Pro: The deli sandwiches are great! They use Boar's Head meat, which, to my taste, is the best you can get. And it's a real NYC style-deli as far as menu and food quality are concerned. The corned beef and Swiss on rye is absolutely wonderful. Never had a bad meal here, and the wait staff is wonderful. We often go here with friends. My wife loves the place. Con: The interior is full of ads. EVERYWHERE. No escaping them. It's horrible, like being trapped in one of those sales things you get in the mail. Ambiance is zero. The place is much larger than it looks with a long aisle of tables. The decor could be upgraded and still keep the diner feel. The walls are all large ads for businesses. Doesn't really look good. Ordered the Reuben and onion rings to share. Reuben's are typically very large. This was a small Reuben and for sure could have eaten the entire thing. Onion rings were a bit soggy and table didn't like their fries either. The Reuben, though small, was very good. Service was quick and waitress was nice. The place is quite expensive for wha you get. After all these years, still one of the best brunch places in the west end. Always busy on weekends but the queue moves quickly. The staff is super friendly and efficient and responsive. The food is always spot-on. I have had several opportunities to go in on weekdays as well. The general vibe is slower, though the food comes out fast. Always several clusters of retirees and several pairs of business folks talking in hushed tones. On these days, even if you haven't been in in months they make you feel like a regular. This is Yelp, so I need to recommend a few things to order. Their chef salad is HUGE. The club sandwich is a great offering. And the one you'll skip over but shouldn't is the Adkins Special, which is 3 eggs and 2 meats (or 2x one meat) -- no bread, no fruit, no potatoes. Sometimes you just need to go all proteins! Anyway, all of these are great options. Also, their "numbered" deli sandwiches are all good choices. We remain regulars. Walking into Boychik's Deli feels like stepping back in time. It's an old-school, cozy, very much like a classic 1970s deli. It has been around since 1990, and it shows in the atmosphere and the crowd of regulars who clearly love it. Parking was easy in the strip mall, and even near closing there was only about a five-minute wait. Our waitress was kind and helpful, especially since it was our first visit, which made things easy. I had the Everything Bagel with cream cheese, scrambled eggs, and home fries. The eggs were cooked perfectly fluffy, and the potatoes tasted good but were on the softer side...I would have liked them crispier. The French toast was excellent, soft with those little crispy edges, and the coffee hit the spot. One small thing: I had asked for bacon on the side since I am a vegetarian, but it ended up on the plate. Not a huge deal, but I do think more attentiveness would help, especially for people who don't want their food to touch. Prices are a little high for the overall value, but I understand why people keep coming back. Between the nostalgic vibe, the friendly service, and the solid breakfast, Boychik's is worth a visit. Listen ... I'm from up north and this is my go to deli in the RVA area. Yes they are in short pump and my only complaint is that they close around 2:30 everyday! The absolutely best Rueben I've ever had. The pastrami is always so fresh and the best quality I've tasted in this area. I have never dined in but every time I go they are pretty busy. You can't say anything bad about Boychiks to me! The staff are always very very kind and friendly and that's another thing that keeps me coming back. I was close to Shortpump and was looking for a really good breakfast cafe that I could get a nice serving of bacon and eggs which was literally what I craved at the time hahaha! I found Boychik's on Yelp and they had pretty good reviews. Upon walking in the cafe atmosphere is really cozy and gives a relaxed cafe vibe with unique decor. Uniquely on the menu I was able to order The Adkins Special which is literally eggs and bacon in my case, but you can get sausage or any choice of meat and eggs made any way you want. It was very filling and you really get a nice portion. I got mines to go since I was on my way into work, I called it in and didn't wait long at all. They were open till 130 four-day, being Xmas Eve, and I'm glad we thought to come in. I was surprised by how many tables and booths were open. Our server was super nice, everyone was very festive. The highlight was definitely the grilled Reuben. The meat was warm and super savory! It matched very well with the sauce and kraut. The bread was toasted and buttered. I've been coming here for years as it's a Richmond staple. Today, my in laws planned a pre Christmas brunch to see everyone and exchange gifts. They had asked if they needed a reservation prior to showing up since we were a fairly large party and were told they don't do reservations but to call about half an hour before arrival so they could prepare. They called about 45 mins before arrival, explaining what they were told and that we needed a table for 12. They were sort of brushed off but told they'd make note of it and see us then. We all got there and there had been no note made so we were put on the wait-list, no problem. The problem came in when the young man in charge of seating guests kept seating people coming in after us instead of pushing tables together for us. When asked about it after the second or third time of seating a party of 6 or more instead of pushing two 6 tops together for us, he told us that those tables are different sections. The children were getting antsy and when asked about what the plan was for a table for us, we were rudely told we needed to move because we couldn't stand where we were. There was nowhere to stand. There's really no waiting area and it was too cold for the kids to be waiting outside for an undetermined amount of time. We moved to the area in front of the take out counter where the woman working the counter looked at us questioningly. We told her what was said to us and she looked confused, rolled her eyes, and shook her head. At this point, with no one bothering to help us, we called the Silver Diner who was able to seat us right away and left to go across the street. I love the food here, but the service today was absolutely horrible. It's not about the fact we had to wait for a table for a larger party, it's about the fact they talked so rudely to us and wouldn't answer our questions about how long of a wait to expect or what the plan was for getting a table if they kept seating every free table that came up with people that came in after us. It definitely makes me question whether I'll come back here again if this is how their staff act towards people, especially those with young kids who are hungry and they're just trying to keep them calm. read more

Shopping trip to Richmond and didn't want to miss the opportunity for a great breakfast at this staple that has been open since 1990! Classic deli/diner. Very busy, but got seated quickly. Waitress was a little saucy, but given how busy they were, no problem at all. We got breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, sausage gravy, oatmeal and omelets - all were very good! Biscuits were so light, fluffy and tasty! Everything made to order and perfect temp. Good coffee and OJ! Prices are very reasonable. Pay at the counter on the way out. Stopped in for lunch and was glad we didn't let the crowd deter us. The dining room is pretty shoulder to shoulder, but the servers were so friendly and efficient that we had an excellent lunch in the same amount of time fast food would have taken. The meats are all Boar's Head, sliced to order. I also ordered the chicken noodle soup with a matzo ball. The broth tasted like the matzo ball soup mix from Streit, which is not a bad thing. The matzo ball was delicious and light. We got corned beef on the freshest rye bread I've had in ages. Portions were reasonable- generous without being excessive. Tables around us were having breakfast, which also looked delicious. I doubt if you can make a bad choice. If we lived closer, this place would be our regular lunch spot. It's an older deli with some local business advertisements on the walls. The staff is always very friendly and welcoming. They work hard because the place is usually full all day. Today's trip I had the Rueben sandwich and when I tell you it was good, one of the best I've had. The bread was soft and added that nice flavor with the 1000 island dressing with the kraut. I've taken friends who absolutely love this place. They wish they had a Boychik's where they live. Every time they come this way we end up there having a meal. Boychik's is not a commercial chain nor is it advertised well. The beauty of that is that it is a locals place where those of us that live in the area frequent. I have had nothing but the best experience at Boychiks. My wife and I go every Saturday and Sunday. Good food and great service. Today was totally different. I arrived to a not full restaurant and asked to be seated in a booth. They had several available. When the hostess realized that I was alone, she guided me to a table. I pleasantly asked to sit at a booth and not the tables. She looked around and began speaking with some sort of the servers. She then came back to me and said "You can sit in the booth by the front window". I said, ok, but it's 16 degrees outside and everyone over there are still wearing their coats. I'd prefer to sit somewhere warm in the restaurant. She said, ok let me help some other people and I will get back to you. I waited several minutes as I stood out of the way by the front deli counter. A few minutes later one of the owners who I've spoken with many many times and in the past has been very nice and polite, said to me...Yeah, booths are for 2 or more people. I said, it's never been an issue in the past. I don't understand. He said, that's the way it is and began to walk away. I said, no first come first serve here? Buddy put up a sign with your rules for seating. He turned and said sarcastically, maybe we will. I in turn said, well I'm sorry but I don't think my family will be returning. He said, no big deal, I think we can survive. I realize that my $50 to $70 each visit will not make any difference to them or their business. It's unfortunate that when you attempt to support a good local business, they don't show any appreciation or the slightest care. They seem to not care that hard earned dollars could be spent anywhere. I don't hope they fail. I hope they take note and change some things. I will never be back and I will not tell someone, I will tell everyone about my last experience. I ordered my Ruben only to find out they were out of corn beef. Just my luck. However, a few customers mentioned that The pastrami Reuben was just as good. So I agreed to get that. I also ordered some potato pancakes. Customer service was really good. The wait wasn't too bad. The Pastrami Ruben- a little soggy due to the Sauerkraut not being drained enough. Potato pancakes- disappointed. These were not was I was anticipating. From initial appearance they were gorgeous. But when I took a bite I was thrown off that there was shredded potatoes on the inside. I'm not a fan of shredded potatoes on anything. I expected them to be mashed. This recent trip we decided to give it a try. 1. The staff was friendly and courteous 2. The food came out quite quickly ( in hind site that should've been a red flag ) 3. The prices were on the higher side for a Deli but we understand that everything is higher these days. Example - omelette, cup of coffee, coke and a small bowl of chilli without tip was $26 and after tip $32 approximately. 4. Omelette was okay but home fries hard as the soles of my shoes. Chili was quite average and believe the main purpose of having it on the menu is to add to eggs or as a topping of some sort. Four of us had lunch here on a Friday. This deli has been around awhile. It is in a strip mall and there is lots of parking. The deli looks small from the outside, but it goes way back and there is a lot of indoor and some outdoor seating. The menu is HUGE. I think you could eat here for a month and get something different every day. My wife had a cracked pepper turkey sandwich and I had a rueben sandwich. They were both really good.
