Every time I try to sell here it just puts me in a bad mood. I spent half my day getting on and off the waitlist and when the guy finally took a look at my two bags of clothes--15 name brands in-season--he took less than five minutes before deciding that only one item was worth it. And when all was said and done, they offered me $10 in store credit and $5 cash. Practically everything in this store is at least $20 so neither option sounded appealing at all. Felt like a slap in the face really. So I told them I wanted the skirt back and they had to rip the newly attached price tag off. Bye. You can seek and buy here and it's easier than posting on FB or Mercari or Poshmark so it's good for both sides. They don't buy new or used jewelry bc they get stuff from their suppliers. They buy what's trending. No bathrooms and parking on street. It's bigger than the store on Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. I wouldn't recommend selling here. Atmosphere is fine but I've brought in clothes that have the same exact style and look of clothes they're selling, and they have refused to take anything everytime. It's getting a little weird. I'd recommend Buffalo Exchange to sell versus here. Responding to the manager's comment - I remember coming with this summer dress earlier this year and the associate said it was too early for it but they would definitely take it in a month or two. I came back with the same dress and a different associate said they didn't want it. It seems like the training isn't consistent across your work force if I received two different responses for the same dress. read more

Turns out two of us can be condescending. this is the one store in this entire city I have yet to buy from because everything in here is overpriced, not vintage, and tacky. Prices are above average compared to a traditional thrift store, but because they sell designer names and trendy clothes I feel their prices are justified. Compared to Goodwill they're buying clothes based on trends with no stains or signs of wear so this may lower your chances of what you sell. Crossroads Trading is very clean and well organized with around 10 fitting rooms so there is no bottleneck waiting in line to try on clothes. I appreciate Crossroads Trading organizes its clothes by size as other second-hand stores like Second Street do not. I have found some really great finds here - a Loft Faux Leather jacket for $40 (originally $180) and Lululemon leggings for $20. Because this location is located in Lincoln Park there is always a line to sell clothes. My dream is that they hire more cashiers to help get more patrons selling clothes through the line faster. I waited 45 minutes mid-day on a Tuesday to sell clothes. I do admire that they have a digital sign-in system to contact you when it is your turn to sell, and a rack to put your clothes on while you wait because then you can bop around Lincoln Park doing other errands. read more

Stole a blouse from me. Brought in a bag to sell and was told (quite rudely) they did not want anything from my bag but when I got home, I realized a Calvin Klein shirt was missing. I immediately called the store and they said they'd look into it and call me back. Two days later, still no call so I called again, only for them to say they have no record of my dilemma. Long story short, I still don't have my blouse back and they only offered me $5 to resolve the issue. Terrible service. Give your business to a different thrift shop - salvation army has a designer brand section for half the prices of crossroads. read more

The employee tells me to come back in an hour and since I'm on the waitlist I'll receive a text and have about a 15 minute grace period to come back with my clothes to start the selling process. I come back an hour and a half later. Since I haven't received a text, I go in to check in on the wait time again. I see i am # 6 on the waitlist, so I ask the employee how much longer. The other employee next to her starts laughing and shaking her head. Don't give your customers an unrealistic wait time then proceed to be rude. Clearly it would take at least two to three hours and not one. Which is fine if I would've been told that in the first place. Also expand your grace period. We all know with Chicago traffic, 15 mins isn't enough time to get anywhere around here. read more

But the buyer said she couldn't authenticate the gucci items, so I pulled up my gucci online account to show her the order receipts. Then she said she would need a receipt from my email and that a screenshot of the order page showing the invoice would not work. Very strange, especially considering the items they bought were the cheapest/worst quality/least stylish items I had brought in! Also, I looked around the entire store at least twice and couldn't find a single thing worth buying/trading for. They won't take gucci but if you have Zara, h&m, express, Uniqlo, or other fast fashion they will definitely take that and sell it for almost as much as the item costs brand new! read more

The store is well organized and they have a wide selection of items. I have enjoyed occasionally browsing here in the past, however their buying department is frustrating to deal with. I've spent over 3 collective hours in 2 trips to the store to sell my clothes that are in good condition, stylish, but no longer fit me. And each time the buyers say that my clothes aren't from the "right" manufacturers. The most frustrating part is that some of the clothes they have displayed for sale are outdated and unattractive. If you want to sell your clothes, I'd suggest to go elsewhere to do so. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I had a very odd experience with this store. I brought in multiple bags of quality items from very well known brands. They asked if I had sold with them before and I said once many years ago. (Around 4 years ago) Since I had MANY bags I had brought in I didn't want to wait at the store so the sales rep told me I would be able to leave and come back before close. That's all he said. I came back around 7pm thinking they would have the items they pulled from the bags set aside with a list of what items and prices they were willing to give. The new associate that didn't help me previously said the total price they were going to give me for the items they pulled from my bags but failed to give me info on what items they actually included in this total. No list of price breakdowns or even just a list of what they selected from the bags. Only a cash total. After hearing what I thought was a ridiculously low total amount they were willing to give me I said that I would like the items back and to not sell. The associate told me that when I give over my bags to the store, I "relinquish" all of those items and they choose what they want and put them immediately out on the floor because they assume I just want to automatically sell them by bringing them in. I have NEVER heard of this before. I said you should never assume someone is just willing to accept any price you offer. Those items are still the sellers items until the transaction is completed. He said he would have to search for all of the items on the floor if I really wanted him to. I was so frustrated and who knows how long that would have taken. I left with whatever they offered me because according to the associate I didn't really have any other choice. I still have no idea what they actually took from my bags. Completely ridiculous way of doing business and I will never sell here again nor shop. read more

I have to give 1 star for how obviously rude the dark haired woman wearing her hair up was to me. She's the one with the "punk" style. She discouraged me from coming into the store that day, lying about the number of people waiting. When I added myself to the app waitlist I had no issue getting help shortly after I arrived and I could clearly see there weren't 20 people waiting either way...but when she snatched my bag out of my hand when I asked her which of my items had stains, I had to hold back from commenting to her on her attitude. She didn't even need to see inside the bad she snatched from me and only presented one item with stains. It was way too dramatic of an exchange over a simple question she could have just answered. Needless to say I had to go in and fold every item again since she only was willing to purchase only one of them and threw the rest back. That was funny because I did bring several autumn clothing items as she stated by phone they were seeking such things. She reminded my why I've always hated coming here. Rude behavior and unsolicited comments on how my styles don't "sell well". Overall she seems like another lazy store associate with a bad attitude like I've always remembered. read more

Waiting for almost 2 hours with a bag of clothes they took one pair of pants and gave me 12 bucks. Didn't accept anything else and gave me bs reasons for not accepting any. If you are coming here under the impression that you will sell clothes you will be very disappointed. Also the people that work here are weirdos. As soon as your drop of your clothes they will choose to buy certain items. However they will Most likely choose a handful of times (most Likley 1-2 pieces). I love crossroads. I've both bought and sold here. Ive always had pleasant experiences with staff, and engaged in friendly convo with them. I think it's silly a lot of people come on here to leave bad reviews just because the store didn't buy their clothes...you can't expect everything to be at value to them and their constantly growing inventory. Sure I've been disappointed they didn't buy a few things, but so grateful when they do! It's never guaranteed, and when it happens I'm just happy to have a few dollars in my pocket or trade in value at the store. Around Halloween I brought in some fall/winter clothes to sell but I also needed a sweater for my costume! Not only did they buy a few things from me, but I also found a sweater for my costume and was able to use the clothes I brought in to trade for the sweater. I think it's such a cool concept!! It's also great for the environment which is huge! Love this place and any negative review is really just a person having a bad day. read more

Nordstrom clothes ranging from BP (economy brand, -20 per item at retail) to Burberry and they buy nothing. But if your mother held on to trash handbag brags like Dooney & Bourke, who've been de-listed from the RealReal and probably postmark for years, you're in luck! They'll buy your junk. Uneducated staff when it comes to "designer on site buys" as well. Not blaming the VERY friendly and helpful staff. But I never would've made a second stop after my every day, trendy clothes were rejected only to be told "$120 for the unused Saint Laurent bag, and I'm not sure how to price the Givenchy shoes so you'll have to just consign and get commission once we figure it out and someone eventually buys them"--save yourself a headache and go to the RealReal or postmark or MAYBE even Platos at this point read more

Great for buyers, but not really for selling. It's understandable being in a busy part of the city that their store is full, so even if you bring in current on-trend items, there may not be any need for your clothes (this is what I heard today). I tried selling on two separate occasions-- in both instances, my clothes were looked over quickly with all items being dismissed, even a pair of designer jeans :( I understand that they take particular items that are trending and in good condition, and that this is clearly stated on their website. It's still a bummer, though. I also used their check-in system, but they had allowed someone else to cut in front of me even though my name was up and I had already been waiting for 30 minutes. Still giving 4 stars because their selection is great. I've had a few good finds, even a super nice dress that I wore to a wedding. But if you're selling, try a few other options besides Crossroads. read more

Love me some second-hand shopping... espesh at Crossroads! This Lakeview spot has a marvelous selection of youthful, fashionable styles, from Forever21 and Gap to upscale designers! I stop in often and almost always find something stylish that fits. I would say this Crossroads tends to be better for buying than for selling if you have average-brand clothing. They don't tend to take a lot (and are especially strict on buying only within season). The dressing rooms could be cleaner & need more hooks. They also have more women's options than men's, which unfortunately is typical in many stores! But overall, I'm a huge fan. They keep their ish organized. The racks aren't too packed to browse. If I had to pick only one Chicago clothing store, this would definitely be the place- supes dependable for maintaining a cute and relatively inexpensive wardrobe! read more

It was not a busy at this Crossroads, only a few people ahead of me to sell. I waited about 20mins before I started to read all the enlightening reviews about 2 hour wait times. I asked a cashier wether it would take that long, and all she said was that it could... So why isn't "We are really slow at this, could take 2 hours" the first thing they tell you you arrive, instead of wasting people's time. I love shopping here because they always have great stuff at amazing prices. I recently got a pair of new with tags Levi jeans for $15! Everything is clean and well-organized so it doesn't really feel like a secondhand store at all. Selling, though, is really frustrating. It seems like they care more about brands than about what's in style and what people would buy. They'll pass on a new-with-tags, in season top just because it's from BooHoo instead of Zara. Plus, they definitely don't even look at everything you bring in. They take stacks of stuff straight from the bag to the no pile without even unfolding them. So make sure you fold so your brand-name tag is out! I know that high standards help keep the stuff in the store great, but it's really frustrating when they refuse to buy a dress from Target because it's not a good enough brand even though they have the exact same one out on the rack for sale. For selling, don't waste your time if it's any brand cheaper than Banana Republic - and even then it's really hit or miss whether they take it! read more

The 2 stars are for the experience I've had selling with women at this location. And I would have given them 0 stars if for one woman in particular. She NEVER buys my clothes. The next day I come with the same batch, and the gentlemen working there buys 7 items. Hrmmm. So I do an experiment, I take very trendy clothes up there and go to the same woman, and she buys nothing again. This time I'm forced to say something. Why is this? I know these clothes are trendy, they're all exclusive brands and in mostly new condition. Below is an item that she turned down. A blue generation Jack & Jones bomber. What? Tell me how she turns down a trendy item like this...is like an explanation or I am claiming bias ASAP. You think men can't get discriminated against. We shall see when I speak to an attorney. I would've taken $20 for a $140 coat. Don't get me started on the Man City authentic jersey and Arsenal hoodie that are literally sought after by men. Please explain how my experience has turned out this way. Also, I've had a good experience with the mixed girl that works there. The white women have not only been rude but they NEVER buy my clothes. You can look up my history. I've sold at Crossroads for awhile now. If you're a man, do yourself a favor and don't sell your clothes here. Unless the owner can tell me otherwise, the white women at this store are biased and won't buy your clothes. Been selling here for 3 years. I'm done. Trust me on this one. Since Plato's Closet on Diversey and Clark shut down about a year ago, this has been my go-to spot for discounted fabulous brand finds. Just this week I scored a $20 Free People dress, barely worn. The best! I love that this place exists and is so close to my home, because I know I can look for a dress to wear to a wedding, or a casual outfit, and save big money. I do agree with a lot of other reviews on this page when it comes to actually *selling* your own clothes here. It's absolutely a hassle to carry your items to a place that boasts the buying-your-clothes game, only to also be a place that rarely gives more than $10, even if you bring in the snazziest hand-me-downs you've ever dared to part with. Plus, wait times are insane to the point where I don't even bring clothes in here anymore to sell. I just buy. It's obvious with the loss of shops similar to this one in the area (and in general) that Crossroads as a brand probably doesn't have the money to be dishing out big bucks, no matter how great of a condition your old Fendi bag is, but that's definitely not the employees' fault. I've never encountered an unhappy employee or a rude employee here, but I don't think it'd be fair to get mad at one of them for not taking your used clothing. With all that being said, this is definitely the place to go if you're looking to refresh your wardrobe at a low cost. I do not understand this place. I came in with two bags full of nice things, there was nothing wrong with any of the items -no stains or rips but yet they didn't take anything except for a pair of brand new vans with the tag still on them and only gave me $8 for it. When I walked through the store I notice multiple items with rips and stains on them. You're better off selling elsewhere. read more

Crossroads was my first time thrifting, thanks to the economy. Friends who lived nearby talked me into checking it out with them, promising potential in the bag area. Unfortunately, I didn't see anything on my trip. I imagine the good ones must get snatched up immediately though. What I tried on: a Betsey Johnson strapless lace dress ($75). What I bought: a Banana Republic suit coat ($10). I may have 209384723 black party frocks and suit coats, but suit coats are good for work, and therefore much more justifiable a purchase! Just like a true vintage shop, they played some good vintage music...I bopped around to Duran Duran and Peter, Bjorn and John while sifting through the aisles. The woman at the register was totally sweet and brought down a few clothes from the wall for me to try on. That's what I call service with a smile. I'll be back to visit next time I'm in the area and my friends want to go, but I still prefer my clothes like my men: fresh, young and unused. read more

This is a review for selling only. I didn't know quite what to expect as I shelled my luggage full of clothes into the store for the first time. I waited nearly an hour before getting seen for evaluation so beware if you park to put in plenty of money at the meter. Also they only look for current season clothing so don't bring sweaters in the summer. They don't really accept suits, just hyper trendy clothing. Shoes if too small (under 6) likely won't be accepted due to sizing. You get just a little cash unless you want store credit. SO overall I had several items with new tags in the 100s (designer) and they sold for 20-30.00. PAINFUL Might want to go somewhere else or keep your items. I felt pretty unsatisfied after I left and realized I not only wasted time but left with 21.00 after unloading at least 350.00 worth of clothing. Even if you slash it 50% off (new with tags) it's painful to walk out with so little cash. read more

After going through my closets I found a bunch of stuff I didn't want. I remember walking by this place and noticing they bought clothes. Before I walked over I thought I would give them a call to get a feel of what they would take and not take. They told me not to bring any winter stuff as they were only interested in spring/summer clothing (makes since). Walked my two bags of clothes over and they told me I had two options: 1. 50% of selling price in trade for store credit 2. 35% of selling price in cash. I took the cash! Crossroads in Lincoln Park has the largest selection of any location in the Chicagoland area. A lot of the styles represent the demographic, but they also focus on seasonal trends. I've been selling periodically for 2 years, and all the sales associates are friendly (although I find that they seem more stressed on the weekend due to high traffic). Selling: If you can make it on a weekday, it'll save a lot of time as it's only 10-15 minutes compared to 2-3x that on the weekend. The buyers are very clear on why they take or don't take certain items. I've had good luck with selling gently worn, in-season items, things that you can see people buying now. Crossroads prices are in the $15-30 range, so it's not worth bringing fast fashion brands here since those items are at this price point at retail. Payout is 30% cash or 50% trade. Buying: Just dig and deals are sure to be found! Out-of-season items are marked down an additional 50%, and I was able to pick up a pair of brand new Free People boots for under $25. You'll find popular mall brands, but I've also seen great deals on premium brands like DVF, Theory, Tibi, and Frame Denim; designer brands are displayed behind the counter and in a glass case. The inventory changes based on what people bring in, so it can be hit-or-miss, but it's very rewarding to find a gem. read more

I understand that they take particular items that are trending/in-style in good condition and it's posted on their website. I brought in what I had to sell, confident that 75% of it was what they were looking for. They gave me back my bin almost as full as I brought it in, total bummer but I get it. They know what sells well and what doesn't. What really bothered me though was that they didn't tell me how many items/what items they took. So I wasn't able to gauge whether the cash I was receiving was fair for what I was selling. I can't help but feel a little ripped off. read more

This was a first and last experience for us. I had a laundry-sized basket of clothes to potentially resell and chose Crossroads to attempt. After submitting and waiting for my turn to "sell" at home via their app, I got a notification to show up in 15 min. After arriving 1 min late to the store, my pregnant and slow moving self was told to resubmit and wait at the end of the line again. When it was our turn to finally attempt to sell our clothes, my husband and I walked around the store in attempt to find anything to potentially trade without success. In a hysterical turn of events, my entire submission (including designer leggings/purses and clothes with tags still on them) was rejected, but a dirty flannel button down 10 year old Express Men's t-shirt of my husbands that had been used as a rag during our moving process (and erroneously placed by him into the consignment/donation pile) was the sole item "bought" by the store. The next decision was the icing on the cake - we could wait in another 30 min long line that was looping around the store to either use $7 trade credit or get $5 cash. Moral of the story, this place is not worth your time or effort, in selling or shopping. Spend the 2 hours on your weekend walking a dog and donate your clothes instead - you will have a nicer afternoon, make quadruple the money and do more benefit for society! We totally understand, my particular style my not be the look of this shop and that is by all means their prerogative and business expertise! First time consigning anything of mine today...anywhere. I had three Trader Joe's bags and zero clue what to expect, but figured I'd try instead of my usual Brown Elephant drop off donation of my ever changing wardrobe. I waited maybe 15 mins for them to call my name and shopped for another 10 while the friendly associate looked though my stuff. They ended up keeping 12 pieces and I got a $96 store credit that I'll use at a later date. I asked to see the items they chose so I could get the vibe of what they are looking for and think I have a pretty good idea now Most were pieces from Urban. Sooo I walked in today to see if this consign life is worth it and it was Super happy with my experience. Could not find anything to purchase today, but I'll be back. In my efforts to be sustainable and not support fast fashion I really appreciate stores like this. They encourage recycling clothes (their sign literally says recycled clothes). Their prices are fair and I often find clothes that still have tags on them. When stores like this exist, there's really no reason to: A) buy clothes at full price B) throw your old clothes in the trash C) support the fast fashion industry I know these places can be overwhelming but there are gems! I bought a $395 Marc Jacobs bag for $75. I bought $90 lululemon pants (tags on!!!) for $20. I bought Madewell jeans for $24. And you can find even better deals. And you can trade in your clothes for a store discount. If you have a shopping addiction (like me, unfortunately) you should come here before buying full price. read more
