I will give 5 stars for the Westin Chicago North Shore. The room was a pretty decent size and very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was amazing. I loved the rainfall shower head and the hand held shower tool was great too. I forgot something in my room after check out, and the front desk person was nice enough to let me go back to retrieve my item as well. Marriot in general is a really nice hotel chain, one of my favorites. I'd definitely recommend a stay at this location if you want a nice, comfortable room in a good area. read more

Wedding season is upon us again and I attended another one at The Westin. I've been here for wedding festivities in the past, seems to be a popular venue. I got a room for a couple nights at the hotel and overall, everything is fine. The rooms are quite outdated with hues of brown decorating the furniture, bedding and decor. Not my vibe but everything worked fine in the room so no complaints but it just felt kinda old. The parking lot is a hike. Very huge parking lots and they are to the side of the actual hotel so you'll have a long walk no matter where you park. There is a drop off area though. The pool is beyond wack. Well it's not that bad but the most insane bait and switch. Check out the photo they posted on Google, then look at my photo. I was lied to! LOL! The pool was hot as a sauna which I liked but may not be for everyone. They hold tons of events, and if you aren't here staying for an event, you may not care for it. The "nice" hotels in this area are hard to come by so the Westin is my top preference. The beds are big and comfy and plenty of space in the bathroom. If you're a Marriott status holder with M Club access, the dinner option was very good and the server in the Club was very nice. My only caution with this hotel is the parking lot is a bit of a walk. The parking lot needs repaving so difficult to pull a suitcase and it needs much better lighting at night. It's an uncomfortable walk in the dark when you're traveling alone. read more

Had no problems here, clean rooms and club room access on the 16th floor. In the rather small Club room on 16th floor, water and sodas, snacks are available until 10pm. Free hotel parking is a tad far from the main entrance on either side of the building. The area to right does have conference rooms and you can enter from the parking lot if unlocked. Adjacent restaurant in the building with bar. Perhaps a little high prices for convenience. Lots of options nearby and down Milwaukee Ave. Hotel is showing its age. I'm writing this review about the employees and Sylvia in the lounge in the 16 floor is a gem! I stayed in the hotel for five days so every morning I went up for coffee and fruit and she was there and she was just so lovely helping everyone totally engaged in the customers and completely genuine. I really enjoyed chatting with her briefly each morning, and I will also say that the front desk was awesome upon checking in and checking out. I also had a package delivered to the hotel everything with that went very smooth. The rooms themselves need a bit of updating and I hadn't stayed there since during Covid but the location is excellent. The Italian restaurant downstairs is super. The employees are amazing. It just needs a little freshen up, but other than that I highly recommend the hotel. read more

I've stayed at my fair share of Marriotts, but haven't had the pleasure of staying at this Westin yet. I probably won't since I live only 20 minutes away, but we did have the pleasure of attending a bar mitzvah here last night. We started off in the lobby outside of the ballroom for cocktail hour where we enjoyed some drinks and apps (coconut chicken and raspberry brie bites to name a few). From there we made our way into the spacious ballroom, which was a nice size for the 160ish people attending. I'd guess you could fit 200 easily in this ballroom. I typically fill up on apps and desserts at mitzvahs because I don't find the food to be very good, but this was some of the better food I've had. They had stations: sushi, sliders and tacos. My husband enjoyed it all, but I stuck with the sushi (even went up for seconds) and enjoyed a bunch of pieces as well as edamame. They brought in desserts from our vendors so can't comment on those, but nice that they are flexible with that since i know many venues aren't. read more

We absolutely loved this hotel! We were in town for two nights and this was close to many restaurants and bars. They have a Starbucks in the lobby and there's another one in the parking lot! It's a huge event hotel, huge lobby and lots of parking. There is a restaurant on site and at least four more in the parking lot or across the street. Our room was huge, very clean and the bedding was premium! Lots of nice amenities such as starbucks in the room, nice lotions and even a lavender roller for bedtime! We had a refrigerator in the room as well. No issues here, would highly recommend! read more

Arrived early and when I checked in via the app, I selected an earlier check-in time and thankfully the room was ready before the selected check-in time. This was nice because I needed to drop off my stuff before head back out. The doors near to the parking lot is all locked expect one and that one is hard to open from outside as I've learned later on. You need to use all your strength to pull it open. The staff member was welcoming and answered all my questions that I had, went up to my room. The room was decent, expected bit more with "Westin" title, but it'll do. Maybe it's time for some major renovations :) They have Starbucks at the lobby, but it's not affiliated with Starbucks. It's locally ran by the hotel staff and they do not take Starbucks App. If you want to use your app to get the points or use your card to pay, then walk about 3 to 5 minutes to brand new Starbucks around the corner. The room itself was spacious and open. It did have a mini-fridge, but no microwave. Bed was firm, just the way I liked it. Decent one night stay, however could only give three stars on this first visit. read more

I hope this review is not confusing. I want to give 5 stars for the events and conference center team. I also want to give 3 stars for the actual hotel rooms and issues therein. Therefore, the average comes to 4 stars. Events Team Having an event at this Westin is great. There are huge ballrooms that will accommodate hundreds of guests. I found the staff and the coordinators were critical in giving the guests an amazing experience. I loved how kind the team was when we had questions. The food options were also really great and well made. Lots of flavors and a good mix of options for dietary needs. Food was awesome and modern. Hotel Rooms Many different colleagues had issues with their rooms. * thermostats that didn't work properly * missing or broken TV remotes * one person said that their whole floor had no hot water this morning * no outlets close to the bed So host an event here and leverage the amazing staff, but don't stay here as the issues were too many to be a coincidence. I'm going to preface this review with a little transparency. I am a diamond Hilton member. Hilton is usually my go-to. I was invited to a wedding being held at the Westin hotel. It's usually best and safest to have a room where the party is located. So I went ahead and booked my room. The lobby is warm, spacious, and welcoming. The team was friendly and hand me checked in promptly. I had a double queen room. The room was spacious, updated, and clean. The bathroom is well appointed to meet all of your needs. The best part for me was the rain shower head. The pressure was perfect. I also was able to take a hot hot shower. The linens are thick and fluffy. As a fuller bodied person, I found the towels to be very generous. The beds were very comfortable. The variety of linens allowed me to stay as cool or as warm as I wanted. I usually have to call the desk for at least one extra blanket. The pillows are thick and fluffy. The queen bed has four pillows. I could have done with two of these fluffy pillows and two flatter pillows. In fairness, I should just travel with my own. I found the Westin bed to be superior to the Hilton beds. The firmness, the linen, and pillows made for two exceptional nights sleep. This review includes the event space. This hotel was incredibly busy. There were several events that weekend. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. There was a cocktail reception in one of the smaller rooms. The main ballroom was phenomenal. The reception hosted 300+ people. The room was full but did not feel crowded or overwhelmed. The wait staff was personable and professional. The food was absolutely delicious. My only complaint is that the dance floor could have been a bit bigger. For a traditional Indian wedding, dancing is a requirement for guests of all ages. In all, my stay was exceptional and exceed my standards and expectations. I look forward to visiting this or another Westin location in the future. read more

The rooms itself had outdated and scratched furniture and I wasn't impressed by the size either. At the very least I expected hotel staff to be friendly and accommodating. It was old and in bad condition. My son had his wedding down the block and we reserved many rooms. I couldn't believe the bridle room and groomsman rooms had riped leather. Beautiful hotel and lobby was opulent, nice and open. Great location including restaurants walking distance and a coffee shop on the lobby level that serves Starbucks but does not accept the Starbucks app. My room was spacious, modern and very clean. It was located at the very end of the floor that opened up into a long hallway, fluffy king bed and a Peloton bike by the window. I was seriously wowed by the fact my room had a Peloton and I definitely used it the next morning before starting my work day. We highly recommend The Westin Chicago North Shore if you're looking for a hotel block to accommodate your wedding guests. The staff at The Westin Chicago North Shore deserve the highest praise for how valuable they were in making our wedding weekend as smooth as possible for us and our guests. Veronica Colpaert, the Social Sales Manager, coordinated a wedding block for our guests to book leading up to the wedding and facilitated delivering the gift bags that we had made for our guests. She was always friendly and prompt in her communication. In one particular situation, Gorges Dawood, the Director of Front Office, really saved us. There was a miscalculation on our part which led to us being short one room for our parents. He calmly double-checked all the records and found another room for us on the spot and gave us the same discounted rate as our current block. On the day before the wedding, the last thing we needed was more stress, and thankfully we had Gorges and the rest of the hotel staff who made everything great for us and our wedding guests. Our wedding was located at Chevy Chase Country Club, from which The Westin Chicago North Shore is conveniently located down the street. That significantly reduced travel time for us and our bridal party as we had a jam-packed day. It also significantly reduced travel time for our family and friends, many of whom travelled out of state to attend the wedding. NOT even close to the standard of what Westin should be. They have been known for having classy, clean hotels with amazing mattresses and fun little amenities (ie the rain shower head), but sadly this particular Westin is circling the drain. It seems to me looking in from the outside that they just have not put in any effort to maintain the building to standards. Not sure if the chain as a whole is having financial issues, or the problem is just the particular location - but either way - I could not in good conscience advise someone to stay here, any longer. My company is nearby and this is one of our 'preferred' hotels where employees stay when they come into town. Back in the day, this used to be the place to stay! Everyone loved how fancy it seemed, loved their amazing mattresses and bedding, and the nice little extras like the rain shower head. But they seem to not be putting in ANY effort to keep the hotel up to par. They are failing in many areas. At surface level, it's a gorgeous hotel! It looks impressive from the outside, and the first floor is very pretty! They use some really strong scent however, which to me is really off-putting. It's like a mix of perfume and cleaner. Gross. But everything on the first level looks really nice, which is very misleading. On my most recent stay I got up to my room and immediately noticed the overpowering smell of mold/mildew. I walked over to the vent where the air comes out and there was literal mold on the vent itself as well as the surrounding wall area and behind the curtains. I went right back down and told them of the problem and requested a new room. I got into my new room and while it still did not smell pleasant, i didnt see any visible mold. In general, here are the biggest issues I either noticed or experienced myself: - the carpets everywhere are stained and gross looking, and falling apart - the smell is so overwhelming. Whether it's the crappy scented stuff they pump in, or the mold, or just the general room smelll, YUCK. And when you get home, all your clothing smells of it too. So even if you didnt wear the clothes you still have to wash them - Everything is starting to age and look a beat-up (the furniture, fridges, nightstands, etc) - the fridges barely work. Now I insist on staying somewhere with a fridge, but when it barely keeps anything cool it's not helpful. And whether you set it to 1 or 8, seems the temperature knob is just there to act as a placebo effect - the mattresses are not the quality they used to be. The mattress was just ok. You used to never want to get out of bed! Not anymore. Now I'm happy to get up, cuz these mattresses are not really comfortable. Additionally, the one i had most recently was squeaking!! Every time you get in and out of the bed, major squeaks. Like you're staying on grandma's 50 year old pull out couch - the rooms are SOOOOO dark. The lighting is horrible On the plus side: location is great! There's an attached restaurant (Saranellos) which is really good, and there are additional restaurants very nearby (walking distance) as well as a Starbucks both inside the hotel as well as another one in the strip mall out front. The front desk is generally fast and friendly. They usually greet you coming and going. They also have lots of event rooms. It's nearby several main highways, thus easy to get to basically anywhere you want to go. Tons of parking, but it's quite a hike no matter where you park. While this hotel has been my "go to" when coming into the local office, sadly this was my last stay here. I'm done. I'll be switching to one of the other area hotels that is more up to date and comfortable. They're still charging "Westin" prices, however the quality of stay is no better than a basic low-end hotel. I have stayed here over 8 times for work and finally called it quits. The staff is great, the location is very convenient, and my room has always been clean. However, 3/4ths of the time I get put in a room that just smells awful. It's a weird mildew smell that seems to permeate many of their rooms. One time it was so strong I had to open a window. I couldn't switch rooms as the hotel was full. That was the ultimate dealbreaker, which is a shame. read more

EMPLOYEES HERE STEAL PHONES!! Let me explain so last weekend my high school had their prom here. 20 minutes after we finished eating and hit the dance floor, It was announced that 3 students had their phones stolen after leaving them on their dinner tables!! We seriously think it was the employees who had taken them because one of the phones was tracked to a random location in a neighboring town but nobody was allowed to leave during the prom and we all had to go back home on buses where as the employees were allowed to leave immediately after serving us which was when the phones were reported stolen. I cannot believe it We paid $110 to get in there! And they steal our phones!! my friend was one of them! And her whole night was ruined because of that!! read more

It is definitely OK, but it's not great, and the Westin should be at a higher standard. The room itself was pleasant, and other than easily "deflated" pillows, the bed was good. The lights that were supposed to turn on in the room's entry way of sorts flickered whenever switched on. It's little things like this that aren't the end of the world but also not really at the level of what the Westin tries to convey, instead of their brand of ~*~*~luxury. I also find it annoying that their shower is so bad. I noticed this at another Westin: they have a rainshower of sorts. It looks luxurious and photographs well in promotional materials, but the water pressure is frustratingly little. I was looking forward to using their fitness center's Peloton. It would be my first time using one outside of my own house (or my sister's before I had mine!). It was disappointing in so many ways. The machine was completely rusted, to the point where any pedal movement produced creaky loud noises. There was truly rust everywhere. It looked like something recovered inside a shipwreck! Also, the toe cages (used instead of various clips, instead to accommodate anyone's sneakers/athletic shoes) were completely broken on the left pedal, so there was nothing keeping the shoe on the pedal. There are supposed to be three straps, more or less, and there was just a front one. Also, there was no water bottle holder, which was weird. I then tried to access a class in good faith, even though my headphones were not connecting and the machine's audio would not overpower the creeeeeaaaak sound. Then it said the class couldn't be loaded. Amazing stuff. This hotel likes to show off that it has a Peloton, but if it doesn't work at all and is completely gross and decrepit, does it really have one? I politely let them know at the front desk, after waiting behind one customer for 10+ minutes, that it wasn't working. Another staff member walked over and told me how to login, but that was not the issue here. They said they'd send an engineer for the software part. I honestly think they should just get a new one - it is that bad. What was nice is that they offered to have me stay in the room that had a Peloton, which is a cool idea. I thanked them but declined, since I didn't want to move rooms. I went back to the gym to try other stationary bikes with my Peloton app on my phone. Neither stationary bike seemed to work well. One had trouble with the pedals - not rusted, just no apparent way to get them moving normally. The other had a touchscreen that would've been cutting edge in 2007 at the latest - it barely responded to any sort of touch. I finally went on their treadmill with a Peloton Tread class on my phone, which was good. Their treadmills are actually pretty well updated and have lots of cool features, so that is good. Oddly enough, the gym is split into two rooms, and the key card is finicky regarding entry. The room with the cardio machines is very cold, which I did not mind. The room with the weights is ridiculously hot and stuffy. Very strange! read more

[480] I stayed here for work and the large room was nicely decorated. The hotel was very modern and new looking. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom had nice fixtures and plenty of hot water. Wifi is free and worked well. The main lobby was inviting and many choose to relax in the lobby instead of their room. The staff was very friendly. There is a nicer type restaurant and a Starbucks so I can easily grab a breakfast sandwich. Could use a little café since not everyone likes Starbucks. There is a Dunkin Donuts near by. We were a mess when we arrived. We couldn't afford plane tickets, so for our child's chess tournament, we drove non-stop 40 hours to arrive at the hotel. We were stressed out because we thought we'd be late for the tournament start. We were literally sleeping at the parking lot as we were too tired to check in. Nicholas remembered us. We wait in the lobby for the tourneys and watch how Nicholas cares about each guest like a friend. He didn't have to, but he did everything possible and personally made sure I had a bed. Emily benefited from Nicholas's care, and the general friendliness and help from the front desk. Sometimes she borrowed pens, scissors - it helped her so much to make her little creations during the hours between games. Mosha has a great sense of humor. Georges Dawood is the Manager that keeps this amazing team treating guests like a small Bed and Breakfast - but of course is a huge modern building with multiple gyms, massive pool, and a 24 hour Starbucks. Just an amazing team that behaves and treats each other like family. Housekeeping too - we left out airpods etc. Chess was really having us run around and we left messes. And the housekeeping was honest and kind. Always eager to help. Emily ended up getting interviewed for a major magazine. We credit Westin CNS for making us at our best. The Westin Chicago North Shore staff has very little and I mean little customer service appeal. Hey guys and gals it's ok to smile at people. I prefer to look a person in the eye and say hello. My first time here and I know there has to me more love than this In Illinois. We're gonna find some love out here. I paid too much money for The cold water to be hot every time we turn it on. That sucks for a brand like this. This location needs a renovation and a revitalized staff. No real Vibe here. Nice rooms though. The engineer pulled the "fire alarm" by mistake we were told at 3:30 in the morning. The alarm sounded for more than 15 minutes Not Sure how or why. Some things you let go of at a certain point. My experience here with Saranello's and this Hotel are the similar in terms of service. However...a few people on staff were helpful. They assisted us with directions. Maybe it was a bad week or weekend. A place this size should really have a nice vibe to it. We went all over Illinois and I must say we had a great time out and about in Evanston, Glencoe, Barrington, Wheeling and Downtown Chicago. read more

I've stayed here many times over the years, you'll get the typical comfy Westin bed and nice decor though as with smaller market Westins the service can be a bit hit or miss. By far it's the nicest hotel in this area though, so unless you want to go into the city there's not much to legitimately complain about. Prices are generally higher than I would prefer, but it's supply & demand so feel free to go elsewhere if you want. For me, this is my place to stay when I'm in the area and will continue to be. It's not perfect, but for the area it's definitely about as good as you'll find. read more

Overall the hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Customer service was great throughout the facility during my stay. Bed and bedding was clean and very comfortable. The room could use a little updating but overall I'd rate them above satisfactory. The one drawback is in the conference wing the high ceilings have spider webs, cobwebs and bug nest all along the wall and ceiling. Gross!!! So don't look up. Fortunately it appears to be limited to the higher areas and not evident in lower areas where guest congregate. I managed to keep my eyes down and enjoyed my stay. read more

This was ok. Not my favorite. But let me start with what I did like...they have a rainforest shower head which is amazing! I like the double closet for storage and handing your clothes, especially if you are two people in the same room. With two suitcase stands. I like the spacious size of the room and the bed. I like that is is close to O'hare Chicago airport. I like that the bathroom had a robe they offered. I like the big size of the TV in the room that is in HD Pure. What I did not like...the choice of toiletries. They had a generic brand for their soap, lotion etc. I think going with a well known brand like Thann Aromatic Woods that the other Marriott properties have. Or Aveda etc. They could also add a polish cloth, I did not see a blow dryer unless I missed it or complimentary shower cap. Having a eco-green program would be great too for towels and having your housekeeping done etc. Would be great. I also would have preferred to have the toilet and shower separate spaces like at Ritz Carlton. Also, I was not able to use my Marriotts Rewards here even though they are under the Marriott umbrella. They are still SPG. Also, they did not offer rewards members free wifi like other Marriott hotels do. My room had no complimentary bottled water even though I had a sign that said there was water. It would be nice to have charging docks for your devices by each bedside instead of all the way on the office bureau. Everyone is connected these days, they need to consider that and offer more charge docks. I had some postcards to mail but they did not stamp them for you at the front desk. When I stay at most hotels, the concierge will stamp postcards. Here, you had to buy the stamps?! The decor of the room was average as is the hotel itself. I did not really see a clear theme to create ambience but I did like the Italian restaurant downstairs. read more

Nothing worse than starting your shower and looking to your left and seeing a bunch of hair on the wall. Jumped out to realize the drain was full of hair too. Obviously they didn't bother to clean very well. What makes this even worse is that it's during COVID and they should have taken extra cleaning measures. Since my first review, there's been a few changes here, the most significant being Westin having been acquired by Marriott. The convention center is still great, the beds are still comfortable, the staff are still helpful. Still, since then, there's plusses and minuses. The most important plus for me is WiFi, now available in your room. Getting this was so overdue. They continue to have the "go green" option, where you can opt out of maid service and get a perk, either a voucher for credit in their restaurant or cafe, or reward points. But how they do this changed. Previously, you left a sign on your room door, and it was handled by someone overnight. Now you SUPPOSEDLY have the option to specify how you want this handled when you check in. I say "supposedly," because I saw no evidence this was handled correctly for me. I did indicate my preference at check-in (green, voucher). On the morning after passing on maid service, no voucher... they said it was supposed to have been slipped under the door. When I checked at the desk, I got "I'm sorry, we have no record of you having specified," so I re-specified... first time. The next day, same thing. So I went to the desk, re-specified, again, and they gave me 2 vouchers immediately. Your system appears not to be working. And now that they are part of the Marriott family, in conjunction with the green option, you now get the annoying flashing light on your phone reminding you that you did not request room service, and that you may still do so. They do this with a pre-recorded message to your phone followed by "but there is a message held for you at the front desk." So you have to either call the front desk or visit them and request to have the message marked "delivered" so it will be deleted. I reported my annoyance of this at the last Marriott at which I stayed too. And finally, there's air-conditioning, or lack of it, in October. My first night there, the room was 73 when I entered, so I set it on Cool and 69 degrees. The rest of the evening, and overnight, the temperature climbed to 78 in the room. I was going to complain, until I heard that someone else also attending the hotel for the same convention had complained, and they learned that the hotel typically shuts the air conditioning off at the beginning of October. Here's a tip: Rooms can still be warmer than desired in October. Your only solution is to open your window and keep it ajar all day and night, with the cold air coming in blowing over the foot of your bed. The only reason I stay here is I belong to an organization which has a nice contract with this hotel for conventions and events. I appreciate that very much. However this is not a place I would put as my first choice necessarily if staying in the area for personal travel. read more

Really disappointing - see picture attached. Positives: They have a decent fitness studio, coffee shop and at least 5 restaurants in walking distance to the hotel Negative: Rooms are fine but poorly maintained from a long term perspective. I was assigned to a room with a stench of moldy air. To remedy the situation, I blasted the AC, which would have helped if the AC vent was not caked with gross black mold. So, the choice was to sleep in hot stale air or blast cold but moldy air to sleep. In short, the place seems to be ignoring pretty basic long term maintenance. I won't be staying there again. I left the hotel a night early and stayed with friends instead. read more

***Edit*** I noticed a manager of the hotel responded to my review to make it look like I was in the wrong. I stay at hotels 3-4 time a month for my job and this is the only hotel that has ever charged me an additional $100. So it may be common place for hotels in the Chicago area, but as far as the rest of the country goes, I have never had that issue. He also mentioned that there was a sign, incorrect. I had two other people with me and neither of them remember a sign. The only sign posted was about dogs because there was a grooming convention going on. They did not mention it at check in or check out and thankfully I had the extra $100 in my account. So I will repeat myself, this hotel is sneaky. ***Edit*** I will start this review off by saying I loved my room and loved the amenities. I stayed here with a friend for a weekend conference and it was a lovely experience overall. But after check out I noticed that my card had been charged an additional $100 than what I had agreed upon when I reserved my room online (I have all the paperwork). I was told that was a security deposit and that since i paid with a debit card it would take several days to show up in my account. I was beyond livid. I debated even giving them 2 star. What they did was unethical and sneaky, two things I do not appreciate. I purchased my hotel room through a third party site (Travelocity I believe) and there was no mention of a security deposit, nor did the mention it at check in or check out. My colleagues told me about this hotel, so I moved from Marriott Lincolnshire this week. It seems my company has a great contract rate with the hotel. I got there a bit after midnight, but the front desk agent was very friendly and professional. I was told that I was upgraded to the top floor/corner room (Executive Club Floor) due to my SPG Platinum membership status. I was also provided meal vouchers for Sun evening appetizers/Mon morning breakfast since Executive Club Lounge is closed for these hours. The room is nice and clean with the standard Westin setup. The bathroom is spacious and it comes with a shower booth and a deep bath tub. It seems the hotel is like only 3-4 years old. The Executive Club Lounge attendants are very friendly. They come to introduce themselves, and try to get to know you. Decent spreads - both mornings and evenings. read more

I've stayed here several times pre covid and had great experiences. The crazy times now (during covid) have created many challenges for hotels. The check in was very quick and painless and it seemed clean and safe and all that. It's a shame that the restaurants adjacent and nearby are only takeout but it is what it is. Nice place for a stay in the neighborhood suburbs. read more

This hotel was very nice. I love Westins and this location did not disappoint! The lobby was nice and big; my family could all sit comfortably and visit. We were in town for a wedding and this was the perfect place to stay. Their Italian restaurant had delicious food. My younger son is an expert on Chicken Parmesan and he said theirs was the best! They have a nice little coffee and pastry type shop that we utilized all four days of our stay! Highly recommend! read more
