I love coming to this quaint coffee shop whenever I need a latte fix or some caffeine to get me through the day. The barista is friendly and accommodating to any specific requests. I love their creme brûlée latte; it is much better than the Starbucks version. I've also attempted to try their green smoothie a few times, but they're usually out of one or two ingredients. The one time I was able to order one, I wasn't too impressed. The base was just ice- it would have been much better with almond milk or yogurt. The folks that run it couldn't be any nicer. Plus, the walls are donned with posters of Dylan, Miles and the Ramones, and they often play really cool tunes. We stopped in for coffee this morning and were not impressed. This is not a family friendly place. We asked if they had any juice since we have a toddler. She politely told me they did not. We ordered our coffees and a muffin. I left to put my son in the car while my wife stayed to pay and one of the "regulars" occupying the small seating area made a wise ass comment about them not having Mac and cheese. The owner joined in on the laugh interjecting with her own comment and made my wife feel very awkward. Maybe your business is a narrow offering like the sub par latte that we bought..... but you don't treat anyone coming into your shop disrespectfully. Will NEVER go back! read more

My best friend and I frequent the Wise Bean as a nice way to decompress after a long work week. My usual is an iced black and white latte. So flavorful and always seems to perk me right up. The coffee is exceptional here. It is definitely a must stop! Additionally I always find the people behind the counter to be incredibly friendly and helpful. They take time in crafting your beverage and do so with enthusiasm. I emphasize this because going there on a weekly basis, I would have expected to see some crack in this, but consistently the service is great. read more

This is probably the best coffee shop in Bethlehem, PA hands down! Fare: The place features the best espresso drinks which actually taste like espresso is supposed to taste like. The staff are obviously well-trained and make their own shots instead of relying on pre-made ones, which makes a ton of difference. In the meantime, price is not sacrificed-I am pretty sure they have the best prices around for most of their espresso drink options. The percolated coffee is a bit on the strong side, but there are usually three or more options there as well. In addition to drinks the place offers some light food including fresh scones from a local bakery in Bethlehem. Flare: Looks like a real coffee shop. Small on the inside, cozy, friendly, and usually filled with locals. Outside seating is also available. They don't accept credit/debit cards so bring cash with you. read more

My first time there the place was filled, sat outside and was served a iced dirty chai, and it was delicious! Second time I went there the staff took 10 minutes to make a simple drink and then charged me a ridiculous price of 7 dollars for the drink I was getting, she had screwed up the drink on top of it. The price she charged me was asinine and incorrect, the drink was funky, and I decided to never return. This place is definitely not a must, in fact I'd advise anyone to just skip this place all together and get coffee somewhere not as frustrating. My biggest praise for The Wise Bean is their selection of whole-bean coffees. I'm a fan of medium roasts, and they carry a number of single-origins that are great for home use. The only thing is that I went to study, but found that there isn't much table space to work on. A little less than a mile from Moravian's campus, this plave has become one of my favorite local hangouts. Prices are a bit cheaper than the campuse's starbucks and the atmosphere is much better. I have been to the wise bean 3 times. Each time I was served by a woman named Joan. Her demeanor is curt and negative. For example, when I walked into today, there were 3 men, who appeared to be regulars, near the counter. Two of the men sat down when I approached with my young son and the other man greeted us warmly. After the man in front of me was served, Joan looked and me and said, "Were these men here before you?" With an irritated tone. I was caught off guard since there no other people in line. So I looked around and said "I don't know". The men said, "serve her first, we can wait" and they seemed surprised that she even said that. So I asked if hey served almond milk and Joan said yes. "Okay so I'd like a small almond milk latte." And Joan started to grab the cup before I was finished without really making eye contact as I ordered. "Does that come with one shot or two" I said. Irritated again, Joan said "one". "Okay I'd like two shots and vanilla please". With her back to me she said "you need to tell me that up front!" To which I said "It seems like we are still at the beginning of the transaction because you haven't even made my drink yet". I said this as nicely as I could. When rang me up, Joan forgot to charge me for my extra shot so I reminded her. She said, "No I got it!" and then realized she did not, in fact, charge me correctly so she added that and said "thank you". I paid and as I walked out the men who politely let me order before them said "have a great day!" and waved to my cute son. I got better customer service from the CUSTOMERS at this shop. Joan is argumentative, terse and made me feel like a bother. This has been my experience three times. I will not return. I truly hope she can find a reason to be kind and courteous. read more

In this little refuge on New Street in Bethlehem, one can find a cup of coffee deserving of the adjective "superb." A roaster delivers fresh beans regularly; you get a specific brew, no generics here, rarely a blend: Kenya, Sumatra, Mexico, Ethiopia. The comes comes hot and fragrant, served, if you stay in the shop, in china or glass mugs that retain the heat way beyond the first few sips. Accompanying bagels and pastries are limited, but bought for freshness, locally baked, excellent. The Wise Bean, now in its 6th year, has earned its reputation for serious, but not pretentious, coffees, and welcoming service.
