I absolutely loved my experience at The Wok Shop in San Francisco. Walking in, you immediately feel like you've entered a true local gem -- shelves stacked with every kind of wok and tool you could imagine, and the kind of no-nonsense energy you only get from a place that's been doing this forever. Yes, the woman working there is straightforward -- some might even interpret it as blunt -- but honestly? It was one of the best parts of the experience. She was incredibly helpful, hilarious in her delivery, and absolutely knows her stuff. After watching customer after customer ask the same questions, I completely understood her style -- it's her shtick, and it works. She tells it like it is, gives you exactly what you need, and doesn't waste a second of your time. I left there with more wok knowledge than I ever expected to have, and the perfect pan for my kitchen. I highly recommend stopping by if you're looking for authentic tools and an experience that feels real, memorable, and uniquely San Francisco. I'll definitely be back -- sass and all! If you know you know, those complaining about her attitude just don't get it.

I read about the Wok Shop in a magazine. I did a bit of research and ordered one through their website. I am so glad that I did! Fantastic quality product at a very reasonable price. And it was delivered in less than a week after I ordered. The instructions on preparing the wok were simple and complete. They have a super website with lots of other products. Highly recommend!

I have been meaning to come here for a while. The wife and I were visiting the kid who lives in SF and we were staying nearby in the Marriott Union Square. I short walk away. The kid had to work one afternoon, so the wife and I walked around Chinatown for a bit. The place is very tight and since it was a Sunday afternoon and not too much rain, it was crowded. We squeezed around looking at the different nooks and crannies that held all types of woks, utencils, knives, bowls, chopstick, dishes, more cooking utencils, more chopsticks, woks, woks, woks, etc... As a hobbyist cook, I had a blast looking at everything. I would like to go again when less crowded and just take my time looking at everything. For this trip, I was specifically looking for some decent size soup/noodle bowls, some ceramic Asian soup spoons (large, have flat bottoms) and bamboo chopsticks. Found too many soup bowls I liked, so grabbed two different ones and was good with that. I found a couple spoons I liked and then looked for chopsticks. What I was really looking for was good bamboo ones like in a Chinese restaurant, not the crappy disposable ones you get if you order a pack from Amazon. All I could find was plastic or similar material ones. They were very nice looking, but not what I was looking for. When I asked the gentleman, he lead me to the large selection of plastic ones. Oh, well, I was happy with the bowls and spoons. See pictures. I see from other reviews that there was some comments about a rude person working there. While I was looking at knives, two girls were asking one of the women working there about what knives they should get. At one point the woman asked the girl "do you even cook, how come you know nothing about knives." She said that she cooks at home, but but her friend with her was a chef. The lady then said, "a chef that knows nothing about knives? I don't want to eat at her restaurant." It was shocking, but damned if I don't agree with the woman as she was speaking the truth! I laughed out loud when I heard that comment. It was quite entertaining. Go. Find a Wok or a Knife. HAVE FUN!

I don't cook, but my family members do. Came here with my cousin because she can't speak Chinese (don't worry they speak English here) and wanted my help to translate. She wanted to buy a wok for cooking vegetables and stir frying meat with a lid and one of those spoon things. She also wanted a bamboo steam bowl.she found everything here and more, such as chopsticks, pots, etc. She ended up buying around $200 worth of merchandise! They were generally friendly and helpful, and they give you a really cool bag with purchase.

This is a small , yet wonderful Chinese culinary tool shop. I was able to find the clay pots here that I can't find them sold anywhere else any more. I hope the shop will continue to exist as is for years to come.

    Bamboo won ton spatula
    Shirley N.

This shop is hit or miss. I've been here off and on over the years as I live in the City. Most recently I came in looking for a won ton bamboo spatula. I showed the sales person a photo of it. She immediately said no more. And that was it. She was very dismissive. Might it have been because a group of tourists on a walking tour entered the store at the same time I did? My sis came in a couple weeks afterwards. There's a whole inventory. This either meant new inventory arrived or the sales person couldn't be bothered by my need for a bamboo spatula when she could sell a wok to a tourist? To be fair I came in another time where I wanted a pricker for poking pork belly. I showed a photo. I was immediately walked over to where they were. That's why it's hit or miss.

Everything I needed to get wokin' on my own!

Friendly & knowledgeable service. They found me the right sized tools for my wok, and prices are half of amazon/online prices.

No, dear friends, this was not the case. Instead, i walked into a practically empty (as is the "less is more" style, I suppose) shop, featuring essentially one brand per genre of cookware (ie. one brand of knives, one brand of kitchen gadgets, one brand of dish ware, silverware, you get the point). Their selection of books was the only standout aspect of Le Sanctuaire for me, lining a few shelves in the back -- not really a redeeming factor, if you ask me. No worries though, because I am on the hunt for obscure spices that folks have been claiming I would definitely be able to find in this "sanctuary". Well, shocker, the "less is more" goes for their spices as well. I was unable to find one obscure spice that I was searching for. Not only that, but they carry only one brand of spices, all prepackaged, all outrageously priced, and rather underwhelming to boot. Am I disappointed? Yeah, you could say that.

We walked into their showroom in South San Francisco not knowing what to expect, and were greeted by a friendly gentleman named Bailey. Little did we know, that moment would mark the start of both a great project and a lasting connection. Bailey is professional, knowledgeable, sincere, and incredibly patient--everything you'd hope for in a salesperson. I originally was just looking for flooring at KZ but Bailey made us feel so comfortable we ended up getting pretty much everything here. One stop shop to save time and energy . He offered thoughtful advice every step of the way and was always there when we needed help. Even on his day off, he went out of his way to make sure everything was prepared for us. That level of dedication is truly top-notch. Their pricing is competitive, but for me, outstanding service makes all the difference--and Bailey delivered exactly that. If you're planning any remodeling, I highly recommend giving KZ Cabinet and Stone a try. Be sure to ask for Bailey--you won't regret it. The only negative feedback I have is the warehouse pick up staff may not be the most friendly but the job gets done.

My wife and I came in on a Sunday morning, just behind another family with older parents. Coincidentally we were both looking at bathroom vanities. A sales rep followed the other family to look at everything while we were ignored. After we made our decisions ourselves, we made our way to the front to the comp coffee machine thinking someone will come help us. Not a single rep in sight. At the coffee machine, warehouse staff were making multiple cups to pour into their thermos and coughing/sneezing all over the cups and lids. We went back to vanities without a coffee. We got back to vanities (coffee is front of the warehouse, vanities in the far back) and still not a single rep. We made this walk at least 4 times. We confirmed our decisions and we walked back to the front, again no one. At the front, I finally saw the entire sales staff doing something in a back corner so I called out if I can get some help. I apologize if I bothered them! No comments from the sales rep who helped print my order, no asking what I needed help with. He just followed us and I told him. No comments when I told him we walked for an hour without any help As we were paying, a cashier had to come from that same busy corner to take my card. As I was paying, the sales rep who was busy with the other family comes up to see what we bought. When he was working with them for a sale, we were walking back and forth around their group so I know he noticed us. Maybe he realizes he missed the sales on his record. Again, if I had other better options, I would have gone elsewhere.
