STEPH JUDGEMENT: Surprisingly spacious, with good food. The hubby and I decided to stop here for lunch on our way up to Sara Barbara. We'd considered several other places in the area but some pub grub sounded good. It was a Wednesday and it was pretty deserted when we walked in. We were surprised by how large the space was--the front area had a bar and several pool tables, and the back area had another bar, lots of seating, and a stage. It must get pretty lively in the evenings. As with most pubs there weren't a ton of vegetarian options on the menu, so we were surprised but intrigued to see a plant-based shepherds pie on the menu. We decided to share that and a cup of potato leek soup. Both items were great--we highly recommend! Our server was genial and the prices were ok. Came here for dinner since my man wanted a Guinness before heading home back to LA. It was pretty quiet when we got in since it was a Wednesday night but didn't mind. There was a fireplace towards the back and it was decorated for Halloween so it was nice and cozy ambiance wise. The bartender/server was really nice and attentive so that was good too. Unfortunately that wasn't enough to make up for how disappointed in the food I was. We shared the shepherds pie and fish and chips. The shepherds pie was just ok. Wasn't as flavorful as I would've liked. But the fish and chips was terrible. The batter was super thick and not light and crispy at all. It tasted like gummy and goopy batter. The fish was not super fresh and too thin compared to the batter. The fries were decent but what's the point if the main protein sucks? Sadly would not return here at least not for food. But I'm not a drinker so I'd prob only tag along to have a beverage. read more

This is my second time going to this restaurant and it's been excellent on both occasions. We ordered fish and chips and chicken pot pie and they were delicious. It wasn't crowded, and the ambiance is really nice. It feels like a proper pub and they played great music. The customer service was amazing. Your "security" John is an asshole. When we got to the front of the line, the security changed to John, who began by yelling at us and telling us to go to the side entrance instead. He then proceeded to let about 20 men in and be extremely rude to all of the women in line. He also walked out to the parking garage twice with two of his friends, who he proceeded to let in. Dargan's has become our go-to hangout while we're waiting to supercharge our Tesla in Santa Barbara. It's super convenient, just downstairs from the charging station and the vibe is always laid-back. We usually swing by right when they open, and it's nice and quiet. Perfect spot to grab a drink, share some appetizers, and even catch up on a bit of work if needed. Huge shoutout to our favorite bartender, Shane he's always so nice and accommodating, and really makes the place feel welcoming every time we stop by. Solid food, chill atmosphere, and great service. I went for a fun night because I saw good reviews but, this man named John (bald spot with a mohawk) was being really rude. His other coworker was super helpful. John continued to let in men and girls who dabbed him up, but everyone else seemed to be pointless to him and made since from his rudeness. Ridiculous behavior I will never be back. read more

We came early so it was quiet, and lighting in here is a bit dimmer, but definitely a rustic feel on the dining side. We got to sit right next to the fireplace, so that added to the rustic vibe!Pool tables and bar seating on the other side. Our server Patrick (according to our receipt!) was super friendly and helpful, and very accommodating, especially with my beef allergies. I ended up with their salmon dinner, while my husband got the turkey pot pie. That was HUGE!! Overall, our food tasted quite good, everything was fresh, and the mango salsa on the salmon was tasty! I also ordered a side of bangers, though technically, it was only 1 banger! That was very yummy! But as it was an Irish pub, I was hoping for more Irish options, but the menu was slightly limited, especially with my food allergies. Bartender with bangs and butterfly tattoo on her left arm has been rude to me and my friends countless of times. Raising her voice to an extent i have never experienced through customer service. I hope this is being handled considering no individual working in customer service should ever raise their voice to that level. Single handedly made my dargans experience awful. All i did was take an extra second to let her know if i was closing my tab or keeping it open and i experienced yelling that was louder than anything I've ever experienced. Not cool. read more

They created exactly the atmosphere we were hoping for to keep the celebration going, and our guests had such a blast. Growing up in Santa Barbara and being longtime Dargan's regulars, it was so special to share that place with all our family and friends. The energy was infectious, and it was the perfect way to end our wedding night. Having that space to continue celebrating with everyone who wanted to keep the party going was exactly what we dreamed of. Had a really poor experience here on 3/06/2026. The bartender set 3 pints of beers down and I wrongly assumed they were for the guys waiting behind me so I attempted to hand them the drinks as the beers had been sitting for a period of time. I was notified the beers weren't for the guy behind me and immediately apologized. The bartender accused me of drinking one of the beers.. I don't even drink beer. I tried to explain to the bartender and he attacked and belittled me. I stood up for myself and told him I don't even like beer and the beers weren't touched. I was honestly confused and shocked how the bartender yelled at me and treated me. I even tried to apologize and told the bartender I'm sorry and respect his job. I stood up for myself and called him out on his poor behavior / professionalism and he kicked me from the bar area. This experience made me feel extremely belittled, attacked, and deeply hurt. I've been to this bar many times and always treat the service staff with respect. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I hope the bartenders know I would never mess with their drinks or drink something that wasn't mine but it was inexcusable for the way this bartender treated me. read more

The very first time I ever tried English Baked Beans was here, and ever since, I've been absolutely obsessed! I ordered the Bangers and Mash, and it was incredible! The sausage went so well with the potatoes and gravy in additional to the sweetness of the beans. I also got to try the Leek Potato soup which was a okay but a bit grainy for my preference. Inside is very dark and gloomy but that's just the vibe for when you go to an Irish pub. We sat at the bar and it seemed as if there was only one person working. Hate to give Dargan's a bad review, but I feel like it's the only way I can really get this point across. I've been coming here for years, and the only thing that has made it nearly unbearable is the manager, Sara. She is one of the most unpleasant people I've come across who works in hospitality. She drives everyone out. You can't order a drink from her without getting dirty looks. She's also threatening to ban customers left and right without any legitimate reason. She walks around grabbing nearly full drinks from people playing pool just to throw them away. One night, I put my drink far under the table I was playing at. She reached down, grabbed it, and yelled at me. When I informed her that I put it there because, while I play pool, I can't always keep an eye on my drink and I've been roofied here before, she responded with, "I don't care!" You don't care about your customers getting drugged? Absolutely vile. I have countless other stories about her from many other regulars , not to mention how rude we've all seen her treat other employees. read more

The short bartender with the half beard was very rude to me and my friends. I'm not sure of his name but he was probably around 30/35, trimmed beard, and not tall. He called my friends and me several racial slurs and threatened to start a fight with us. Great place for pool, as there's multiple tables and clear sign up lists instead of putting quarters in a row. I like coming on Tuesday nights as they host karaoke with Vic, and he's a great host. Plus, they have well-updated song book with even some niche songs and artists, like Vulfpeck, Bartenders are friendly and do their job well. Saint Paddys Day 2025: First room: Seat yourself. My wife and I found seats quickly. It was mass seating at tables. Service staff ignored me and my wife (while serving those seated directly next to us) until our seatmates were served twice, while we were still ignored. I finally shouted to be noticed for service. Second room: We moved to the room with the band. It was standing room only. I was careful to give a wide clearance (at least 12" between my back and the mat) to the wait-staff mat a the bar. I get it, I was a beer-tender when I was in college. White females, on the other side of the bar-mat were not so careful, and encroached over the server mat at the bar. Instead of asking those encroaching on the server area, the waitress literally physically rapped in my back, spreading her arms 5 feet wide, and told me that I was encroaching on her space. We left Dargan's, and left my beer behind. There was no good that would have come from succumbing to further racial harassment. We found a great non-racist place to enjoy food and drinks, the Rodeo Room! Today, we spent about $130 at Santa Barbara Shellfish Company, $38 at Dargans, and $200 at Rodeo Room. Anyone who is a follower of mine here on Yelp knows about my ongoing love-affair with Santa Barbara. It's been our go-to getaway spot for 20 years now (wow... has it really been that long?!). And as much as we love to explore the downtown State Street district to look for new and unusual places; we really are creatures of habit out our core. The wifey and I usually gravitate around the same places. Every so often, we decide to try someplace new. This was one such time. We were in town last weekend (3/9-3/10) for the Santa Barbara Orchid Festival and had a great time. After we had checked into our hotel we found ourselves hungry. We were in that weird in-between time when it's not quite lunch or dinner; so we decided to look around Yelp for suggestions. Being that the family and I have recently "discovered" Irish pubs, my interest was piqued when I came across Dargan's. We live about 160 miles away in Redlands and have fallen in love with an Irish Pub there called The Three Stags (read my Yelp on it!). I cruised over to Dargan's website to look at the menu and there were several items that caught my attention. Some familiar and some new! Sooooo we decided to cruise over and check the place out. The location itself is very unusual. Even though it's located on Ortega near the corner of Ortega and State, one of its main entrances is located off State St, down the ways from The Habit. It's very conveniently located right next to one of Santa Barbara's public parking structures; one with ample parking, lots of EV Vehicle charging and a working elevator! Woohoo! We came in and sat down at a cozy table near a fireplace. Before we ordered, I explored the place a bit and we chatted with Ian, one of the bartenders. The "front" of the place (which faces Ortega) has 4 pool tables, dartboards and a smaller bar area (often called a "snug" or "lounge" in British/Irish pubs.). Ian informed us that this section was originally a clothing shop and was absorbed by the pub when the owner sold clothing shop. The "main" part of the pub that faces State St has a larger bar, tables and booths for dining and a raised area near the fireplace for live music and karaoke. The furnishings are delightful. Rich woods. Comfortable seating. They even have a couple dozen travel/pictorial/history books about Ireland to enjoy. We actually visited the place twice that day! The first trip, the wife ordered their "fish bites" with a side of coleslaw and I had the Spicy Bacon Burger. The fish bites were 10 little portions of Harp lager battered fish that made for a perfect lunch with Tartar Sauce to dip. She didn't care for the coleslaw (she liked the taste but thought the texture was a bit coarse..so I ate it..yum!). The spicy bacon burger was absolutely delicious with Kona bbq sauce and pickled jalapeños and served with chips (fries). We really liked the personable service and food and loved its location. After we were settled into our hotel room, we decided on a night time visit for dessert and drinks! Visit #2 happened around 10pm. It was a Saturday night and the place was popping! We were pleasantly surprised to get the same seat by the fireplace as earlier that day. The noise level was louder as was expected. The front bar area was full of younger-types enjoying pool and darts. The wife had an apple crisp a la mode and I ordered their chocolate bread pudding, also a la mode. I loved my bread pudding and whereas wifey liked her apple crisp, she wasn't expecting that it had nuts in it instead of a crispy crust. I washed my dessert down with a Guinness and wifey had a cocktail called a "Blueberry Lemon Drop" which was quite strong and quite tasty! I should also mention that their prices for both their food and drink items are quite reasonable; especially for touristy Santa Barbara. Overall we really really like this spot. Like others Yelpers have said...we wish we lived close enough for us to become regulars. Dargan's has been an overlooked gem to us for years now; but we certainly intend to make it a regular haunt for us when we're in town! I wish I could give it 4.5 stars, but for now it gets a solid 4 pending further exploration of the menu. Highly recommended if you're ever in the area and want to enjoy a pint...or more! read more

In truth, I've never actually tried the restaurant. My first time coming here, it was the first stop of the night before my boyfriend and I went out dancing. It was very busy as it was Thursday (college) night but the bartender was cranking out drinks like no one's business. After this night, I've been back at least a couple of more times and have to say I've always been very satisfied with my experience. A drink that my boyfriend and I like to order is a Vegas bomb on a night out and we've both agreed that the best one is at Dargan's. The bartenders have always been very nice and attentive as they can be considering how busy they get. The drinks at Dargan's are definitely considerably better than other clubs and bars we've been to. Basically, whenever my boyfriend and I go out in SB we always make the Dargan's the stop of the night. It's a must if you're taking part in the night life! read more

This is our new favorite place to go to in Santa Barbara - hands down! I was that person who showed up right when they opened and was ready to be greeted with moodiness from the bartender or server but instead, I was greeted with warmth and a nice smile. I sat at the bar waiting for my husband to arrive (he was finishing up an appointment elsewhere) and ordered a whiskey mixed drink and a bowl of their potato leek soup. Food was fantastic and on a cold, stormy day, it hit the spot! I sat there enjoying the ambiance which was dark, cozy and comfortable. I chatted with two bartenders and they made me laugh so much. Our party of 4 walked in and meandered around without anyone welcoming us or offering to seat us. The atmosphere inside was very clean and finely decorated to match the Irish pub feel. It's a dark place that some types who like divier aesthetics may want to come to have a whiskey or a beer and watch a football game. But prices are not really dive bar prices, though still very reasonable for downtown SB. I would probably avoid eating anything but an appetizer, however. The food is bar food, which is fine because it's that kind of place. But presentation can be lacking, and it's obvious some of it had probably been frozen. Having said that, the buffalo wings are totally satisfactory and get the job done. I give it a 3/5 because it gets the job done -- beers, whiskey, football, apps. read more

We were not expecting to be able to eat at a pub ever again... alright maybe that's an exaggeration but we have all felt that over the last year. It was my birthday and we had driven to Santa Barbara to find some food and go sit outside somewhere nice and eat. We both enjoy good pub food so we found Dargan's and pulled up to place an order to go. Since it was a Friday afternoon it was not crowed yet at all and tables were spaced out nicely so we thought "MY GODS WE COULD ACTUALLY EAT HERE SAFELY!" So we did and were so happy we plan on making Dargan's a destination pub when we need to get away. The food was great and they have quite the selection of Whiskey and Scotch and the pours were generous. Very nice place traditional pub interior music was nice, they have lots of televisions if sporting events are your thing. The staff masked up when ever interacting with the customers, both me and my partner are very cautious as everyone should be during this crazy time and felt very at ease here. DARGAN's CUSTOMERS BEWARE: I'm a disabled senior who went into Dargans Thurs.,Oct 31 at 4:20 pm for a Shepherds Pie advertised for eight dollars on their Happy Hour. I sat at the bar. When I got my bill, it was for $11.96. I didn't order a small glass of beer (as usual) as I'm on a new medication and can't have alcohol. When I politely asked the barman why my check was $11.96 instead of $8. plus tax (as advertised on-line), he snarled "food is expensive -- I can't change the price." And then he used a vulgar profanity at me. I have been a loyal customer of Dargans since 2009. I didn't want anything more than an explanation for the up charge. Being treated with such disrespect is unacceptable . And I was about to order the corn beef & cabbage entree at $30. to take home as it's my favorite. Instead I walked out.
