A friend was visiting from Vancouver and we were looking for a place for lunch and I had been to the Wooden Spoon and remembered I liked it so thought we would try again. All staff were great / my friend is Celtic so it's hard to eat out sometimes but the 3 servers we encountered were all well versed in how to deal with this. I follow a low carb diet so it was more difficult for me to find something to eat. I ordered the pulled pork hash on greens - it was good but super sweet unfortunately. No demerits to the Spoon for that. I could have ordered a side of bacon. My latte was good and we got to sit in the sun. read more

We came here on a whim for a Valentines Day Brunch. They were packed and my wife and I sat at the bar with Armaan as the bartender. I ordered the Spicy Dill Caesar (my American friends, get on board already) and the Ribeye Hash and my wife got the Forager Benny. First off, Armaan has a gift as a Spirit whisperer and made me the only tomato based drink I have ever liked in my life! And then the Whiskey Sour he made later had the right proportions, ingredients, and presentation of a well crafted cocktail. The food was insane. The service was professional but friendly & comfortable. And we can't wait to brunch here again. Also sorry for the empty glass pic. This used to be my favourite brunch spot but the last time we went we found it very underwhelming. Hubby had a classic breakfast and I had the seafood Benny. My family and I's go to brunch restaurant. There is usually a wait for a table, however lots of nearby stores and sometimes markets to keep you occupied. The breakfast sandwich is a great choice ! Street Parking can sometimes be a hassle to get, however the parking lot in the back of the building is always available. You do not need to pay for parking if you ask your server to register your license plate to obtain free parking only for the duration of your experience at wooden spoon! read more

Don't recall any music, tables spaced nicely to avoid overhearing conversations , unless they were talking above the average indoor voice. just wow. I love Eggs Benedict and the classic was perfect. I knew they'd be amazing when they asked if I wanted my poached eggs easy,medium or hard! No one's EVER asked me that! I usually don't care for potatoes but the ones on the side were seriously amazing and I ate every single crunchy, salted and herbed piece. When I got there, it was very busy because of the long weekend and because they had a street market where the restaurant was. Naturally, the place was busy. The establishment had a hipster aesthetic look, despite being a brunch restaurant. I ordered the Tiramisu French Toast with Coffee. The coffee was decent, and they serve it with cream in a steel bell pourer and raw brown sugar packets. The French toast practically tastes like a cake, in a great way. The vanilla espresso mascarpone was potent in palate, and it was covered in cocoa powder and cookie crumble. They also serve it with maple syrup in a steel bell as well. The waiters are admirable about their work and never neglect their customers. Overall, this is a fantastic restaurant for breakfast and lunch. After saying we didn't have a reservation, we were seated at the very back of the restaurant, far from everyone else, despite other tables and seats being available. As soon as my husband joined us, we decided to leave. I told my son not to eat at places where we are made to feel unwelcome. We are paying customers. We came on a Saturday with no reservations and got a table after around 10 minutes outside on the patio. We ordered the salmon Benedict, classic Bennedict with bacon and tiramisu French toast The eggs on the benedicts were a hit or miss. We all ordered medium but we got one egg that was hard. I wish there was more hollandaise sauce on the benedicts. I loved the scone/biscuit on the bottom. Much easier to cut than the English muffins that are usually provided with eggs benedicts. The potatoes were also nice and crispy. I like that they provide ketchup and hot sauce. The tiramisu French toast was really heavy and good for sharing between 4 people. It's not overly sweet and there's a tinge of sour in it which helps to balance it off. It was missing that much needed crunch. Either from the French toast or a topping of some sort. Nanaimo drink - I would pass on this. It didn't taste like a Nanaimo bar instead it tasted like watered down alcoholic coffee. Don't get this. Overall I thought that the brunch was not bad. I love this place and highly recommend for anyone who wants a good meal! They have so many amazing options, including vegan! It's hard to choose what to get but I'm sure it will be perfect! I got the HARVEST BURGER (Chickpea fritter, feta, mushroom duxelles, house greens, pesto, hummus, brioche bun) and added a side of their Mac! The burger is huge. You really do get the flavors of pesto and hummus (I would have liked more pesto). The bun is nice and fluffy and the fritter holds together quite well! That mac and cheese is rich and creamy. Came here with my partner for breakfast before heading to the border! I got the The Wooden Benny and my partner got the Jammin Gran French Toast because there's a deal for french toast on Tuesdays. The Wooden Benny was really good! The eggs were perfectly poached, biscuit was delicious, bacon was crispy, and hollandaise was great! The potato wedges it came with were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Every bite was a crispy and tender moment for my soft mouth. The salad was also pretty good. I liked that they used a biscuit instead of a muffin, but I wish they served it with two biscuits with an egg each instead of only one with two eggs on top. My partner's french toast was okay, but I personally didn't like the berry compote. It was too tart for me. I think they also serve it with artificial syrup. But the toast itself was soft and delicious. I would be interested to try the other flavours next time! The service from our waitress was really wonderful. We were out at White Rock last weekend as it was sunny and we wanted to enjoy the sun, view and go for a walk along the pier and promenade. We originally wanted to go grab some Greek food but the restaurant wasn't open, even though their sign says they are. We decided to come here as we were hungry. We were seated right away. The place is a nice quaint little spot, just off Johnston Rd. Our server was efficient, easy-going and had good recommendations. I got the farmhouse breakfast and my wife got the pulled pork hash. Stopped in for lunch after making it through the border. It's a nice and convenient location. They were busy on a Saturday morning and we had to wait 20 minutes for spots at the bar. The bartender was very friendly. We ordered poutine and the smoked meat sandwich. Both were great! The poutine was nice and hearty and just the comfort food you might be looking for! What a gem & the whole staff was so nice, warm, friendly & welcoming! My friend and I left Vancouver Monday Dec 9, 2024. The morning after Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. After everywhere in Vancouver was no wait but post hotel check out everything suddenly had lines around the block and more than an hour wait! While I sat in my car trying to find someplace in Surrey knowing it was an hour away & we could make a reservation & get some distance down, I stumbled upon this spot. I called, left a message for a reservation about 12:30 & hoped for the best. My call returned not too long later more than happy to have a spot ready for us. I chatted with a fellow outside walking his doodle and someone from the wait staff came to check if we needed anything. I said I had the reservation & would be in promptly even 15min early, they were ready for us. Having TS sweatshirt on, 2 girls couldn't wait to chat & ask how it was. They were just so sweet! My friend & her daughter arrived, order placed, allergies/sensitivities asked, and we were on! The girls came back and exchanged bracelets with the child which made her light up & so excited! Our food was excellent, the mimosas encouraged, coffee good. It was perfect! They didn't rush us and encouraged us to sit out the border wait for one more mimosa (clearly our kind of gals)! While we sat at a larger table in the front, it was still warm & pleasant. We were asked if it was ok for them to seat a solo eater at the end which we welcomed. All in all, I'll keeep this on my radar for a return someday. Again, while the food & drink were delicious and amazing, the staff was excellent! Thank you so much! My friends and I were visiting British Columbia for the day and we had a lovely meal here. Our waitress, Jessica, was amazing. She answered all of our questions about the menu, especially the Caesars. We thought they were salads, turns out they are cocktails. I had a mango based Caesar that was delicious, then our wonderful waitress brought out a taster of a Caesar that was like an American Bloody Mary. Also delicious, and so nice of her! For our main courses my friend and I had the vegetable hash that was phenomenal! The veggies were flavorful, and it was a fun healthy meal. I had the vegan version with avocado and couldn't have been happier. My friend opted for scrambled eggs with hers, also delicious. Since I was in Canada I had to have poutine. It was alright, but a little too salty for my taste. Fortunately with the veggie hash I had more than enough delicious food. Overall a great place to have a meal after a day of exploring. read more

The Wooden Spoon, located in far away Whiterock, is just the spot for brunch when you're waaaayyyyyyy over this side! Got lucky weather wise, with a short break of sunshine after being drowned in rain for days this month. Located just off the high street (Johnston) on Russell Ave, use your map finder to avoid getting lost. The menu items do come out smaller on the plate so be aware - this is not like eating at OEB or the Jam Café! The menu is based on a 'farm to table' theme, as seems to be the 'de rigueur du jour' these days. Do make reservations as this is a small restaurant, or you will be waiting a long time to get in. I found the dishes to be fresh & healthy tasting = I needed to add hot sauce to mine to spice things up! LOL! We had two Benny's - the Bay (Cajun Prawns) & The Sweet & Salty. See pix. If only the WS could have been located at the beach, it would have made it more appealing to stay longer. Oh well, one comes here to eat then take off towards the White Rock Promenade at Marine Drive, for a nice beach side walk. Came here for brunch with a friend, and surprisingly we were underwhelmed... I love that you can call ahead and make a reservation over the phone. I called ahead as we were heading out, and they were kind enough to put me down for party of two at 12:30. We arrived and were promptly seated. They have a decent outdoor seating area in the front, and I think there may be a patio in the back as well, as I saw some diners heading out from inside. Their brunch menu has a pretty good selection, with bennies, sandwiches, cast iron specials, french toast, etc. I went with the The Spoon ($17.95), which is slow braised pork with herb potatoes, cheese curds, home style gravy, hollandaise, and two sunny eggs. I chose to add avocado for $3.95 as well. I'm not a fan of cheese curds or hollandaise sauce, so I asked for both to not be added. We waited a loooooong time for our food. We got seated and ordered around 12:40, and we didn't get our food until 1:20... That's almost a 40 minute wait! The Spoon was pretty good. The slow braised pork was soft and mixed well in my mouth with the potatoes and the eggs. I was expecting a little bit more for one of the most popular brunch dishes here though, so I felt a bit underwhelmed. I also found some cheese curds in my dish even though I asked for it to not be included.. My friend ordered veggie frittata ($16.95), and thought it was just okay. It's a bit on the pricey side given that my pork dish was only a dollar more. He didn't like that his coffee was also cold when it was served. When it time to pay, I saw the extra charge for the avocado, and that's when I realized they forgot to put it on my dish. That's two things they screwed up, adding the cheese curds and forgetting the avocado. I was initially really excited about this meal, since they were nice enough to put our name down over the phone, but the rest of the service after we arrived and the food itself were both lackluster. Parking wasn't too hard to find. There weren't any street parking spots free on the same street as the restaurant, but we were able to find a free spot around the corner. read more

I really, really, really wish that something like this existed when I actually lived in White Rock. The cocktails were fantastic, the food quality is outstanding, and I am so excited that they're going to start preparing dinner. I actually might hire a babysitter just to go and eat there at night. What a gem of a place..... The person who seated us seemed a little unwelcoming but everything after that was absolutely FANTASTIC !! Ordered Drip Coffee with steamed milk, The Early Riser Breakfast Sandwich with Fries. The coffee was nice and hot and asked for steamed milk which they happily provided in a cute small mason jar (see photo), the taste of the coffee on a cold day really hit the spot.. The breakfast sandwich was done perfectly with bacon and eggs and cheese... what a delight.. The ambience was good but our hostess was above and beyond. It was savoury and sweet and it just worked really well! The bottom piece is a bit sweeter since it soaks up more of the maple syrup but that's fine with me! It's what you should order if you can't decide between French toast or a benny. The 2 pieces of crispy bacon sealed the deal. The Spoon was almost as delicious with flavourful pulled pork and herbed potatoes, hollandaise and 2 sunny side eggs. This restaurant has been on my to-try list for quite awhile but past attempts to dine at The Wooden Spoon were thwarted thanks to long waits and clashes in my schedule. The other Sunday, I was determined to have brunch here with the boyfriend, no matter how long the wait! Thankfully, the wait was not as long as I had feared: just shy of 30 minutes. Although we didn't take advantage of this option, I was happy to see we could have called ahead and put our names down on the list to cut down on some of the wait time. The restaurant would call us when our table was ready, which allowed us to walk around the neighbourhood and explore the Farmer's Market just outside their door. Would it be okay for us to sit outside on the patio if those tables became available first? Given the warm and sunny weather on that day? Of course! We ended up being seated at the patio area right next to the front door on the high chairs. It did turn out a touch awkward carrying on a conversation while watching customers come and go so close to us (granted, the price we pay for agreeing to sit at the first available table). We were given our own cutlery plus cups and own bottle of water refill and in all honesty I was just happy to finally have a chance to eat here. After much deliberation, the boyfriend chose the Spoon Cast Iron Crushable with a side of Jalapeño-Cheddar Corn Bread and I settled on The Wooden Benny. The place was consistently full (keeping in mind with COVID restrictions) and it did feel like our food was taking a little longer to arrive. I didn't mind too much as the day was nice and we weren't in a huge hurry. When our food arrived, I don't ever recall having caramelized onions (swear there were apples in there too) with eggs Benedict, but I really liked the touch. The buttermilk biscuit (at first I thought it was cornbread based on the consistency) was a departure from the usual English Muffin and I'm still trying to decide which I like better. I found I preferred the Jalapeño-Cheddar Corn Bread more: a little spicy kick paired with delicious cheddar. Surprising I enjoyed it so much as I usually have a low spiciness tolerance! Overall, this was a solid choice for brunch. The food was good, a decent wait, I might have enjoyed it more if we weren't seated right beside the front door. The food seemed a bit slow to arrive, but I will chalk it up to the busyness of the restaurant. It gets very busy here, especially on weekends. I recommend making a reservation if you can, as the wait times can go onwards to 45 minutes.
