My friend and I stopped into The Wise Owl for a quick bite and some drinks, and we were so pleasantly surprised by how good everything was! She ordered the Malbec and raved about how smooth and rich it was, while I tried the Owlfather--absolutely delicious! Hands down one of the best cocktails. We also shared the bruschetta and stuffed mushrooms--both were packed with flavor and perfect for snacking. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Bonus: it's conveniently located near a bunch of hotels, which makes it a perfect stop if you're visiting the area and want something local without the usual chain feel. We were staying across the street from this place and we were looking for a wine-forward happy hour option - bingo! Reasonable pricing for everything on the menu and definitely a spot for adults, which was another nice surprise. Nice selection of old world and new world. Whites, reds. They have a unique and divert wine list by the glass, most of the economical variety. Menu is small Tapas Style with some featured entries. Have the bruschetta tri of which the olive tapenade is excellent! Sandwich of the day was Jerk Chicken Burger and was also excellent! All food is fresh prepared. I like how open it is when you walk in. The community bar tables were a nice touch in the middle of the floor providing enough space in between tables. I'm no wine connoisseur, but as long as they have a Malbec, I'm good to go : ) I went in the middle of the week so it was pretty low key. This was our first visit to this establishment. My brother and his wife was home visiting. They were staying at the hotel across the street. We had been visiting with family in Cincinnati and when we were heading back, my sister in law asked if we would join them for a drink. We haven't done much since the pandemic so we said yes. We didn't know there was a jazz band performing that night. We ordered pizzas, drinks and settled back to enjoy the vibe. They were busy so the food was slow coming out but the bbq pizza was tasty. We didn't feel crowded, didn't have to jostle for space. I don't know how big the kitchen is, that could play a factor in how the kitchen functions. read more

We arrived a bit early and were told by the most personable and kind worker to sit wherever we like and he would be by to assist us. Don't get me wrong, this is in suburbia and part of a strip-mallesque center but it could not have felt less cookie-cutter or boring. This place was so fun! They had good happy hour specials and we ordered the hummus plate. All delicious. Really what set this place apart was the service. This review is a difficult one to write. 3 or 4 stars, gave it four for the friendly staff. On the one had the food was awesome! The service very friendly & I loved the space. However the food was super slow in coming out. I think they don't have enough help in the kitchen. I ordered a charcuterie board to start & I guess the bar tender didn't hear the order as he brought it out after I had finally received my entree after I asked where it was. He did comp it for me which was nice. For the entree I had a chicken breast stuff with havarti & jalapeño which was great, the spice was just right. It came with a side salad & asaragus. The wine choice was great too. I'd probably try again & give them the benefit of the doubt. read more

A few minutes later the server came by saying he would be with us shortly.... then we saw him put on his vest and leave. We'd been sitting 10 minutes at this point with no menu or anything. The decline began with the departure of the original chef/manager and they've really never recovered. The menu options are very very limited. The standout items are gone, and the quality and quantity of the rest have declined. As others point out, for a wine bar, there are very few by-the-glass choices, and no flights. And the staff is not at all knowledgeable on the subject of wine. Example: when I asked someone to tell me about a particular wine, the best she could come up with was that it was a Spanish red. I could have told you that, too, from reading the list! I've been to a few wine bars and this one no longer makes the cut. Yes, the atmosphere is swanky (unless you happen to walk in when an awkwardly-placed "private party" is going on) but atmosphere alone doesn't do it. This is a great family owned wine bar. Even though it is a wine bar they have a nice selection of beers and bourbons. It is a casual yet classy environment with a friendly group of regulars. The small bite foods like the stuffed mushrooms are very good and pair well with a nice cab. Beware! DO NOT BOOK YOUR EVENT HERE. My event was verbal.. the agreement was the total amount was for 4 hours with an hour of set up. We agreed that the time would be 4p-8p. After the event the owner tried to charge us $200 extra dollars for extra time. He said the event was from 4p-7p. Why would anyone agree to a adult event for 3 hours. Anyway on top of that he added $100 gratuity that he never discussed with us. Messy business. And the electric is glitching the lights went out 2.5 hours into the event. read more

Definitely do not recommend for events. Attempted to hold a corporate event in their private room with 40-50 people. Spoke with owner/manager in advance and requested two servers. Also sent in a list of food and wine for pre-order so that they could anticipate the need and have items ready when group arrived. Upon arrival, there were two bottles of wine (of six requested) and one charcuterie tray ready (of the many food items pre-ordered). No servers available for our group and it appeared only the owner/manager was working. While another staff member did eventually arrive, she never set foot in our room. In short, a small group of patrons at the bar received far more attention and service than our large group. I had to ask four times for water pitchers to be provided to the room. I had to continually ask for more of the food I pre-ordered to be brought out to our group--I was told to be patient because they had a small kitchen. (This is the reason we pre-ordered; one would think they would have prepared for it.) No one offered service in our private room at all unless I chased the owner down and asked him to come in and serve our guests. Wine glasses had to be requested multiple times before staff provided them. Our guests had to continually leave the private room and go to the bar to attempt to order drinks and more wine. Had we received adequate service, we probably would have spent at least twice our bill. As it was, our group left hungry, thirsty, and very disappointed. Will definitely not return. read more

Perfect atmosphere: Casually sophisticated, elegantly unassuming. Aside from wine, they have a small full bar stocked with amazing whiskeys. The service was outstanding! My dad, my husband, and I had a great time here. We stayed for hours, chatting and noshing. The food won't be awarded Michelin stars any time soon, haha! Staff was very hard working, attentive, and didn't skip a beat - even during a pandemic with limited staffing. Furthermore, food was stellar! My friend ordered the barbecue chicken pizza which he raved about, I had the cilantro lime tacos which were extremely fresh and mouthwatering, and then we shared the stuffed mushrooms with balsamic glaze along with the chicken rolls. Both were unexpected and savory in their own right. Everyone I encountered was very friendly including the nearby guests at surrounding, socially distanced tables. It's a ten for us! We have been trying to come here forever and finally got the chance a few weekends back and had a wonderful time. The manager J.T. is super passionate and honestly I couldn't believe he himself was taking care of us on a Saturday night. As soon as we walked in he greeted us with a smile ear to ear and welcomed us. Without any hesitation my friend (who's a regular) said, "JT pick us out something awesome, you know what we like!" This is that kind of place. So we followed suit and did the same. What we got was a delicious blend of merlot and tempranillo at a reasonable price that was pleasing to both the bf and I's palate. The acoustic music was great while it lasted. The only reason for leaving off the last star, if I am going to be totally honest, I just felt like something was missing decor/ambiance wise. The space feels kind of generic. Don't get me wrong the service was absolutely fantastic, I just don't know if I could see myself driving all the way up here as a destination spot. Nothing brings me greater disappointment than writing this measly 2-star review. I wanted this place to be amazing, but the fact of the matter is -- Yelp has never steered me wrong until Wise Owl. I'll start with the atmosphere. Maybe it's just my high expectations when it comes to wine bars, but this place lacked some serious character and just screamed West Chester suburbia to me. There were no cozy nooks, no fireplaces, no stone walls, no nothing. But, what it did have was crappy lighting non-conducive to photos. I guess I should've expected no different considering it's in a strip mall. Next, the service. Call me old fashioned, but when I order a bottle of wine I expect for it to be served to me -- not placed on my table unopened as if I just grabbed it off the shelf. Our server checked in on us a grand total of 3 times within a span of 3 hours, and never once refilled our water glasses. The only thing Wise Owl has going for them is the live music. We loved singing along to the cover songs of the soothing Matt Schneider, and quite honestly, that was Wise Owl's saving grace. As much as I wanted to love it, I learned my lesson and will be sticking to Hyde Park's Unwind to satisfy my wine bar cravings. read more
