    Nice outdoor area

Wedding season is upon us again and I attended another one at The Westin. I've been here for wedding festivities in the past, seems to be a popular venue. I got a room for a couple nights at the hotel and overall, everything is fine. The rooms are quite outdated with hues of brown decorating the furniture, bedding and decor. Not my vibe but everything worked fine in the room so no complaints but it just felt kinda old. The parking lot is a hike. Very huge parking lots and they are to the side of the actual hotel so you'll have a long walk no matter where you park. There is a drop off area though. The pool is beyond wack. Well it's not that bad but the most insane bait and switch. Check out the photo they posted on Google, then look at my photo. I was lied to! LOL! The pool was hot as a sauna which I liked but may not be for everyone. They hold tons of events, and if you aren't here staying for an event, you may not care for it. I sure would not stay here if an event was not occurring. Sorry, Westin!

Smaller club room on the top 16th floor, great views

Had no problems here, clean rooms and club room access on the 16th floor. In the rather small Club room on 16th floor, water and sodas, snacks are available until 10pm. Free hotel parking is a tad far from the main entrance on either side of the building. The area to right does have conference rooms and you can enter from the parking lot if unlocked. Adjacent restaurant in the building with bar. Perhaps a little high prices for convenience. Lots of options nearby and down Milwaukee Ave. Hotel is showing its age. They have updated the baths with rain showers at a decent height which is nice.

Model of how big the hotel is!

We absolutely loved this hotel! We were in town for two nights and this was close to many restaurants and bars. They have a Starbucks in the lobby and there's another one in the parking lot! It's a huge event hotel, huge lobby and lots of parking. There is a restaurant on site and at least four more in the parking lot or across the street. Our room was huge, very clean and the bedding was premium! Lots of nice amenities such as starbucks in the room, nice lotions and even a lavender roller for bedtime! We had a refrigerator in the room as well. No issues here, would highly recommend!

Arrived early and when I checked in via the app, I selected an earlier check-in time and thankfully the room was ready before the selected check-in time. This was nice because I needed to drop off my stuff before head back out. The doors near to the parking lot is all locked expect one and that one is hard to open from outside as I've learned later on. You need to use all your strength to pull it open. The staff member was welcoming and answered all my questions that I had, went up to my room. The room was decent, expected bit more with "Westin" title, but it'll do. Maybe it's time for some major renovations :) They have Starbucks at the lobby, but it's not affiliated with Starbucks. It's locally ran by the hotel staff and they do not take Starbucks App. If you want to use your app to get the points or use your card to pay, then walk about 3 to 5 minutes to brand new Starbucks around the corner. The room itself was spacious and open. It did have a mini-fridge, but no microwave. Bed was firm, just the way I liked it. Decent one night stay, however could only give three stars on this first visit.

There are great things about the hotel. The absolute best thing is the enormous shower. The next thing is the windows. They were huge and I really loved that. The rooms itself had outdated and scratched furniture and I wasn't impressed by the size either. At the very least I expected hotel staff to be friendly and accommodating. I just wasn't impressed overall but I was glad to at least say I tried it.

Beautiful hotel and lobby was opulent, nice and open. Great location including restaurants walking distance and a coffee shop on the lobby level that serves Starbucks but does not accept the Starbucks app. My room was spacious, modern and very clean. It was located at the very end of the floor that opened up into a long hallway, fluffy king bed and a Peloton bike by the window. I was seriously wowed by the fact my room had a Peloton and I definitely used it the next morning before starting my work day. I would definitely stay here again whenever I'm back in the area.

As many pointed out the hotel is very dated and most of it is run down and beat up. The pool is rather small and even bit hard to even find, which is weird because why have a small pool thats not that easy to find in the first place? The surrounding area is like a forest and a nature preserve looking pond. People in our group saw all kinds of random forest animals when they went back there. Everyone at the front desk were nice and professional and genuinely sincere in helping me and my groups issues get resolved, except for the front desk manager. I forgot her name she is a Latina women with glasses. She was not as friendly and kind as the rest of her front desk team. She was by far the worst one working at the front desk by far. You had to wonder how the hell is she even the front desk manager??? She basically had me repeat all of the long list of issues that we had that the other front desk team members already were in the process of resolving for me causing me further nuisance. She basically did not believe what my story was for some reason and wanted me to prove to her that I was not lying. Like WTF? I was in town for business meetings why would I make up a BS story to try to bother the front desk in the first place? As a Gold HH you get like $18 a day credit so you can use that for food/beverage or the small convenience store behind the front desk. Most of the people in my group used the $18 on waters, oj bottles, chips, gum etc. So the $18 a day credit was pretty cool until like day 3 they ran out of stuff and did not restock anything until our trip was over. I saw others complain about cars getting broken into and car parts getting stolen in the parking lot, I fortunately did not have this problem or felt any concern/danger for that and the parking lot areas, but a few of the days some teenagers came over to hang out at the hotel and tried to swim and hang out in the lobby and other areas of the hotel. I'm not sure if they were actual hotel guests or just some teenagers trying to use the hotel as a hang out spot or what was going on? It would have been nice if security kicked those teenagers out for being loud and a nuisance but it seemed like there was no security really working at all from what I saw? Just a janitor/grounds keeper looking people who were gone once their shifts ended. The coolest part of my stay was probably my room as it had a larger deep soaking jacuzzi tub in it and the jets actually worked rather well like a real jacuzzi. I think had my room not have that I'd probably give this place only 1 or 2 stars then. I would not stay here again unless it was like a really good reason to like our meetings were actually happening in their banquet rooms or something.

I had to double check that I was at the right address because when I arrived it was dark and the hotel was somewhat secluded. I have family that lives in Chicago that we had dinner in the hotel dining room and it was a little eerie because we were the only ones there. I had French Onion soup that was really good but we could not help but to continually note that there was a lack of people around. This is definitely an older Hilton property and does not look like it has seen any renovations in the last 15-20 years. Not that it looked bad but it definitely did not give the "modern hotel" vibe. The phone in the room was very old and the same model phone that was on my desk when I started my first job pre-2000. The room was spacious, clean and had a very comfortable bed. The staff was very friendly. Overall if you are looking for the modern Hilton experience, this ain't it. If you are looking for a decent place to stay this will do.

We arrived early to our hotel and the staff let us check in early. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. There was plenty of on-site parking in the back of the building which has key card access. The elevator did not have long wait times, which I was thankful for. The room was very clean, however the first few days the hallways were not vacuumed and were quite messy. The elevators need to be mopped more frequently as well since there were two days of coffee spilled on the floors. The room had a refrigerator that was decent sized, only wish it had a freezer area inside. There was also a microwave in the room. The AC worked great and kept the room at a cool 69 degrees, which was lovely after coming inside from the terrible heat we experienced while visiting. The surrounding are was very quiet. There are food options very close, including the next parking lot over. I experienced a flight cancellation as I was getting ready to check out and the staff was excellent about letting us stay in the room past check out while I figured out what my plan was. I tell myself "it's temporary" i can grunge out the next couple weeks. Under the blanket is a sheet that has a nasty ass black hole the size of a baseball. Luckily i brought my own blanket and pillow. Note I do not complain Night 1- I have my Apple TV set up and watching a movie on Netflix- the WiFi and cable go out and I give it 30 mins - nothing changes so I go to the manager /owner office . He continues in the epitome of Asshole slum motel owner tone- "only u complain" . Another guest walks in and says "cable out" . He lies and says he scheduled Comcast to come by next day . I take it upon myself to call Comcast and get the cable back on. WEEK one is over - and it's time for my weekly clean of the room. I come home from work and the disgusting comforter and holey blanket is made very nicely - unfortunately the broken light bulb , the dust and all the sewer bugs are still swarming the room and the black burned hole on the sheet is still on the bed. WHAT I LEARNED IS HE MAKES A GOOD BED AND VACUUMS THE FLOOR IN Under 2.5 mins I spoke to other guests and his price ranges based on his discrimination judgements. Some people were paying 300-and some 340 a week. He asks me not to speak to other guests ..oh yeah that's a normal request- about as normal as his longest tenure tenant knocking on my Door every night after 11pm asking me "is ok if you don't use your microwave , I would like to blow dry my hair"- don't ask as I didn't even bother to add this up. In all the owner yelled at me and treated me like a college dorm kid with an explosive tone on everything from talking to guests , asking to change the sheets. If anyone even considers giving this owner money u need to be prepared for a bed bug , roach crawling infested nightmare that is paradise in comparison to the man that runs the place ..

When we asked if we could check out late the next day, she said we would have to call the front desk the next morning to find out. Two hours later my boyfriend went back down to the front desk and asked another staff member if we could check out late. She said yes, we could check out at 1:30pm. I went to the front desk to get change for the laundry machines. The staff member said it was $3 for a load of laundry. I gave her a $10 bill and told her to give me change for two loads. She gave me $2 in quarters. Turns out she was distracted because she was talking on her personal phone. We went down for breakfast the next morning at 7:40am. And ... yes, we found bed bugs, and they feasted on me by biting me on my forearms, upper arms, hands, behind my year, lower legs, see pics! At first, we thought these could just be regular insect bites, it is muggy outside with and the mosquitos in the Midwest can be bad in July. However, it didn't take us long until we found the real culprits for my bite-riddled arms, head, hands and legs (see pics). We brought it to the attendant of the hotel manager, he didn't want to believe us, but when we showed him the culprits hiding under the mattress and in the bedding he folded. The manager told us to abandon the room, we took our (most likely) not infested essentials (toothbrush, toothpaste) and went to a temporary other hotel room while our original room was fumigated. PJ's and some other clothing went directly to garbage, no attempt to rescue. The superstore Woodman's next door was helpful - 24/7- to get what we needed during the time our property was exterminated, fumigated, disinfected. It is quite difficult to maintain a professional life and having to deal with a bed bug situation. In addition, the door keys frequently didn't work as they locked us out several times. Although we had 2 rooms and that might have generated some door card confusion (1 with bed bugs, 2nd room it seems without bed bugs). We decided to toss a lot of our clothing and the luggage as it was near the bed. Needless to say, we left the place once our belongings were fumigated, we didn't want to take any risk of taking our clothes and other stuff prior to fumigation to the car and to a real hotel. I would love to say that these were the only issues we encountered... However, that is not the case! Bathroom: in the 2nd (not infested) room we used for a few days the bathtub didn't drain, it took a long time for the water to flow out of the soaking tub. Phone: in the 2nd (not infested) room the phone didn't work, we used our cells to call the front desk. Kitchen area: I didn't dare to touch the electric stove top, and once I opened the microwave, I took a pic and never looked at it again. It is fair to say we didn't use the culinary kitchen space. Smoking! Smokers huddle up in front of the main entrance and turn the area at the entrance into a 2nd hand smoke inhalation spa. It is just disgusting to sniff the entrance from across the parking lot, you follow the smell and will find it, blind-folded! Now there is some good news, if you need the nicotine and don't wan to pay the tobacco tax, just stand outside the hotel entrance, it's free!! The hotel staff is ok, but, ... bed bugs!! And for a few dollars more we could have gone right away to a Hilton or Hyatt. It is absolutely horrible, and I was at risk of secondary infections. There is a chance that the bites get infected on top of the original bite wounds. Stand as of August 6th: the hotel didn't want to compensate us entirely. The initial payment is not reimbursed. The 2nd payment was credited back to us, but the dog fees are still outstanding. We are in contact with the claims person from the insurance to get compensated, but it will be long way to a check.

What really stood out was when I asked a simple question about how long it takes to get the deposit back on a credit card. One of the front desk employees jumped in and said it depends on the card, usually 7-14 days--but then specifically mentioned that if it's a Cash App card, it would "definitely" take 14 days. The way it was said felt very assumptive and unprofessional. I work in sales/finance, so that comment didn't sit right with me. When I clarified that we were using Navy Federal, his tone immediately changed and became much more respectful. That shift alone was very telling. As for the room itself, it did not meet expectations for a hotel that presents itself as high-end. * All four cups in the room were dirty with visible residue and streaks * The bedding had multiple stains, some immediately visible and others noticeable under lighting * The couch had strange stains on it as well * When we pulled out the sofa bed, there was someone else's old medicine wrapper underneath, which made it very clear the room was not properly cleaned * One of the lamps was broken * The sink/faucet had heavy buildup and grime that looked unsanitary (as shown in the photos) The level of cleanliness was honestly unacceptable. I didn't complain during the stay since it was only one night, but it's something future guests should be aware of. The only positives were how quick check-in was and how easy it was to book (we booked through Airbnb, which may also have contributed to how we were perceived). Overall, if you're staying here: * Don't expect equal treatment based on appearance * Check EVERYTHING in your room before using it Definitely not the experience I expected from a place that markets itself as high-end.
