I went to Kessler Saddle Brook after an intensive knee surgery. I had never been to an acute care…read morefacility before and did not know what to expect. I cannot tell you how pleasantly surprised I was by the care I received by every single person on my team, from the moment I arrived to the moment I left two weeks later. I can actually envision myself walking better than I have in years, thanks to the PT I received at Kessler. Special thanks to Rob and Emily, whose approach gave me confidence to push myself during daily 3 hour PT and OT sessions. Also, I appreciated the care by Ducky and Helayna, always going the extra mile to see that I was comfortable. I would highly recommend Kessler for post-op care.

This actually happened at the facility in Chester but I was told all the Kesslers use the same…read morepolicies and I can't find a way to review the Chester location. WARNING if you use Kessler for in-patient rehab for yourself or a loved one (or any rehab, as this could occur elsewhere). If the patient has joint surgery, especially hip or knee, or is otherwise at high risk of pulmonary embolism and should be wearing IPC devices (alternating pressure cuffs) PLEASE CHECK with Kessler, before agreeing to discharge there from the hospital, that they will put the cuffs on within a few hours. They accepted my family member from Morristown Medical Center, where she had the cuffs on, and their own doctor ordered that she should continue wearing them to prevent PE. But unbenownst to me, Kessler has a policy of doing a doppler before putting the cuffs on-- even if they've already been on continuously at the hosptial-- and they admitted her when they would not have technician available. They left my family member laying immobile for 15 hours without the devices and she died of presumed PE before they ever got around to it. I wrote them and asked them to change their policy to either put the cuffs on patients without doing a doppler like the hospital does or to delay admission until they have doppler technicians available-- i.e. to stop taking patients who need the cuffs and leaving them without the cuffs for longer than recommended. The president of Kessler called me today to say they'll look into it but "I'm not going to tell you if we change our policies." I have no idea if they're going to change anything. IPC cuffs can significantly reduce PE risk for immobile patients in the days after surgery. So please, DO NOT go to Kessler after a joint procedure without confirming they'll use them if the doctor says the patient should wear them. In fact, confirm IPC device use with any rehab prior to discharge if the hospital is using them and the patient is still in the high risk period. Kessler Foundation also sent a donation request addressed to my dead family member weeks after she died there and weeks after I'd written the complaint asking them to change their procedures. Addressed to the patient who died there. Asking her to send them money. The president did agree this shouldn't happen and said he would try to prevent it from happening to other people. What he did not agree to do was stop accepting patients who need IPC cuffs during times when they have no intention of putting them on.

They all work as a team and the physical therapists all are helpful to each others patients. My physical therapist Roy is very knowledgeable and experienced and he examines you and make sure he listens to your symptoms. He genuinely cares about my recovery. Roy really treated me like a family and always wanted to know what kind of day I had. Alex is very knowledgeable, patient and caring. Roy, Alex and the physical therapists tech showed that they cared about my well-being and my recovery. My time at IvyRehab was a enjoyable experience which makes my recovery exceptional. I went to IvyRehab in pain and after treatment ended each time I went home with a smile. Even when I was not at treatment IvyRehab still always wanted to know how I was doing. Lastly I wanted to thank IvyRehab for their hard work helping me not only with my pain but caring for me as a person. I will definitely give them a five star rating and will always recommend them to family and friends.

I called several rehab facilities, and when I called and spoke to Wendy, the Office Receptionist (not sure of her title...), I knew I found the right place, Wendy was professional, knowledgeable, and kind. She navigated my insurance coverage and scheduled the 11 appointments. Then, I had hand/thumb therapy with their two occupational therapists: Julia and Adrienne...and found them to be extremely kind, knowledgeable, friendly, and happy therapists - perfect! Thankfully, my thumb/hand feels so much better and highly recommend this Fair Lawn facility! Wendy, Julia, and Adrienne, deserve a huge raise...they represent the finest in therapists. A BIG thank you!

Now that I've been to several physical therapists, I know what to compare my experiences to. This place is extremely disorganized and it seems as if they don't know what they're doing. The first couple of times coming here, i saw someone different every time. And each person I saw didn't get passed on information from the person prior. I had to repeatedly explain my situation. God forbid you miss an appointment these people will call your phone 30 times and leave messages until you finally pick up. When it came to the actual therapy, everything I did here was stuff I could do at home. They didn't incorporate any equipment and focused on one thing instead of the multiple issues I had recovering from my surgery. I'm happy to say I'm in a much better place now and I can't believe I put up with what I went through here.

When I got back from the trip, I went to see a podiatrist for my ankle issues. He recommended SportsMed in Clifton. The physical therapists are really good. Brian is one of the nicest physical therapists there. He knows his stuff. Dr Adams is really nice and had the therapists teach me to walk a bit differently. I was very pleased with this aspect of SportsMed. With that being said, the office staff (seems like the corporate office is in Glen Rock) needs to improve as to how they communicate with patients and when to do so. There was a check that went missing after one year. I was called during my working hours about this. The person wanted me to contact my insurance to get another check reissued. Although I was busy at work, I contacted the insurance company. I was on the phone for an hour with the insurance rep and a rep from SportsMed. The insurance rep said that they would reissue the check and it would take one month to do so. Three weeks later, I get a call from the SportsMed rep asking me why the check hasn't arrived. I told her that she was on the phone with me when the insurance rep stated that it would take one month. She said ok. I called the insurance company. They had told me that the check was still being processed and it would be mailed within the next week or two. It was sent to me the following week and I delivered it to SportsMed. After this issue was resolved, I get another call from the SportsMed office the following week during working hours. They had left a message to call them back, which sounded urgent. I was not happy with this since I had to leave my desk at a busy time. I went to a conference room and called them back. They called to check up on me and to promote their new location in Paterson. I was ticked off and told them that that they were calling me at the wrong time. I also mentioned that I was not interested in their Paterson location. SportsMed has really good physical therapists. However, the corporate office needs to improve upon their communication skills. They need to realize that their patients might be at work when they are calling. I would suggest that they send an email and/or text message stating briefly what the issue is and to tell the patient to call them at their earliest convenience. In case of a promotion of a new office, a simple email will do. As a result, I'm a bit iffy regarding returning if I ever need physical therapy again.
