Both of us were very impressed by the outdoor space, and I was impressed by the "cheap" cans of beer. (I'm from North Carolina and $3 for a 12 oz can is NOT cheap.) So this was my second time here. Let me start with the things I like. The music! There is such a great vibe no matter the crowd. Love the outdoor area and the food truck! Since the last time I was here they have added maple bacon to the menu I did not try it for fear I would not be able to stop at one! What I do not like.... They let waaaaayyy too many people in -what's the use of playing great music when there is no room to dance. Also the outside closes at 3am and the inside closes at 4am. This makes no sense you are making an already crowded space even worse. And the bouncers are very loud, angry and rude as they demand you go inside at 3am. I'm okay with the Woods for several reasons: strong drinks in pint glasses (think Whiskey Brooklyn), some rare musical gems that don't exactly copy the Beauty Bar playlist, short bathroom lines, food (taco truck), patio, good looking crowd and REALLY NICE bartenders! It's extremely hard to find a place in Williamsburg with two or more of these qualities and I'm shocked that I found all of these and more under one roof. Went there on a Saturday night, there's no line around 11, but get there by 1 am then you gon have to wait. Music was hipster nonsense then turned tbt hip hop and tbt top 40s- this got people dancing. Oh yeeaaahh. Drinks are creative and not too expensive. I really want to give this place 4 stars but I can't. The place is cool. Drinks are reasonably prized and the DJ is pretty good. I was there on Friday, 12/20. My friends and I just had one big issue: the only female bartender. I'm not sure what her problem was but she should not be bar tending, at The Woods or anywhere. She was rude, a tad spacey and kept getting into arguments with the customers. We stayed because we were celebrating a friend's birthday and were not going to let her ruin our night. This place was packed on Saturday night. A $5 cover charge gets you into super charged venue with a great dj playing old school hip hop and R&B. The venue host a mixed crowd of mid 20's to early 40's patrons who danced the night away. They have another bar section across the backyard where it's a bit more calm and the music is more of a alternative/rock variety. I went to a surprise birthday party on a Friday night that was being thrown on the back patio. It was fine at around 10pm but an hour later it was wall to wall hipsters. Then the security at the front wouldn't let the birthday boy in because he wasn't dressed like a hipster. The bartenders are rude and the line for the bathroom is always a mile long. If I could I would give this place 0 stars it would have gotten a 0 Felt so bad at the fact that they let me in and as I'm waiting inside I see that my boyfriend and his friend are having a hard time getting in. I come out and ask what is the problem my boyfriend tells me that they aren't letting them in on account that the "manager" called the bouncer on the ear piece saying that they weren't allowed in. 2 mins later they let at least 4 white guys in it felt like they didn't let my boyfriend and his friend in bc they are Hispanic. Visiting from California and a friend recommended we check this place out. Unfortunately the experience was not promising and very disappointing all thanks to the moody and very annoyed bartender. If you've ever been to Portland, OR, you will feel like you've been transported to the Pacific Northwest. The wooden interior of the bar and the large picnic table ladened backyard are so PNW. Hence why I love it so much. And when I thought I couldn't love this PBR bar anymore than I already do... I discovered their pork-sicles. How does this place have such a low average review - the Woods is a fantastic choice for dancing on a Saturday night in Williamsburg! The DJ knew his stuff and played a good variety of hip-hop, dancehall, pop, and R&B music from across the decades to keep the party going. The Woods offers not only a decent-sized dance floor, but a nice variety of beers and drinks beyond the typical Bud, Coors, and Blue Moon. For example, I managed to get a whiskey/iced tea cocktail, and without much wait either. The $5-10 cover is always a bummer, but really, that's my only complaint. I like this place. It gets crowded after a certain hour on Saturdays. They have these drink specials listed on chalkboards behind the bar, most of them a set price (under 9$) for a shot & a beer. One of my absolute favorite weekend evening bars in the city. Good DJs blasting tunes to dance to and cool people just looking to have a good time. Out back there's a taco truck, which, by 2AM you're going to be happy is there. Inside the drinks are cheap and most of the bartenders are fast and helpful. Pickleback shots are one of their specialties, and they happen to be my favorite. My only word of advice, go there with a crowd and get there before 11:30.
