Just the perfect amount of friendly support and therapy. I highly recommend Train Boston for knee recovery after replacement.

The general…read morelow-down is as follows: -Terry, the general manager, is friendly, outgoing, and around to take care of things as necessary. -The front desk folks have been cranky and ill tempered once or twice, but I guess that's life. -More importantly, the PTs I work with, Jeff and his minion Mary Kate, are doing awesome by me. A little history: I worked with a PT only once before. There was a misdiagnosis that wasn't the PT's fault, but nonetheless, the frustration of an injury that didn't heal left me a bit wary of PTs in general. You *have* to do PT after ACL surgery, so I stuffed my wariness into a little box in my closet, and, buoyed by my surgeon's confidence in Train Boston and a friend/mentor's confidence in Jeff's work, I signed up for PT. Confidence restored. Jeff and Mary Kate explain everything, answer all my questions patiently (and probably repeatedly), and keep me from doing stupid things without getting tetchy about the fact that I do stupid things once in a while. They're doing an admirable job working with me to get back to BJJ and Judo. This has included acting as demonstration dummies (which is like volunteering to be a jungle gym for a monkey on meth) and getting feedback from me regarding things to focus on. I like the emphasis on communication and the chance to contribute to my rehab plan, instead of orders handed down from on high. Everybody seems to have their own rendition of "PT sucks." Even my PT friends joke that the acronym stands for "pain and torture." Frankly, my PT sessions have been notable for the absence of pain and torture. Yes, I sweat. And yes, occasionally I'll get overzealous doing my at-home exercises and show up for PT with a limp, a whine, and a silent fear that I've ruined everything and I might as well cut it all off and get a wooden peg installed instead. But the crying and swearing that everyone promised would be in the offing? Not thus far.

I was referred to a doctor named Miegel which might as well have been Mengele. He ordered a deep tissue cortisone shot that are supposed to last for six months. When I came back two weeks later as if I had never gotten the shot at all, I told him and he simply said "well, your not getting another shot so you may as well take two Advil a day and come back when your 50," I was too taken aback to say anything. So my dad and a number of people mentioned Newton Wellesley. From the moment I walked in the door I felt like their number one priority. Dr Laurie Katz was my first Doc who asked me what was up, I told her severe arthritis. She kind of said "okay" with some apropos sarcasm. She came back with her X-rays and turned ghost white "I thought you were kidding or got something from webMD, but this is bad. I haven't seen arthritis this bad in a long time. She immediately put me in touch with a surgeon in her group, Dr Hanmer. They decided to try another cortisone shot-because these hips don't last forever-one more time being SO young for a hip. Well, 6 days later and the pain was back. The shot did work for few days and I psyched, going up stairs without a railing or run out into the street to get a child out of danger but alas, 6 days instead months, they scheduled my surgery a moth later. It was a four hour procedure, I was out the WHOLE time. I don't want to get people's hopes up, and part of it is because I'm 34, the surgery was Wed June 3, they had me on a walker the morning of Thurs June 4th. Later that day, they gave me crutches to walk with, at the end of the walk she had me going up and down stairs! I was out of their the next morning. A lot of follow up visits, but I feel great and would recommend it to Newton Wellesley orthopedics to anyone: from beside manner; to food. Just an all around well oiled machine, good luck to you if need surgery, but at Newton Wellesley you couldn't be in better hand

Just being in her presence makes me feel better. Raquel doesn't just treat the "problem." She treats the whole person and makes a point of getting to know you and helping you have faith in the healing process. She gives you exercises to do at home, so be prepared to put in work between visits to get the most out of each session. You also have to continue these exercises to maintain your gains. The office is clean and decorated with positive affirmations, which I love. Her office manager who answers the phone is extremely friendly and helpful and gets back to you right away. Raquel books several months out, but if you get on the cancellation list they will fit you in to ensure regular appointments. When I first came to see Raquel, I was unable to have sex at all due to severe vaginismus and vulvodynia. She gave me hope and was a bright ray of light during a very bleak time in my life. Now, thanks to Raquel, I have regular pain free sex with my boyfriend, which at one point I didn't think would ever be possible. I highly recommend her services and would give her more than 5 stars if I could do that on Yelp.

Raquel has training and experience to help with a variety of issues. Her technique is to teach and then give support through training her clients/patients to help themselves. She is fun, in a very professional confident way. I too have addressed some of these issues with another PT for pelvic floor without the results Raquel gets. Sometimes convenience of location does not measure with the care one can get. For me it is/was worth the drive to receive her care. She has such a strong compassion for 'her people'. She is a strong woman who enjoys her clients and easily finds the best way to help. Her receptionist is caring as well. It may take time for you to get an appointment, but it is well worth the wait. They try to get a series of appointments booked but it seems there are always clients waiting for any cancellations if you are feeling better sooner. I will be forever grateful for the help and support for my experience with Raquel (even while I needed to return after years of hiatus from her support), and recommend her to anyone who is in need of this type of therapy. She is a gem, a true gift to yourself!
