Had a great service here on July 4th! I stayed here before and it wasn't too bad, but I had to update my review. Food options are very limited, especially because of the holiday, but there were plenty of restaurants around that were great! Staff was very nice to us and we had a great stay. Rooms were very clean even though they told us there isn't room service (because of Covid and lack of staff) but our room was very clean. The AC was up to date and worked perfectly. Updated place with updated technology and working TV/wifi and everything you'd like in a good room. I only paid about $107 per night, so this is a little gem outside Chicago (thank god) I recommend this place if you're trying to get away from the city or trying to get a room near the city (only about 35 minutes away from the city) and it's also isolated and quiet. 3/5 stars. The location was the best part as it was central and close to all of our business meetings some were only like 3 miles way. As many pointed out the hotel is very dated and most of it is run down and beat up. The pool is rather small and even bit hard to even find, which is weird because why have a small pool thats not that easy to find in the first place? The surrounding area is like a forest and a nature preserve looking pond. People in our group saw all kinds of random forest animals when they went back there. Everyone at the front desk were nice and professional and genuinely sincere in helping me and my groups issues get resolved, except for the front desk manager. I forgot her name she is a Latina women with glasses. She was not as friendly and kind as the rest of her front desk team. She was by far the worst one working at the front desk by far. You had to wonder how the hell is she even the front desk manager??? She basically had me repeat all of the long list of issues that we had that the other front desk team members already were in the process of resolving for me causing me further nuisance. She basically did not believe what my story was for some reason and wanted me to prove to her that I was not lying. Like WTF? I was in town for business meetings why would I make up a BS story to try to bother the front desk in the first place? As a Gold HH you get like $18 a day credit so you can use that for food/beverage or the small convenience store behind the front desk. Most of the people in my group used the $18 on waters, oj bottles, chips, gum etc. So the $18 a day credit was pretty cool until like day 3 they ran out of stuff and did not restock anything until our trip was over. I saw others complain about cars getting broken into and car parts getting stolen in the parking lot, I fortunately did not have this problem or felt any concern/danger for that and the parking lot areas, but a few of the days some teenagers came over to hang out at the hotel and tried to swim and hang out in the lobby and other areas of the hotel. I'm not sure if they were actual hotel guests or just some teenagers trying to use the hotel as a hang out spot or what was going on? It would have been nice if security kicked those teenagers out for being loud and a nuisance but it seemed like there was no security really working at all from what I saw? Just a janitor/grounds keeper looking people who were gone once their shifts ended. The coolest part of my stay was probably my room as it had a larger deep soaking jacuzzi tub in it and the jets actually worked rather well like a real jacuzzi. I think had my room not have that I'd probably give this place only 1 or 2 stars then. I would not stay here again unless it was like a really good reason to like our meetings were actually happening in their banquet rooms or something. read more

Stayed here for the first time for 2 nights while on a business trip. Arrived at night and it's off a 2 lane road in a wooded area. I had to double check that I was at the right address because when I arrived it was dark and the hotel was somewhat secluded. I have family that lives in Chicago that we had dinner in the hotel dining room and it was a little eerie because we were the only ones there. I had French Onion soup that was really good but we could not help but to continually note that there was a lack of people around. This is definitely an older Hilton property and does not look like it has seen any renovations in the last 15-20 years. Not that it looked bad but it definitely did not give the "modern hotel" vibe. The phone in the room was very old and the same model phone that was on my desk when I started my first job pre-2000. The room was spacious, clean and had a very comfortable bed. The staff was very friendly. Overall if you are looking for the modern Hilton experience, this ain't it. If you are looking for a decent place to stay this will do. read more

!!DO NOT RISK IT!! NOT SAFE! DO NOT STAY AT THE HOTEL!! I stayed one night at the hotel after a company holiday party that was held in their banquet hall. Because our company had a party there, I received a great rate and thought it would be a good idea to stay so that I didn't drink and drive, and spend some time with my boyfriend and relax. Overnight, probably between 1-5 AM my catalytic converter was cut out of my vehicle. First red flag-- they had signs on all the parking spots saying they are NOT responsible for lost or stolen items, so I specifically parked RIGHT in front of the main lobby doors. And it still did me no good, despite cameras and all, they didn't catch them. Do NOT be fooled by the fact that the address is in Northbrook, IL. Just because other areas are wealthy, this specific area is NOT safe. The police told me that they have a group of people doing this often in the area that they cannot catch them. Between fake license plates, and the last two times they tried arresting them, the criminals were shooting at them and trying to run them over, they can't stop them. So if the police aren't stopping them, who will? My $99 hotel night turned into a $1500 hotel night. Do not risk staying at this hotel. On top of the financial stress, I am dealing with the emotional and mental stress of trying to get an auto shop to fix all the damage they did. Single parent of two kids, and this is NOT what I needed. The hotel is WELL AWARE that this happens, the front desk lady even knew that "in the past they could check the cameras across the street" and I wish I had read other reviews that stated it had happened to them. They should be held accountable for not having a safe environment for their guests and not increase security at night. Not only that, but parking is NOT free -- so whomever wrote that in the review was mistaken. They charge each car per night. This hotel should be shut down. So please listen, do yourself a favor, and do not stay here. read more

I had an overall pleasant stay here. The digital key to my room didn't work, as usual with Hilton properties. So went to lobby where a long que of people were waiting to check in with only one front desk staff. Took over 20 minutes to check in which I felt was long. Surprised not another staff member was present on a weekday mid afternoon when it is usually the busiest. Was upgraded to a king room with jacuzzi. The jacuzzi is just a standard bathtub with jets, but they were surprisingly powerful. Only down side to this room was the huge corner window which was difficult to block all light out and keep cool. I like my hotel rooms pitch black. Also the room and throughout the hotel felt a bit warm Ordered the Texas Burger and fried calamari from their restaurant. Both tasted good and the burger came with sweet potato fries at no additional charge which was a plus! The Indoor pool was relaxing but the hot tub and dry sauna in the pool area are closed for maintenance. They also have a large covered parking ramp in the back of the hotel which was super nice. I called the next morning to talk to management and was told the General Manager, Frank Chen, would return my call. As a diamond member for the past five years, I have never had such a bad experience. Checked in on a Friday it was my mother's 80th birthday party that evening. Got to my room which was a bit dated and dusty, but that's OK. Immediately ran down to the restaurant as I had not eaten all day and ordered a hamburger and tater tots from the bartender. I was in quite a rush to get ready for the evenings event and proceeded to eat my food quickly. When I first went into the hamburger, it tasted a bit off, but I figured maybe it had something to do with the cheese. However, by the time I had had a few more bites I realized that the meat inside the hamburger was not properly prepared and smelled very funny. At that time, I decided to try my tater tots. The moment I put the tater tot in my mouth, I could tell something was wrong. The tater tots tasted like old fish and smelled absolutely horrific. I immediately told the bartender what the situation was and he did not care at all. Basically telling me he'd never heard anything like that before and never even offered to replace my food. I signed the check and proceeded back to my room however, on the way, I did stop at the front desk invoice a concern. A few hours later, I became violently ill. This situation lasted for a few hours and because of it I missed my mother's 80th birthday party. Fast-forward to the next day I called down to see if I could extend my visit due to the fact that I still felt very weak and extremely nauseous. The job I spoke to you on the phone told me that he felt horrible with what it happened and would talk to a manager about compensating the next night for free. I thought that was very nice of him And he told me that I would be receiving a phone call from the manager who would arrive at 2 PM. As the day went on, I continue to get very serious cramping in my stomach. At that point, I decided to go see a physician who is a family member. The physician told me most likely as I expected. I had food poisoning. I came back to the hotel, never receiving any phone call from the manager. When I came up to the front desk, I identified the nice individual who I initially spoken to. At that time, he told me that I would need to speak to his manager. The manager approached me and she was extremely rude! She implied that I did not have food poisoning that I made everything up and that there was no way "anybody would get sick from her food". I told her that I had just come from seeing a doctor because of the bad cramping in my stomach and we had determined that that was the cause. She then proceeded to raise her voice and tell me she wanted to see medical paperwork from my doctor. She accused me of being cheap, not wanting to pay for the hotel room and was extremely rude in front of multiple other guests. I explained to her the situation and told her that I felt that she could do something for me, so I did not have to check into another hotel that evening. She basically told me at that point that I could pay the full rate that they had not reserved my room as they had told me and that if I didn't like it I should leave. Never in all the years have I experience an interaction with anybody calling themselves a manager like I did with this individual. In my opinion, she should be immediately terminated, and the hotel itself needs to hold several classes on customer service. The only bright spot that I have had is I called into corporate file a formal complaint Regarding the so-called manager, and they were empathetic to the situation. The longer the short is, this is an old rundown Hilton property with subpar staff who seem to be fresh off the street with absolutely no training. And take it for me. The bar in the restaurant is so rundown and employees individuals that don't care. It's really a shame. They told me they sent maintenance in and found nothing. Not actual pest control. So they have bed bugs crawling around but can't find them. I was at this Hilton recently for a conference and the friendly and helpful staff make this a great location. While I was not an overnight guest and can't review the accommodations, the meeting rooms, hotel, Algauer's restaurant are really nice. And the hospitality suite we were in was very clean zbd spacious. There's plenty of parking at this location in the lot or garage too and shuttle services. The hotel itself is a little dated and meeting rooms are very cold in the summer from the air condition (bring a sweater, jacket or layers)! But again, because the staff is so great, they help with anything you need. Vince Gabuntan at the Concierge desk was wonderful and I enjoyed meeting him and Mr. Payawal who were greeting guests and caring for many things at one time. I hosted a confernce there. We paid for the whole package of food, IT, 4 rooms. The food was low quality and despite ordering buffet, we constantly had to ask for more food. They served literally ego waffles and sausage for breakfast. Then they served the same lunch for 4 days straight- wraps and flatbreads. I didn't realize the quality and variety would be so low, I would have chosen elsewhere The set up and rooms where fine and had everything we needed. Location was convenient for us. Great looking hotel and nice rooms. Would have given them 4 stars but dealing with the rude lady at the front desk is the reason for the 3 star rating. I'll start with the pros. Very large hotel, nice and clean, with great amenities including an indoor pool with sauna and jacuzzi. Great modern decor and spacious rooms. Cons: Rude front desk. I stayed there for 2 nights at the hotel as me and a group were there for a wedding. We ordered breakfast to be taken up to our rooms for all the bridesmaids and the room service was terrible. Took them nearly 2 hours to get our breakfast to our suite. And when I called the front desk, the lady did not answer until at least the 20th ring! Seriously?! Then when she did answer, she sounded like she was rushing to get off the phone with me and kept being short with her answers. If she didn't hang the phone up on me I would have told her that our room phone was not working. That would have saved another phone call to the front desk to check up on our food again, for the 2nd time as it turned out the room service people were trying to get ahold of us on a broken phone. That delayed our food even longer. Secondly - we were supposed to have free breakfast vouchers with our rooms. We were given incorrect info upon check in. When I approached the front desk to confirm what exactly the deal was with the free breakfast, again, ATTITUDE from this same lady. Instead of telling me that the person who gave us the info originally was new and didn't know what he was doing, how about you apologize and make the situation better. Thirdly - I was waiting in line behind this elderly woman who was trying to reserve a room for a wedding she was attending in 2018. The rude front desk lady strikes again! She tells the customer to stand back at the end of the line as what she was requesting was too time consuming and she would have to wait all over again. How rude. Fourthly - I called to ask for an hour extension on check out and was told NO, that there was no way. And of course I recognized the lady's voice on the other line. But how come when my Husband calls the front desk 30 min later, gets a different lady, she tells him no problem and grants him a later checkout. It seems like the hotel needs to hire a better person to manage the front desk and get rid of the WICKED WITCH of Hilton. They can call me when she's gone as I wouldn't stay here again unless I had to. read more

So if I could give this place 0 stars I would the rooms are outdated the toilet runs for about15 minutes before it stops making noise the shower pressure is very low and the handle was loose had a hard time getting it to stop running. They don't even offer coffee you have to get it from the restaurant It's breakfast now they have a buffet but the waiter comes to you to bring coffee and silver ware I guess I have been here for 30 minutes and no one has came to my table I have watched them come to everyone except me I have eggs on my plate I can't eat because they have the knives and forks I only have a spoon because they were next to the yogurt. by the time I got into my room, I had had an exhausting day and just wanted to relax and go to bed. Front desk was friendly and check-in was quick. The hotel main area was OK. But the temperature was warm. I don't know if they had an issue that day or what. my room I had was a corner room. Very strange set up. But spacious. Unfortunately everything is very dated. Plus the room really needed to be cleaned better. The wallpaper over the bed had dust balls throughout the entire wall. There were 5 ladybugs flying around and not sure from where. They have an HVAC heating/AC unit in the wall under the window that was blowing constantly and it was loud. So I ended up turning off during my entire stay. Thank goodness it was only March so it wasn't very much needed. The hotel doesn't have room service so you have to call the restaurant in the main lobby to order food to come pick it up. The restaurant itself was completely dead and the heat must've been on high because it was very warm. Staff was very friendly. Food was not good and not a very good selection. I ended up just getting a Caesar salad but it was just torn up iceberg lettuce with some cheese on it and the chicken that I paid extra for was pink and cold. The only reason why I stayed here is because it's five minutes away from the company hanger where I had to fly the next morning. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so there's not much around besides trees and river. So you can't walk anywhere you have to have a car. It definitely needs some upgrading in a major way. When our heater went out last night and a service technician was unable to make it until the morning, we were told to stay in a hotel overnight. As a Hilton Honor's member I naturally turned to the chain I trust when I travel. Fortunately, this Hilton is 3 minutes from our home and that was key as my dad needed to come home at 7am to let the technician in. I didn't come in expecting all that much as this hotel has been around for years but it was fine in meeting our needs. The parking lot for starters is a bit sketchy and I wouldn't be very comfortable walking in or out by myself in the dark. The hotel is interior to Milwaukee Avenue so there is no traffic otherwise passing by. This makes for a very quite grounds surrounding the hotel. The lobby is tastefully modern and we were promptly greeted. Our water bottles were not forgotten, they generally are at other Hilton prosperities, and we were offered two breakfast options out of courtesy in case we wanted to sleep in. The woman at reception was helpful and warm in her interaction with us. She offered an upgrade that we were unable to accept since we required double beds. We arrived to our rooms to find a separated bed and bathroom space that I appreciated. The bathroom contains the tub and toilet only with a large sink outside to be able to keep out of each other's hair. While outdated, the shower stream was perfect as was the water temperature. The room itself was also outdated but the beds were very comfortable and offered a very restful experience. Since it would be a while until our house was heated through, I messaged the front desk on the app which was promptly acknowledged and I was offered an extra hour. Should I have asked for more, I believe I would have received it. I wasn't able to use the amenities but there is a gym, pool, sauna and meeting rooms. I believe conventions and weddings are held at this hotel. It is also accompanied by a restaurant which I am also unable to comment on. Overall the Hilton met my needs. I think it could revamp itself considering it keeps busy but all in all it provides guests the Hilton experience they come to expect. read more

Indoor pool was somewhat small for a Hilton. Main issue was heating unit that rattled and was quite loud, called front desk about the issue to send someone up. No one came or called to follow.... I have been staying at this hotel for decades. I recently stayed here for my daughters wedding which was at the hotel as well. I have some health Issues so I needed some accommodations and the staff, engineer Miquel could not have been more accommodating! Christy is the best! The entire staff was also first class and they all seem to love there job and have compassion.My room was very clean and the king bed as always very comfortable. The restaurant is great and a cool sports bar right next door make it all very nice. The wedding was beautiful and the staff I'm sure helped make that happen. I'm not sure if this is an aquired property, but, this property seems to be a bit "off" compared to other Hiltons. Now, that being said, the rooms are nice, the staff is very Hilton friendly and it does have a Hilton feel, but more of a work in progress feel. Basic no frills hotel. Certainly not up to the standards of Hilton. Woman at check-in appeared to be annoyed with having to help us. We were the only ones checking in. No housekeeping service they said due to COVID so had to call and ask for coffee cups that weren't stocked and wash clothes and towels. Business center printer wasn't working. Internet was out one day. Lots of shuttle buses, but no service to the airport. Hotel was clean but probably because there weren't very many guests. If this hotel were to take human form, it would be one of those 80's revival tours. Beyond the more sober wardrobe and makeup, you'll still hear the synthesizers and gated snares. The incremental remodel continues, but the improvements seem to me cosmetic. The lobbies and some floors and hallways are now decorated with circle motifs. The design decisions are weird enough to notice, juxtaposing cool cherry-red upholstery and nickel fixtures with goldenrod curtains and old-school saloon doors. In the lobby, signs exhort guests to "Pardon Our Dust." The weekend I stayed (June 2018), the fourth floor was closed to reservations, and a pile of baseboards greeted guests at the tenth-floor elevator. These changes and improvements are, again, only cosmetic. This was my first stay here, so I've been in only one room (1027), but it appears similar in layout to the rooms in the other reviews' photos. In terms of size, rooms on all floors appear to be comparable on the hotel map; I appreciate the egalitarianism. That layout, though: the toilet/shower room leaves room for little else, and the in-between room containing the vanity, the coffee/fridge setup, and closet is absolutely baffling. The wall doesn't rise to the ceiling, and the closet doors are the aforeridiculed swinging saloon doors--which are new! Where did they even find these? And yet there's nowhere to hang a towel. Service is indifferent, not befitting a full-service Hilton: * I had to request at the front desk my two complimentary waters and breakfast tickets, which as the clerk acknowledged should have been waiting in my room. * The vacuum could have been applied more attentively. The outlets and clock on the nightstands lay under old dust, and the otherwise comfortable armchair appeared to be covered in cat hair that may also have been fine feathers, e.g. from a poofy coat. As for the vanity, was it mold or mildew in the faucet handles? The streaky drain shouldn't have been. * Unannounced, the hotel shuttle was out of service when the driver was given the day off. No big deal, but when I finally did have a chance to use his services, he muttered at length about how I had already checked out and was no longer entitled to use the shuttle, though the front desk put me in his queue. Besides, it was only 10 AM, two hours before checkout, even without late checkout privileges. * The executive lounge is still mislabeled on the hotel map and in the guide to services. * Allgauer's, the hotel restaurant in which the breakfast buffet is served, smells like a cafeteria. That je ne sais quoi of disinfectant, oil, and staleness hanging in the air will bring you right back to back in the day. You can't hear them, but you just know the waiters are humming "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" as they neglect to refill your coffee. Perhaps an even apter metaphor for this hotel lies in the tissue dispensers. Unlike the tissues in the lobby restrooms, which people attending weddings or business meetings are more likely to encounter, the tissues in the room are conspicuously rough. I was so taken aback that I lifted the dispenser, to find not Kleenex, Puffs, or even Scotties, but an unmarked box. The "Hilton Chicago-Northbrook" is misleadingly named not just for its location, but because it's easy to find comparable service at a less upmarket brand. One just expects more from a Hilton. Indeed, as far as Hiltons go, I usually stay at the Embassy Suites Deerfield when I'm in town. But I don't mind this Hilton, because who doesn't love the 80s? read more

Traveling cross country, I stayed at this Hilton on business 2/2023. I thought I was getting an executive room but this one sucks. My electricity went out in the room several times. The water went back and forth from hot to cold. The faucets and furniture were old. Management and staff were unconcerned about my many complaints. I respect and admire the Hilton chain of hotels. We just finished staying at the Conrad downtown and it was awesome. However, our flight back home was cancelled due to horrible weather and we were left scrambling to find a hotel (all the ones near the airport started gauging you with unreasonable prices due to supply and demand as tons of flights were cancelled) so I went on the hilton honors app and found a reasonable priced hotel 20 minutes away. Should have paid better attention. These rooms really need to be updated and are designed back from 1980. No matter how hard you try to put a band aid on a superficial wound there is so much more needed in order to heal that wound. Well...thats what is needed here. They fool ya with the nice updated lobby. However, once you hit the elevator you and your nose can smell the mustiness of what awaits you! That's right folks, a damp, 1980 swamp cooler of a room with carpet and wall paper that any disco loving person would be excited for! Sweetie is the hotel guru, and always finds us good deals on cool places. This was a standout- in a quiet neighborhood, reasonably priced, and a bit fancy. Service was good. We never made it to the pool or restaurant. There's a little gift shop and snack area, and they had sales on souvenirs. The room was perfect: great bed, nice decor. Well, the bathroom was tiny- like, too small to stand in and close the door at the same time. But there's a big dressing area, with the fridge, etc., off to one side. She hung out here while I was gone for the day, and enjoyed the luxury. Didn't order room service, but the prices are almost reasonable. I would go back in a heartbeat. read more

If I could give this review a 0 I would. Poor customer service. I got attitude just for asking for two rolls of toilet paper when there was only one given from the first place. This hotel cannot handle service when they are at capacity/fully booked. I mean seriously not able to give towels because you don't have enough? How is this possible. If you do not have enough towels do not book/reserve that many rooms. They did not come up once to clean the rooms once throughout my 5-day visit. They did not clean the rooms because they were at max capacity. What kind of hotel is this? Also there elevator is broken. It takes an eternity just to get on and off. Mind you I was on the 10 floor and the elevator stops each floor when no one is even waiting for the elevator. Worst hotel experience I have ever had. Save your money and go somewhere with way better service and an elevator that works! read more

Perks including contracting COVID!

I booked this hotel for a wedding because it was part of the room block rate months before the actual event. I paid extra to have a king bed. Check in is at 3pm. We go to the front desk at 2:55pm and they check us in without issue. As we get to the door of our room, there are dirty empty wine glasses sitting outside, like the room hadn't been cleaned which was odd. Then, upon walking in, there was a huge red wine stain on the carpet near the mirror. Lastly, there were 2 Full Beds, not a King. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, I call down and explain that there must have been a mistake, we requested a king bed, they said to come down to the lobby to sort this out. I refused, because my fiance was carrying all of our stuff and their elevator was extremely slow so I told them to just call me back and let me know which room number we'd be moving to and we can exchange the keys there. He said not a problem. Several minutes went by that I finally went down there myself and a lady told me she was "just about me call my room" and tell me that there aren't any king beds available. When I asked her why not, she said there were a lot of early check ins and that there was nothing else they could do. So, long story short, they gave up my room to early check in people. Great. She also said my king bed was NEVER guaranteed - I've never heard that bullshit in my life. She offered a "free brunch" the next day (it was $42/person) but the wedding party was already offering a free brunch for guests staying at the hotel so that was a pointless discount. She didn't offer to discount our room or anything else so I stormed back upstairs, called another hotel, explained the saga, and they had a room with a king bed and free continental breakfast. They also gave us a steep discount and it was closer to the wedding venue. No dirty glasses outside my door or wine stains, either. I won't be coming back. read more

Our office is nearby in Northbrook. While we are WFH now due to COVID we frequently have vendors visiting. Many vendors choose to stay at this Hilton. I have personally used the hotel for family events although prefer other venues. When we are back in the office and a guest wants to stay at this Hilton I now feel obligated to mention that the hotel violated local, county and state rules by hosting a large wedding during COVID. I would simply suggest that if they ignore these rules how can we trust their food safety, fire safety and general security/best practices. There is a nice Embassy Suites/Hilton nearby our office in Deerfield along with many Marriott, Hyatt and other properties. read more
