It's okay. New bar is always full of freshman- side is a lot of fun though. I've never really had any issues at side but at new sometimes the drinks are wrong. If you're friends with the bartenders you'll get served immediately otherwise if the bar is crowded you're gonna wait some time. read more

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a freshman. There is no better bar in Oxford! The non-freshman students like me will rant and rave about Brick Street Bar and Grill, but The Woods, aka "New Bar", is a real diamond in the rough. Their drinks are made with top shelf liquor like Ketel One or Bacardi and still don't cost much. The atmosphere is that of any top-tier night club in Los Angeles or New York (I am not a freshman and am a frequent clubber so I'd know), and the staff is so nice! When I was a freshman (I'm not anymore, I'm very much of age), everyone would wait in line for hours to get into The Woods just for its aura even though we couldn't drink because we were freshman (again, I am not a freshman now). New bar/The Woods: 2/5 Side bar: 4/5 Side bar is a bit more of a relaxed vibe, it still gets loud. But they have cornhole and a patio with tables in the back, and a small one in front. Also, big fan of their happy hour on Friday with half off drinks - and their free hot dogs!! New bar is more of a dance floor side, it gets completely packed with freshmen since they let in 18+. Very disappointed. I am a MU alum and was in tow for a concert at Brickstreet with my friend. It was a Wednesday night and we wanted to check out this bar. The bouncer asked for our IDs and while we were getting them out another person walked right past us and into the bar without being stopped. We had gotten out our IDs and were handing them to the bouncer when he asked for MU ID as well. I informed him that we were not students and he refused to even look at our IDs and turned us away. I understand that these bars do this for student safety on the weekends but again, it was a Wednesday night and the bar was basically empty. read more

Awful. Been in here two times and did not have a good time. The first time I went was on green beer day. The obese bouncer outside gave me a snotty attitude just because I had a Miami Hamilton ID and not an Oxford one. He rolled his eyes and let me through. The bartender was fast but all we ordered was some beers and they were not crowded at all. Went a second time. I was wearing shorts and a sleeveless shirt. Again the same obese bouncer was there. He did not even let me in. He gave me an attitude about nobody is allowed in at night that's wearing sleeveless shirts. I would get that if the bar was really upscale and elegant but this is just a basic bar. There's nothing special about it. Walked out and went to an actual bar that treats their guests with respect. read more

He told me I was going to be arrested because there was a reservation of a party but I was let in somehow ... then force to chug my drink or told I was going arrested ! It's a quality club. I can't complain about newbar in any way other than the restrooms but that's not where you should be in the first place. Everyone belongs on that stage or dance floor moshing to the music, or grinding it out. It's also a great mix of a chill bar and the dance floor. read more

The Woods is another popular bar in Oxford. I can remember when it first opened when I was at Miami. It's your typical college bar. It's pretty large inside. I noticed now recently they have another side for 21+ only, which I like. That's because this place can get CROWDED, especially on weekends. Outdoor patio is pretty nice. This is a great place to day drink at. You must try the Redskin. its their most popular drink. Ted, the owner, is very a nice guy who I've met before. read more

Very unprofessional bar. The bouncers are incredibly aggressive here, creating an unsafe scene for everyone. I would stay away from this bar in Oxford, as many other ones seem to represent the comfortable and nice environment this town resembles. Idiots designed and run this bar. Apparently there are two sides one for 21+ and one for 18 year olds(both sides have a bar because reasons). They card you when you go in and give you a wrist band, but you can enter both sides from inside through a simple door way. However, despite this, they card you either way from inside the bar when passing from side to side and ordering beer despite requiring an ID outside and recieving a wrist band. It makes you wonder why did you even bother carding me outside and giving me a band. What is the point you idiots? They also change band colors throughout the day further begging the question "Why? Seemingly the band does nothing as I will be carded purchasing alcohol and walking from one side to the other anyway." They also told me I couldnt bring a small bag in despite saying nothing about it earlier in the day when I was there, yet several women have their purses in there. Like I said ran and designed by idiots. Avoid it at all costs. A lot of hassle for low quality service, beer, and atmosphere. It's a dumb basement where you get carded for no reason and they give you attitude for a small sports back pack. It's like they don't realize there are 20 other bars in the area better and more relaxed than them. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Two stars because the atmosphere itself was pretty good, but what brings down my review is I lost my license, and proceeded to call the following day during their hours (2pm-2am) I called the number listed online 14X, with no one answering or calling back. It makes the restaurant look bad and along with that will likely not result in me coming back as a result. At least answer the phone. read more
