As usual crowded on St Patrick's but we had a reservation to avoid the huge wait. Ordered some beers and an Irish Coffee (contains Whiskey) for the table. While waiting for my drinks I asked the older bartender if I had done anything to offend him to which he responded, "No, stupid questions get stupid answers". Not too long after, he was very obviously pointing at me and talking to the other bartender so I asked why and he said that we had to leave after we finish our drinks with reason why just that we had to leave. I asked why and also asked if he was being racist. He gleefully responded yes. After we left he chased us away from the front of the bar, screaming slurs no one should have to hear. This should tell you all you need to know.

Happy hour prices are solid, and the fried pickles we shared were decent. I also had a watermelon cocktail that was refreshing and perfectly fine, if not particularly memorable. Service was a bit inconsistent. The bartender wasn't very warm or welcoming to us initially, though that changed once our friend--who is a regular--arrived. Overall, it's a comfortable spot to meet friends and hang out for a few hours, especially on a weekday like Thursday. That said, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return, but I can see why it works well as a local neighborhood hang.

Not too crowded, the wait for a pool table was about 30 minutes, enough for a quick round of shuffleboarding. The games are relatively cheap, and there's so much variety, ping pong and board games. The live jazz is really what sets this place apart from the other pool halls, starting around 7 pm with what seems like maybe the house band and I think they have guests later in the night. It's the perfect atmosphere, fun lighting, lots of grungy writing on the walls, good indie music from the 2010s before the jazz starts. Plus the spacing of the tables is good so you're not constantly bumping into other players, which is a pet peeve of mine. This basement used to house Fat Cat, a longtime West Village institution that shut down right before the pandemic, and before that the room itself was a bowling alley, tucked into a 1932 Art Deco building a few steps from Stonewall. Drink selection isn't the draw here, don't come expecting a deep cocktail list. Crowd skews heavily undergrad, and the place is loud, so it's not the spot for an intimate one-on-one or a real group conversation. It's built for a different kind of hang: elbow your way to a table, keep your hands busy, let the noise do the rest. There's also live jazz most nights, which adds a nice layer if you catch it at the right time. Neat place, just know what you're walking into.

After a fun drink off their menu I got a scotch. Old Putney 12 year. Actually the bartender came up and said they were out, would I want a 18 year or 20 year, something like that. it was a bit more money but it was he last beverage of the weekend trip so I got it. My Lourd it was good. If we had time I would have gotten an Oban they had, but we were off. But we will be back, maybe this year. And if I have racked up enough points in the area, I will suggest this excellent whisky bar.

Rich, buttery, decadent and literally melting in my mouth. The tart pickles were working overtime like the defensive line trying to stop all that Wagyu fat. Washed it down with the refreshing Yuzu Mugirita--shochu, yuzu, shiso and plum salt--and finished upstairs with their insanely thick and creamy Hokkaido Milk Soft Serve. Listen... this isn't ice cream. This is dairy operating at a higher level. Then it was time to head downstairs to Sip, a dark, intimate lounge inspired by a Japanese naval ship where the cocktails get seriously creative. Ordered the legendary Electric Chicken--extra-crispy, heavily seasoned fried chicken served with rubber gloves and scissors. Yes, gloves AND scissors. Apparently eating chicken normally was too easy. But honestly? One of the best pieces of fried chicken I've ever had. And then came the famous Tomato Tree cocktail. Strong tomato flavor in the absolute best way possible and easily one of my favorite drinks of the night. Sip & Guzzle absolutely lives up to the hype. Either way, the bar was not crowded yet and he straight up ignored us. For a while. We left. Drinks are made with the cheapest of booze and served in plastic cups. Based on the quality, the prices are high, even for the neighborhood. Despite the drinks and despite the crappy service on the second visit, we will likely come back the next time we're in town in hopes of finding a bartender who understands the job. It's near other stuff we like, and the music and vibes were that good on the first night. And if it sucks again, there's like a thousand other places in walking distance.

If you're reading this page to see whether The Woods is, "worth it"...It's NOT. Please run away. If you're a girl and want to be grinded upon from enter to exit, go for it. If you're a guy and want to get racially profiled, GO FOR IT! It was the biggest disappointment after paying to attend a NYE event. Not only was the physicial space disgusting, gross, and full of broken glass, but everyone was packed in like sardines and the dance floor was absolutely disgusting (unless you enjoy not being able to move whilst random guys grind on anything that moves). To top it all off, a member of our group was singled out buy a group of 6 men and one girl (see what I said before?) for allegedly "grabbing her ass." Mind you, the guy is married, to me, his wife. We all only had 1 drink so far, and we were Snapchatting in the corner of the bar. The girl who obviously had a little too much to drink, points to my husband while her boyfriend is behind her with his friends egging her on. The bouncers knew how ridiculous this whole situation was. BUT, let me quote "SHE'S RELATED TO THE OWNER" And, "WE HAD A BAD YELP REVIEW LAST WEEK from a girl getting her ass grabbed, so we have to throw you out. We know you didn't do it. Sorry." While I am all for women's rights and protecting women in disgusting places like this, it is 100% unreasonable for a girl to just go around pointing to get people thrown out, without hearing the entire story and at the same time HAVING to be thrown out because 1) she's related to the owner and 2) they had a bad yelp review. Boo hoo. Here's another :) I was with my husband (mind you a 27 year old USMC Officer Veteran) and our friends the whole time. This place needs to be shown in it's true light. Shame on them. I urgue you to read all of the negative reviews of this place, as this complaint of bigotry and profiling is not unique. Choose a better place to give your $$$. read more

Come here if you want to support the biggest, typical @sshole, capitalist, rude, nyc-real estate shmucks in existence. They have a reputation for a reason. The Woods is LOUD--like ear bleeding loud. Fine if that's what you gets you off. Located in a residential neighborhood, the owners absolutely refuse to turn down their sonic bass --at all-- until the nightclub closes at 4 AM. After midnight, they could turn down just the bass; they could put the speakers off the floor, they could add any kind of cheap sound proofing. But not only do they flip off all the local residents, they also encourage their patrons to scream in the streets like its Mardi Gras ALL NIGHT LONG just to confirm their hatred of the community. They have been repeatedly asked to respect their neighbors by all the surrounding buildings. The police are called almost every night by someone trying not to go crazy with having thumping bass move through their chest as they try to sleep for work the next morning. Neighbors are banning together to check the zoning regulations, whether this is a bar or a nightclub?, calling liquor licensing bureaus, etc. because instead of being decent human beings, The Woods would rather be one more arrogant prick landlord/owner in the city. read more

This place is everything thats wrong with NYC. My friends and I are only let in because we look like locals, which is cool at first not waiting. Sad news, the only people inside are bridge and tunnel trash. How they found their way from Manhattan is beyond me. The prices are shit, the lines for drinks are endless and if you need to use the restroom just do it by the river, your never getting to a toilet. Giant security guards wonder around all night flashing their lights all over the place to make sure no one is having actual fun. But ignore giant puddles of drinks in the floor and seats. CLASSY! Why they serve shitty food in the back yard and not more alcohol is utterly beyond me. Its the same old shitty music as the radio, nothing original what so ever, and did I mention how much many trashy assholes are their. TONS! AVOID at all costs. In fact avoid Williamsburg on the weekend at all costs, its as shitty as Manhattan is on the weekends. Our city is a dirty whore for classless trash to vomit all over, and we can side step on way to brunch the next day. read more

Dance your ass off and mingle Grab a smoke outside or some fresh air Grab some more drinks (and shots...) chill at a table Soak up your drunken stupor with tacos, amazing grilled cheese, smothered tots Make your way to the restroom Now repeat, in whatever order :) It's a one-stop spot, you've got your bar experience, dance club vibes, Dj, security, awesome outdoor/back area with tables and another bar followed by this great little food station with homemade tacos and good ol' American fried goodness! Place was packed but you never felt that way because it's easy to flow to another vibe in another section. Demographic is youngish 20's to 30's. Music is pop/hiphop/old school. 0 STARS. IF YOU LIKE ROACHES GO TO THE WOODS. I SAW OVER 10 ROACHES ON THE BAR OUTSIDE CRAWLING IN AND OUT OF THE WOOD. I loved this place until I realized the roach infestation. Yes we get it, it's in New York HOWEVER, people are not aware of the amount of roaches that are crawling on the table tops and bar. Please for your own good help get this place shut down, cleaned and hopefully reopened! As a native New Yorker this is not just New York. Especially for a cover charge and very expensive food menu I'd appreciate if there weren't the probable existence of roach eggs in my food. If you do not believe me please go visit and sit near the corner of the food area and small transition into the outside bar and look under the bar top where the lights meet to witness the roaches at play all night! I recently visited this bar with my friends and had an amazing time! The cocktails on tap were definitely a highlight - they were creative, flavorful, and perfectly mixed. My favorites are Spicy Dead Lady and the Spicy Marg, yes, I'm a mezcal and tequila gal. We also loved the backyard area, which had a second bar, plenty of seating and different music playing. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had a great experience. The food was delicious ( Domingo's). I had to have the churros and it did not disappoint. I'm already planning my next visit and can't wait to see what events they have coming up. Overall, this is a must-visit spot in Williamsburg, for anyone looking for great drinks, food, and atmosphere. Highly recommend! read more

This place is toxic. I have come for many bdays and would love to keep recommending as I have in the past but whatever person was here for Halloween- For the DJ had his gf and her friends came out of doing drugs right in front of me not to mention calling me names o could never repeat as well as accosting my husband who is a broadway performer as myself in the film industry who was with high end executives. They then came out of the dj booth to tell me it was their private party which doubt because we bought tickets to be in there l. Will be reporting this business as a toxic environment and personally making sure no one of value ever returns until this kind of work environment is removed. read more

ABUSIVE BOUNCERS: When we arrived we witnessed an older gentleman being shoved out of the bar aggressively. We thought nothing of it. Later that night, the largest of bouncers shoved me and a friend as we were walking through the glass door. When we asked nicely why we were pushed the response was "Shut the fuck up white boy". Surprised by the physicality of the situation and the sudden racism we made it clear we didn't think it was appropriate or even legal. He stood up to us and continued to shove us and we did the best we could to remove ourselves and walk away only to be pushed by another bouncer. This a lawsuit waiting to happen with these bouncers. Two stars because the food was good. the people were diverse, and okay I guess. but mostly I didn't like the vibe here. I liked the drinks, but the bar was a bit slow =/ There were two deejays, neither of which had the right rhythm or flow. one was too fast one was too slow and basically would go from hip hop to alternative randomly. now I'm all for mixing music tastes but they had no flow. there was ONE good lead/mix out of their whole set: the sir mixalot/Nicki Minaj but that was pretty much handed to them. This place really is divided up into 2 different worlds. My party got there early to claim a section outside in the back, drank and ate our way through the night. The BBQ back there is absolutely incredible and very uniquely done. But yes, the inside turns pretty much into an overpacked, sweaty, 20 minute bathroom line kind of club after a certain point. Seems fun despite not entirely being my style...I like being able to chat with people, not grind up on a bunch of dudes. When we left, there was a huge line outside. Really fun place. My friends dragged me here, and I simply loved it. The outside space was great and the whole wooden benches and ambiance is great and very chill. Music was good too.. i was a bit tipsy so didnt mind that it was so packed but that can be a turnoff for some, and taking half starts for that. They just need to have better crowd control. And second half star Im taking off due to bathroom lines, and they werent in "usable" shape. But I guess thats sort of the way it is with Woods, and you just become a fan and keep going there esp during summer.. I became a fan and will be going for a 5th time this summer:) read more

This place is racist. (Think Limelight from back in the day.). I've seen them block three Latinos from entrance because "Too many guys," yet immediately let in 7 WASP guys right behind them. The Woods is in the new Williamsburg to service light-skinned gentrifiers and blocks people darker than a paper bag from entering the door. The cowardly manager/owner even denied who he was when I approached him! Trust-fund babies in Brooklyn are clearly comfortable enough listening to Brown people's music without actual Brown people around to keep this shameful establishment around. read more

ok so I tried the woods again, I want to like it, I really do. I went with a friend who just moved to the south side. There was about 8 people inside the whole place and it still took the bartender 10 minutes serve us. (I guess the bankers down the end of the bar would tip better then a unemployed artist) We moved out for a smoke, I got 2 chicken tacos I guess I wasn't drunk to make them taste any better then last time, small & flavorless. Can someone please open a decent bar on the southside so I don't to walk all the way to union pool. read more

The first RACIST venue I've seen and it's in Brooklyn NY.. Came here with a friend and the bouncer told us his manager paged him and said he can't let no more of "US"in the venue now take note their were two more black guys on line they also told that the couldn't come in but 4 white males behind us in the line walked right in when I ask the bouncer if it's because of my skin tone he said he can't discuss it management calls the shot I guess they filled the quota for the night..I signed up to yelp to voice this... It has the most racist bodyguard at entrance I have ever seen. Dont be shocked if they ask where you are from. Plus they asked my friend where did he get his driver licence and the second question was how he get driver licence. Oh no thats not finish yet after they refused to let him in, the next sentence I have heard was " welcome to The Woods " from the bodyguard. I think this is his first job in his entire life. This place is a lot of fun! I came here on a Saturday night with some friends after having dinner in the area. We were unaware of the cover charge but chose to check it out anyway. There's plenty of room inside; there's an indoor bar with a live DJ as well as an outside garden. The outdoor bar area was pretty big, although it was so difficult to breathe with everyone smoking around me. Drinks were very strong! I'd definitely go again, despite the cover charge. Friday night = the greatest concentration of ugly people per square foot old school music go if you are either drunk or under serious influence of substances...or, if you dont like to dress up, and is all about jumping and dancing like nobodys watching to old tunes. But I just received some BAD NEWS - the Taco stand (Alejandro & Maria Martinez) has been shut down. I am not sure what happened but I am very disappointed. They used to make the best Tacos is town. Homophobic bar. Was turned away because we did not have any females in our group of 4. Bouncer assaulted one of us, trashy. Have been looking at other reviews and it appears they physically reject people from the bar. So many better options out there, avoid at all cost. read more

There's plenty of seating, and it feels very warm and cozy within. Ordering at the bar took a little while, but the bartender was very friendly and once I had the drinks, it was a great space to relax within. We had some of the ciders, which were a great flavor and taste. I also loved the decor behind the bar and also throughout the building. There's a yellow, comforting warmth throughout the space, something that I loved on a cold winter evening. If you want a chill space with excellent vibes and a warm atmosphere, Skinny Dennis is definitely the spot for you. I think they also have live music frequently - no one was performing while we were there, although I did notice someone beginning to set-up just as we were heading out. I highly recommend!

I'm not sure if we just got lucky or if the talent is always that good but the two bands we saw were both so great in their own way. There's a great variety of genres and clientele. Finding seating in the main front area can be tough but there was plenty of seating in the music area and the back porch. This is the kind of place I want to become a regular at!

So awesome and kind. If the owner sees this again and deletes my review about how the bouncer AL is very homophobic and kicking people out calling them faggots, and kicking me out for asking me questions. I'll be posting more places,, love this spot would hate to do that but this homophobic bouncer AL must be fired, as a fellow bartender this behavior is unacceptable.
