This is a great pharmacy that's like the pharmacies back when they weren't warehouses selling everything! The employees/ pharmacists are top notch. They're friendly, very accessible and happy to help! Delivery is available for a nominal fee. They're quite good at giving vaccines. Also, they sell a variety of products that are made locally. MAJORITY OF THESE REVIEWS ARE OLD!! (So is the photo with the late, great pharmacists of Theatre!) This used to be the best pharmacy in the region... Sadly, now under new ownership, this pharmacy is sub par. Their system sent texts confirming that they will have prescriptions filled by a certain date and time- while in actuality not knowing whether or not they would have those meds on hand. I understand supply chain issues, manufacturing issues, etc can make it more difficult to source certain medications.... Which is why sending a message to a patient in need of a particular medication and confirming you have what they need, when in fact you Don't, is not only wrong but potentially dangerous for the patient. Additionally, the new pharmacists are not only ill educated on inter pharmacy relations, laws and regulations surrounding (non opioid) controlled substances, but they're rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. Needless to say after driving from another state to pick up a medication they didn't even have in stock- I will be transferring any and all scripts elsewhere. I also work in an oncology practice at MGH and we will be certain not to recommend this pharmacy to any of our patients. read more

I've been going to Theater Pharmacy for over 10 years - these guys are great. There are other big chain drugstores nearby, but they don't compare. The pharmacists here are caring and knowledgeable. They will go to the trouble to research problems or chase down an insurance company issue and get a solution. One time my son, who was away at college, forgot to bring his prescription meds with him. The guys at theater called a pharmacy near my son's school, had the prescription transferred, and got him the meds he needed that day. Another time I was out of town on vacation and discovered I left my meds behind. A quick call to Theater and they got my meds transferred to a place near my vacation. They did it cheerfully and helpfully with no fuss. This is very different than my experience at the big chains - at Theater you feel like they know you and care about taking care of you. read more

Even with two large chain pharmacies close by, I only get my meds at Theater Pharmacy. They have, hands down, the most personable customer service of any pharmacy I've ever been to. In addition to the staff who work the counter, the pharmacists are so incredibly helpful when I need advice on medical products or medicines. Also, when I've had issues with my insurance company--and who doesn't--they've been great about working with me and my insurance company to get things settled. I know that most insurance companies are trying to get us all to use the large pharmacies or mail-in meds, but with such service, attention, and prices, I won't go elsewhere. read more

I really love seeing small independent pharmacies stay in business. The pharmacists here really seem to care about the customers. When you walk in to get a prescription filled and you want to wait for it, they have it done in under 5 minutes. That is impressive! They also seem to have a pretty nice selection of bath/healthcare products in the store. There's parking in the back, even some short-term spaces right by the door, if you're just running in for something. I always try to buy from these guys instead of the big pharmacy chain across the street. I hope they stay around for years to come, because they're a Lexington landmark! read more

I recently made the switch from a chain pharmacy due to changes in my insurance coverage. Theatre Pharmacy made it incredibly easy. Yes, the hours are a little shorter, but the service is better which to me makes up for it. This store improves my quality of life. There are many great things about living in Lexington and this place is one of them. Chain pharmacies are a nightmare; this place is a gem. This is the only corner of the modern healthcare industry that doesn't make me want to take a Valium. Honestly, I am so grateful -- there is a never a wait or a hassle. And it's a sweet little store too. If I have forgotten someone's birthday and need a quick little present, they have tiny boxes of nice chocolates and lots of nice soaps -- and quick little $3 finger puppets for small children. For all the reasons other reviewers have listed, I'm a fan of Theatre Pharmacy. I prefer patronizing local, independent businesses and Theatre earns my business in many ways: prompt, efficient service; good hours; helpful staff (both pharmacists and front-of-store); and interesting merchandise I don't find elsewhere. They carry prescription meds that other pharmacies told me they had to order. And when one medication had a supply problem, the pharmacist called around to others to find it for me. I avoid the big, impersonal chains selling food and all sorts of general merchandise as much as I can. read more

After 20 years in Lexington we moved out to Charlestown. Just can't bring myself to use any other pharmacy than Theatre Pharmacy -- so I have a bit of a commute monthly. They are the most service oriented pharmacy I've ever dealt with. Tried the CVS route for awhile -- just couldn't deal with it. There are a lot of things that can go wrong with prescriptions....no more refills, new insurance provider, delay in script showing up. So glad I switched to Theatre Pharmacy. I was using CVS and was so sick of the grumpy pharmacist and service people. You can ask the Pharmacist questions and he is happy to help and the people at the register are terrific. They also have terrific products in the store. I bought a clay heating pad because the pharmacist told me that it stays hot longer then the regular microwave heating pads, he was right! CVS doesn't have clay heating pads and their heating pads are 2X more expensive! read more

This place is really great. In a world of lame chain drugstores, Theatre Pharmacy is a breath of fresh air. Not only do they disregard the American spelling of "theater" in their name, but they have an equally unique atmosphere as well. Indeed, they have a pleasantly quaint shop which has become a timeless landmark in Lexington Center. Appearances aside, the staff and customer service at this place leave nothing to be desired. They have all the latest technology to make picking up and refilling prescriptions a breeze, coupled with an attentive and totally cool staff. Sure, the hours may not be favorable to those with busy schedules, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices to support the good guys. All the things you may need on your trip to the pharmacy, and many great surprises. After trying to make it work with CVS I have switched to Theatre Pharmacy. I switched my prescriptions from the Arlington CVS (which was driving me crazy with long waits, perpetual out of stocks, unfriendly service, etc etc) to Theatre Pharmacy about 6 months ago and have just been amazed. They are *insanely* fast - I pop in, say I want a refill, and am literally paid for and out in about 3 minutes. It's just incredible - that would have been 40 minutes at CVS.
