Great "food truck" in Springfield. Immobile and a little out of the way, it still is worth coming. Though I only had this once, the cheap options coupled with the large portions are convincing enough enough for me to try again. I had the sweet steak drunken noodles. $10 and enough for 2.5 meals for a normal person. Flavor was initially palatable but as the noodles became colder, the saltiness seemed to be more pronounced. I did not finish the entire portion because of the salt. The options here are unique and this place definitely has a place in ole Springy. read more

Fresh and flavorful. I ordered the mojo chicken burrito. It's was huge. I added guacamole for $1.50 more. First I wanted pineapple fried rice I had ordered that then change my mind the girl working the counter was very helpful and change my order did the math by hand to figure out the difference which I thought was pretty cool. Quite possibly the best restaurant in Springfield. No, I don't mean best food truck. I mean best restaurant. So much craft, care, and consideration goes into every dish. Ostensibly the food served here is Thai-Mexican fusion, but most Wheelhouse dishes transcend that designation. My standard order is Peanut Chicken Tacos with Guacamole, plus Bean Dip. The handmade tortillas are unlike any other tortillas I've ever had, soft and earthy. The chicken is almost always cooked at the perfect level: tender, juicy, and, if I'm not mistaken, shredded to order. The peanut sauce is the true magic, hearty and flavorful, ladled with the ideal volume, enough to fully cover the chicken but not so much as to make the tacos soggy. Cojita and cilantro are sprinkled on top to add a little tang and zest. I always have guacamole added, and, I have to be honest, I add a little salt to it, but I like my gauc quite salty. I have tried many items on the menu, but I always come back to the peanut chicken tacos. You really can't go wrong. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. I wish it would get an actual storefront so that I could do the News-leader's dine on our dime for it. Everything always tastes SO fresh and delicious. I think I've eaten everything on the menu and I love it ALL. My absolute favorite though is the drunken noodle with extra peanut sauce. I could bathe in the peanut sauce. This was my first visit to The Wheelhouse and I was impressed, to say the least! I had the Peanut Chicken burrito, lunch portion, and my better half had the Mojo Tacos. The portions were VERY generous (I could only eat about 1/3 of the burrito, but more on that in a bit,) and the food was fresh, flavorful, and hit the spot with unusual but excellently matched flavor combinations! Finding out that this was our first visit, the owner Zach made us an AMAZING appetizer that was a bean dip concoction the likes of I have never had! I could have easily made a meal out of this dip and chips, and, in actuality did, hence the previously mentioned 1/3 of my burrito being eaten. HIGHLY recommended! Everything's made fresh and there's a ton of healthy options so you can feel good about eating here, plus it's a local business to boot :) Their style is a Mexican Thai fusion and it's AMAZING. I'm a sucker for the Peanut Chicken but I've tried a few things now and have yet to be dissatisfied. It's very affordable and the portions are ridiculously big, you almost always get tasty leftovers. I'm confused as to why people are so into this. I've had wheelhouse three times and each time has been very underwhelming. I got the carnitas burrito this time, the meat was hard and had the texture of tuna. The rest of the food was under seasoned, I've had the nachos and the tacos as well. Both felt under seasoned and the corn tortillas fell apart instantly and held no structure. Why the low rating? I ordered the steak burrito with guacamole which came to over $10.00, it was a huge thing and I was looking forward to it but what I found inside was primarily beans and rice. The beans had a mysterious tang to them that made me wonder if they were starting to "turn". The steak was a few small pieces of meat that probably weren't cooked today, they were dark in color and dry, not like freshly cooked meat is. Guacamole? Went there for the first time, after hearing about how great the food is, especially the vegetarian options. Sadly, I was quite disappointed. We ordered a veggie burrito with guacamole, pineapple fried rice, and my little one got a cheese quesadilla with chips and salsa. We got it to go, so we could go home and enjoy dinner. Got home, and they didn't give us chips for the salsa, and the burrito had no guacamole. My husband really enjoyed his rice though. My burrito was not as enjoyable. The rice was cooked to mush, and the veggies had the texture of overcooked frozen mixed vegetables. Definitely not what I was expecting based on previous reviews.
