WOW. I stopped by The Wheat Market on a whim driving by, without even checking Yelp, and am I glad I did. The market itself is small and unassuming, but my sandwich was fresh and delicious. I ordered a BLT with tuna salad and avocado on toasted wheatbread. I can be rather particular when it comes to tuna salad so I was more than thrilled at how great it was. The avocado, tomato, lettuce was all fresh. The bacon was nice and crispy as well. I also ordered a molasses cookie which was good. There aren't a lot of options but everything looked great. The shop filled up after I arrived which was a good sign to the popularity amongst the local community. The people working were more than friendly and willing to help me. Like the others said, this is a small unassuming casual eatery / goods shop with fresh delicious food and very friendly service! We ordered a roast beef sandwich and chicken cutlet sandwich along with a side of potato salad. They were all so fresh and yummy. The chicken was so tender and the roll so soft and fresh as well. I was in here to poke around to Pick up a few little things for stocking stuffers. Lots of old fashioned candy I thought I'd order a couple sandwiches to go seeing it was getting close to Dinner time . I'm so very glad I did! I got a Rueben with Pastrami on a hard roll and a Black Forest Ham with lettuce and tomato, cheese on a hard roll. Best sandwiches we had in a long time. The service there was OUTSTANDING. I have used the Wheat Market for delivery to my sister who lives in the area. She has enjoyed everything I have sent her. They do not take Credit Cards but tell you to pay by check, I was floored! Nobody does this. They brought the items to my sister and I sent out the check. I asked if they have ever had any problems with this. Answer was, "No", if you don't pay, they will go to the person who received the food and collect from them! (How embarrassing would that be!) One day I will even get to eat there! I love this place. After my sense of taste returned following chemotherapy treatment, I was craving an Italian sandwich and stopped in. It was absolutely delicious. I've been in again recently and had a very positive experience. The ladies behind the counter are so lovely and sweet. I witnessed a very kind interaction with the customer ahead of me in line, it was refreshing and reassuring to see people treated with dignity and charity in a world where this is becoming more and more rare. They were very busy, everyone including myself were relaxed and happy to wait because their food is delicious solid comfort food and the service is personable and courteous. There were several delicious sounding soup selections such as polish kale, and lunch specials such as meatloaf and mashed potatoes along with many delicious sounding sandwiches including pate de champagne. They also offer classic candies and various other nice pantry foods, I picked up a bag of cherry filled gingerbread cookies that have been made in Germany since 1615!! They do not take credit cards, which I view as a positive thing in a world of debt slaves. I will be going out of my way to frequent this gem. read more

Don't let the name fool you. This mom & pop shop is a small deli that serves lunch and breakfast. Contrary to what the name implies they don't sell bushels of wheat. In a way this place seems befitting of the town of Chester and and in a way it doesn't. What I mean is the interior looks old, rustic, and very cluttered...almost like it's been around for a million years. It seems very well at home in Chester. Yet at the same time it doesn't seem to cater to the whole frou-frou New Yorker crowd and their art galleries that have descended on the town in the last couple decades. What I mean is the whole operation isn't very polished. You won't find sandwiches with fancy names, you won't find an expresso machine, and you won't find any ciabatta or baguette breads. Heck, for potato chips they sell Utz potato chips. Oh the horror, right? It just looks like an ordinary deli place that you might find in any other town, but it just happens to be in Chester, tucked behind a handful of trendy shops and galleries. Food & prices are OK. Order a sandwich and either eat inside or get it to go. I recommend getting your food to go because the inside is slightly stuffy and quite a mess (although there are a few tables/chairs). Unfortuately the Wheat Market doesn't have any outdoor tables and chairs so you'll have to find a sidewalk bench or stone wall to sit on. They do have plenty of parking though! If people watching is more of your thing then I recommend skipping the Whaet Market and instead going to Simon's Marketplace. It's more of a trendy joint and it's located right around the corner on Main Street. read more

From deli items to baking, everything I have tried has been excellent. The deep dish pizza is exceptional and unparalleled but order in advance as they take awhile to make. A must try and make sure you're hungry as they are 12+ lbs a pie. The service is consistently friendly and helpful. They go the extra mile everytime I have been in. We were anxious about what dinner would be like the first evening--and it was delicious! Meat and veggies well prepared; salads fresh and varied!! Disappointing, somewhat disheveled deli tucked behind the main drag in Chester. Service was friendly but the layout is not conducive to a great experience. The place is somewhat chaotically put together, not in a fun eclectic sort of way, but rather in a frustrating, hard to figure how to queue sort of way. Joan, the chef and their son we wonderful to work with. The arrangement added greatly to our pleasurable stay. I have been going to this Delicatessen for quite a few years, so long I can't even put a number on it! I went over the weekend with my wife. We got there ahead of a small rush and if you are familiar with the place you order over the top of the soups lol and they ask if for there or to go. We said it was for there and were nicely directed to go find a drink and a seat and they would be right with us. Perfect! :/ So in came I would guess around 15 people or so and some were take out and others for the tables. Watched many get served and our food was Mia Beautiful Saturday I can find better things to do but wait there. So we asked and we were told they (sandwiches) were sitting there to the side and thought to be for take out and would bring it right over. Ok no problem. We had our sandwiches and the guy apologized that brought them over, thank you no problem. One complaint I have had all these years is the rolls, they always seem stale and dried out, I'm afraid to know how old or why so dry. The sandwich itself was fine if it only could be fresher rolls or bread. So here's the ticker, the lady that helped us and took our order comes over with an oatmeal cookie, wow super nice thank you but not necessary, she insisted. So we go to pay as we are leaving and the owner that has a bit of a chip on his shoulder is checking us out and asked what we had so we told and then comes the bullshit.... A cookie???? Umm yea the lady brought it over and she interjects and says nicely that she gave it to us and it was on her. (Let's get clear the years and dollars and referrals I have sent this place) the pompous man turns around and says to her free????? Meantime I'm offering to pay for the shitbox cookie. She said it again and said yes for free and his answer? Wellllll THAT WASNT OUR FAULT!!!! Are you kidding me?? Luckily for you o wasn't ready to let it rip and give you an earful that it was an accident and we overlooked it and didn't bitch but your total lack of class was disgusting and I won't be spending another dollar at your estsblishment.
