We spent way longer in here than anticipated and that's a good thing. This place is huge and has so much to see and look at. I usually only come into these stores with my husband because he's the nerd but lemme tell ya, even I saw a few things that I'd like to have. Fortunately, for my pocket book and for my carry-on, my husband kept his cool and just bought a few small things that he hasn't seen in any of the shops where we live. He was super excited to check everything out and get things he can't get at home and I was lucky it was all small things. Why 4 stars? The place is upkept well but it kind of smells musty and weird in here. The employees are kind of meh, not very helpful or friendly. Also, pricing is a bit high, comparatively speaking, so the value is a bit low, but I do understand this place in a tourist zone, so I get it. read more

I should not have come into the store when I did. I was in town for work and exploring the area on a break. I called my children to tell them where I was and $350 later I was buying a new suitcase to fit everything I purchase for them. This store has a huge selection of everything. I found funko pops, plushies, books, pens, and so much more. I was kicking myself for going back to it because I had already passed it, but I went back and called my kids. After several FaceTime calls, I was in for almost $400. Honestly, I'd do it again. This store has some of everything and something for everyone. No one left empty handed that I saw. read more

I stop here every time I visit Boston. They've bought the second floor levels in each of the stores beside them, leading to an "Alice in Wonderland" effect. They have one shelf of actual comics, all new releases, and they are very picked over and thin. If you want to browse that kind of stuff and you're near Faneuil Hall check it out. LOVE the comic variety in style, genres, and publishing companies - lots of classic stuff as well as some less-common manga. Equally pleased by the other book titles, but this is NOT the place to ship for the NYT best sellers. LOVE the funko and plushie options - if you have a kid who collects, you can't pass up a stop here. LOVE the t-shirt selection. From classic rock bands like Nirvana and AC/DC to 80s and 90s pop culture references like the Simpsons and Super Mario brothers, I could spend days going through them all. And after that, rifling through the vinyl selection for more nostalgia. There are also board games, hats, stickers, and other funny and interesting tchotchkes to check out. The prices are fair for Boston and the service is always top notch - highly recommend a walk through Newbury in between historic sites. read more

If you stop by Quincy Market you got to visit Newbury Comics. It looks pretty small from the iutside but It's actually a pretty huge store with 2 floors. It's such a fun store. They literally have a bit of everything: mangas, comics, books, plushies, toys, Funko pop! figures, board games, vinyl records, back pack, refrigerator magnets and many more. On two floors, a large selection of gaming and movie and popular culture toys and tshirts and posters. What a horrible "comic store". It was more like a Hot Topic or Spencer's than a comic shop. We saw the sign while walking though Quincy Market so, me being a comic fanboy, we decided to kill some time before dinner in The North End. Kill time is exactly what we did;kill our valuable time that we will never get back. This "comic shop" was so full of junk that I had a hard time finding any comics or comic-related stuff in the two level store. I don't know what the intent is here, but it is NOT a comic shop. Man, this place is MASSIVE! I was actually only able to pop in for a couple minutes, but you could literally get lost in here. Small downstairs space, but go up the stairs and it opens into a sprawling shop. They have so much cool stuff here. Vinyl, comics, tshirts, games, toys....you name it, they have it. Prices were good and staff was friendly. Employees on the first and second floor both asked if there was anything I needed help with. I really wish there was a place like this in the B'ham area. The closest thing to it would be 2nd and Charles (- all the used books). So much cool stuff here, really could have got lost in here for a couple hours and not even realized it. If we make our way back up to Boston, this place will definitely get a little more time carved out so it get's the proper attention that it deserves. Highly recommend! read more

This is such a cool store, especially for nerds like me. It's located by Quincy Market and is two floors of all of your favorite fandoms, comics, etc. etc. We originally saw a smaller version of this store at the Cape Cod mall and loved it, so we knew we had to visit this larger location once we saw it. There are different rooms, one mostly pertaining to music, one to books, and a couple rooms with a mix of different collectibles. They've got a bunch of great gift items, and funny books to look through. The store is very clean and organized, worth a browse! read more

Sooooo... I really don't know what to say to be honest. Like any other Newbury Comics it's a really interesting store except it's overpriced as hell. and your probably thinking " dude its a comic store. Newbury comics is overpriced in general". Well yeah you're right but they add some random tax for no reason to the price. I bought Naruto: Chibi Sasuke's sharingan legend because I'm a weeb and they added $0.62 as tax for no reason. But besides that it's a really cool store with a wide Funko pop selection, a really cool manga selection too. So besides the prices being very high and it's fucked up tax that they add to the price it's a cool store and great for browsing. The book I bought was originally $9.99 and I payed $10.61 read more

Newbury Comics was a must visit for me after I read about the antics and history of Johnny Cupcakes. Apparently Johnny started out his career here and worked here during the day while selling tshirts and graphics at night. I was surprised that this place still had that old comic store look and feel, despite selling a variety of different toys and CDs also. They had many cool kidrobot and Japanese characters toys like Domo. I scored a nerd Domo I will be placing in a prominent location in my office. Woot! This new location is worlds beyond the previous Government Center spot. If they were to get in a fight Faneuil would kick GC the no-noes then spit in its face, and rightly so. Having wandered in on opening day I was happy to find a brightly lit space to browse. The first floor is teeny and does not give a hint to what's in store upstairs. The second floor is HUGE spanning several rooms each with it's own quirky set-up. This is the good thing about reusing these historical spaces. You end up with odd nooks and crannies that can be filled with such things and skull and crossbones flasks (with d-clips, natch), Homer Simpson shaped everything, squawking plastic chickens, lunchboxes, penis soap, you name it. The comics have their own room and no longer seem like an after thought which I think is awesome. I'm not a huge comic fan myself but I do think that if it's in your name you should do it justice. This makes a big leap toward doing so. They even have an awesome mural of comic characters just outside of the second floor entrance. I don't know if this was to do with them still basking in the glow of having opened the new location but the staff was super friendly saying hi no less than 10 times while we walked around, smiling (!), joking with customers and each other. They were even jovial while cashing me out. Having grown accustomed to surly cashiers in this town this made for a welcome change and only added to the experience. Maybe it's to do with the opening but their prices actually seemed more reasonable than before. Any spot that can offer a cinematic masterpiece like Adventures in Babysitting for $6 is A-OK with me. Opting to be frugal I picked up two brand-new DVDs for $13. While you may not find everything to be bargain-basement priced FYE this is not. It's clear they have more work to do, whole alcoves were still bare, racks a little empty just yet, security system needs to be toned down a wee bit so innocent folk browsing the nearby racks don't set it off, and they need to get the music playing in every room, but regardless I must say this is the best Newbury Comics out there. The massive size easily accommodates the throngs of photo-snappers and shows huge promise of things to come. This store is worth a trip to Faneuil Hall. OMG. I just recommend going to Faneuil. I was in this store yesterday afternoon and I had a great time there so I wanted to write a review. This is an awesome location. It is a very good size and I really like the layout of the store. Downstairs I saw all kinds of novelty items and there were stickers with real funny sayings on them that made me start laughing. One of them said something like: "I am afraid of normal people but not as afraid as they are of me." That was one of the stickers that really got me to laugh. And there were some other stickers having to do with zombies. They sell all kinds of clothing, stickers, books, beer glasses and if you go to the upstairs level you will find CD's and Vinyl there as well. The prices on their CD's are very reasonable. They had some beer glasses with skulls on them that I kind of liked and I also really liked their bumper stickers and their variety of CD's. You never know what you might find here. This store has stairs to get to the upper level but there is an elevator you can use to get up there if you go outside the store. Go to the cashier or any employee there and they will tell you exactly where to find the elevator. I was too lazy to leave the store, plus I was enjoying myself too much to leave for even a second so I took the stairs to get up there. Oh and speaking of the upper level they had a very good clearance area up there and I saw some pretty decent buys on a lot of the items. The guy at the downstairs register who waited on me is about the coolest cashier I have ever met at any Newbury Comics location. He is awesome and he could definitely put anyone in a good mood. I hope to run into him again the next time I am in there. read more

If you're into music and novelties and the feeling of vindication you get when you see that an independent T-shirt company shares your taste for obscure-but-not-really TV shows, then you can kill a lot of time floating about Newbury Comics. It is a mecca of semi-themed randomness where the theme covers such things as Ugly Dolls, historical action figures, and silly hats. Most of these objects are of questionable utility, but they are fun, and if you have any sort of whimsy about you, you'll be tempted to open up your wallet here and there. That said, very few of these novelties are so novel you can't find them in every other novelty store in the country. Still, the place is huge and plenty of fun to browse. read more

This location has a beautiful layout and is in an incredible location, but what's happening with Newbury Comics? The store has now become a tween hangout filled with a million different Internet meme shirts. The clothing here used to be unique and witty in the past, but I don't know how many variations of the "Grumpy Cat" I can look at. The cd selection here is almost absence and I don't recall seeing one dvd. The staff here was too busy hanging out with their younger customers to check in with us but the store is obviously under transition. Overall, maybe this is the point where I need to accept this new change and move on. This is a decent Newbury Comics location that is decently stocked. read more

I was all "Where the heck is the music?" when I came in the lower entrance. Ohhhh, it's upstairs in the back (i.e., closer to the other entrance). This Newbury Comics has a much larger selection of non-media stuff - souvenirs and such. It makes sense, you're in a part of Boston heavy on the tourist trip, and also dealing with that technology thingy where you don't necessarily have to get your music and movies on those discs. The music and movie selections, while smaller than in other stores, were diverse and well organized. I always appreciate that. But what I really appreciated was the chat I had with one of the clerks as I was eyeballing the music for a group I'm just starting to follow. He provided a nice background on the group and a good analysis of their music over time. I was even more impressed when I heard him talking to another employee, and from the discussion, it was implied the employee to whom I had been speaking had been on the job only a few days. Thumbs up on the employee selection and/or training. This is not one of my preferred Newbury Comics locations, mostly because of the crowd. But I'd certainly never turn down an opportunity to shop here. read more

There were a few sales going on at the time, so I did a bit of splurging while I was there. I suppose one shouldn't be surprised given the rather deceptive store name, but Newbury Comics in Faneuil Marketplace is no longer a good place to buy music these days. Perhaps that's a silly, outdated statement, as one probably shouldn't expect to go there for music anymore given that it's clearly more of a pop culture store. It wasn't always that way but, as it goes, times do change. When Newbury Comics was located a little further away from the Government Center hubbub on a rather discrete pedestrian side street, there was a lot more music to sift through. It was a larger space and had rows upon rows of CDs and, before it got so popular, vinyl. I enjoyed spending many a lunch break there picking through artists, seeing what was recently released, etc. Now that they've moved a little closer to the action but in a smaller space, the Newbury Comics in Faneuil Marketplace dedicates most of one room out of five or so to music. This room is split between vinyl and CD, though it's probably more of a 70/30 split given the seemingly outgoing CD medium. The rest of the store is filled with DVD/Blu-ray, t-shirts, stuffed animals, jewelry, hats, figurines, stickers, pins, magnets, posters, and indeed, comics. It's a bit of a visual whirlwind for the nearby tourists, but not much of a destination for anyone who lives in the area given that there are likely other Newbury Comics closer to where they live. So, if you are visiting Boston in an effort to buy music, don't go here. Head over to Harvard Square for some great stores, or if that's too far, go to In Your Ear on Comm Ave. Even the Newbury Comics on Newbury St. is probably a better trip. For this Newbury Comics in Fanueil Hall, drop by here only if you want pop culture items or need a quick birthday/gag gift for a friend. read more

This is a porn shop for nerds! I could spend hours in this place and a lot of money (insert take all my money meme). If you love pop figures, don't come here because they have tons of them. Great selection of comics, random funny/nerdy books. games, vinyl, action figures, the list goes on and on. They have a great selection of manga too. Stopped by on 12/17/19 for a little pre-holiday shopping. I actually went straight up to the 2nd floor. They have a good curated selection of CDs, and staffer did reach out and help me find the soundtracks--I bought "Phantom" for daughter/family friend with severe medical issues but loves when they play music. The cashier was a different staffer/efficient and check out was fine. They had a lot of trendy gifts tied to movies, TV and pop culture and also some magnets tied to Boston area, Red Line, Blue Line Subway, etc., but also a nice selection across pop culture/dark humor, zany humor, etc. It is still a great place for local music and used CD's. read more

I know, totally a tourist trap.... but it's a two story building on a popular market street that sells comics, records, Stussy clothing, Keith Haring duffle bags and assorted novelties. If you're not being pretentious it's great that places like this exist... As for the vinyl, they carry new releases and reissued pressings. I was able to figure a copy of The Smiths "Queen is Dead" 12" that has been sold out of pretty much every shop I've been to on the East Coast. The staff were helpful and engaging while being knowledgeable and busy. Apparently their other locations carry a larger assortment of LP's but I never made it to them on my short trip to Beantown. read more

It was probably a huge mistake to visit while comic con was in town huh? Well, for all I know it may just be that busy all the time. Very crowded, hard to move around, lots of pushy kids who were running around without their parents. Long checkout line. Don't expect any real sales, they have cool stuff but it all comes at the standard premium retail price. Most of the stuff I saw I knew I could get better deals elsewhere but since this is likely the only store of it's kind in the area they can price the items as they are and still make the sale. One thing that impressed me was that even though there was a large influx of people the shelves were still mostly kept in order. It wasn't an absolute mess in there. Change the name! They don't have a selection of comic books?! I went in expecting comic books everywhere but they only had a small selection. REALLY small. It reminded me more of a Spencer's than a comic book store. I was really disappointed. I did like the Doctor Who stuff but I'd like to find more comic books and books. They had tons of movies, music and stuff that Spencer's has. If you want a comic book, don't come here. New England Comics was so much better. read more
