i have been to the woods twice... it is certianly a more polished version of union pool. you can dance, drink cheaply and make out. the two nights i have been, the music was awful. on a sat night at 2am the dj played Sweet Caroline and everyone in the bar was screaming the lyrics. to me that's despicable, and i'm not sure i would go back. read more

This place used to be a nice place to go to have a few drinks and relax. The only good thing about this place is the bartenders other than that the place is a sweat box with no ventilation. I have been going to the woods since it opened and slowly watched it go downhill. First off the lady that used to make taco's and burrito's left and was replaced by some health food garbage. Second off the bouncers all have attitude problems, they don't even want to hear your side of the story, its their way or the highway. Third I can sense they are trying to give it a more club kind of vibe. the time I went before last they wouldn't let us in because they said they were only letting girls in. I went there last Saturday with some coworkers within 10 minutes I spent 100 bucks, 10 minutes later I was getting kicked out and I have no idea why. I asked the bouncer what happened and his reply was " you got to go and that's that" . I am actually glad now that I got kicked out because I would up finding a better place, with a more relaxed vibe. read more

Place was decent with a nice brooklyn vibe and fun ppl all around. It gets packed as the night goes on. They have a good mix of music with almost every type of rithm for a fun night out with friends. Bartenders were good except for some cute/blondish girl that shouts everyone, calling herself "bartender" when she does not know the difference between a "cup with ice "and a "glass with ice". I'd like to see things from her point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my axx. However, as many alcoholic ppl, she gets more social acceptable as she drinks herself under the table along the night. To come for a fun night and be insulted all night long by some blondish bartender that really needs psicological help, and in a place that is a bit too far from transport and taking a taxi is hard, I think is not so applicable. It was my first time visiting The Woods and felt so welcomed. Girls got in for $5 dollar cover and my boyfriend got a discount and only had to pay $5 too. We were celebrating his best friend's birthday. Whoever the DJ was had some good hip hop music back in the 2000s and the only thing that annoyed me was he would change the music every 30 seconds man. He should have kept the beat alive longer. After a while I got used to it but yeah I would recommend keeping the songs on a little longer. I also want to give a shoutout to Talawa because he maintained control of the bathroom line and kept it fun and lively. He deserves to be recognized because you could tell he was working hard and making sure people were having a good time and was able to help the birthday boi find his keys! Coming here during the week and coming here on a Saturday night are the difference between night and day. HOLY EFF. When I came here on a weekday, it was like any other bar, but with an amazing backyard. Super cute. Bring in the DJ on a Saturday night and this place gets CRAZY. I happened to come here the Saturday of MDW and it was unreasonably cold out for May, which may have contributed to the craziness happening inside, as the backyard was pretty much deserted. Outside it was freezing, step inside and my glasses fogged up from all the body heat coming off the incredibly sweaty people on the dance floor. There were WAY too many people in there. It was more crowded than a rush hour 6 train. I'm sure if there was a fire, we all would have died. It's nearly impossible to get a drink and the line for the (unisex) bathroom melds with the dance crowd so there are a lot of people cutting and a lot more people getting angry. The bathroom floors were completely wet a mixture of spilled drinks, sweat and urine *cringe.* So! Great DJ, but definitely not worth it for me. Never coming here on a weekend ever again. read more

"That's not how we do things here in Brooklyn!" chanted the manager as he instructed his bouncer to escort me outside this establishment. I'm a born and bred New Yorker, probably older than this manager, a physician, and was not at all intoxicated or belligerent...so my friend and I left laughing in disbelief.. We had to leave before finishing my overpriced (for Brooklyn) drink and walk past their (Brooklyn) velvet rope! We were literally in shock and laughing in disbelief.. What did I do that was so unacceptable in Brooklyn??? I approached a couple of girls, introduced myself, said hi, politely, hands to myself. The girls didn't seem to have a problem with it at all..the manger obviously did. I've been to thousands of bars in my life in New York and all over the world, and have never been asked to leave (pretty boring I know)... I've never written a negative review, mostly b/c it's not worth the effort, but I'm FUMING after my 20th attempt at trying to call the Woods. I went last Friday night with a bunch of friends and had great time dancing . When I checked my credit card statement I realized they overcharged me. I thought the problem could rectified by a simple phone call. Ever since, I've been trying to call them to no avail. Literally called everyday for 7 days, 4 to 5 times a day and no one answered. What's the point of having a phone number if YOU DON'T ANSWER YOUR PHONE. I live in Harlem so it would be hard to travel all the way down there. Really disappointed. Was looking forward to coming back but that will never happen. really sucks. Stole my money. read more

Would give negative five stars if possible. Where to start...of course this place has a credit card minimum so instead of simply closing out a two drink tab, my girlfriend was forced to leave her card at the bar. Halfway through the cab ride home she realizes that she left her card at the bar. No big deal, we thought. I could simply show up at the bar during the week after work and pick it up as long as I had her ID. Unfortunately, this place is not run by the smartest patrons. I was turned down when I attempted to pick up the card. I was told that the person owning the card needed to pick it up herself (even if she lived 2 hours away). Even better, this establishment doesn't own a working phone so there was no way we could have called ahead to find out this "policy". Long story short, my girlfriend and I arrive again a few days later. It took over an HOUR for the bartender to give her the card back. It was a Wednesday night so the place was not packed, but the bartender could not be bothered with such a simple request. After dealing with this incompetence, it turns out that the credit card was charged $38 even though the tab was under $20 (since she could not close out a tab under $20). This establishment runs a borderline unethical business and should not deserve a single penny from anyone! Who doesn't own a working phone?? read more

I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to write about the Woods, but anyway... The Woods is on the south side of Williamsburg, by the bridge; so if you're a south-sider like myself, this tends to be where you end up later in the night when chances are you probably should have just gone home. On Monday, a friend from Boston was saying that the bars there all close at 2am, and I assured him it might be for the best because I do my best money wasting between 2 and 4 anyway. Cue Woods: it's a bar, but it draws a good crowd and it's fun. The backyard is huge, the beer is cheap, and the best part is that they've got tacos in the back. They're not nearly as cheap or large or delicious as those at Union Pool, but they're still awesome. As for the bacon sticks, in theory they're amazing but it's not something I recommend. My last remark about the Woods? It always smells funny in there. Like really weird. read more

This is my THIRD time going to the wood and the best thing about this place are the bouncers, the stamp lady and the bathroom girl!!!! They make you feel welcomed as soon as you get there ! They present the wood as if it's going to be AMAZING! The Dj's are TRASH all the time (boring)! Who plays the same songs over and over , Emo to salsa is horrible. It's ok to play old school hip hop and pop here and there but we are in 2017. (Which isn't good because I'm in my early 20's the crowd isn't always gonna be in there 30's or 40's.The music and the bartenders create the vibe. Speaking about bartenders who's the D*** in the back bar (white guy , short hair). Someone should seriously have a talk with him or just let him go , his personality skills are at a 0 on slow days and busy ones. Obnoxious , rude, unpleasant , distasteful & a lack of patients ! He's leaves a bitter impression that makes you not wanna come back and purchase anymore drinks because of his terrible hospitality & in an environment such as Williamsburg were the residents are a HUGE part of the community that situation should be rectified. I went to The Woods for the first time last night (a Thursday), and I'm ready to go back next Thursday. My friends have started going on Thursday nights in order to unwind and dance to the DJ (who plays good music, my favorites were "Nasty" by Janet Jackson, "Borderline" by Madonna, and "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" by Gloria Estefan). There was enough space for dancing and drinking, but I heard it gets packed on the weekends. My whiskey sours were strong and I even took part in the drink specials (can of beer & a shot, I picked the PBR & whiskey). Sadly I did not dine at the taco truck, but my friends did and whatever they were eating smelled great. The bathrooms were clean, which is always a plus. I did witness a fight between a guy who was knocked into a table and caused a beer to spill on a girl's coat, and the girl flipped out and tried to fight him, but then they got back to dancing and it was all forgotten. Very cool atmosphere with a reasonable door if you arrive early. There is a large cross section of people who attend which makes it an interesting time. I went out to The Woods on Friday night and had a great ratchet old time. I got to the bar at 3am so I shouldn't have expected anything less than a field of zombie drunks. Surprisingly the place was still super packed. They charged us a cover of 10 dollars for guys and 5 for girls. I'm not into the sexist cover charge type of clubby bar, but the coat check was free and they kept giving us free drinks so Overall I can't complain! But seriously the atmosphere was very rowdy. We heard like three beer bottles break on the floor in the hour we were there. This all sounds like a bad review but I honestly had a lot of fun. Come here if you're looking for a crazy night with your homies. If you're looking to just chill, I'd go elsewhere. Also- the space is sickkk. High ceilings, an outdoor courtyard for smoking, and another bar/kitchen in the back with all the drunchies. Seems like they've got their shit down. read more

Just visited The Woods for the first time about a week ago, since I was in the 'Burg. The bar was cool and very spacious. The fact that they serve PBR tall cans is definitely a plus!! But what was really good was the food out in the back of the bar! From what I've seen on Yelp is that the guy (Michael) and gal (Maria) running it are new, as there used to be a Mexican couple serving tacos, burritos, and other Mexican fare. I ordered the 3-Cheese Pumpkin Quesadilla and a Cheeseburger. The quesadilla was amazing!! I don't know what all the cheeses are, but one of them is definitely goat cheese, which really made it for me!! The cheeseburger was spot-on!! Cooked to a perfect medium, and topped with nicely melted American cheese, it was an American classic done right! The pickled fennel and red onion on the side gave a nice, tart contrast. I was informed by one of the chefs, Michael, that they source the burgers from Pat LaFreida. Good food and good beers in the same place?! Sign me up!! read more

Been here twice, and loved it both times. The dancing and music (heavy on pop of various decades) are great. They serve poutine and giant piece of bacon, and I love both. Bartenders are friendly and the atmosphere is great. $8 for PBR & whiskey. To be honest though, I'd go back just for the dancing even if everything else was terrible. read more

Been here 3 times....the first time it was radon and awesome. The dj was playing old school hip hop and reggea. Music was jamming and the bouncer gave me a $5 off coupon. I went with my lady and we had a blast. The second time I went on my birthday which was,on a Friday night. It wasn't fun until after 12:45 am because that's when the dj decided to play good music. Ended up having a blast but it took too long for the dj to get it rocking. The first 2 times,I went were on a Friday. The third time was on a saturday and I was complete garbage. The dj played nothing but weird trash and me and my girl was disappointed. Me and my girl was ready to call this our spot but the dj really messed it up that Saturday night. The bartenders are very nice and the drinks specials are reasonable. The outside part of the bar is great with amazing food. If only you can hire better dj's I'd give this place a 5. read more

My friends and I used to come here often when we first moved to Brooklyn 3 years ago. It was super fun and a great place to dance on a Friday night. However, the last two times I've been here, this place has gone downhill. They now charge a $5 cover, it is way too crowded and a long line to get in, the bouncers take their job way too seriously, they even monitor the bathroom line, and the last two times I was here the bartender took the liberty of charging my card more than what I actually left for a tip. Just because I was drinking doesn't mean I wasn't paying attention to the amount I wrote down, so clearly they think this is something they can get away with. It's a good crowd (knock on wood), with a huge outdoor space, taco truck, lots of nice- relatively clean for a brooklyn bar- bathrooms, and affordable. Over all everytime I come I have a good time. It can get a little crowded on the weekends, but what decent bar is dead with no bathroom line at 1 am on a Friday night? i went on "gay night". the well drinks are expensive for brooklyn, $7. they weren't that strong for the price. the outside area was huge. everyone there looked barely legal drinking age. also the whole vibe was really bro-y. i guess the drinks are so expensive because the space is huge. i don't know. as far as "gay night", it was pretty wack. the music was not that good, i danced with friends to try and have a good time anyway. there were a lot of corny straight dudes that were acting all dumb and protective over their girlfriends, like the ladies were going to get predatory with them or something. i saw this same scene over and over for a while on and off the dance floor. also i could imagine that if i had tried to talk to any men there it probably wouldn't have gone well. +1 star because when one of the straight bros groped a female friend i was with he was promptly ejected by staff without fuss. overall it was really boring, a lot of straight white very young college kids who don't mind paying for overpriced drinks, i didn't feel like spending any more money here so i promptly left and went to a friendlier and cheaper spot. read more

By far the worst experience I've ever had in a bar. Ever. Please don't go here. Was in here last night around 9:30, one drink in, when my friend asked for her second drink and the bartender, Eugene, accused her of not tipping on the first when in fact, she'd given him a $10 bill on the $7 beer and taco special and he'd failed to give her change. He called us liars (totally out of the blue, we'd had a good rapport with the guy 5 minutes before) so we clearly decided to leave and I needed him to close my tab. He brought back my card with a bill that was significantly higher than it should have been so I asked for an itemized version. And he said: "We don't have the ability to itemize and (smirking) I already ran your card so you're screwed now, aren't you?" We asked to speak to the manager and he lied saying that he was the manager. Then he TOOK OUR BEERS AND THREW THEM AWAY. Beers that we'd already paid for. He took FOUR beers and threw them out. It was so unbelievable. So we finally got the opportunity to speak with the actual manager, explained the situation, and instead of apologizing and immediately bringing us new beers, he looked at us in disbelief, spoke with the bartender who then walked over and slammed 4 one dollar bills on the counter, claiming to have only thrown out one beer. I've worked in the service industry for years and have never seen anyone treated this way. Ever. It was awful, I will never return to this bar, and am still sort of in shock that it happened. read more

If I could give the woods zero stars I would. Overall the space is amazing and would be great if the staff wouldn't be so rude. I went there last night with 3 of my girlfriends. Despite the music being horrible we tried to have a great time and danced to the djs horrible music. We were dancing and hyping each other up and one of the djs says "Shut up" we completely ignored it and started dancing again and hyping each other up and he yell once again "SHUT THE FUCK UP"....... instantly we told him that if he wanted no noise to go home. We then got kicked out the Woods. The bouncer took one of my friends wallet and pushed her on to the concrete floor. The cops were called for us because we wanted her wallet back, we didn't get the wallet back until a young man came to our defense. I tried to talk to the manager and he completely ignored me. AT THE WOODS we we discriminated based of our gender and age. The bouncer said "we look like crazy women" for defending ourselves and that we shouldn't be at a bar dressed the way that we were dressed. NEVER GOING TO THE WOODS AGAIN AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE....... read more

This place would be fun if the manager wasn't racist and on a power trip. The manager randomly tells the bouncers to kick people out and as I watched him go around the area doing this I noticed he kicked out every single black guy in the place. Then he started to harass my friend and I (I'm white he's Puerto Rican). My buddy and I were talking with our beers at one of the tables near the bathroom and suddenly this guy comes up from behind and flashed this bright light in our eyes, looks at the boucer, and points at us. We think no big deal then a minute later the same guy comes over and starts telling us not to yell (which we weren't) and this isn't that kind of establishment, blah, blah etc. and tells the bouncer to keep an eye on us so they can kick us out. We were both clueless as to what this guy was talking about and why he was accusing us of all these things. The only thing I can think of is given he had just thrown out all the black guys he also wanted to throw out my friend... We decided to leave and told the bouncers outside that the manager is racist and disrespectful, they said unfortunately they can't do anything but as we turned to walk away we heard one bouncer say to the other "see I told you that guy is out of control" which clearly means people have complained about him before... read more
