Stopped by for lunch and had such a great meal. The drinks were also delicious and service was quick and accommodating to having a baby with us. We had the burrata with chili oil and blood orange to start 10/10 and duck Benedict which was delicious . Super cute bistro with ample indoor/outdoor space Tequila mockingbird & soju drinks

Parking: none, street but if that is full there is a cemetery and post office 1/2 block away. The street is so cute, something out of old world charm or a movie Decor: very unique, almost posh but something else, let's say upscale cozy Staff: dialed in and friendly, great with recommendations and there for you if you need something, I missed my servers name but the receipt says Yuliya. She was nothing short of perfection s as nd working the entire front by herself!! Food: everything was tasty, a little more kick in spice in every dish even the vodka rigatoni had an after bite. I didn't take away a star, but I personally look forward to the after taste of the food rather than a kick. Price: about average with the amount of apps and food we got with wine too! Overall: I would go back but once you see the street, I want to try them all!!

Outstanding service, charming ambience, and excellent food combined to make our experience here truly memorable our server Taylor went above and beyond in making our choices for our food and beverages informed and seamless. The cocktails were outstanding, and the food was exquisite. Will definitely come back to enjoy their excellent happy hour menu available Fridays through Sunday beginning at two and weekdays beginning at 4:30.

Stopped in for an early dinner and were greeted as soon as we walked in. This is a small restaurant with a combination of seating, booths and individual seats/tables. There also appears to be extra seating at the back of the restaurant. The menu is small but has plenty of selections, both small and large bites as they call them. Our server, who was very friendly and pleasant as well as the other staff, took our drink orders and let us know what the fish was for the evening. We decided to order the sourdough bread, French onion soup, and two burgers with fries. This is a very relaxed atmosphere, a little in the dark side, and the seating was very tight between tables given the size of the restaurant but we adjusted the table and made it work. The bread arrived hot from the oven with their house butter which I couldn't quite figure out was in it. Almost seemed sweet as if it was a maple syrup base but can't say for sure. The bread was incredible and didn't last long. The French onion soup arrived in a large bowl with a number of crispy croutons and plenty of onions. The soup was very tasty with a little bit of a bit to it. The croutons were a very nice touch as they stayed crispy ti the soup was gone. The burgers arrived hot off the grill with large baskets of very crispy French fries. The burgers were large, cooked medium as requested, with nice slices of Grafton maple smoked cheese, bacon jam. Lettuce, and Dijon mustard. The burgers are very thick and the roll is soft and grilled nicely. The fries, which were right out of the flyer, stayed crispy through the whole meal. There are a couple of steps up into the restaurant so if you have mobility issues it might be a little bit of a challenge. All in all a great little restaurant with incredible food and great service. The next time we're in the area there may be a return trip.

WOW! This may be my favorite dining experience of 2024. Such an incredible meal, friendly staff and a dog friendly outdoor patio, right on Main Street in Chester. We have been meaning to visit for quite some time and getting a gift card over the holidays was the perfect push we needed. We ordered a little bit of everything as we had a party of 3 and wanted to share! The Sourdough Boule was the perfect starter and arrived at our table piping hot! The house butter was perfect and seems like it rotates based on the day/time of year. Our favorite appetizer had to be the Crispy Bao Buns - they were perfectly crispy and paired with a tasty buttermilk dressing. However, the French Onion Soup was my personal star of the show. I think it was the best French Onion Soup I've had to date, and I loved that it was served in a more shallow bowl for optimal cheese coverage. The Ricotta Gnocchi was a perfect entree and great for sharing. The Village Burger was also delicious and a little more affordable too. My mom couldn't stop talking about the Roasted Carrots as well. 10/10 dining experience and definitely a good spot to bring someone you want to impress. There wasnt anything we tried that we didn't like. I loved all the mismatched tableware and "tea party" vibe. Such a cute place and great first visit. We can't wait to come back!

Adorable little date spot with copper-tin tabletops and dripping candles and a pretty good French onion soup and tuna nacho bites. The food itself isn't anything to rave about but the place itself is romantic and dramatic and adorable.

Such a beautiful spot. Wonderful setting exudes comfort. Drinks were made to perfection. I had one of the the best French onion soups I have ever had! Amazing place.

Cute place, cute town. Perfect fall day for a ride / visit. We went for brunch, started with the boule and flavored butter. Perfectly crisp and crunchy outside, soft inside. Then had the onion soup. Good thyme flavor. Wish the onions had been caramelized longer, and wish the broth was more flavorful. And it was ok. We tried the biscuits and gravy and duck eggs Benedict. Both were ok. The biscuit was hard almost like a biscotti not what we expected. I would say have the libations and enjoy. We will come back around the Dec holidays.

Overall it was okay. Definitely could have been our fault for eating outside (we had a dog). The ambiance inside looked very cute. We got a few small plates/apps. The French onion soup was a little watery and not that flavorful. The fried rice was good. Definitely recommend the sourdough with their house made butter (it was cinnamon something) and their ricotta. For the main I split lobster ravioli and a beyond burger with a friend. Ravioli was good - burger was okay. They have mocktails which is nice when you're pregnant or not drinking. Friends seemed to enjoy their wine. The service outside was fine.

Possibly the best Onion Soup I've ever had, and I've had many! No need to go to France anymore!

Wow... with Onion Soup like this, I can take a visit to France off the bucket list. I'm an absolute Onion Soup snob, and this may be my favorite EVER. I would have paid $25 for that. My wife liked her omelet... and I liked the Duck Benedict, which was interesting... though I wasn't crazy about the sauce.. Not sure if it was actually Hollandaise Sauce as you would usually find on a Benedict, but it was very thin and bubbly. It actually looked like yellow spittle. But I'll tell you what... that doesn't change my 5 star feeling for the place. The service was great, the place is adorable, quaint, and even the bathrooms are worth visiting!

    Burger- fries were excellent.

Another fantastic meal at the Village Bistro tonight! We tried a few different things this time and they were all outstanding. The beet salad was delicious and refreshing! The shrimp on crisped rice was inventive and very tasty. And I was totally surprised by the steak frites- I was expecting a piece of steak (sirloin?) but instead was presented with what I believe was skirt steak perfectly cooked and covered in a light cream/peppercorn sauce. The meat was tender, flavorful- delicious! One of the best pieces of beef I've ever eaten. Keep up the great work, Village Bistro!

Contemporary wood paneled room with a window wall overlooking the river below. Expertly made martinis followed by watermelon beet and feta salad; and wild mushrooms with Parmesan bread crumbs, mint, fried rosemary and whipped ricotta. Both were very tasty expressions of the season. Our table raved over the tagliarini with a local beef, pork and veg ragu and a shellfish version with a spicy puttanesca. The menu changes regularly to highlight the best of the season and local producers. Sometimes it's nice to eat delicious food with no blasting music, at reasonable prices (app/salads: $12-16, most entrees high 20's to $36) just hanging with happy well fed adults enjoying conversation. It would have been 5 stars but for the forgetting of complimentary bread service until we asked for it during the entrees. The bread was mediocre and chewy. Our primary waitperson sort of disappeared for a bit. An evening special of soba noodles with julienne vegetables was really just a bowl of noodles with little evidence of any veggies. Regardless, I've recommended to about 10 people already today and I'll keep doing so!!

After a recent disappointing experience at RT with my son and father, I have to accept that the the initial positive experience may be the exception and not the rule. RT is located in Chester Center, which is a top CT town. Top tier location. The restaurant is cute, but cramped. After we were seated, a while passed before we saw our server. We were ready to order for 10 minutes and she still hadn't checked in with us. I told another employee that we wanted to see our server. She shook her head and we waited another 5 minutes. We finally were able to order. Then people who arrived after us, and ordered after us, received food first. Multiple tables. Through multiple service issues, there was no recognition from the employees about the issues. Our primary server asked how things were going when she first checked in with us. I told her the truth. And she didn't seem like she cared. She was apparently hoping that I would just say "good". The food was mixed. My son and I split a burger and an order of chilaquiles. The chilaquiles was good. The burger was medium rare rather than the medium we asked for. The burger was underseasoned. It may not have been seasoned at all. The bottom part of the bun was cut at a weird angle. As the juices flowed from the burger, it soaked the short side of the burger bun so that it was unusable. My Dad said his salad featuring peaches and nuts, barely had any peaches or nuts. I'm unlikely to eat at River Tavern again anytime soon. 2.5 Stars

They seated us right away! I love the vibes of the place, it's beautiful and inviting, but not pretentious. Our waitress was the best. She knew it was our anniversary and gave us a little bubbly to toast to. We also made it for happy hour (5 pm - 6 pm on weekdays, and 5 pm - 6 pm on weekends only at the bar)! All the small plates on the left side of the menu were half off! We immediately ordered drinks (the $10 happy hour cocktail - a blackberry bourbon smash for my husband, and a mocktail for me). We then ordered the shishito peppers, 2 of the pickled beet deviled eggs, and the roasted oysters with chili oil. They came out super fast, and it was delicious. The shishitos had that great char flavor along with a great dipping sauce. You can never go wrong with deviled eggs. Then we decided to order the fried oysters and the bread with corn butter. The fried oysters were the star of the small plates. Cooked so well. Freshly fried, you bite into it and it was juicy and delicious on the inside. Just so good. The bread and butter? Ugh, my dream butter and bread. Just so delicious. The butter was slightly sweet from the corn and had flakes of sea salt on tip, making it the perfect sweet and salty combo. We also got the salad (local produce!), and our waitress knew we were sharing ao she had the kitchen put it on 2 plates. Such a great touch. The salad was fantastic. After eating lobster rolls for a day, this was a much needed salad. It was refreshing, bright, and light! For our main entrees, we got the seared local squid and the strip steak. It was INCREDIBLE. Everything had so much flavor. The squid was cooked well, wasnt chewy. Just delicious. The crispy rice was the BEST THING I HAVE EVER EATEN. I wish we could order bowls of it. My husband finished it, couldn't get enough of it. The steak was fantastic as well. The potato with the bearnise sauce was so dreamy. The little onions on the steak, all the little touches were so well done. We knew we had to get dessert. We got a scoop of the black raspberry ice cream, a scoop of corn and blueberry swirl ice cream, and the lavender honey panna cotta. Guys. You 100% must get dessert. The corn blueberry ice cream was unreal. I dont know how you get all that flavor into ice cream. They dont skimp on the honey on the panna cotta. And it went so well with the more mild panna cotta. The black raspberry was a little icy because they froze whole blackberries in it, but at least you know they were trying to make sure you got blackberries in there. With happy hour, the bill wasn't too bad. This was hands down our favorite meal of our week long road trip. I can't wait to come back. I would 100% make a detour to eat here. Parking is pretty difficult around here. I would probably just Uber if I was coming here on a weekend. I need to come here for breakfast at some point.

I really didn't want to write this review, but potential patrons should know what they can expect…read morewhen working with the event staff at Shipwright's Daughter - if they plan to have a private dining experience and event there. My husband and I got married last December. We decided we would hold off on celebrating with our family and invite everyone out from California to join us for a weekend full of activities in Connecticut and a special dinner at Shipwright's Daughter during Memorial Day weekend. We contacted the restaurant's events team to work out high level details starting in late January - to book a private room and hold a date and time. From the get go, the communication we received from the event staff was dismal to say the least. Not only did the events manager misquote the estimate for the room reservation, she came back and asked for a much higher price (up charging by an additional 30% of the original minimum fee) two months after we confirmed and discussed the date. She then explained it was due to the holiday weekend. Our date had never changed from the moment we inquired, so we would have appreciated knowing this upfront. Over the course of several months (and an absurd number of emails and a few calls), we tried to solidify the menu and wine selection and made multiple attempts before hearing back from the team. It was about two weeks before the big event when we were able to confirm a menu. It was about four days before the event that we heard back from the beverage director, but by then, my husband and I had already decided we would bring our own wine bottles, not wanting to leave it to chance with this team. I won't go into further details about the frustration we felt regarding their system for communications (they use an internal system that doesn't make it easy for guests to know who is copied on emails and who sees what). That is something I hope they will work out. When the big day came, I walked into the room and noticed there were a number of chairs missing, so I counted the chairs. They had an incorrect number of chairs for adults and not enough high chairs for the toddlers. We had requested a specific number of these chairs (weeks prior and mentioned it multiple times in writing), and I thought it was safe to assume that this was a basic checklist item for events set up. I was dumbfounded in the moment. I couldn't help but wonder what else they were going to miss or mess up that evening. It was disappointing to have our family members wait while the staff scrambled to pull other chairs into the room. From the time it took to take everyone's order from the set menu, the time between courses being served, and the attentiveness for pouring water and wine - all of it was a miss. The level of hospitality that we expected from a restaurant so recognized for its incredible food and approach to sustainable sourcing was completely overshadowed by the lack of attention and care by its staff - since day one of planning this event. Even a few of our family members commented on this during the dinner. At the end of the day, we felt like an obligation rather than welcomed guests, and that is mainly why I'm leaving this review. We had been patrons of Shipwright's a couple of times prior to this event, which is why we chose this establishment - to represent the best that Connecticut has to offer, when it comes to a dining experience we could vouch for. We no longer feel that we can recommend this restaurant. If you care about hospitality, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

My wife, and the reason I am posting this, says the Seltzer is even better then our regular spot. If you knew my wife, you would probably fall out of your chair reading this. To not just be good, but better?

First off, when you find the menu online, there is many items that are not currently on the menu. I know they had some staffing issues recently and I'm sure that's why they are running a limited menu, but that should definitely be updated online so guests know that before they come. I also was really looking forward to trying some of their beer, only to find that the only surfridge product available was a seltzer. This was a huge disappointment. To go to a brewery and not be able to drink their beer is pretty ridiculous. Maybe a social media post on instagram to let people know you're not serving your own beer right now? Would have been pretty helpful. When I asked the bartender if that's all the beers available he said " we're going with a microbrewery approach right now". Not really a microbrewery approach if there's one house made beverage and it's not even a beer. That's just a restaurant at that point. The pizzas were good as always, just really long wait in between. We were sitting with two other friends who ordered separately but still at the same time as us, and in between all the pizzas there were super long wait times. One pizza, than 25 minutes later one for the other check, than a half hour later, the other one for them, and then a good amount of time later the last one for us. We didn't even really want it at that point. The whole flow of the way the food came out was just really weird. I'm a chef of almost 15 years in the industry, I'm in no way giving up on this place, as I really like it here. I just think there's some very questionable decisions on the way it's currently being ran. Thanks.
