The building is from 1917 and you can feel it everywhere.... dark wood, stained glass, a ship model in a glass case, an old house telephone booth, a hand-painted figurehead hanging from the ceiling holding lanterns. It's not trying to be charming, it just is. The tri-tip sliders and pretzel bites were so good I forgot to take a picture before they were gone (especiallythe tri tip sliders). Happy hour pricing made the whole thing even better. Seriously, if you're anywhere near Santa Maria, make the drive. I'll definitely be back and I'm a little annoyed it took me this long to find it! I peeked in and it looked like a cool place. A few pool tables, jukebox, draft beer. Waited around for a few minutes and knocked on the door just to make sure no one was in.... nothing. After about ten minutes a guy who had been sitting in a truck nearby finally came up to open the place but by then I was already back on the bike and about to head out. If the management doesnt care enough to bother to open on time, I dont trust that they keep the draft lines clean or actually run a decent place. This sort of attitude tends to be endemic and pervades all other aspects of the bar. We have enough ghetto bars in Lompoc as is, so I'll just stick to my normal haunts I guess

The bartender was really on top of things, and I could tell he really knew what he was doing. I asked to taste a couple of the reds, and when he didn't have one downstairs, he poured me a taste of another Pinot Noir to sip while he ran upstairs to get the one I'd asked about. They serve many good wines, both very local and from other California regions. Some of the interesting local ones include a few varietals from the local Allan Hancock community college's viniculture program. The Allan Hancock ($9/glass) 2023 Pinot Noir was pretty impressive! Fruity and young. I also very much enjoyed the Kleemeier (also Santa Barbara County) 2024 Pinot Noir, which belied its young age in the best way ($12/ glass). This space has the bar and some soft seating, and around the corner is another seating area that looks like a wine cellar. Very cozy and cute. I will return.

The bar was getting sued and the waiver was now required. Seems like liability insurance might be the right approach. Telling me this story about how someone got beaten up(and thats kinda cool cause we didnt like him) and then trying to have me waive liability incase someone didn't like me too seems like a hard sell.

We have heard nothing but good things and they were all correct. We live within easy walking distance so we took a nice little walk. As we entered there was music playing on a record player which was great and the shop was set up nice and neat with a welcoming bar or tables to take a seat. We were instantly greeted by Mark and asked what brought us in today. We let him know we wanted to do a tasting and he let us know that his selection today was from Thatcher. There was a rose and a few red blends and a Syrah. All very tasty. Mark was educated and well informed in the blender and his styles and profiles as well as the offerings and gave us notes with each pour and answered any questions. Wine isn't all available there was beers on tap as well as some non-alcohol options. We ordered a small charcuterie plate which for the price at a small wine bar was good and above what I expected. We through conversations with Mark mentioned we wanted to have our ballroom dance instructor at Allure Ballroom to do a wine and dance social cause the businesses are so close and Mark said oh I could easily host it here and move some tables we've done events before. So... That being said stay tuned I have Marks card and will be talking to Yvette at Allure Ballroom to see if we can arrange a local ball room and wine social. The music played was great easy light classic rock and the clientele was friendly and good to converse with as we shared a few drinks and snacks. This will definitely be a normal outing for us and hopefully we can get a great local old Orcutt business co-op event going. If you haven't stopped in and seen Mark Steller who lives up to his name. Do it sooner than later. Great business and great wines and beer... Oh they even had a cider on tap.
