first appointment. I am in pain and you are going to make me wait for another appointment?!? He also said that they do physical therapy with the chiropractic adjustments, and was subtly discouraging me from starting PT with someone else. As far as I am aware, this person is not a licensed physical therapist. I came out of there with another chiropractic appointment for an actual adjustment, an ultrasound appointment, nerve test appointment, an acupuncture appointment (despite saying I have done acupuncture before, find it very unpleasant, and it was not helpful for me), and a neck brace order because he told me that my neck could use it (that might be true, but I am not trusting this place with care for this and it is not what I came in for). They are just looking for anything to charge my insurance for. I realized after the fact that they didn't even schedule me with the same chiropractor for the follow up adjustment. I've been a client of the Wellness Center for about 6 months now. I usually go to the Rockwood location but had some scheduling conflicts that led me here. What a lucky thing! Dr. Paul adjusted my neck like I haven't had in YEARS!!! It's been. Few days and I still have the full range of motion and am beyond thankful for Dr. Mark and his staff! I had a very terrible experience at the Belmont clinic. I highly recommend not wasting your time with these folks. The office is dirty, unorganized and not professional at all. Dr Ebensteiner was cold, non personable and almost robot like. The adjustment was fine but very much what you would get for a general treatment. I was also "prescribed" a ultrasound treatment which was unprofessional, laughable at best and found zero result. The doctor kept pushing services that weren't needed. I was promised an understanding of billing and what i would owe only to be hit with a large bill long after the treatment. I would avoid this clinic at all cost, don't waste your time or money. read more

Save your receipt. Do not use cash! In August I went in for a Botox treatment. It was only a small amount and very reasonable. The staff were wonderful. It was painless. I paid with cash and left. It is now January and I just received a bill for my August treatment. I called the billing office and they had no record of payment. I did not save the receipt. Why should I? It was not a medical treatment. I don't pay for a hair appointment, manicure or massage months later. I just found out my sister also just got a bill for a beauty treatment she had in August at the same place. She paid with credit card so I am sure she will be ok once she shows them the payment. Go to Oregon Medical and Laser. They are the same price and have a better billing system. read more

This place is a chop shop, practitioners didn't read and listen to the notes previous doctors made for me about requesting very low impact/gentle treatment. It was so busy I had to stand in the waiting room. The chiropractic treatment felt more harsh than the accident I was being treated for. They gave me a giant unnecessary neck brace and a card for their lawyer right out of the gate, giant red flags. The staff is pretty nice so I feel bad about that, but I have to speak up. When I called to tell them the chiropractic made my symptoms a lot worse, they offered for me to talk to their very experienced doctor, she got on the phone and literally couldn't have cared less about my feedback and experience, she just sounded totally inconvenienced. I've been seen for several years at the Wellness Center PDX, and it was always such a good experience. But today I called in to make an appointment for a chiropractic adjustment. I've been bed-ridden for two days after my back went out, and I'm anxious to get a 5-minute adjustment and get back on my feet, as I often have before. I was told that it's been too long since my last visit, so I have to go through intake again, and they don't have any availability for a phone consultation for that purpose until next week. They asked if I'd be ok with remaining bedridden for another week before beginning the re-intake process, after which I assume they could look at scheduling me for the quick visit for an adjustment that will return me to full activity. I'm very disappointed to have to find another clinic. :( I had grown used to prompt & helpful care from the Wellness Center, and I'm sad to learn that such care goes away if a patient waits too long between visits. read more

First Impression: Love this place! Dr. Gabriel is very knowledgeable and listens closely. My treatment plan has included adjustment by Dr. Stewart and massage by Jante -- both great! This office has a skilled but also warm and human staff. EDIT: Actually, hang on, turns out chiropractic is bunk and chiropractors are not medical doctors and even Wikipedia will tell you that chiropractic causes on average more harm than good, including some death. Go on and Google it! Real doctors are not fans and chiropractors have been active in the anti-vaccine movement. Society gave me the impression that this was a real medical science, but it is NOT. Nothing was healed and after over half a year I have more problems than I started with. When I finally consulted with a general practitioner about seeing a physical therapist, she expressed concern that they had adjusted my neck with my condition. Insurance companies should not be paying for this any more than crystal healing. Leaving 3 stars because I doubt this chiropractor is worse than the average chiropractor. read more

Post pandemic and pandemic is still very much in our community but every precaution is being followed carefully and professionally. I appreciate this and find it helps with post pandemic stress. Dr Paul Paez is an incredible provider for chiropractic care. I was nervous seeking chiropractic care for the first time for a long-time neck injury that is worsening with age & increased stress. I have received care at the Rockwood location and I have a few things I'm not to happy with. First, they do not keep a receptionist and already here customer services is not a priority--at least in my eyes. Having a front desk employee is like the face of the office and is there to answer questions and concerns that a customer may have. ALSO isn't it nice when a live person picks up the phone when you want to book an appointment??? I have called various times just to be asked to leave a message--super inconvenient. I'm so glad there are other offices that still extend this services! So they're cutting corners and customer service just to save money. ALSO, please make sure the practitioner takes your insurance--they won't ask you every time and you will end up with a fat bill months later. I'm not one to give negative reviews, but I feel like maybe it would save someone some time and energy. I feel like I've been getting dicked around by their staff for over a month all the while I'm still in a ton of physical pain. I've seen the chiropractor twice, had a (free because they had me come in and then couldn't actually see me when they could have called and saved me a trip altogether) massage, and have seen the acupuncturist once. None of which, at any time, has provided physical relief from my back and neck pain. I feel like I go into these appointments for like 10minutes and then they tell me I'm done and I'm like wait you didn't do anything though....and I'm still in pain.... Constantly getting mixed messages from each member of their staff, it seems like they're confused on how/what insurance covers so each person tells me something different--i have OHP and when i see the chiropractor he says to schedule massages with my chiro because it's included in insurance but when I go to the front desk they're like yeah he doesn't know what hes talking about, you don't get massage with your insurance. It's just all over really frustrating when you're in pain and it seems like these people CAN help me, they're just not. It's like they're trying to see how many times I can come in before actually doing anything physically to help me. After my last appointment, leaving in pain and being frustrated that I'm spending money for people to not help me, I've decided to find a new place. The acupuncturist had be lay down and touched all the places on my back that were in pain and acknowledged why I would be in so much pain and then was like OK WELL ILL SEE YA LATER. if y'all aren't going to provide any relief for at least a month I would have liked to have known to save myself some time and energy. The most physical relief from the back pain I've been experiencing has been through the (free) message they gave me to make up for an original error on their part, which later they figured out I could have seen the doctor anyway which is even more frustrating. The massage tech was good, I did feel a small amount of relief after that, but he was chewing gum and the last thing you wanna hear when trying to relax is someone smacking their gum non-stop, It drove me crazy. After several friends suggested Wellness Center to me (which for the longest time I though was a dispensary ), I scheduled a chiropractic appointment. From day one the care has been more comprehensive than I imagined--they've set me up with an exam, manual therapy, pain relief injections, and acupuncture (all covered by OHP) all within the first week. I thought I'd be waiting for months just for an adjustment, so this has been a welcome surprise. The staff has been friendly and attentive and unlike most other doctors I've seen, I've felt validated and heard. And they take OHP!!!! Also great to see such a large queer and trans clientele in the waiting room. Unfortunately, the building has about ten stairs to get to it, narrow hallways, and massage is also down a full set of stairs inside so this place isn't accessible to folks with certain mobility needs and devices. This was one of the worst experiences with health care. They did an unnecessary adjustment to my neck over a year ago that is still causing me daily pain. They gaslighted me on a PRP session that got infected and assumed that I would follow up with a third session having never addressed the problem with the second procedure. Jante was warm, welcoming and responded to my body in a very intuitive way. She is extremely skilled and I highly recommend booking with her! Parking at this place is a nightmare, no designated parking for patients, it's all on street parking, so when you are injured or in serious pain, enjoy your walk in the rain, cause you'll sometimes have to park about 2-3 blocks away. They also have two long flights of stairs leading up to the front door with no ramp or easy access for patients on crutches or with disabilities. The poor receptionist (Nicole) is very sweet & kind but every time I was there, she was being pulled several different directions, constantly interrupted and extremely overwhelmed but I'll get back to that later. The owner (Mark) was actually the one who did my exam, which was a strange experience all in itself. After sitting in the lobby FOREVER I was finally shuffled down a narrow hallway to a small room that had an old looking Xray machine attached to a flat screen TV? It looked like he couldn't afford the entire upgrade or was apparently in the middle of one? The exam room smelled like bad chemicals and was very outdated. He appeared out of a small coat closet that was also in the same room and apparently that was his office and it was covered with strange black foam on the walls? He seemed very tense and rushed and spoke really fast through my exam and then immediately wanted to start taking Xrays of me and then he left the room. Another person who introduced herself as (Lindsey) another chiropractor, came into the room to take my Xrays. She was very nice, calm and I was actually able to relax with her in the room. That was it for my first visit. YEP! There is a total of 4 visits that you will have to make I later learned and you don't even get adjusted until the 3rd visit - Seriously? The 2nd visit was worse than the first. I've seen chiropractors before, but I have NEVER spent so much time for a visit at their office. I was finally able to see my X-rays and of course he said there was a lot of things wrong with me, which most of what he was saying was completely UNTRUE. He then made me schedule for a 3rd appointment and that is when I FINALLY got my adjustment by him, which was by far the WORST adjustment that I have ever had. Because he was so tense and I was so uncomfortable with him touching me, he was only able to do so much and actually HURT ME. I was then instructed to set up a 4th appointment to see him. Okay, so this is the straw that broke the camel's back. Dr. Mark proceeded to try and sell me on a "Treatment Plan" for services that were way outside what my insurance would cover and what I could even afford. The quote was well over $2K and he was seriously trying to sell me on it. They were wanting me to give them my credit card info, so that they could start billing it for all the stuff that wasn't covered by insurance and just might I add, it was over $2K of stuff I NEVER WANTED OR EVEN ASKED FOR. He has multiple other therapist that perform other treatment there and it's obvious that he just passes you around to them, so they can ALL make money off of YOU! As I politely declined the "Treatment Plan" which I had to do several times over again, his whole demeanor towards me changed and so did my trust with him. As I was leaving the clinic, I stopped to take a picture with my phone of a recipe that I saw in the magazine I was previously reading in the lobby and I was in a blind spot to the front desk. The way I heard him talk to his staff was absolutely appalling, this Man is a TOTAL FAKE individual who cares about nothing else but MONEY & HIMSELF. Even though the staff were wonderful, friendly and very polite, it's just not enough to make up for how poorly this Man treated ME & his OWN STAFF. I DO NOT RECOMMEND that anyone go see Dr. Mark Gabriel at this clinic. I don't know how good the other doctors are because I never got treated by them, but he is BY FAR THE WORST! The best part of this all, is that he actually had the nerve to ask me to give him a good review on Google or Yelp. Unbelievable! This will be the second time I've had successful resolution of neck and back pain at The Wellness Center PDX. First back in 2017 and again just this week. I had an adjustment with Dr. Jasmine and don't let her petite build fool you, SHE IS STRONG! Her technique is really effect. I also had a massage with Ryan, who is indeed as amazing as everyone says! For the first time in over 2 months of pain, I finally slept like a baby! I enjoy the laid back atmosphere and all the beautiful plants in the office! I also enjoy the friendly and diverse staff. A bad car accident caused several severe degenerative bone issues. I wasn't interested in traditional bone eroding cortisone injections...they hadn't worked for other family members. The first adjustment I had was alright. He took his time and explained things to me. He verbally walked me through it. He explained some of the specific issues were present in my x-rays/MRI's. I was told I had evidence of bone degeneration in hips, lower spine and advanced arthritis in my knee. Afterwards, I could stand up and walk much better.... for awhile. But after the second (very abrupt) adjustment to the left and right of my neck I saw stars and felt a jolt of pain go up my spine. Previously I'd had rotator cuff surgery and it took a year and half of PT to get my left arm/shoulder back to full rotation of my shoulder. After the 4/9/18 adjustment I was in agony. I already couldn't sleep on my right side. Now, I was unable to sleep on the left side, the ONLY side I had been able to sleep on. It became necessary to ice my entire left shoulder and arm in order to get even a couple of hours of sleep. After the ice packs melted, I was in trouble. Also, I was no longer able to swim. Tingling and numbness in my hand, wrist, and shooting pain was nearly a constant, not to mention some weird constant chronic itching. I was assured that it would "go away in awhile." It took over a month and a half, another appointment with a different chiropractor. I went to the Wellness Center for help because I wanted my life back, instead, I now have additional problems with a re-injury to my shoulder. It set me back years. I can't believe that a medical professional would wittingly or un-wittingly do me such harm. I was also surprised that there was no ramp into their office and a rug that many people who had a hard enough time getting up the large stairs, sometimes tripped over. One day when I came, a young woman had her husband carry her wheelchair up the stairs for her while she struggled up the stairs. I also witnessed three different clients sobbing in the front lobby area, shaking their heads and speaking loudly over their cell phones about their negative experiences that day. I pay attention to that kind of thing...if I'm not feeling like I'm being taken well care of...I look to see how others are reacting. The front desk staff is brusque and has bad attitude to spare. Its all about the money, it seems, and getting you in as often as possible and on some sort of schedule without an explanation of why it is important. I got a whole lot of negative attitude after I decided to wait a bit on the $18,300 stem cell treatment which may or may not have brought me back to good old 50 percent...but wait, the fine print said, sorry there's no guarantee. That isn't going to work for me, ever. read more

After years of chronic pain due to nerve damage from a car accident, I saw Dr. Mark for chiropractic adjustments. He helped me come up with a treatment program to strengthen my muscles and prevent flare ups, getting to the root of the problem. I'm happy with the email reminders and scheduling, as well as new services such as weight management tips and massage therapy. The office also offers flexible payment options as well as insurance billing. Dr. Mark is focused on healing and is always so accommodating. I have been a patient in the past and loved coming here. Mark is fantastic! However, I have now come back after a year and it feels like a chaotic mess here. My appointment was scheduled to meet with him for an adjustment and I did not even get taken back until at least an hour after it was scheduled for. They kept saying he wants to see me and clearly I made the appointment to be seen by him to get adjusted. They took vitals which was new, all the nice tables to stretch out on and equipment is no longer here, and the staff is constantly changing. Not a place to come if you want a quick in and out or if you like being seen anywhere near on time. read more

If you are someone who wants a more personable experience, then this is NOT the place for you. - I went there about 5 times (4 times too many, to be honest). Every time, I was not taken back until 20-30 mins after my appointment time. -Every time I was brought back to the physical therapy room for "treatment", the room was full and the therapist was going back and forth in the middle of my treatment to take care of the others. And honestly, it was just weird. I never got a good vibe, but I felt that I should just give it a chance. - Every time I saw the chiropractor after my xrays, he would talk about a "treatment plan" that he will go over with me "next time" but then never discuss it and will say that he wants me to come in 3 times a week first and then we will go over it..? But, EVERY time would tell me how long the treatment will be and every time was different lengths. "2 months", 8 months", "at least 4 months". Yeah, okay, Buddy! -My final straw was when I was there for an hour and a half, and only 15 minutes of it was actual treatment. The rest was my lying on the table between treatments for the therapist to take care of another patient, then come back to me, then leave me in the middle of something to take care of another patient. Then sitting in a room for 40 minutes for the chiropractor to come in and ask how I was doing. Then was about to leave and I had to ask about my adjustment, and he was like, "oh, you haven't gotten one yet?" Ummmm.. no, that is what I have been waiting in this small room 40 minutes for!! -Also, side note, a week after my last adjustment, I ended up in the ER from Thoracic back spasm (Holy Moly! Scary and excruciatingly painful). BE CAREFUL, Chiropractic adjustments might not be the best for your situation. And you should go somewhere that takes your well-being into account. Some people may be totally cool with this places style. But, I prefer if I am going to go somewhere, they at least pretend to care about you and not make it apparent that it is all about the money, Honey! read more

He is skilled at adjusting and has helped me with my neck. He has also referred out to some rich platelet therapy so that I don't need to be adjusted as often. He has an x-ray machine at this location as well. Unlike many doctors who are overweight and fail to keep themselves physically fit, Dr. Gabriel sets an example of optimal health. read more

I bought a Groupon for an hour massage and was cared for by the lovely Lacey Graham LMP. I don't normally care for massages because people tend to miss the spots that need attention on my body just by a little bit and it's frustrating not relaxing. Lacey was perfect in getting to those trouble areas and her pressure was right on point based on what I had requested (medium hard). It was also very pleasant sharing in conversation. I had specific requests to increase blood flow to my main reproductive area and she was very attentive to that. She also recommended a naturopath for my current concerns and gave me a gift certificate. I can say without a doubt, this was the best massage that I have ever received. I am a student with some degeneration in my spine. Dr. Mark Gabriel knew my situation, he knew I was in school and didn't have much money. I went to a few appointments while waiting to see if my insurance would cover my costs,. He kept reassuring me that he had to do this with patients before and not to worry that they can take OHP. This was an outright lie, After talking to OHP, I have come to find that they do not and will not cover chiropractic, even with a referral from your primary care doctor. I said to him several times that I felt worried about continuing to come in for appointments while waiting for confirmation, in case my insurance didn't accept the claim. I told him I could not afford the bill. He told me not to worry about it and that he would keep, "Helping me out." I assumed this meant he was helping me, not tallying up a bill behind my back. I asked him several times what would happen if my insurance wouldn't cover me, and he always gave me some vague answer assuring me that everything would be fine and not to worry about the money. When they found out OHP wouldn't cover me, he had his office person at the time spring a huge bill on me during an appointment one day. She seemed apprehensive and upset doing it, as we had spoken about my situation in the past, and a few weeks later she was gone from the office. He 'diagnosed' me with high thyroid (my doctor could find no indication of this) and said I should take some supplement that he sells. He tried to sell things at every appointment, which I found very salesman-like and unprofessional. Stay away from this guy, he's just out for money and will give you the wrong impression just to get it. I don't expect free service, but I was lied to, and it took me months of leaving kind messages to even get a hold of him to ask about working this out. read more

I am so surprised by how unprofessional the staff was here! I arrived early for an appointment (which is pretty standard, I think) and no one was in the waiting room. I waited over 10 minutes, and then because it was almost time for my appointment I called around to see if anyone was actually there. A man came out and rudely told me that they were in a staff meeting and I needed to wait. When I expressed my frustration, he and multiple staff members became defensive and almost angry. I ended up leaving. They could have apologized or explained what was going on-- but their first reaction to a patient who was frustrated was to be defensive and pretty rude. I find that very unprofessional and it's totally inappropriate in a health care setting. read more

Based on reviews, I have been trying to schedule an appointment to see Dr Mark Gabriel since last Thursday. I filled out their online appointment request form, and I left 2 phone messages over the span of a few days. No one ever picks up the phone. They don't return messages. I called this morning, and Mark actually picked up. He said he could see me but then put me on hold for the office manager to schedule my appointment. After waiting on hold for 15 minutes, I hung. I then tried calling several more times only to go to voice mail, b/c they don't pick up. I'm sure Mark is great, but the Wellness Center clearly needs new office staff.
