I lived in the Foxwood section for about 6 years from 2016 to 2022, it was my first time living on my own after graduating from college. I actually had a pretty positive experience. First off, the woods is a family oriented apartment complex, there are some young people but for the most part it's people in their mid-30s to 50s. If you're young you will likely have trouble making friends. I found most of the neighbors to be pleasant and nice though while I was out walking. One of the best aspects of the complex is the outdoor park that spans the entire complex; my wife and I found it very beautiful and always well maintained. We'd take walks and enjoy it daily. The units themselves are what I'd refer to as "C-grade", they aren't amazing but they get the job done. This is definitely the place to live if you are looking for housing in the Bay Area at a reasonable price. My rent for a 1-bedroom ranged from $1995 to $2080 at the end of the lease. They have a rule that they only increase rents up to 5% for existing residents. After COVID, our rents dropped dramatically which was very nice of the leasing office... They also allowed us to use a credit card during this time (they ate the processing fees), which saved us quite a bit of money as well. ($80/m in Cashback). The management always picked up their phone, and the maintenance staff was stellar! I'd file a maintenance request and it would be fixed in 24 hours, not joking. I was also able to charge my Tesla in the garage for free, they never billed me for the electricity or asked me to stop. I asked one of the maintenance employees if it was okay, and he said we would tell you if it wasn't. One of the downsides of the complex though is the parking situation, if you have two or more cars that is. You only get one garage space, so your second car has to hunt for a parking spot. If you arrive home after 7pm you will be searching for 30+ minutes to find parking. Since my wife was stay-at-home, this wasn't a problem for us since we'd leave the garage empty for when I arrived home after 7pm. The last thing I'd like to mention is related to the security deposit. Of the $850 security deposit they collected in 2016, we got $580 of it back when we moved out! I was extremely grateful and impressed to get a refund after living there for 6 YEARS!!! I read a bunch of other reviews that stated that you'd get nickel and dimed during move out, however this was not our experience. So don't believe everything you read on Yelp... if you take care of your unit and do your best to clean it up when you move out, they will return the gratitude and you'll get most of your deposit back. They also didn't charge me for paint or carpet since we stayed there long enough that they would have had to replace it anyway. TL;DR: Affordable complex with no bells and whistles; great management; stellar maintenance staff; terrible parking; chill rules and easy going staff. If I were looking for a place to live to keep my expenses down, I'd pick this place again. read more

Security is now an Indian guy at the main gate with the gate wide open at 10pm and again when I come back from the store at 11pm, the gate is wide open and he is just letting people in without stopping them. Massively disappointing experience today. I told the agent I was communicating with that I have a dog of 30 lbs. When I made the trek with my limited time in town to the complex, they told me only cats and service animals are allowed. The agent blamed the bot. What a waste of time. Complete lack of professionalism and organization. They confirmed my appointment, but when I showed up, no one had any idea it was scheduled. This wasn't a one-off -- it was clear the staff, particularly the male employee in the office, had no grasp on time management or internal coordination. I was met with a stream of excuses ("we're in the middle of a system upgrade," etc.) instead of accountability. If you value your time, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Lived there from 2001 to 2011. Forget about getting any sort of deposit back. You'd think that living there ten-plus years one would expect that painting and carpet replacement was a given. Nope, they charged me. Also billed extra because of "fleas" (I had cats) even though I flea bombed before moving out. Parking sucked even then. I was lucky in that I did have a garage, but if the second car wasn't in place by 3 pm, forget about parking anywhere near your unit. I was verbally abused by a non-resident waiting for a parking place; we were switching cars from the general non-reserved parking to the garage. A man pulled past me and pulled behind our car that we were going to relocate into the garage. He pinned me to my car, yelling that I had to move. Calling SJPD did no good, as the man had not yet physically touched me. The place was full of so much potential... it's just difficult to be rid of problematic renters. And I understand the complex is worse now, with drug dealers waiting to take your order for a little sumptin' sumptin' and two-bedroom units housing multiple families with multiple vehicles. read more

If you are thinking of moving to the Woods, you should take the reviews seriously and expect these few points: They will forget your deposit completely and ask you for double the deposit amount at the end of the period, even if you hand them the unit completely clean. Then, they will launch a fierce collection company that will chase you and destroy your credit. smocking is everywhere people fight, The police are always present. Garbage HOA avoid it all cost. I'm having to hire an attorney. The con artists on this HOA are ridiculous. Right now I'm having HOA evaluated, Da in California general, investigate them. It will take a year or two, but most of the HOA associates are being investigated for fraud. Many of them are negligent in how they are spending money and allocating costs. Unfortunately, these residents are going to be sued for probably everything they're worth, but I would avoid this place at all cost right now. This place is an absolute joke. Chris was the person handling my application, and the entire process was unprofessional from start to finish. They had units available, and I paid a holding deposit while waiting for approval. I was denied almost immediately after mentioning that I was on housing assistance--even though the application itself asks if you have housing assistance. If Chris didn't notice that information until after speaking with me, then my application was clearly not reviewed at all. I was not given a fair or honest chance. To make matters worse, it took over a month to receive my holding deposit back. They were quick to charge my card, but then decided to refund me by mailing a check instead--causing an unnecessary delay. After everything, I learned that The Woods is very poorly managed. Multiple former and current tenants report theft, drug use, and overall unsafe conditions in the complex. I strongly advise anyone considering this place to drive by, do your research, and read the reviews before applying. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. read more

The police are here almost everyday im talking about tanks, swat team and police dogs. Shootings within the complexes. Living here used to feel safe and it was beautiful. They have changed security companies several times in a span of months. I have been here for 6 years and dont even feel safe walking to my car anymore. Homeless people sitting in the trash can area, security lets everyone through the gate with no codes to get in why are we paying so much in rent and pay for an extra garage and get raised every year for this? Constantly being disturbed by police, not being able to walk to my apartment because police have it blocked off or being late to work due to police cars blocking the parking area and I even thought about upgrading to the edenwood townhouses but i cant wait to leave here now. Im absolutely terrified its so sad i loved it here. Go look elsewhere these apartments used to be nice its very dangerous and the people they have let move here cause so much trouble seems like they just let anyone move in these days. im so embarrassed to have family and guests visit due to all the police all the time its so sad i really hope they consider who there letting move in here. How are they letting all the homeless people come in i see them coming from the main entrance does security not even care? Loud music is constantly being played by the neighbors and nobody does anything to stop it the gym in amberwood has been closed for months and cant even use it. Would give 0 stars if possible. Save yourself the headache -- The Woods Apartments is a complete scam, especially when it comes to your security deposit. After moving out, they returned only $3 out of my $850 deposit, citing completely bogus charges like: * "Paint damage" for tiny pinholes from hanging posters -- aka normal wear & tear. * Charging me for a car barcode sticker... that THEY made useless after changing the gate entry system before I even moved out. The barcode literally didn't work anymore because of their system change, yet they still tried to charge me for it. * Outrageous "cleaning" and "carpet" fees despite leaving the apartment in clean condition (with photo/video proof to back it up). On top of that, the amenities here are a joke: * The gym is always closed or locked. * The pools are barely ever open. * They advertise amenities they rarely let residents actually use. * Maintenance is slow, communication is worse, and good luck getting any real help from the front office once you sign your lease. Worst part? You'll probably get charged for things outside of your control when you leave -- like a useless barcode sticker for a system they replaced. Place is overwhelming packed with cars and yet people are walking miles to get to their apartment. Just signed my lease and I'm hating it already. Than you get tickets for not parking right. Been living here for 2 years I think the safety is getting worse, moving out for safety concerns. The apartment itself has been fine, maintenance guys are great, office staff is decent. The last 5 months got broken into while I was home upstairs. And then a shooting outside our bedroom window, 8 to 10 shots went off at night. Management keeps changing the security companies. Yet none of them are very helpful. Our rent went up $300 since we first moved in. For these new rates you can find a safer complex. read more

I lived at the Woods for 8 years. The last 5 years were miserable due to heavy crime, stabbing, shooting and someone smashed my bedroom windows. You can't have anything delivered to your porch as it will get stolen. Heavy police are present all the time and it's unsafe. The maintenance team is excellent and are very helpful. That is about it. I would not recommend anyone to live there safely or quietly as it's loud. I lost a lot of sleep there. So glad to be gone. They also rip you off on your return deposit.​ read more

I have been a residence at location for over 5-6 years. Service interruptions had occurred not of my request or asking in 07/2023. I myself, my children, my vehicles have not been physically present at location. I have no activity participation of location activities of 07/2023-08/2024.I do not involve these activities in my workplaces, travels, relationships, or workplaces. I have not given any door entry key, mailbox key, residence gate code or vehicle bar code to any other persons of residence for self entry of accessing location of any type of ACT of retrieving any incoming mail in my name or children name per location. We've lived here for 6 months and it's unbearable. From Roaches being present early into our lease, and continuing throughout, that's only one issue. Secondly we had signs of termites, which was covered up with caulking by the maintenance technician, who by the way USED OUR RESTROOM while nobody was home, luckily we have a camera. And since filing a complaint, there's been no word back of any sort of apology from the office and/or maintenance. Third, as our final month comes up we're starting to see signs of rodent droppings. We are fairly clean people, we don't leave dishes in the sink over night, we clean weekly, and we don't leave any food to attract any pests. If I could give 0 stars I would. I do not recommend living here. SJPD shows up every other day if not every day. Neighbors are very ratchet. So many issues with management team there. Just a huge shout out to Monica the leasing agent. She's amazing at her jobs and listens to what we needed/wanted for our apartment. It was better back in 2021 living here with less issues and it felt a little more safe walking my dog DURING the day time. Many of these units get moldy fast due to poor ventilation just to add on. Yikes! I am aware that so many people call this place home and to be honest thankful for this place as I move on to my new home very soon. But just to warn others, a lot of the apartments have roaches and the maintenance seems to be really as needed so the place doesn't completely fall apart. I don't really deal with management but nervous due to the comments I have read regarding them Charging renters for leaving the apartment cleaned but lived in. If you can afford to spend another $200 i would keep looking elsewhere. But I'll definitely update if I can regarding the move out and steps and charges that may come with it. It's unfortunate because my apartment really has been unlivable since the first month. I can't wait to leave but please ask about roaches, I would do ask about the moisture in the apartment. They have a deal with the tow company to tow your car if you can't find a parking spot and you park in front of your own garage. They say because of the fire department but they just want to take your money. I have had several restroom plumbing issues while living in this home, however, I have always chalked up to it happens. I am at the last straw, my toilet clogged early today on a Saturday morning I placed a maintenance request and I under more emergency work orders take precedence. However, this has happened to my home too many times. This is unacceptable. Every time this has happened they have cut a hole in the dining area ceiling because the water has leaked through the ceiling . Bring in dehumidifiers and the process takes days. Then they don't bother to ever come back and properly finish the work. read more

My husband and I have lived here for a few years. Below is a list of pros/cons of living here! Pros: - Landscaping: The landscaping is beautiful here. You definitely do not feel like you live in South San Jose. We love having green grass year-round! - Cabinets/carpets: Everything was in great shape! We live in the "renovated" apartments. While it is not the most modern style, it is still nice compared to other apartments for a similar price. - Maintenance team: The maintenance team is wonderful. They are great at their jobs and very friendly! - Month-to-month renting: After completing your lease, you are able to live month-to-month at the apartment. There is an increase of price, of course, but it wasn't too steep (maybe $100-$200 more a month?) - Tall ceilings: The 3rd floor apartments have tall ceilings, making the apartment feel large. - Pets: You are able to have cats and dogs at this apartment (note: they say that dogs are not allowed, but I've seen probably 40+ dogs living here, from chihuahuas to german shepherds) - Bedroom: The bedroom is large enough to fit a king size bed, dresser, night stands and a work-from-home setup. - Deposit: We received a good chunk of our deposit back and felt like the itemized list of repairs that were taken from our deposit were fair! Cons: - Not sanitary: The amount of animal AND human body waste that we've seen around the apartment is alarming. Whether it's a balcony covered in dog feces (which smells awful on a hot day) or urine in a bottle on the staircase, you won't go a day without seeing (and smelling) some type of waste. - Drugs: If you want to smoke, this is the place for you. The woods has an aroma of weed at all times. Very family friendly... - Water shut-offs: The water is shut off on what feels like a monthly basis. Sometimes we get a 24 hour warning, sometimes we get no warning and don't hear about it until we try to flush a toilet. - Gym hours: The gym hours are very strange... only one gym opens before 10am, which only has cardio items, a pull-up bar and a cable machine that has been broken for months. - Safety: Safety is a HUGE issue. The security team has been really disappointing (there are a few great employees, but they are few and far between). We had a particular issue with a neighbor that would get kicked out of his apartment for 3-10 days on a monthly basis. For that duration, he would live/sleep on our staircase (or in front of our apartment), yell throughout the night, etc. Despite calling security multiple times, it took 7 months for them to take any action. I would go days without leaving my apartment because I didn't feel safe... A reminder to the security and office staff: This is the place that we call home. Please imagine what it is like for those of us that do not feel safe in our own homes. I could go on and on, but to put it briefly: I do not recommend living at the woods. read more

Don't be fooled by the pictures & read the peoples reviews!!!!!!! First of all I don't even know where to begin, but let's try. I moved into Cedarwood in December 17,2021 and immediately after moving into the townhome, me and my roommate noticed a disgusting smell from the carpets( &both bathrooms. Like no matter the amount of bleach & Clorox u use it always smelled like old urine) , and decided to rent a vaccum and just wash our carpets ourselves and we noticed that smell just never would go away. (I had told our leasing agent if they were going to clean the carpets & he said that before we move in someone will come in & wash the carpets since people have been walking on them during the viewings & maintenance. They were supposed to clean it before we moved it, but since we had already signed the lease there wasn't much we could do except take maters into our own hands!) Then a month in staying there we realized there was a coackroach infestation in that house and when I called maintenance they only came to spray the house. Didn't even check to see where it was coming from or how it got there, nothing. Then it became an every other month thing where they just kept sending someone to come bomb the house, until I decided enough was enough & the manager decided to see where the problem was coming from. Even after that I was having the problem continuously to the point where I stopped keeping the plates and utensils in the cupboard and cabinets because they were just roaming around. (How I know is because there were sticky paper all over the kitchen and ever week was a new one) Therefore we to decided to break out of the lease. Who wants to pay 3k for rent and live in a place that's infested with roaches?? Imagine this, you have people over to cook with you for the Sunday football, and a roach just walks the walls? What does that picture you as? And I'm a person who comes from a mother who suffers OCD and I myself too. That alone was my breaking point. Then today I get a bill of over 3K that the apartment is trying to charge me? For new carpets that smelled like a** since day 0 and re painting the apartment with a couple other ridiculous charges. When called to have them explain to me they just kept saying "well we had to change the entire carpet throughout the house for stains" LOL I deep cleaned the entire house and washed the carpet before leaving. It's really SAD AND PATHETIC what a place will do for money! It's a whole community of trying to rip off the people. & Don't get me started on the parking, if u have more then one car or would like to have guests; FORGET IT NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. not enough space & they charge a crazy amount for another carport. & get rich off of towing your car in a split second! Just know & do your research & spend your money at a place that takes care of its community & not takes away from it and threatens to ruin your credit for a place you've been having issues with since the beginning!!!!! Don't move here. This apartments have roaches , I lived there for a year and a half and for six , seven months we fought roaches they sprayed my house every two weeks. I finally got fed up with the roaches and gave my notice to move. They let me out the lease that wasn't a problem I had called The code enforcement on them. Oh but time to move out they screw you something awful, I had the rugs professionally cleaned, the woods charged me $140 for the rugs. Then they turned around and sent their hound in there he claimed he smelt smoke and they were going to have to prime the walls and repaint. Funny thing is I don't smoke. So I finally get my final move out notice from them and I'm not getting a dime of my deposit, back but instead now I owe them money they charged me for everything under the Sun including cleaning the apartment which I left cleaned. It's so bad that home first which helps the homeless, has them at the top of the list of slumlords, do not call! do not take your clients to this apartment complex! Nobody gets their deposit back what you get is a bill. The man that came and did my carpets when I moved out used to live there they got him for $1,500. Beware the apartments are nice I give them that but management sucks and they will screw you when you move out , you won't see a dime of your deposit back , instead you will get is a bill ! I currently reside here and it's crap . It's very ghetto alot of inconsiderate neighbors. Music will be played Obnoxiously loud and there a real shitty noise policy. Never any parking and they definitely don't have a capacity cap on how many people can live in 1 unit which they definitely should consider seeing how over crowded this place is. Lorenz provided excellent service by asking what my needs where, showing what was available and what the units offered, giving my partner and I a tour of the available floor plans as well as different apartments to see different pantry and appliance finishes, and ended up showing us a great looking town home. I got in a car accident they won't support me with a new pass to get into my GATED community while my car has work done. Why do I pay rent for a gated community that restricts the person paying rent from having access to the community. DO NOT MOVE HERE. Your friends can't visit you because there is no parking.
