I waited 14 minutes before I went looking for yet another employee, how disappointing to find four employees just standing around chatting while I wait in plumbing for nobody to ever show up. As I leave, they notice me and then try and offer me help. No thank you. We are done here. You are clearly too busy socializing to help customers. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Do better!

Dale is the owner, manager and as far as we can tell, only employee. After shopping here for years we have learned his prices are usually better than the competition and his knowledge and helpfulness are by far better. This is the type of local business that we need to KEEP in business. Yes. This place is that good! He has OLD STUFF you probably can't find anywhere else! He is low tech. Doesn't use a computer. But he has amazing old fashioned but up to date catalogs and seems to know where to find whatever you want. Dale may likely never read this review. But that's ok. Sometimes old school works even better than high tech!

In addition to the hardware (pretty much standard Ace stuff), you will find fishing poles, bicycle tires and tubes, gardening supplies, etc, plus high up on the walls are antique rifles, beer bottles, hockey sticks, fire-fighting equipment, a chainsaw, and so on. If you ask him where something is he will point and wave his hand back and forth and say over there. If you ask for specifics he will ignore you. Then there is a woman in her mid-thirties who is a long time employee or co-owner who seems nice but will flip and become hostile in an instant. She interrogated me about what I was going to use cold whether window washer fluid for. It was non of her business, the fluid was for the cars window cleaning system, and when did window washer fluid become a controlled substance?! The last time I went in she asked if I had an Ace Rewards # and I said yes but it doesn't work even though I updated my contact information twice (Third time worked). After I said that, she turned to me with hatred on her face and just stared. I stared back, pushed the unpurchased items back, said I didn't want them and left. When I looked back she was still staring. Creepy! I am a polite person who goes to great length to not be noticed which is hard because I am a big dude. I especially do not want to be seen exhibiting untoward behavior at any time. With this I am certain their responses are not due to me being a jerk. Luckily, they are not the only game in town!

There used to be to be one nice, extremely helpful lady, Gaby Garcia, but she's long gone. It's hard to get some of them to get off their stool to help you. I'm an old lady and have often wondered what it is I've done to piss their sales people off. The Gra eagle Ace Hardware is exactly the opposite, friendly, helpful and a pleasant experience visiting that store. I do not recommend the Portola Ace Hardware; filled with a bunch of self absorbed grouches.

Picture it, three years ago, during a really wet season even though it was May there was still a lot of snow on the ground. So my dad is driving his tank of a truck and we reach this long path of snow on the road so he decides to cut a path. Ok, no biggie, he is doing it super smart. Nice, slow and easy. GREAT TIMES! No shovel, no flashlights, no water BUT plenty of beer so we are GOOD TO GO! We start walking back, all five of us, sun goes down, water coming down the hills from the snow, feet wet, getting cold, havent had dinner BUT STILL DRINKING BEER. 6.5 miles later in the pitch dark we arrive at camp and start a roaring fire to warm up. My dad was not a happy camper having to leave his truck out in the middle of no where over night. So first thing in the morning we drive into town with my truck and stop off at this place. This place is AWESOME! I mean not just mom and pop awesome, just down right BAD ASS! Has more things than you can ever imagine. Crazy thing is it is like organized clutter if that makes sense. The owner was super friendly and got a good chuckle out of the story even though my dad wasnt laughing. We bought three shovels and some heavy duty chains. We even mingled for a little bit in this store kind of making a mental list of future needs if we needed them. Anyway, long story not so short, we were able to dig the truck out of the snow after a couple hours of digging and we proceeded to drink MORE BEER as a little quasi celebration.
