So I took my mother here for dinner about a week ago. I was told this place was amazing. The atmosphere is good, you can order and take your food outside. Which is obviously nice. However, they are suffering from a severe food identity crisis. It's like they have 2 or 3 head chefs all competing for what's on the menu... is their food good...? For the price, no. I spent 34 dollars on a chicken special and my mom had tacos. The best part of the whole thing was the fried egg. The chicken was cooked well but it lacked any seasoning. My mom's tacos needed to be eaten with a fork and knife because they would fall apart the moment you scooped them up. Which means two things, they are making them to long ahead of time and freezing them, or they aren't resting long enough. The bean dip that came with the tacos was also very good but it came with a verde sauce on it, which was absolutely insane (not in a good way). So could this restaurant be amazing? Yes. If they changed their prices by half, I would go back then. But the food isn't as good as what they are asking. read more

I liked this place, the portions are huge, price right and I really liked some of the dishes. In fact everything I have had I loved, except the popular Drunken Noodles, but its only because they use the one and only spice I do not like (or at least I think they did) - fennel! I use to love the wheelhouse but I feel sense they've moved to Vib Hotel they've went down hill. We've ordered at the new location a handful of times and pretty much every time they forget something. It's super frustrating not getting what you ordered! Also when you chose the spice level of your food it's never consistent. :( read more

It's really good food, if you can put up with waiting in line behind everybody else who may or may not need a certain amount of time to look at the menu. So no table service, which is fine as long as you don't mind waiting on whoever else and then having to be your own waiter after that. read more

In Springfield for work and stopped by here dinner. Ordered the Drunken Noodles with vegetables and a Peanut Chicken burrito to share with another person, both level 4 spice. This is my favorite Restaurant in Springfield MO. The Mojo Chicken Burrito is the best burrito I have ever had! Now the Mojo Chicken Tacos are my favorite for now and they do offer great vegetarian dishes as well as gluten free. They will modify anything the way you like it! read more

Fabulous food truck fare! The owners were very gracious and friendly, talking my husband and me through the menu. They offer a mixture of Mexican and Thai foods. It was our first visit, and they gave us samples, and suggestions. We shared nachos with bulgogi beef on one side, and chicken with mojo and peanut sauce on the other(because we liked it all and couldn't decide!). We also split a "Mabel's Roll Up" which was created by their daughter, Mabel. That was a tortilla rolled up with rice and beans, grilled, and topped with peanut sauce. It was all delicious! We tried the hot sauce that they make themselves, their signature sauce. Warning, treat it with respect, it is HOT! It has a great flavor though, so I could enjoy it sparingly. You can order the food with a spiciness factor of 1-5 stars, the difference being how much of that sauce is added. Three stars was comfortably warm for me. We also took home an order of vegetable pad Thai for later, and it was simply delicious. I'll be craving that now for sure!! I definitely recommend this place, and will certainly be returning. Dining outside by the food truck was a fun experience. Supporting an innovative local couple instead of a fast food franchise was rewarding. Finding some new favorite foods was a win-win!! Always tasty and fresh food with large portions for the price. I'm a vegan and they are always very accommodating. The veggie burrito and veggie tacos are great. I love that they will adjust the heat to your liking. They are also really great about letting you make adjustments to your order. I only wish the cilantro didn't have stems but that's so minimal compared to the yummy food and friendly/fast service. Can't stop coming back here every time I'm in town. Thanks! read more

The Wheelhouse is truly something special. Their passion for food is obvious. Gluten free and vegan options are hard to come by, especially in a food truck. The carnitas tacos are to die for. I've been going to the Wheelhouse for a few years now and it's become probably my favorite restaurant in town. The food's always great, the prices are good, the proportions are very generous, and the folks who run it are always nice. I don't really ever customize my food, but I've been there with people who needed to make theirs lactose-free or vegetarian or whatever, and the people behind the counter were always very accommodating. My favorite dish here is the Sweet Meat burrito (with guac - theirs is delicious), but I sometimes get a Peanut Chicken burrito and those are top-notch, too, and the weekly specials are always worth trying - I've never been disappointed by one! read more

Driving home from the Missouri Scenic Riverways, we made a stop off in Springfield for this food truck experience. I love good food trucks and the Wheelhouse did not disappoint. The Peanut Chicken burrito was "Chipotle sized" and a good bargain at only $7.50. It contained a good ratio of beans to meat, along with a healthy amount of cheese and rice. It was a wonderful fusion of Mexi-Thai as I could taste the sweet nutty peanut sauce all throughout along with the creamy refried beans. My only regret was that I ordered it a 2/5 on the spicy scale and would definitely go to 3 or 4 next time. read more

The Wheelhouse has become my favorite food truck in Springfield over the past couple years, and in a booming food truck market, that's saying something. Calling the Mexican-Thai fusion food unique is an understatement at the least; I've never had anything that tasted similar to their awesome Peanut Chicken Burrito. But truly, you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't try the Pineapple Fried Rice (I prefer it with chicken). Heaven in a styrofoam box. One thing to prepare for is portion sizes. This is a great place to get lunch. The portions are very generous and the food always comes out hot and is top quality. My favorite dish is the beef drunken noodles. The spring rolls are also great but they aren't a regular menu item. This is one of the few places that when you ask for something spicy they actually make it the way you ask. Today I tried the beef pad thai but I wasn't impressed overall with this dish. The sauce was similar to what they put on the drunken noodles but it had a thicker texture and lacked the sweetness I usually associate with pad thai. If you usually find pad thai to be too sweet I suggest giving it a try. The sauce also had way too much lime flavor. I would rate the drunken noodles a 5/5 as well as the spring rolls. The pad thai I would rate a 3/5. One of the best things about eating here is their recipes are truly their own so each dish is unique and you wont find anything like them anywhere else. One of my favorite places in Springfield to eat! They have tons of vegan options (pretty much anything on the menu can be made vegan). The meat eaters I ate with seemed to love the chicken burritos with peanut sauce. My favorites are the veggie tacos and veggie burritos with peanut sauce. The pad Thai and pineapple fried rice are pretty good as well. The only thing I didn't like was the Drunken Noodles. Apparently I don't care for anise! It's a popular dish so you may like it. They didn't mess it up or anything, not everyone is going to like everything. Its still one of my favorite places to go. You can't go wrong with a burrito with peanut sauce. They are huge! It will last at least 3 meals for me! They have really good bean dip and cabbage slaw as well! read more

I tried the wheelhouse today and had the sweet meat burrito. It was huge, but bigger is not always better. I found it to be full of fillers like beans and rice, with very little meat. Most of the meat bits I could find we're chewy and some in edible . I paid a dollar extra for guacamole and got very little on my burrito. There was nothing fresh in it, no cilantro , no tomato, no lettuce. It was very heavy. I would have liked a smaller burrito with better quality ingredients. I bet it is a hit with the college kids, it's a lot of food for $8. But is has been a long time since I was in college, so I would go with quality over quantity. read more

I usually get the steak tacos here and love them! The steak has tons of flavor (their website says the steak is cooked with Korean beef bulgogi flavors), and the extra $1 for guacamole is totally worth it. You can choose the level of spiciness -- they ask if you want 1-5 stars but since I am a huge wuss with spicy food I ask for no spice. (The spice is simply an extra sauce they add to the tacos. I tried 1 star once but it was still too much for me.) The tacos also come with chips and your choice of "bean dip" (which as far as I can tell, is just refried beans, cheese, and a little green salsa) or cabbage salsa. Both are good but the cabbage salsa was a bit spicy for me. You also get a side of traditional red salsa which is very fresh and flavorful without being spicy at all. I've also tried the chicken peanut tacos and they were ok, a little bland with no spice. They also have weekly specials (usually some sort of Mexican or Asian dish) but I haven't tried any -- I just can't pass up the steak tacos! read more

Went there for lunch today with a buddy. I got the burrito with sweet meat, and he got a noodle dish, I think it was The Jimmy and he added steak. All the variety of food I saw people eating looked freaking amazing and the smell from truck gets the hunger buds going. Unfortunately, after a couple bites into my burrito, I noticed that it was 90% beans. I took a couple more bites hoping to hit some other ingredients, but just came across a little rice and a few specs of the sweet meat. There was also some cheese on it. It was 2 lb bean burrito essentially. If the meat and bean ratio were flipped, that thing would have rocked. My buddy's noodle dish was loaded with meat and was fantastic. Very fresh and vibrant with a good peanut sauce flavor. In the battle of who ordered the better meal, I got my butt kicked. I will go back and try other dishes as I think they make really good food, but unless I am needing to OD on beans, I'll stay away from the burrito.
