I went here on a Friday night. I heard the taco stand in the back was awesome. Tried a steak taco. It sucked. Over cooked meat and stale chewy tortilla. Not fresh at all. Worth 25 cents. Costs $3-$5 or something. Too drunk to know for sure. Would have been better with sour cream. None provided. The bar scene was a little thin. This place is new so the jury is still out, I suppose, but tonight it's 1.5 stars out of 5. They're playing ELO's Evil Woman now so they just got an extra star. read more

Spacious and nicely designed bar, well done but not overdone, with an awesome patio, a decent dj, and mixed crew. If you are one of these dissafected folks that grunt about hipsters, you may not like it -- unless of course if you are willing to make an exception with *cute* hipsters. In such case you will tolerate it very well. A few affordable drinking options are available for damaged wallets, and a fully stocked bar awaits spoiled ones. There is a taco truck in the patio with ridiculously good grub. After trying most of the non-vegetarian tacos, I have a hard time deciding which one I like best. One last thing: the pickleback ... I like high octanage vodka and pickles, but whisky and pickle juice didn't work for me. read more

I think I would have really liked this place on a different night. They have several cheap drink combo specials, and a huge outdoor space with a TACO TRUCK. I think the best part of my evening, however, was my visit to the taco truck. It was EXCESSIVELY crowded when I was there, to the point where no one could actually move without pushing someone else out of the way. This is not my idea of a good time. The crowd seemed decent (save a few dudebros trying relentlessly to take someone-ANYONE-home) but I hated them all for stepping on my feet. This place is a Friday night God. Anytime you have nothing to do on a Friday - go to The Woods. Were you born in the 80s? Do you want to goto a bar that places TLC and Toto and everything in between? I strongly advise against The Woods. Their bouncers are disgusting. I've never felt so humiliated for being a woman and an immigrant. The two huge bouncers FORCIBLY PUSHED me out of the bar for wanting to talk to the manager. I got there and showed my NYC ID (which is a legal document that I needed to get in a waiting list, show proof of residence, passport and visa to get) and they said they didn't take it. I explained that and that I never had trouble ANYWHERE else in the city, drinking or getting in. Nonetheless they were super rude while they said I needed a state ID. I said that I'm an international student and I don't/can't have one. They proceed to say I could only get in with my passport. So I explained that as any resident alien I don't walk around with my passport as it's so valuable and I need it to stay in the country. I asked if my brazillian ID and a copy of my passport on my phone could do. They rudely said no, only my passport. Is it really that a club in the most international city in the world does not take any international people?? (Because none in them in their right mind would carry their passport on a night out!) I politely asked to speak with the manager and they REFUSED to call him. It was absurd! Without raising my voice I said I wouldn't leave until the manager was called as I had the right to talk to him. One of them proceeded to PUSH ME FORCIBLY until I was outside. It was the worst experience I had in a bar/club in the city. read more

Times been: Numerous Times of weeks: All days The woods is a large bar with a big open patio and a food stand out back. The booze and food are both reasonably priced and when its warm enough the patio outback is a great place to have a quick dinner or hang out and drink to the niose poetry that is the JMZ. On the weekends the Woods can get packed and the music can be blaringly loud but the patio provides a great escape and there's always room to lean outside even when its packed. During the week is a definitely tamer but there're still enough people there to feel active. read more

The night we went it was raining, which might have put a damper on what could have been on the patio...but, either way, it's a cool place. Because it was rainy everyone was jammed inside or under the shelter in the back outside. The bathroom really is unfortunately placed, as the line slinks out into where people are standing around and talking. I remember standing in line waiting while someone behind me petted my shoulder which in retrospect is obviously very creepy, but at the moment I didn't even care, that's gotta be a plus for the bar in some twisted way, right? A few whiskey shots paired with beers and you'll find yourself dancing to a variety of hits from the Stones to Snoop Dogg, lighting the wrong end of a cigarette on the large outdoor patio, curing midnight hunger at the taco stand, dancing some more, and while waiting in the lengthy line for the co-ed bathrooms, drunken nausea will pull you out of the line, stumbling out the bar and walking straight into a cab without saying goodbye to any of your friends. read more

Great music, good drinks, sweet outside space. Wish I could've stayed later because I got the feeling it really amps up in the later hours. Minus one star because the back bar was closed, and another because I wasn't told I'd be charged a fee for using my credit card at the main bar. Why would you do that? If I'd known I would have paid in cash; if there was a minimum for cards it must be pretty high because my check was over $15, but even if that's the case, why not just tell me that? Knowledge is power. Struck me as shady and left a bad taste in my mouth with what was otherwise a fun night. The addition of heat lamps on the patio means that i'm 75% more likely to go out when it's below freezing (like last night!). Plus they have a quesadilla/taco stand in the back, decently priced drink specials, a big dance floor, and a stage. And Wednesdays are gay nights! This place has very bad management. Theres a place for coat check but no one standing there to take your coats so you just see coats lying around everywhere in the bar. Bouncers walking around have attitude and look like they hate their life. The outdoor smoking section closes early and they ask u to smoke outside in the street. The food truck section has too many heaters which makes it impossible to enjoy your food or hang out. On the other hand, the outdoor section has no heaters so u have to freeze to death when hanging out outside then sweat when u go inside. read more

Then out the back door leads to an outdoor seating area which also leads to another enclosed area with a bar and antique video games. The drinks were okay and the DJ was pretty good. Well...I hate to do this...but, I used to LOVE The Woods. I came here probably twice a month for the past year because I enjoy dancing on the weekends here and the vibe is usually good. But last night, my friend (who has been here before multiple times) who is 24 years old, was denied by the bouncer because "her South Carolina ID looked fake." She tried to calmly explain to him that she is indeed 24 and would call the police to verify if needed and he told her to "shut up" and stop talking because there's no chance she's coming in. SHE's 24 and was completely sober. It literally ruined all of our plans for the night because we were waiting on line for a long time and were meeting our friends from out of town. The management needs to be aware that the bouncers they are paying are rude and incompetent at doing their job properly. I used to be a loyal Woods visitor but not anymore :( This was unacceptable and no one answered the phone or was willing to help / even be polite. I am very disappointed. read more

I'm looking forward to planning my next get-together here! The space is awesome! It's spacious, half indoor with air-conditioning and the other half is outdoor with plenty of seating. There's plenty of parking. Its close to the Williamsburg bridge so my friends outside of BK have no more excuses...and now its time to mention the BACON!!! They serve thick yet slightly crispy bacon that's marinated in a maple syrup sauce by itself on a stick, in a BLT or have it in a taco! Yummy!! I ordered extra to go :) Just take your time with the Vodka Spiked lemonade because its so tasty, you will be back for more and forget about the effects of vodka! read more

We didn't try the bar's actual food, just the cheap Mexican stand out back. I am convinced that the cheaper and dirtier a Mexican place looks, the more authentic and delicious it probably is. I was pretty full though so I just got the chipotle chicken taco. Delicious. If I had been tipsy I would probably be scarfing down three more of these and/or a burrito. My friend then proceeded to order us $6 Tequila + Tecate shots which are dangerously cheap and strong (tequila always messes me up without fail) and 5 min later I was at a happy buzz. I'm not a one shot wonder but tequila's always got a peculiarly stronger effect on me. It was a weeknight though so it was a bit empty. I really like this place!! The people are fun, the drinks are cheap, there is a fun outdoor patio, and there is dancing! So it has everything you need. It's also quite spacious and has a nice ambiance. The best thing here is definitely the pickle shots. It's a shot of whiskey with a pickle juice chaser. I know it sounds weird but trust. Been here twice....the bartenders are pretty cool and the set up reminded me of Union Pool. There is also food in the back patio as well. I loved the music. It was a weird mash up between hip hop, 80's hits, rock, etc. Lots of variety! There's a $20 minimum on cards if I remember and they also have the pickleback which is picklejuice and whiskey which I'd recommend if you're a pickle fiend like moi. I rated it three stars b/c I didn't have an amazing time but it was standard not too horrible but not some place I'd rave about. I couldn't help but compare it to Union Pool though and I think I prefer the latter a bit better. But overall I'd say everyone should give this place a shot! I might give an update b/c I've only been here during the beginning of the night and I think coming here at around 11 or 12 may change my initial review. read more
