Great space and great massage! But I wouldn't recommend coming here if you haven't had a massage before. I used to be a massage therapist and was still confused as to what they wanted. They never ask you any questions just open a door let you in and then close it. I was confused so opened the door and she says take it off. Ok now I know she won't be walking back in for a min and get ready and under the sheets. During the massage I felt comfortable and she gave me a quality professional massage. They have lots of other services and apparently a sauna which a tour would have been nice. Can't beat the price and quality so I will be back and perhaps try and ask more questions about the space. read more

Had a GREAT massage from Galena who was very professional and incorporated some different/therapeutic modalities during session. One of the most relaxing and therapeutic sessions I ever had! She addressed all my areas of complaint. Was also there years back and had an older therapist who was also excellent ---and strong!! Will be going back. A few reasons I didn't give 5 stars. 1) Very loud, distracting talking outside of room during massage 2) The colors --- rooms were painted a dark orange with dark or black trim. Definitely not relaxing and soothing. What a positive difference it would make with some blues, green and even purple (healing/soothing colors). I used this place once before and thought they were great. Now when trying to schedule a new couples massage: I was not scheduled correctly not once but Three times . Then I was told to come when they had a later opening. Just horrible customer service. Then bad the nerve to be told there is a cancellation fee when they screwed up THREE times. Especially considering I've been searching for a good massage therapist for several months since moving back to Chicago from Portland and this place is only two miles from me. After about four months without a massage, I went to Chicago Touch only a week ago and my experience was so completely awful that I needed to go again. This was SO good that halfway through my hour massage I asked if there was any way to extend it to 90 minutes. Cindy said she would ask another girl if she could continue for another 30 minutes--she could. And Jordana might have even been more amazing. I had a deep tissue/Swedish combination and they primarily worked on my IT band and neck/shoulder areas. They were really professional, sweet, thorough, responsive, and STRONG. I'd give them a 3.75 stars. I went on a Tuesday night for a one hour Swedish massage. They had ample slots when I called the night before. Don't be misled by the Google map street shots. The place has been renovated since. It was clean and bright. I was a few minutes late (thanks rush hour traffic) so I went right into the treatment room. My therapist quickly introduced herself and got to work. It was a good massage. I feel like she had a very good understanding of anatomy/musculature. Some therapists feel a need to bludgeon you into a pulp, but she used smooth, medium-pressure. I don't know how to describe it except that it felt very accurate. She didn't chat with me too much, which I prefer. The cons: The music was at times really weird -- very synthetic -- which distracted me. I found it odd that there was no intake, no asking about specific needs or medical conditions. My massage was $65, which didn't feel like a rip off. It wasn't the best massage I've ever had, but it was far from the worst. I'd say this is a good choice if you live really close to it and like a straight-forward service-driven salon experience. If you're looking for a destination relaxation/spiritual spa experience where you get a fluffy robe and flavored water and chill out post massage reading magazines -- this place is not it. I called to make an appointment for a facial at 10am. I was told they had a 3pm. I booked it. At 2pm I was with my eye doctor picking up glasses only to find the lab messed up 2 of the 3 pairs I was picking up. I knew trying to get this cleared up was going to take some time so I called to see if couLd move my appt. They said no so I told them I would need to cancel. The rude person on the phone said next time I do this I would be charged. I let her know I just made the appt 3 hours ago and explained why I had to cancel. She said I know I'm just saying next time you do this they will charge you. I kindly let her know there will be no next time let alone a first time. I then went online to see their cancellation policy as most that have a charge for cancellations take a cc at time of appt and they did not. Sure enough they charge 50% of the service if you do t give them 24 hours notice. How do you give 24 hours notice when you make the appt 3 hours before your appt time and why would you not let me know of the policy at the tiMe that I am making my very first appt with you?? 4 friends recommended this place for years so after pulling a muscle I figured this would be my time to check it out. I opted for a 30 minute session since I wasn't sure I could tolerate a full hour. It was easy to get a last minute appointment (during the Bears game)and I had Ann who ended up being all of my friends therapist. This is my fav place to get a massage in Chicago. The salon is a bit unasuming on Milwaukee/Elston intersection..but it's fantastic inside. It's just as beatuful, professional, as Exhale or any other place downtown. Massage is around 70, and 10 if you want to use the steamroom. Great layout here Real treat for Northsiders. Ann is my favorite! She is the only person I will let massage my back. I sit a lot at work and she always knows the knots I have and my back/neck/shoulders feel incredible afterwards. I've gone to other places if I have a coupon or deal somewhere..but I haven't found anyone who knows how to get rid of pain/knots as well as Ann. Went for a massage yesterday morning with my friend as she needed some time to relax before her wedding. I get massages once a month for quite awhile now, but honestly it was one of the best I have ever had! I was assigned Marianna (I think) and she was the best! Pressure was perfect for what I needed. I was sure to tell the girl on the phone that I'd like the $50 deal and booked an 11am appointment on a Wednesday. Walking in the woman at the desk was very nice. I told her the massage I wanted and about the $50 deal I saw online. She asked if I brought a coupon. I said no and that I told the woman on the phone about it. Plus I don't think there was a coupon...just the deal from 9-12. So she said ok, how about I charge you $55 and the massage will be a little better. I was reluctant and asked about the $50 deal again. She said for $55 I'd get a better massage. So I thought, I'm not going to argue, and paid $55 for the hour massage, which is still a deal, but not what I came in for. The massage was good, not great, but It was very relaxing. I'm giving this place two stars, one for cleanliness and the second because the staff is nice. I was given a mani-pedi as a gift by my fiancé but I have to say I was disappointed in the final result. For the amount paid, I just would've expected a better outcome. My cuticles look like a hack job and my entire nail wasn't even painted correctly. It's like she only painted the center part of my nails! I've gotten better no chip at mall nail salons. My fiancé even was disappointed with the result when I showed him. I don't think I will ever go back considering I'm not getting quality results for the price. My pedi was a little sloppy but was better than my no chip. The staff was nice but that doesn't make the low quality work better. I suggest investing in better training if you're gonna offer no chip. read more

LOVE that spa is open on Sundays! Had excellent massage from Tiffany on mothers day and used their steam room. Had seen some comments that steam extra cost, etc but for $10 was worth it as it is a PRIVATE steam room which is nice and different from catch-as-catch can with some other big name salons downtown. They also seemed pretty liberal with the time allowed in steam room. There's a shower, locker and similar set up you might find at an Urban Oasis or similar but without the same price tag. Think their pricing is completely reasonable and they frequently run specials (mothers day pkgs, etc.) which make it an easier choice to treat yourself. Again, the hours seem to accommodate a working mom's schedule with the Sunday hours. I'm a fan! read more

I don't know whether this is the place I would have gone had I researched massage therapists, etc. for several months, but after pulling a muscle in my upper back/neck while working-out this morning, I needed someone to save me from the constant pain and immobility of my neck. I was very pleasantly surprised, and will definitely go back. First, it's convenient, being just a few miles away and parking is great. It looks like a little nail salon, but once you go back to the rooms, it is nice and clean and comfortable and the woman who did my massage was absolutely perfect. This was my first time at a European spa let alone getting a Swedish massage for the very first time as well. Laura was assigned to me and I had a very pleasant experience itself. From the comfy stand I laid on to the ambiance of the room and calming music to the mind and soul. She helped target all of my tensed muscles and loosened up my knots from stress and working a desk job. She helped conduct some stretches with my arm and legs and it definitely made a difference. It is a tad bit costly than your regular massage place, but I think a Swedish massage is definitely worth it, to help loosen up muscles and knots. I'll definitely be returning here !! read more

Both were done by the same woman and she was amazing at both (her name escapes me at the moment). Before starting my facial she asked if I was pregnant or had any allergies, made me more comfortable since I am expecting! She was informative and gave my advice on how to care for my skin especially during pregnancy! The manicure and pedicure were amazing-my nails look and feel great! After reading reviews and being close to home, I went to this place as a treat to myself for my birthday... the place is very cute/cozy/modern and very very neat and clean. The owner Anna greeted me and was very nice and friendly. She guided me to the "Ladies Room" which had a bathroom, shower, lockers, and steam room. It was very modern and clean. She handed me a white robe, left towels on the bench next to the steam room and turned the steam room on. I used the steam room which was FANTASTIC! Not many places have steam rooms so I was very excited that they had a very nice one. Plus, it's a great way to detox! After the steam room, I showered and headed off to get my 1-hour deep tissue massage with Georgiana. I've had many many massages and absolutely love them. I have to be honest and say that Georgiana was "good," but when someone request a "deep tissue massage," that means you need someone with a bit of strength to work out the kinks in the muscles. Well... being that she was a thin european girl, she didn't have much strength/muscle to work it out. I think her hands shook more than what I was feeling! lol :) So to summarize, she would be best at a regular/gentler massage. I've definitely have had better massages. After my 1-hour massage, I was directed upstairs to get my 1-hour anti-aging facial with Hanadi. She was fantastic and my face was glowing afterwards! I will definitely be seeing her regularly. So my experience was a pretty darn good one, though I'll need to try out another masseus next time. And the only other thing that they should provide are comfortable disposable slippers. I walked barefoot until right before my facial then they gave me some hard/big black plastic slippers which weren't girly and I didn't like much. But all in all I would definitely recommend this place and for now, I give it 4 stars. read more

I love love love this place! My only regret is I cannot divide myself in two and go more often! I have so many issues with pain and I find this pleasurable and a respite for a while as it's truly amazing! One of their best things is they listen to what you want no matter which therapists you have as it is so very important to say how much is too much or if you need more pressure/work in one area you will truly become a regular. This review is way overdue but I'm a busy working mom, which made my experience at Thee European Spa that much more frustrating. I went for a facial around Christmas time because I had some Spa Finder gift cards and my trusty aesthetician whom I'd been going to for years had moved out of state. The receptionist was very sweet, which was the only positive. I cannot remember the aesthetician's name, though I'm not sure she was actually a real aesthetician now that I think about it. Worst. Facial. Ever. I have finally found a great aesthetician at Essence Medispa, and she and I laugh about this story because it is so bad. I was taken to a room with horrible pink sheets on the bed, though I would have been okay with that. She put the steam on me and left the room. For twenty minutes. I kid you not. I heard her starting a pedicure or something on the other side of the door. When she finally came back, she proceeded to tell me that her favorite part of doing a facial was the extractions. Then she extracted every single particle out of my poor face, massaged it for about 30 seconds, and put this cheap cucumber mask on me. I swear to God it was one of those 99 cent masks in a pouch you can buy at Walgreens. It was sticky and I found pieces of it in my hairline until I showered. Then, SHE LEFT AGAIN. FOR HALF AN HOUR. She was definitely performing another service because I could hear her with another customer. This was seriously one of the most ridiculous experiences of my life. If I had not had those gift cards and had spent my hard earned money on this joke of a facial, I probably would have lost my cool. I was angry enough that I'd spent my precious "me" time in the pink room waiting for a facial that never came, but I just left quietly. I will never go back. Never. read more

I am way behind in posting this, as my massage was probably 8 months ago. However, I had a fantastic one last night which reminded me of this not so great experience. This was, by far, the worst massage I've ever received. I asked for deep tissue, I am accustomed to it after years of back issues. The massage I received from Ann quite honestly felt like someone running baseball bats up and down (and side to side) my back, legs, arms and the bottom of my feet. I actually thought she was going to pull my arms out of my sockets. I have never been so uncomfortable and in so much pain after a massage. It took me four days to recover. Normally, about 24 hours after deep tissue, I feel great! But her force way over does her capacity to even find tight muscles. This was the worst money I've ever spent on a massage. The facility is nice and the receptionist accommodating. But that's not what I came for. I asked her four times to ease up - she said 'you do not like my technique?' and I said it was uncomfortable, and that I didn't care for the constant rubbing up and down directly on my spine.
