I stopped by because I had a craving for wings. I got the 10 piece combo with two sauces. The wings were not good mostly because they were undercooked. I like my wings crispy and that's why I normally get the dry rub. The wings were soggy. Two of them still had blood on the bone. I really wanted to like this place. Perhaps I just caught them on an off day... My friends who suggested going there are locals, so apparently they have had positive experiences there. But I can only comment on my singular experience. Here goes... When you arrive, you need to go to the counter, order and pay for your meal, then take a seat. If you ordered a drink, you'll get a glass so you can serve yourself at the soda fountain. Your meal will be brought to your table. Pros: The location on Ed Carey Road is easy to find, and there is ample parking. The outside looks well maintained. The ambience is casual, industrial western, roomy, and the decor is nice for a sports bar kind of establishment. There is a large screen on one wall to project sports events, but while we were there on a Sunday afternoon they did not use it. I'm actually glad about that because I wanted conversation to accompany my food, not a blaring game. The menu has plenty of variety, more than their signature wings which come in lots of flavors regular wings or "boneless", you can also get sandwiches, wraps, burgers, chicken strips, hot dogs, salads, desserts, and there are many sides and appetizers from which to choose. There is also a kids' menu. They have a good variety of drinks, Pepsi products, fresh brewed iced tea (my favorite), and bottled beer. The best thing I ate was a cream cheese stuffed jalapeno wrapped in bacon... Now that was quite spicy but delicious. The prices are comparable to other wing establishments. Cons: The tables and chairs have much to be desired. The tables are made of thick wood which was a bit porous and sticky and did not feel clean at all. I don't think it would help to wipe them down... the finish on the wood is not right for a dining table. I did not to touch the tables, so I took some of the paper towels they have available and set them on the table like a place mat. The chairs are the hard metal folding kind. Unless you are physically built in such a way you have your own padding you may not want to be seated long. I did not use the restroom, so I cannot comment on that. The floor is concrete... all I will say is I would not want my child playing on the floor. The service was substandard. We were not greeted. We just got in line. I was with about 10 people, and we all ordered about the same time. Some of us got our food within 30 minutes, but others waited 45 minutes. Perhaps they were short staffed, but it was quite a wait for hungry people. Food was disappointing. Since they had a family pack special, a couple of others and myself ordered that... 4 simple burgers with fries. Some of the others got wings and stuffed jalapenos for appetizers and shared them. My burger was OK, edible, but way overcooked to the point it was dry. The menu's description of the burgers and their prices are comparable to Red Robin, but quite inferior. The fries were made from fresh potatoes and were reasonable, but limp. The boneless "wings" (actually a piece of chicken breast) smothered in hot sauce was good, but not spectacular. I had a great time because I had great company, but considering the other options in town, and in light of my experience, I would choose another place. Hands down THEE worst wings I have ever had. Poof! I went with the boneless wings, which was a big mistake. The moment I bit into it, it bounced back. I couldn't even bite through the weird flesh (chewy, rubbery, sort of translucent color)... I couldn't tell if the chicken was just really old or frozen for a long time. I can't believe they are feeding this to people. The fries were good and the fountain drink was not terrible but not great either. Came to visit Harlingen from Houston and stopped in for a bite to eat with my family. When we got here it was empty 10:30pm. I asked April (person behind counter) if they were open and annoyed she answered yes. As my family ordered our food it was obvious she was not happy we chose this place Im guessing because they close at 12. I pass by the wing barn on my drive down from HRL to south padre island. The wing barn has a very solid burger for $5. It's big, juicy, and delicious. Oddly the wings aren't spicy at all. Go for the hottest sauce if you want some heat. The poppers are very good. They have big crunchy jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese and the wrapped in bacon. It's tough to mess up poppers but in this case they do the name right. The smothered fries were just "ok". They could use more bacon and/or chili. I would most likely come back on my next trip thorugh (unless there's a stripes nearby, because the laredo taco company is the shit). read more

The #1 reason why I come here is for the 50 cent wings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They have great flavors to pick from; my personal favorites are Parmesan Garlic and the Thai. However, they can be pretty inconsistent with the wing size and flavors. Some days it will be delicious with great flavors and large wings, and some days you'll get wings that are 95% bone and cold. Also, service can be a little dodgy sometimes. They frequently mix up orders, but I think that's more an issue of volume of customers on 50 cent wing nights. Usually Just come to get wings. If you ever order via phone, make sure to check your order before you leave. One time, they didn't give us the dessert. The other time I check and fries were missing so luckily I caught it despite the girl making it seem like it was there. TIP: I can see how this place would be worth it on Tuesday and Thurs - which is 50 cent wings! I would only come and try different flavors on these days since the wings are so cheap. I first tried this place a few years ago and had a terrible experience. It wasn't until 2018 (at least 3 years) that I gave it another shot (and two more since then) and much to my surprise I have enjoyed the experience. I don't believe one can mention Wing Barn and not compare it to Wing Stop, but to me they even out as each offers items the other does not. With Wing Barn you have an expansive menu with many different sides and they definitely don't skimp you on the sauce. The boneless wings aren't as crunchy as Wing Stop's, so you can use your personal preference to gauge that. Price-wise I pay the same regardless of which place I go to, but I have been leaning towards Wing Barn lately due to the sides they offer. read more

There is a nail salon next door in the same shopping strip and I guess they share the same a/c vent because Wing Zone has a strong smell of chemicals used at the nail salon. Ugghhh. Make me lose my appetite for sure. I ordered take out. I had the honey bbq wings. The sauce is tasty and large, but just as my first experience, the meat is tough, not tender.
