I'm so happy this store exists in Winthrop. It's great to be able to shop at a local business and not have to drive over to Cambridge to visit my other preferred bookstores. Stopped in again, just before small business Saturday for some holiday gift books! They have a nice variety of holiday books/gifts and some toys as well as their regular book selection. I bought a couple of gift books, the high school money guide by a local author on consignment, so they support local indie writers! And they have a nice coffee menu/pastries as well, chiefly take out these days. You may want to call first because sometimes different hours around the holidays. TLDR: Love love LOVE! Please support this sweet book and coffee shop! Low prices, plenty of menu options, and the coolest staff. My sister and I had a 8 hour layover at the Logan Airport and wanted to find a coffeeshop to rest in for a few hours before we headed back in for our flight. Located just 10-15 min from the airport, this sweet cafe/store is tucked in the middle of the neighborhood of Winthrop! The menu has a variety of hot and cold drinks and specialties all ranged between about $2-$4- so much less expensive than a Starbucks. I ordered a peppermint hot chocolate that they topped with marshmallows and plenty of whip and it. Hit. The. Spot. The two ladies working behind the counter were funny, helpful, and sweet. They didn't mind us lounging around with 3 suitcases for a few hours. In the food area, there's about 5 tables with enough seating for 20. The book variety was definitely limited but had enough selection to enjoy something for everyone. Not really much parking around but seems to be easily walkable. Much love to this book depot! An independent bookstore--hallelujah! The breakfast menu was was comprehensive and everything looked delicious, though I only wanted coffee at the time. Drank it while sitting in an armchair and reading a book, of course. There will definitely be a next time for sampling the menu. I was excited to see the selection of books--not huge but all genres are represented--and I wanted to read almost every one of them. Asked the owner if she chose the books herself. Of course she did! I'm trying to explore Winthrop more as I'd love to eventually move to this area. I think coffee and book dates are such a cute idea so I went on yelp to see if there were any near where my boyfriend and I live. This book/coffee shop popped up and I was excited that it was in Winthrop. I told my boyfriend that we needed to come here. We came on a day it was snowing and Winthrop looked beautiful. The store was located in a cute area in the center of town. We easily found parking and when we went inside it wasn't too busy. We were able to find a table. I bought a vanilla iced coffee because I pretty much only like cold drinks (with the exception of hot tea), and my boyfriend also got a hot coffee. I also had to get a cookie. Everything was good, the menu was pretty extensive and they have a lot of flavors and different types to drink. The book selection was small but they had a good variety and a lot of new books. The Winthrop Book Depot offers a wonderful variety of baked goods and delicious coffee/tee/juices. The book offerings are less than the megastores, but you can always find a good book here. In addition, they have an assortment of cards and children's books. Although I moved from Winthrop several years ago, the Book Depot is a "must stop" whenever I get back to town. So I just landed at Boston airport and my ride that's coming in from out of state is still 2 hours away. I just map quested the closest coffee shop and bookstore so I could get out of the airport and relax a little and wow what a treat finding this place is! The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, the coffee is delicious and the ambiance is cozy and clean. I highly recommend this place! This is such a great place! They brew individual shots of espresso with a fantastic little Italian espresso maker. They offer a variety of sweeteners including maple syrup. No charge for non-dairy alternatives. Excellent baked goods abound. There's a small book shop in the back. The gal behind the counter was very personable and knowledgeable. Suzanne & her family are the real brilliance. Suzanne is friendly, over-accommodating, and always remembers how you take your coffee. Lots of choices: coffee flavors, sweeteners, and "white" stuff (soy milk, almond milk, whole, skim, half & half...). It's quite the community hang out and very kid friendly. read more

It's nice here, but they're not open often. It's small, the ice coffee is $2 and it's pretty good. You can get a bagel and hummus - it's nice to have healthy stuff. It's nice that you always run into people and get a chance to catch up. There's the tiniest little book store in the back, and you can read the Winthrop Transcript for free while you drink your coffee. The staff is friendly and pleasant. Just wish they were open more - they aren't open after work in the evenings or on Sundays, which is when I'd usually want a coffee shop! read more
