Horrendous service and the shop owner refsed to consider buying fairly new clothes in mid-March due to wrong size.

It's actually infuriating how greedy Village Discount has become. The store was even filthier than normal, and inventory was overflowing off the racks. Maybe if they priced fairly it would move.

I love this place, but you have to go in knowing that it is a old school decades-old thrift store…read more like an actual thrift store, filled with clothes, shoes, even socks, hat, gloves, accessories, toys, books, small electronics, & More, so is not the most updated it's not the cleanest because there's so many items that change daily & it's pretty massive, so you can spend hours there-Like I do, but I like to dig & hunt for treasures! The Thrifting world has changed a lot because of so many people are resellers now & stores like village discount outlet know that so you will see much higher prices on brand names or more highly sought pieces. The real gems are in the aisles, but you need to take your time & you can still find high-quality pieces that are on trend and/or vintage items that are of excellent quality, but what great is there are still basics & people who shop here for baby & kids clothes who need to be on a budget or don't want to spend too much money on clothes & more they may not wear for long. I literally just started writing reviews because I do like to gate keep my favorite stores, but if they don't have enough business, then they can't stay in business. They've updated their checkout systems with nice state of the Art POS systems & surprisingly have a VIP member club that allows you to earn points & I've spent so much I've gotten discounts, so you really can't complain when you're shopping and getting such great deals if you can be patient, know how to look dig and find what you want and need!

Compared to Goodwill they're buying clothes based on trends with no stains or signs of wear so this may lower your chances of what you sell. Crossroads Trading is very clean and well organized with around 10 fitting rooms so there is no bottleneck waiting in line to try on clothes. I appreciate Crossroads Trading organizes its clothes by size as other second-hand stores like Second Street do not. I have found some really great finds here - a Loft Faux Leather jacket for $40 (originally $180) and Lululemon leggings for $20. Because this location is located in Lincoln Park there is always a line to sell clothes. My dream is that they hire more cashiers to help get more patrons selling clothes through the line faster. I waited 45 minutes mid-day on a Tuesday to sell clothes. I do admire that they have a digital sign-in system to contact you when it is your turn to sell, and a rack to put your clothes on while you wait because then you can bop around Lincoln Park doing other errands.

You make more money if you opt for the store credit option but the clothes here are stained and out of style. I left with $30 in cash and a slap in the face. Partner here: WHAT A JOKE! Absolutely feels like a scam, how are you going to price my items and put them on the floor before I even decide to sell them to you. Scammer behavior. I cannot even see what items they're taking but I know that I have brand new name brand shoes that I likely got ripped off due to them lowballing me. The whole process is wrong. Pricing the clothes before I agree to sell is a waste of time. Have people looking through items, then ask the seller, AND THEN PRICE ON YOUR OWN TIME. The worker looking through my stuff kept getting pulled away to ring people up. I almost went up to the counter and asked for all of my items back due to this nonsense. Will not be back and the clothes they buy are ugly with literal shit stains. PLZ DO NOT COME HERE AND IF U DO CROP DUST THE PLACE!

I had been looking for a bedframe for months, I found one I really liked here and the price was reasonable. That was until I saw the note on it that said it was sold--had the name of the person who purchased and the date which indicated it was sold 1.5 months prior. I thought that was quite awhile to leave something on the floor so I asked an associate at the counter what their policy was for pickup times. She said, "oh, it's actually a pretty long time". To which I responded, "how long is that?" And she said about something like 5 or 8 days. I then told her I was asking because I saw an item on the floor that was sold 1.5 months prior. She was shocked and went to look and said oh ok yes that's a really long time. I said I would like to purchase it and could come pick it up same day. She said she had to discuss with her manager. She came back and said they were going to call the woman and told me to call the next morning to see what the status was. That part seemed somewhat reasonable. I called the next morning and was told they called the woman and left a message and she didn't pick up or call back, but they decided they were going to give her 24 more hours and told me to call back again after. So I did. The girl I had been speaking with wasn't working that day, so I had to explain the whole situation again. That person had to get the manager again and he got on the phone and was rather weird about it and sort of inferred that I was weird for following up and said for the second time they didn't hear from the lady and we're going to give her 24 more hours. Then explained to me that since she paid for it, they couldn't resell it to me, as if I was doing something wrong. I get that someone paid for it, I also understand there is a "policy" for 5/8 day or less pickup. If someone takes 1.5 months to pickup the item and is unresponsive to calls for several days, wouldn't you think it would be ok for them to sell the item to someone willing to take it off the floor immediately? The way I was treated for simply asking and then doing what the told me felt off. The fact that other customers were seeing the sold item and wanting it is precisely the reason for a pickup policy. Plus would the woman have ever come to pick it up had I not noticed it and pointed it out to an employee? I'm thinking no. To conclude the story, I ended up calling again, getting the same response again and they said they'd call me if the situation changed (I could sense they were annoyed). I hadn't heard back and DID feel annoying, but called back a week or two later and was told they finally got a hold of the woman and she was arranging for a service to come pick it up for her within the next few days. I ended up seeing the bed frame on Facebook Marketplace a month or so later with a $350 markup :/
