On Monday, April 13, 2026, we called Theodore Veterinary Hospital to ask about the cost of cremating our 14-year-old Labrador, "Half-Pint". Since we are both retired, we needed to know the price in advance. We were told that the basic package was $200 and that packages increased to almost $400 depending on what you wanted. We said we wanted the basic package for $200. Upon arriving with our dying family member and pet (Half-Pint), we asked to have her humanely put down and cremated only to be informed that the price of cremation was now $289 after being told just an hour before that it was $200. Not only that, they kept trying to sell us packages of up to $400 as we were grieving. We have been customers for over a year only to have them lie, deceive, and prey on us during this very emotional and painful time. I told them that this is not what we were told and we wanted the $200 basic package we were quoted. The technician said she understood and went to get the manager. While we were waiting, a second technician came in with the same options and also tried to sell us a more expensive package. The manager nonchalantly walked into the room where I had to explain everything all over again all while the dog lay there suffering. The manager said there was nothing she could do and that the girl up front had quoted the wrong price. I told her this was deceiving and we should not have to be dealing with this on top of losing our pet. She said, "What do you want me to do?" I said ,"Honor the price we were quoted." She said," I can't do that." As I left to get our vehicle, one of the girls at the front desk asked if everything was alright, I told her, in front of other customers standing there listening what was going on. The manager walked up and got in my face and said I needed to go that there were customers standing there listening and I told them they better leave if they didn't want to be lied to and deceived because you can't trust what these people tell you. Theodore Veterinary Hospital was going to charge us over $500 for euthanasia and cremation. We called our former vet in Baldwin County and they said they would take care of her. Their fee for the same procedure was under $400. They seemed more concerned with what we were going through with losing a member of our family. I was left with not being there for my family because I had to take my 89 year old mother to the doctor that morning so I could not be there for my wife or my pet and family member when she was put to sleep. This stressful situation with Theodore Veterinary Hospital caused my heart condition to act up as they were only interested in making as much money as they could off of our distress and pain of losing our family member "Half-Pint". read more

Everytime I've called ahead for medicine asking it to be ready it's not even though I was assured it would be. Then today when I had to wait AGAIN and they were trying to charge me $40 more what I paid for 3 months ago for the exact same thing. Saddest part of all this is it was the office manager who I was dealing with. She could've let me know the medication was not ready before she left the front counter and was gone. Pretty sad as an office manager she had such bad customer service! On a positive note. They were fantastic when my fur baby was sick and everyone else is wonderful that works there. If you don't mind an office manager with poor customer service skills it's a great place to go. read more

Great experience start to finish, which was not at all what I expected. Our eleven-year-old Australian Shepherd has laryngeal paralysis. Two days ago, she was in the yard which she fell, yelping in pain. Yesterday, she was lethargic which - if you have an Aussie - you know is wildly atypical. I thought the paralysis had taken its toll and we would have to put her down. Kathy made our appointment. She was empathetic and very helpful over the phone. When we arrived, the receptionist and the vet tech were each super nice and very professional. Dr. Gilson examined Tinkerbelle thoroughly. He explained the utility of each diagnostic and treatment option he recommended, and he quoted us the price. He found that she had fairly extensive osteoarthritis and recommended treatment. Our story had a happy ending because we arrived fearing it was time to euthanize and discovered our dog's problem was treatable. It's also a happy ending because, had it turned out it was time to let our dog go, I feel confident they would have handled that outcome with skill and compassion. Every interaction was excellent. We've had dogs for over 30 years, and we've had a range of experiences with veterinarians over the years. Retired, we now split time between Colorado and Alabama. When we are in Alabama, Dr. Gilson is our new vet and Theodore Veterinary Hospital is our new clinic. read more

If I could give it no stars I would. I have only used them since January 24. Took my pup in for a heartworm test and to have some lymphoedema on his leg checked. They took him to another room he was screaming in pain. The Dr. Came bk and said no fluid. He stuck him with no pain relief. I can't tell you how mad that made me. I got my first heartworm medicine and was told I had to use their pharmacy. Each time I ordered the price went up. The last order was almost 50 for one pill. I called to get the prescription so I could order some place cheaper. I was advised I would have to pay for the prescription to get a copy of it. I would think that was covered in the price of the first visit. So I advise you unless you have unlimited funds, and want a jerk treating your baby go anywhere but here. I finally got someone ( not here) to fill my prescription. If you love your baby stay away from them. read more

I had to have acl surgery on one of my dogs and Dr. Meyers was very knowledgable and made me feel at ease I had a sago palm poisoning on another one of my boys and Dr. Boucher and Gilson were amazing both of my boys are doing great now I also want to add that Emily Askew *vet tech) was phenomenal in all that she did to help me get them in to be seen and treated as quickly as possible and to keep me posted during the day, evening and night as well as the weekends when they were there. If it had not been for her and the expertise of these vets I would not have referred my daughter there with her dog for stomach surgery. February 2023 I take my open mouth breathing cat in, panicked, I immediately let the doctor know my concerns that it's her heart as even though I had taken her there 3-4 maybe more times at that point they had NEVER checked her heart or even her chest area. So I ask if that's it. I get told immediately without Carl Meyer even THINKING of another possibility that she is and I quote "stressing herself out from allergies". Even when I keep on and say but I've never seen her do this her allergies just make her itchy are you sure? He acted like I have no idea what i'm talking about and said she's fine. At that point she was, he got her stable and we went home. I took her in july all was fine and then this past week I take her back, she is open mouth breathing again. I go she's having that asthma type attack from allergies again EXCEPT this time Carl Meyers says no it's definitely something more probably her heart??? Are you KIDDING me. I said that. I rushed her in saying that. Now Im being told she's in heart failure. There's nothing that can be done. As long as no one thinks about the whole Y E A R of time we had to diagnose her and assess if we can do anything to make her 1. comfortable 2. live as long as she can comfortably I don't wish this on anyone. What I did wrong was believing a person would not be trying to just get me and my cat out of there and actually would just do their job take my money and figure out what is the real problem not just assume you know what it is. I had to put her down. She was 3. Had been going to the vet since I got her at 10 months. OFTEN. Her name was Suzuki and I would never take a cat here. Avoid this clinic at all costs! I've been taking my dogs to Theodore for about 8 months now. We visit monthly for injections and other services, always with an appointment, yet we consistently wait 30-45 minutes to be seen. The reception is clueless about what's happening in the office. Aside from this, our most recent experience with this clinic is beyond horrifying - We took one of our dogs (Gemma) in for surgery to remove a bothersome lump. She ended up having a terrible post-op recovery after this surgery, shockingly the clinic actually called to check after her surgery (I was floored by this given my previous interactions with staff). I explained what was going on and we decided to give it one more day and then bring her back if she still was having a rough time (they said some times dogs can have adverse reactions to ISO (anesthetic) - not in my experience, with this or any other dog, but ok - they're supposed to be the experts). She was still not better the next day and I called the right away. I explained she is still having issues & I was very concerned with her gum color being pale (I have previous experience in animal hospitals and I am no doctor but know that is serious). I took her back in for more testing, I was told everything looks good (gums look fine) and sometimes this just happens (again, never in my experience does this just happen after a surgery). Gemma continued to have a hard recovery, but did get better, eventually (we never received another call from Theodore to check on her progress). We took her back a few weeks later for her routine injection and when we did I asked specifically about her weight (as she had this terrible recovery & had lost some weight with that). The receptionist said well they didn't write it down, to which I responded well can you ask? Eventually I got the weight information & asked reception, is that less then when she was here a few weeks ago? The receptionist callously responded back to this question with, well its good for her to lose weight because of her joints. I was floored by this - first of all a receptionist should NEVER say anything about my concerns for my pet, she is NOT credentialed to do so. All she should ask is if she should raise those concerns to the doctor. I looked at her and just said well she had that terrible surgery recovery and we are keeping tabs (I also thought how do you all still not know us or our pets? We are here all the time!). She said nothing back to me and did not offer to ask her doctor either. When I left there I vowed to never return- it was clear they did not care about Gemma. Another few weeks passed & Gemma continued to have issues, so we took her to another vet where she was diagnosed with cancer, this was the problem all along. I understand things can get missed but the fact that I raised multiple concerns about her color & weight loss and was told by Theodore that her color is fine and weight loss is good for her joints when Gemma had cancer, in multiple areas of her body, it was heartbreaking - how could this be, we took her in and she was given a clean bill of health by Theodore. I called Theodore when I got the news, I explained I wanted to tell the doctor about how reception brushed my concerns off (so it does not happen to anyone else in the future - they clearly need more training) and discuss her last visit. I wanted to see if we were missing anything to do to keep her comfortable & possibly get a time table on things. I wanted to speak to her doctor to get information about what we did know, since all the recent testing was there - that's it. I called multiple times and left multiple messages for Dr. Stevens (messages left with Whitney). I never received a call back. Sadly, Gemma's condition worsened, and we had to put her down about a week and a half later. This clinic clearly prioritizes neither patient health nor client relations. I think Dr. Myer and his medical staff are excellent. Not so much his office staff. I had an appointment to have my Chihuahua's teeth cleaned. I was instructed to bring my pet to the office between 7:30 and 8:30am. I arrived at 8:30am and checked in. I waited in my car because the waiting room was filled with dogs and their owners. 55 minutes later they called me to come in. Really? Drop your pet off takes 55 minutes? Where is their respect for my time? I certainly respect theirs. Btw - at 45 minutes I left. Appointments work both ways. read more

My ratings rules (for physicians, clinics, veterinarians, etc.): One star for cleanliness/orderliness. One star for courteous/friendly staff. One star for minimal waiting/response time. One star for knowledgeability. One star for sensitivity to needs. Cost: Less than $40 for a standard office visit (meds and treatments excluded). Special perks: Patient table which allows your pet to step on it from the ground, and lifts up (prevents need for lifting your heavy pet onto the table); digital vetscope (a monitor that lets you see what the vet is seeing when using something like an otoscope, or a scope viewing the inner ear); emergency services; pain management; suite boarding as well as indoor/outdoor kennels. Being new to the area and not knowing anyone to refer me to a good veterinarian, I had to just jump the gun and choose one. I'm glad I selected these folks. They are close to where I live, and I was impressed with the infinite number of services they offer. Those services are so numerous that I couldn't possibly list them all here, so it's better to peruse their website if you're interested. We saw Dr. Sidel, who was very friendly, amusing and helpful. He was very kind and gentle toward our dog, which wins serious points. He also appeared to be very knowledgeable, but this was a standard puppy exam (we had just adopted a rescue pup) so I can't say that with too much authority. The facility is very clean and we didn't have to wait very long to be seen. Because they offer services such as pain management and "behavioral medicine", it appears that they are sensitive to the needs of your pet(s). I've not yet tried their boarding service, but I plan to in the future. I'm also not yet sure what the charge is on boarding, but a simple call would answer that. What they do offer though are suite rooms with TV's and beds (which can be viewed at their website), as well as your standard indoor/outdoor kennel. The kennels are double fenced, for safety - a big requirement. All in all I was very pleased and definitely plan on using them exclusively. My senior dog is scheduled for an appointment on 2/16 and I'll update this review if needed. read more

I recently had both of my great danes laprascopically spayed and had their stomachs tacked.Both are doing fantastic. Dr. Meyers is excellent at what he does. He teaches other veterinarians from all over the country how to do the stomach tacking. His assistant Paul was very patient and answered all of my questions. He even got their employee that has Danes to come in and speak with me. The front office ladies are very friendly and heloful. The veterinary techs and assistants are great, too. I even got a video of the stomach tacking! After getting the Danes spayed, I took in my lab for her yearly exam. Dr. Meyers walked in the room and asked why her abdomen was so distended. He took x rays and found she had a tumor that needed emergency surgery. He even stayed over 2 hours late to do the surgery himself. Top notch facility, totally worth the 30 minute drive. I will not trust anyone else with my pets. read more

I am new to the area and had been to another vet in the area for my sick puppy. I was sent to this clinic because they have ultrasound. This is an impressive clinic with well educated, caring, brilliant doctors. The clinic has the latest and greatest technology available! This clinic actually has a doctor that teaches endoscopy to other doctors! They do laser surgery which is amazing as so much less risk than to have a pet have a huge incision. I received aome very bad news for my baby, but i felt like she was in the very best hands! I highly recommend this clinic for the care if your pet. read more

I have been using Dr Myers and this facility for many many years. I often thought my Golden Retriever Teeque loved Dr Myers more than he loved us. Dr Myers excellent care gave Teeque an extra 3 years of life. Our special Golden Higgs has received remarkable care through his lymphoma. He continues to survive and survive well with his treatment. Dr Elstner has been sympathetic, profession, helpful and right on the mark with Higgs treatment. Finally last but not at least the Staff is professional, helpful and ever so kind. read more

We had a wonderful experience here. We were told our 5lb Chihuahua needed her gall bladder removed and were referred to a surgeon. I contacted Dr. Myers and he worked us in. After checking on her and running his own tests, it was determined she did not need surgery. They also discovered she had a disk problem in her back. She is now being treated with medications. They went above and beyond communicating with us regarding the status and how she was doing. Couldn't be happier with our experience. read more

Such a great place!! We had to take in our 2 yr old Doberman, Ruby for surgery related to a blockage in her intestines. She had the surgery and has had to stay longer than expected due to her not wanting to eat yet. Of course we have called multiple times a day for the past 3 days to get updates. They always are so nice and helpful on the phone and Dr. Hodges calls every morning to talk to us and update us on her condition. He even came in on his day off to check on her. We can not that them enough for the great care they gave our sweet Ruby, we have been going to them for 8yrs and have never been disappointed!!! read more

It's been a while since I've been here, but I drove by, and thought: I better spread the word about how terrible this vet is. So, the front desk folks are consistently unfriendly and unhelpful. I sent my dog back for a nail trim, and I asked if they could check her paw pad (which was bothering her), and let me know if she needed anything done. During what I thought was just a nail trim, they treated her (without coming to get me). Their treatment involved name-brand medications (an antibiotic and Deramaxx), and a bill for about $120.00. I was in shock. I guess the vet was too busy to talk to me. I only ever went here for nail trims in the past, and one time I took my older pup, and they were rude and displayed an almost criminal level of apathy (and lack of empathy). These people should be ashamed at the prices they charge, and the poor level of care. I feel like they take advantage of lower income folks by overwhelming them with treatment options they can't really afford. I notice that their electronic billboard displays costly treatment options, such as ACL surgery and dental repair, and I'm sure this is right up the over-prices alley. Update: Thankfully, the owner tipped his hand, and helped validate my review. Notice that two positive reviews appeared hours after mine. Also, the rapidity of his response makes me wonder if maybe my review struck a cord. Whatever the prices are, there are just better vets in town. Thankfully, like my electrician and family physician, there are plenty to choose from, so look elsewhere. read more

Had to make an emergency vet visit while visiting down here. Our dog was in extreme pain due to joint problems. We stopped in without an appointment and got dr. Meyers to look at our dog. Him and his staff completely exceeded our expectations. Even though we weren't one of their regulars, they took care of our dog like he was one of their own. They saved us hundreds of dollars and had our dog feeling better within days of medication. Definitely recommend this clinic for anyone who wants someone to care for their pets. read more

So here it is 4 months later and I have been all across the panhandle from Panama City west to Biloxi with my job and my pooches have seen 5 new vets. Not one asked me about my Drivers license. I asked 2 of them if they had ever heard of such a rule as to copy people DL and none had and thought it quite peculiar. Had I tried to pay by check I would expect they need ID for that in case a check bounces so you can prosecute the right person.That is when you ask for the DL. You don't need it on everyone. I always pay cash so the vets don't have to pay the visa fees. Laws for dogs are not like they are for people and I don't compare my seeing a doctor or pharmacy with my pets. Mostly human laws are stricter for insurance fraud purposes and HIPPA laws. This is not the case at a vets office. Find out how the person intends to pay their bill before you start coping personal information as you are not under the same guidelines as people doctors and if you don't trust people before they even check in, why would they trust you with their pets? Admit it Darwin, you are just a jerk and make the doctors business look bad. If you are going to get your panties in a wad maybe your boyfriend should support you so you don't have to work. Yep 12 vets and not 1 asked me for a DL. BTW just how much narcotics to you prescribe that you might be using other people's personal info for yourself. How do we know you are not? How do we know what your report or put on our records??? Hmmmmm Darwin? Odd you are the only office person that does this. I had high hopes when I brought my Aussie in for treatment .Could I have found a new vet for my two pups? Absolutely NOT!!! Took my 8 year old Australian Shepherd in just to make sure that there were no bones in his throat after I caught him in the garbage surrounded by turkey bones. When I picked him up the bill was a whopping $600.00. I was floored to say the least! Their six hundred dollar diagnosis was he's overweight and anorexic. Really??? I am in town visiting family for the holidays. My mother-in-law had previously asked if I could go to the vet with her while I was here as she is handicapped. I was actually thrilled as I am a recently retired veterinary technician/hospital manager and had been so for nearly 30 years. While I love being retired I surely miss it. Entering the hospital I was very impressed. It is very nice and extremely clean. We were promptly put into a room. Shortly thereafter a young lady (never introduced herself) came in to discuss why we were there. When I questioned her about a few of the vaccines she left the room without word. Next another young lady came in (again no introduction) and I asked if she was the doctor. She said no that she was here to see what we wanted done today. I told her each item for each dog and she wrote everything down and also abruptly left the room. Next another young lady came in (no introduction) and again I asked if she was the doctor. No. She was a technician and was there to see what we wanted done today!!! Again I explained. She said "I feel like you are attacking me and You are hateful". I cried. (She certainly should have held her tongue) I am not hateful in the least. I am an extremely compassionate 55 year old woman who has spent her entire life caring for small animals. My feelings were so hurt it bothered me all day. Now it begins to dawn on me that because I was not asking for exactly what they thought I should, they were unhappy with me. My in-laws are handicapped, in their 80's, and on a very fixed income. I was able to save them $25 without compromising the dogs' health. She then was going to take the dog in the back to do these things. I never trust a vet that does that and I am positive my dog is much happier being with me in a stressful situation. In all my career I have never separated an owner from his pet with the exception of surgery. When they began it was evident very quickly why they take the dogs to the back as they were quite incompetent. So much for being thrilled about going to the vet. Also, I wonder about their pricing ie a rabies vaccine that lasts 1 year is $13.50, and the very same vaccine that lasts 3 years is $42.50. More than three times the cost! At my clinic they were each $13.50, 1 year or 3 year. The cost to the clinic was the same. I have to say I've never been treated so poorly. A little professional courtesy here would have gone a long way. Instead they've lost a client. Here it is 12 hours later and I am still tearing up over being called hateful. I would never take my own dog to this clinic. If they can't even be nice to the owners, how are they treating the pets in the back, out of sight. read more

Short review: overpriced & negligent (poor quality of care) would not refer anyone to this clinic. Extended Version: My cat is 14 years old and was very healthy until a few months back when he stopped eating and I took him into one of the clinics that I go to regularly. Because they were uncertain of what was causing his appetite to diminish they referred me to TVH. He ended up staying a week and cost about $1000 for his stay there testing etc At the end of his stay they relayed that they thought that he had Pneumonia or Bronchitis. A few weeks later he continued to lose weight and I brought him back & they examined him again & diagnosed him w/Giardia & tape worms. I gave him the medication for both as directed to no avail. A friend of mine who owns a local shelter asked me if they had checked his mouth for an infection. I almost dismissed that bc that seemed like a no brainer that they would examine as standard protocol but I call and asked if they had done so just to err on the side of caution. The lady who answered the phone informed me that the vet who had treated Cow was out of the country but that she is thorough and that would have been part of the routine checkup. I was also told by her and another lady who had answered that he most likely had both the tape worms & Giardia at the time of his week stay & that they had no reason to check his stool during that stay (evidently this is how they find these parasites). I took the lady for her word and waited another 3 weeks as I was told the meds should take care of the parasites & appetite should go back to normal. This did not happen & on the last day of the second round I took him back for another examination & requested that they check his mouth. They did check his mouth & he did indeed have an infection which the vet said himself it was possible that Cow had this at the time of his last appointment and that it was missed "anything is possible." This was not reassuring to me that they had missed the parasites & the mouth infection & they did not offer to make it right or waive the fee of visit. Just the checkup to tell me he had an infection in his mouth (that I asked them to check for who knows if they would have ever even noticed) & doing the same labs they did a few weeks ago (still not sure why they did the same ones twice just a few weeks apart) cost a little less then half a grand. Took him back for his next follow up appointment today to find that he has lost even more weight & the doctor DID NOT even check the infection in his mouth only gave him a shot & when asked if he was going to check the infection since this was a check up he relayed that the cat was angry now & that he was not going to check it. Billed me $100 for the read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!! My newly adopted dog was spayed here recently and when we picked her up, they gave us absolutely no aftercare instructions. I asked some questions and just found out the rest online. They did tell us that she had hook worms and explained that only because they wanted us to buy the deworming medicine. Also, her paperwork said that her pregnancy test came back negative. However, my husband just called and spoke with someone who says that she was actually 4 weeks pregnant with 6-7 puppies!!! So not only did they not tell us but they lied on her paperwork!! They front desk staff is also very unfriendly. read more

Front staff is beyond rude. If your looking for a place to go when you first walk in and like a good first impression find somewhere else to go. I would never come back to this place. Theodore Veterinary Hospital saved our boy Buzz! I was so impressed with the doctors and staff. We have been to several clinics in our are and have been treating him for months for something that was never even a problem. I was so incredibly impressed with the way they took care of my boy, it was almost as if he was one of their own pets.
