Very cool place with a great selection and balance of commercial brands of wine vs small esoteric producers. I can only rate on the selection as I didn't return for the full bar service they offer, but would've if we had more time while in town. Worth a visit if you're a wine lover. read more

I swear, if you don't look a certain way (e.g. over 60, dressed preppy), these folks don't give a fart about you. Irony, the owner/manager (?) certainly doesn't have that appearance himself. I come in at 1pm on a Thursday for lunch and a glass of wine. Albariño was the white of the day. It was too green for me so I ended up leaving more than half the glass behind (and anyone who knows me, that never happens). I was looking forward to some Brie and apple crostini and a PLT (prosciutto, arugula, and tomato) sandwich, but the owner/manager was too busy with his tasting with a wine merchant to bother with me and the second employee apparently doesn't cook. I waiting 20 mins sipping terrible wine and finally got up, paid for my glass, and left. Don't come here unless you are just picking up a bottle or two. the bartender was very nice and accommodating. I attended an event and got hurt and the owner was actually kind but his partner or friend not sure who it was? Was very nasty and accused me of hurting myself in the restroom when in fact it was the lack of their up keep why I got hurt. Always sad to leave a bad review for small business but his friend was rude. I did go to the er and tried to call multiple times, but never was able to get through the business or his personal cell phone while I was in the er. I will never say dont go to a mom pop but I will say proceed with caution and just don't get hurt because no one will care read more

We had a work function at the wine cellar. It was a really good experience especially for how many people they were having to serve. We had a pick-your-own charcuterie with delicious cheeses and meats. The service was wonderful and the owner was really friendly. Food was above average, service was great, selection of tap beers was good, selection of wines was very good!

It was my first time here before I left for deployment and I was super excited they could make an order for me. I came back from deployment to pick it up and the lady at the counter was rude. She thought my IDs were fake, and when I tried taking my military ID back she didn't give it. I will not be going back here again. Unexpected find after a disappointing experience at our planned lunch venue. We literally looked it up on the way back to the hotel and were blown away by the hospitality, food and wine. I had the delicious grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and tomato, while my husband had the meaty flatbread choice. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the wine we selected was really superb. A great hidden gem in the 'burg! Not only do they have a great selection of wine, there is also a nice assortment of stouts, ipas, ales, mixed in with a few ciders and meads. A bonus is they have a nice assortment of local beers on tap. You can bring your growler and get it filled and sit down and enjoy s glass or two while you wait. Cozy atmosphere, family friendly, nicely decorated, friendly and knowledgeable staff, some food choices like cheeses and chocolate. Easy to get to location with lots of parking. Highly recommended. Great wine and craft beer selections every day of the week. We enjoy the (free) tastings on Friday - usually wine, but they do rotate beer. The staff have always been amazing, even when crowded. Excellent beer and cigar selection and really good sandwiches if you're not in a hurry (as you shouldn't be for a good sandwich and drink). Best Reuben in town IMHO. They actually deserve 10 stars. I was turned onto The Wine Seller when I was attempting to locate a specific beer from a small Norther Virginia brewery. Being the only place in the area to carry the beer, I ordered it online for curbside pickup. I got an email within 2 mins that the beer was ready for pickup. Pulled up curbside and was greeted quickly by a friendly employee that thanked me for my business (and not one of those generic thanks, but a sincere one) and put my beer in the car. Went to this place last week, and I'm afraid it's a one and done for me. I was looking for a Champagne as a gift, and since the selection was so limited I started looking for another wine. No one ever came over to help. Fine. So I take the bottle that I selected myself and walked over to the register where a guy with long hair was standing. The guy just ignored me then walked over to the bar which I realized he was tending. I get it if someone has to cover a bar, but you NEVER walk away from a customer without acknowledging them with at least "I'm covering the bar, but my co-worker will check you out in just a minute" or any basic polite form of acknowledgement. Totally rude. Then the guy who eventually came over and did check me out (never cracked a smile or said anything like "did you find everything you needed" etc) did the most lame job of gift wrapping the not-cheap bottle of wine that I bought. He just slipped in a silver cover and said "there ya go". Sorry, but at these prices, you don't get me back with that lackluster service. read more

They also have an impressive beer selection and employees that clearly know what they are talking about and can steer you in the right direction. I had a great roast beef and bleu cheese sandwich with a VBC Adroit Theory double IPA. They were both wonderful. Yes, the wine seller. Buyer beware, the store next door, Publix, has the same wine $20 cheaper. As a tourist to Williamsburg, I was thoroughly dissatisfied with the service provided. I went to this place and spent $80 and returned within 10 minutes after seeing next door was cheaper. They do not accept returns or your money back. Likely because they know they are ripping you off on prices. The staff was rude and unhelpful. The man at the bar rolled his eyes at me and the woman had an attitude. But all New York experiences pale in comparison to the customized treatment I got from Amber at The Wine Seller this week! I called in, stumbled through some semi-clumsy descriptions of the kind of wine we like, and Amber was back over e-mail with a personalized list of recommendations, each accompanied by a really expressive tasting note. I currently live in the Washington DC area but I have family living literally right around the corner from the wine seller location in Williamsburg. So,I visited the place looking for a sweet white wine, specifically moscato. I know very little about wine, therefore decided to ask the cashier the difference about 2 moscoatos that I found on the shelf. The cashier was not able to tell me, as he said he didn't know. (I was a bit confused as the name of the place is called the wine seller and you would think the employee would be a bit more knowledgeable). So I ended up taking 1 of the 2 bottles I picked up. It was soooooo good,I just knew I had to go back next weekend for more. Well, Friday arrived once more and I wasn't gonna make it on time before they closed, therefore I asked my cousin to go purchase a bottle on my behalf. My cousin said he was unable to locate the bottle,but I was so looking forward to the wine, that I had to make sure myself. So I decided to call the store directly about 15 mins before they closed. The employee picked up and I proceeded to ask about the wine (I didn't have the exact name to the bottle,but I did have an exact description: sweet white wine,moscato in a green bottle with bumble bees around the neck of the bottle) well the employee, said "we don't have it". I was expecting a "however, we should get more next week" or something more than just "we don't have it" I decided to ask one more follow up question,in hopes that the employee would deliver a more customer friendly response. However, the employee did not provide any further information. It was like pulling teeth, trying to get a decent respond from him. After about 6 questions, I finally got the answer I was looking for: "the wine buyer should be be back on Monday,please check back on Monday ". OMG. Needless to say, I ended up going alll the way to newport news in order to purchase the 6 bottles I was ready to buy from the wine seller location. Had I experienced a more customer friendly experience via the phone, without a doubt,I would've waited to speak with a wine buyer and come In that following weekend .sadly, Bieng that the customer service was not friendly nor helpful, the drive to Newport news is one worth taking. We had just got done eating and was taking a quick walk and notice the wine tasting set up from the front window. So we took a chance and walked in. I tried the Wine Seller on a whim, and was pleasantly surprised. They have a good beer selection, and also some wines in the $10-20 range (in addition to plenty of more expensive wines). For beers they start at around grocery store prices, and go up from there. I was expecting them to be more expensive than your standard grocery store, but was gladly wrong. You can buy individual beers of some brands, which is nice if you want to try something without committing. I got 1 can of tasty oatmeal stout which I needed for a recipe. They also have an interesting selection of sandwiches and apparently have regularly beer and wine tastings. I plan to come back and check all of that out. So-- in summary, this is a great place to get beer and wine for prices that rival the average grocery store-- but with the added plus that you're supporting a small, local business. read more
