She was great to work with, having a low pressure approach to helping me with determining which cars to test drive and explaining all of the options on each vehicle. Yesterday, the finance manager at Thelen Honda, in the process of trying to sell us an extended warranty, lied and told us that the existing manufacturer warranty on the used 2020 Kia Soul with 50k miles would not transfer to a new owner, that it applied only to the first purchaser of the vehicle. Shady. The Thelen website says she's been in that job for 10 years. If her job is to sell warranties, there is a 0% chance it was an honest mistake. I'll never buy from Thelen. Too bad, too, because the car was great and our salesperson was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. But a coworker cost him his commission. read more

I would advise anyone considering a new or used car to go any place else but Thelen Honda. Can't speak to any of their other business since they sell many different brands, but definitely avoid Thelen Honda. The service department is especially suspect. Long waits, shady practices. Even though they acknowledged that one of their employees misrepresented (aka lied about) a particular product, they would not stand behind what their own employee promised. I'm no stranger to Honda. Used to love the brand. Here are 2 of the latest experiences: 1. My wife and I bought a 2018 C-RV EXL new in 2018. Mostly trouble free until the air conditioning unit quit working. Dealership re-charged the AC and it worked OK until it barely made it off warranty and then the AC unit bearing failed and to get it repaired at Thelen, it cost us $1,800. Even though the car was barely off warranty (in miles), no assistance. I contacted Honda corporate and filed a complaint pointing out that online, there were multiple issues reported with the AC units on 2018 C-RV's. After months of going back and forth, Honda corporate eventually issued me a check for $400 as a "goodwill gesture" and said if there ended up being a recall regarding this issue, they would refund the rest. Another year or so passed and Honda finally acknowledged an issue with the manufacturer and the bearing failure. They refunded the remaining amount. I wondered how many other C-RV owners were compensated that didn't go through the steps that I did. Fast forward to a few weeks ago... 2. I had helped my elderly sister to negotiate a deal to buy a new 2023 Honda C-RV in 2023 from Thelen. She had recently lost her husband and needed a vehicle she could rely on. Her C-RV started having issues a month or so ago. She lives on the West side of the state but was willing to drive up to the Bay City area in hopes that Thelen would give her better service because she bought the vehicle there. WRONG! In February 2025, I set up an appointment for her at Thelen and went in with her. Thelen assured me they would have a loaner car for her also (they didn't). Upon arriving at the service department, the service manager created a list of the items that were issues with the car including dash light gremlins, problems with the radio, and other issues. The service manager then tries to get my sister to sign a form stating that she will agree to pay over $700 out of pocket if any of the reported issues are found to be "outside influenced". I asked what that meant. They said it meant if they found an issue that wasn't normal wear and tear like a mouse eating wiring. I said I would understand the dealer not possibly covering issues like that, but where do they come up with the $700 charge. They explained that Thelen doesn't pay their technicians if they find an issue that isn't covered by warranty. Any person with half a brain knows this is total BS and is a money grabbing move by the dealership. I've never heard of that before, but after looking into it later, I found another Honda dealership that does the same thing. So...we left the dealership and then I contacted the salesperson at Thelen who sold my sister the car. I'll leave his name out of this because I'm not sure how much power he had to resolve the issue. I explained what had just happened an hour ago and he said he had the owner of the dealership sitting right across from him. He told me to come back into the dealership and they would take care of us and that the service manager would be calling us in a few minutes. We didn't get the call back from the service manager as promised so I called the salesperson again. He apologized and said we would get a call in a few minutes. One hour later...we got the call. The service manager sounded like he was going to waive the fee but when I pressed him to actually confirm this, he stumbled around with a word salad and finally admitted that nothing had changed and they would have to charge a fee for each reported problem that was "outside influenced". What a waste of time this was. For the record, this is a 2023 C-RV with 23,000 miles on it and garage kept. If you want to roll the dice with Honda and Thelen, it's up to you, but they lost more than one future customer that day. Good luck! read more

I took my 2021 HRV in because the AC wasn't working in higher temps. I bought the vehicle used at another dealer and also purchased a 3 year extended warranty. It took a week to get an appointment and when I took it in I informed them that I had an extended warranty but I brought the wrong paperwork. They told me that they couldn't do anything until they had a phone number to confirm the warranty. I called the dealer I bought it from and they gave me the number without any problem (seems like a good service center would do for you, but I let it pass) Then another guy finished checking me in because the first guy just left in the middle of it and after I told him the problem I was having suggested that humidity had an effect on the AC. I had never heard of this possibility so I asked him a few more questions and everything he suggested seemed like a warning about other problems. I told him that he seemed very negative and I wasn't sure about their abilities. So I told him that I would hope that whatever was needed would be under warranty and if not please call me and inform me if any charges would be involved. Three hours later after hearing nothing from them I called and they said that it was ready and they took out the old coolant and put in new coolant with a dye that would help them find any leaks after a 2 week period and it the bill was $399.67. No one called me about a possible charge or informed me of the possibility. It was $252.00 in labor just for one guy to empty and put in new coolant. I was so mad that I just went in and got my car out of there so they wouldn't charge me anything more. I wouldn't trust them to touch my car again. I will drive to Grand Blanc an hour away to avoid having to go back to them again. Total rip off and poor service. read more

Working with the team at Thelen Honda has been the best car buying experience I've ever had! I had come to MI for a couple days to visit family and wanted to see about trading in my parents' leased Accord for a new vehicle. On Friday, Garrett was fantastic helped me coordinate quotes and getting everything prepped via email so that we'd be ready when we came to test drive vehicles the next day. On Saturday, even though the dealership was busy and he was the only manager on duty, Patrick took the time to handle our trade-in, set us up with a great deal, coordinate the lease financing, and manage all of the paperwork to get us in the new Passport that day! It meant the world to me that we were able to get my parents into such a great vehicle, on a weekend, with such care and attention... and that I could head home that Sunday with everything taken care of. The care and hospitality that Garrett and Patrick showed our family has truly made us customers of Thelen for life! read more

My wife makes appointment for oil change which is covered under extended warranty for her Honda Pilot. She has used this at another dealer several times with no issue. When she gets there she was told they won't change the oil because the percentage was not at zero and goes on to claim this is part of the extended warrant. My wife has never heard this before and she has always changed the oil just before it went to zero. My wife called warranty company and they said not only is this not true, they never even heard of something like this. THEY ARE LIARS AND CHEATS. Their smug attitude towards her was disrespectful and shows a general DISRESPECT FOR WOMEN. This isn't the first Thelen dealership this occurred. They are bad news. read more

Went to get an alignment after replacing front upper ball join,lower ball joint, inner/outer tie rod, and both wheel bearings did them my self been working on my cars for years drove 1hr going 75 with no issues no wheel bearing noise at all they tell me my passenger side wheel bearing was loose i knew they were playing games so i got my keys still had to pay 90 they said total would have been 160 which over the phone they said alignment was 90 stealership do not take ur car for service unless its under warranty with them they don't even deserve one star read more

Don't buy a used car here!! They'll sell you a car with pieces WIRED together in it. They'll sell you a warranty for the car - which they technically can't if it hasn't been inspected. If you try to service the vehicle they'll keep it for 2 MONTHS then deny half of what was wrong with it. If it's not a Honda, they can't put it back together correctly leaving you with ongoing problems - that the warranty they sold you WON'T COVER because it's been previously tampered with. Then they'll deny they caused said problems. Just don't - and if you still do cuz you really want/need/love the car - then get it inspected somewhere else before you sign anything!! read more

So we brought our new van to Thelen Honda for a warranty fix with the DVD player. 2 entire days to diagnose the issue, 1 week for the part, and another full day to fix a broken wire. To start the frustration, we called the Honda help desk technician and he told us what the issue was BEFORE we brought it to the dealer. After two full days of diagnostics, the issue was exactly what we explained to the local technician was per Honda. Frustration #2 - once the part finally came in, Thelen kept the vehicle for a full day to fix. At this point we noticed several greasy fingerprints and boot prints all of the interior of our brand new $47,000 van! So I called them back and they had me bring it back a 4th time to clean it. Frustration #3. After the clean job, we brought the van back home. As we were packing up to leave out of town we, put the seats down for the first time only to discover - you guessed it - several greasy boot prints all of the back of the seats!! On top of that, there was a 2 inch broken piece of plastic off of the back of one chair! Again, this a BRAND NEW $47,000 VAN BEING TREATED LIKE A CHEAP RENTAL CAR BY THELEN TECHS!! THE WORST PART - The worst part is we have engaged with the ownership of the dealership (Patrick Thelen) who really doesn't seem to care a whole lot (and don't even get me started on the crooked sales process - we ended up buying our van from a Honda dealer 2+ hours away). Still waiting on his return call about the broken piece and resolution to the ruined interior which I confident I will not hear back. At least we get to keep the filthy rag and spare parts left in the trunk. I would like to note that Alex has always been great as has Chris. This failure falls on the ownership and lack of respect from the technicians. Too bad a 10 year multiproduct relationship has to end this way. UPDATE - on our road trip 3 hours after picking up our van - sun visor falls off the ceiling where the technician was working. Yes - nearly caused an accident. Found more finger prints under both visors. Still haven't had a return call from Thelen. read more

I was on my way home from vacation when the engine light in my Honda came on & it immediately began to lose acceleration on the interstate. After making our way into town & trying a couple of different mechanics (who were very kind but unable to help), we found the Honda dealership and it was an absolute Godsend. We were greeted by the kindest gentlemen who immediately looked at my car and found the issue. Because they would have to order the necessary part and it would take a few days to arrive, they literally patched everything back together to get my child & I home safely (100+ miles!). They refused payment of any kind for their time and help. We did arrive home safely and when I took my car in to our local Honda dealership the next day for service, they said that Thelen had done incredible work & it likely would've held up for quite some time. I'm going to be as nice as I can about this. I used to be an employee here. I was forced to quit because a coworker decided it was cool to discriminate me because of my hearing, and because I have been on doctors restrictions because of an emergency surgery, and nobody liked the idea that I could not do much work. I am deaf, and I was discriminated because of it. Second of all, this is not a place to be working. The employees in the service garage, they all smoke and vape marijuana. A few of them would go out at lunch and smoke, and a lot of them vape while they are working. Third of all, the owner, Pat Thelen, gives his employees bags of marijuana. I have witnessed it with my own eyes. They all share marijuana with each other. And fourth, there is one employee there that keeps a mini fridge full of beer. This is not the place to be working at all. It is a place for young kids especially when they like to sit around and inappropriately touch each other. It is a very unprofessional environment, as well as unsafe. I could go on with more complaints and things that I have seen, but I'm going to end it right here and let customers and people decide what they want to do. read more

We have purchased at least 5 Honda vehicles from Thelen Honda. For years we have had the vehicles serviced there also. With my most recent service of 750 dollars I found Thelen Honda customer service lacking. The ON LINE coupon was not honored at the visit as I remembered the coupon right after payment. I felt I could have been offered a gift card for future service at least. Also I did not get offered the oil change punch with my oil change where I would get free oil change after 4 punches. BEWARE of ON LINE COUPONS and print before bringing your vehicle to Thelen if you choose their service as they will NOT notify you of deals even if you are a loyal customer as we had been. Also BE AWARE their is a Honda loyalty discount if purchasing a new vehicle with them if you have had Honda's in past. We learned this from a different Michigan Honda dealer who brought the savings to our attention which Thelen sales did not. read more

Told that we needed a $100 pinion for a wheel, which turned into a $520 bill and all 4 pinions needing to be replaced. Upon further inspection, suddenly the power steering was leaking (never saw anything pooling on pavement) and our $520 was over $2000! Took the Honda right over to Bay Auto Care where they took great care of us. Don't bother with Thalen unless you want to shell out money for things that are not emergent or need to be done... maybe ever! Could not believe how poorly we were taken care of and what swindlers they were. Sad. read more

I personally have been to many Honda dealerships and never had any issues but here I was never greeted appropriately , my Honda coupon was not honored and when I went to pick up my car I was never guided where it would be .
