My family and I enjoyed a delicious meal at The Anchor in Chester, CT. Very good selection of comfort food. We had the Cubano (perfection), the veggie burger (fresh and flavorful), and the pulled pork mac and cheese (enough for my teenage son to eat with leftovers). The French fries were hot, crispy, and perfectly salted. Service was very fast. We decided to get some cookies for dessert later. The selection was eclectic, and they were all so tempting that we got several of them. Each cookie was wonderful, and they were still fresh when we finished them the next day. The restaurant was spotless and the staff was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The Anchor also had games available for customers to play while in the restaurant, and doggie treats for the pups. I am actively reviewing it as I'm sitting here enjoying a delicious Monte Cristo with my wife! We're devouring it because it's so delicious! Here's a tip, get your own, don't do splitzies like we did. I also had a dirt bomb to start with my Americano. The two definitely complimented one another so when in doubt, just go for it. The owner threw it in on the house because we kept mulling it over. This place is cute & quaint & located right at the marina. The customer service was top tier and the in house baked goods are to die for! They are cash only but there is an option to pay through venmo. This is definitely a locals spot. What an amazing place! Off the beaten path, inside and outside seating, boats, and a view of the Gillette Castle! The food is the star, though! Simple food, elevated. We all had delicious sandwiches, and can't get over the quality and imaginative menu. In particular, the pulled pork was an absolute delight. Wonderful fresh squeezed juices rounded out our meal, and an amazing array of sweet treats, all baked on the premises. Can't wait to go back to try the breakfast! Absolute buns. Firstly you had to pay with Venmo and you have to use their internet cause there's no reception. Got a watermelon and tropical fruit punch drink which was nice. However 6 dollars each not bad. Then got a pulled pork Mac n cheese which was dead serious worst Mac n cheese I've ever gotten in my life no seasoning, watered down, straight cheeks. Wife got the ceased wrap and honestly a homeless man couldn't done better. Just I don't even know what was going on with the people who decided to rate this place so high and the owners who clearly didn't try the food when they posted it on their menu. Came here for the first time and was blown away. It is a super small, cute spot within the marina and the staff and owner could not be nicer. Everything on the menu looked amazing so we got a bunch of things to split and only regret not having bigger stomachs. Some of the favorites included the smash burger, grilled cheese, chili, and watermelon juice. We also split a bunch of the pastries and they were all absolutely incredible. Unfortunately due to insolation issues they're closed over the winter but this is definitely a spot I'm going to try to visit when I'm in town. read more

Loved it! Ate here on a Friday morning in mid-September. Sat at the picnic tables under the trees by the marina. Such a peaceful spot. Food was outstanding. Had the chili with a fried egg special. Came with corn muffins. All of it was so good. This place is like going to someone's home where the host loves to cook. Everything is made fresh to order. The baked goods are better than any local bakery in the area. Asked a guy on our impromptu ferry ride where to get a good sandwich and he said, "follow me!" That's how we met Richard and Mario, the charming (with just the right amount of salty humor) pair who own this joint. The fries were piping hot and perfectly salted, the caprese panini had just the right amount of pesto, and the toffee chocolate chip cookie? To die for. Great things do come in small packages! We happened across this small owner run restaurant during a ride along the river. Small, extremely clean and the aroma's coming from their kitchen greet you as you enter the parking lot. Now that's a great sign! The restaurant has 8 tables, well appointed space. The menu is surprisingly unique for such a small place and it is certainly packed with flavor. This was our fourth, yes 4th, time visiting the Anchor - that is how great the food is. I had the mushroom burger with wonderfully melted cheese on a fresh roll and the garlic French fries. One bite and I had to stop to catch my breath - it was just sooooo good. My companion had the cheese burger melt, he just looked at me after his bite and said WOW - how do they do this. In my line of work, less is more so one word exclamations make the point. The cookies and the muffins are one of a kind perfections. I am picky about cookies but these, especially the Lemon Blueberry and the Hermits were "out of the park." This was a delightful experience from start to finish; the food was exceptional, the staff was attentive, and the ambiance was perfect. I'm already looking forward to coming back again and again! Terribly disappointing. This place was recommended by a friend for their smash burgers, which we ordered, with fries. Upon tasting the fries we realized that there was SUGAR on them. Besides the fact that we found them inedible, I know of NO good reason why there should be sugar on French fries, so we asked for some with only salt on them, which they did, but the owner was very rude and made snide remarks about us, our taste, and our "demands". We don't need to be shamed for not appreciating fries with sugar, and we will certainly not go back. read more

WOW, what a GREAT place!! They make an egg sandwich that will knock your socks off, and they have fun while they make it. The place is super cozy and has a friendly vibe. My friend has a gluten allergy and they accommodated her, no problem. We often get our food to go, then find a good outdoorsy spot to have a breakfast picnic. The Anchor is just the best small town place to visit. The location is perfectly set in a marina with seating inside and outside by the river. Everything from the delicious baked goods to the tasty fresh made foods is amazing. And can I say some of the best ice coffee you can find. Richard and Mario are there to greet you with a smile and a friendly hello, even when they are swamped with customers, which I might add is often! The owner/chef/server is funny and sweet with a quick smile and good advice on what to order. Actually , I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. Found this hidden gem today and so glad I did. Best "real" hand cut fries! Chicken salad was very good. Large portions. I was at The Anchor over the weekend and it is amazing! I got the junior smash burger with apricot jam and brie. Who would have thought of that combination? Soooo delicious! The parmesan truffle fries were really good, so crispy and not overly salty. I finished with TWO desserts, the chocolate toffee chocolate chip, which was yummy and home made. I also got a brownie to go on the way out and ate it on the ride home, it might even have been my favorite brownie ever. Richard and Mario are so friendly and welcoming and they have a large family network there with them and all of them were sweet, too. As if all of that was not enough, the setting is so cool: on the water, in a marina, if you're a boatie like me, you will give that a thumbs up, too. I can't wait to get back there and try other menu items that appealed to me, I had a hard time picking what i wanted. All of their pastries are home made every morning and they all looked good. If my boat were there, I'd gain fifty pounds a summer eating them all. Go try this place, it's so cute (make sure you check out the art on the walls, it's vintage boating stuff and really adorable) and there is seating outside so you can watch the boat action. I've been told that next summer there will be dock access for boaters, don't miss out on that! read more
