She shared interesting stories about the neighborhood and the restaurants, which made it feel more like exploring the area with a knowledgeable friend rather than a typical tour. The food was delicious and plentiful, and we even met some really nice new friends along the way. Our very first Six Taste tour was actually the Arts District tour back in 2016, so it was special to return ten years later and experience it again. Over the years we've also enjoyed their tours in Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Thai Town, Koreatown, and Little Tokyo. Compared to other "food tours", this tour offers less to the gourmand but much more to those that want an insider's guide to Newport Beach. The tour lasted about 4 hours and included stops for food for oatmeal, salt water taffy, ahi tuna nachos, olive oil and vinegar, calamari, and ice cream. In between, leisurely strolling to observe noteworthy Balboa Island homes and historic landmarks. I have lived in the area for 15 years and learned a lot of interesting things about Balboa Island and Balboa Peninsula. Christa is a friendly and knowledgeable guide. The tour is free and lasted about an hour long. The tour consists of two parts. The first is mainly introduction to the history of the Yakult drink, how it came about, and the benefits of the drink. We got to sample the drinks, both the red and blue bottles. The red bottle is the standard sweetness while the blue bottle has less sugar. The second part is the actual tour of the factory where they produce the drinks. We got to see the different rooms on how the drinks are made, from making the probiotics, to quality control, to bottling, and all the way to packaging for shipment. We were not allowed to take any photos or videos for the second part of the tour. It was very fun and informative. We had a great time here. OC Meets Napa and Baja, presented by Community Health Center AltaMed, brought primarily Latino-centric restaurants and chefs in Orange County and Latino-owned wineries in Napa and Baja together in a celebration of culture. Proceeds from all the ticket sales went toward supporting the Orange County health services and programs that AltaMed spearheads in underserved communities. When I was Housing Manager for the City of Huntington Beach, I funded Alta Med through the City's CDBG program and am very knowledgable about the great services they provide especially in a country that still has an imperfect and expensive healthcare system. What was cool about this event was actually seeing, meeting and talking to the chefs/winemakers. These are the people who chose their path, who chose their own story. The passion from chefs such as Beto Ygei from 930 Sushi (excellent spicy yellowtail), Carlos Selgado of Taco Maria (wonderful scallop here), Gabbi Patrick (I think they did a scallop dish too), Rogelio Martinez of Casa Oaxaca (so excited was he about his sorbets and ice cream), and winemakers such as Alex, Oscar and Lola Llamas (best wines at event and great people too who invited us to hang out afterwards). This is the type of event that I love to attend and is only second to the San Jose Jazz Festival as favorite yelp events of this kind that I was lucky enough to get tickets from Yelp. Was disappointed in the Baja wines as there was little balance or flavor with those wines, and a lot of rustic smells and astrigent finishes. However given that when traveling the local wines always taste better when you are visiting their area (Cinque Terre was an example of this where the wines are fabulous only when you are outdoors on a patio with a great view eating a sublime pesto dish in Italy), I will visit Baja soon and visit the better wineries on their home turf ;-) Thanks again Yelp for this event! I…read morewas worried about rain but it cleared up right before the event started which led to the vendors scrambling to set up their tents. It was warm and muggy but there was plenty of food and drink for all the guests to enjoy. There were plenty of Napa and Baja wine vendors pouring wine throughout the event along with restaurants from LA, OC, and Baja. Some of my favorite food vendors were Anepalco's Cafe, Taco Maria, Gabbi's Mexican Kitchen, and Deckman's en el Mogor. Wine was definitely plentiful as was the food. There was a wine wheel that you could spin for $20, which went to the Women in Action charity and in turn you won a wine bottle valued anywhere from $40 to $80. I won an $80 bottle of wine. It was pretty awesome. There were tables for all the guests to lounge and mingle at. The event was held at Mission San Juan Capistrano which I had never visited before. We were allowed to walk around the exhibits while the Mission was closed to the public. Pretty cool. Thanks to Yelp OC for the tickets. My +1 and I had a great time.

Well this little thing called coronavirus happened in the meantime, and so our March tour was shut down. They offered us a full refund or to postpone the tour for a later date. We opted for the full refund. This was in mid to late March. At the end of April, after weeks of delays and still no refund, I wrote a review on yelp expressing my frustration about this situation. That same day, the Fun Belly owner Carlos got in touch with me and over the next few messages basically told me that Fun Belly themselves don't handle billing/refunds (instead employing a company called EzTix), but that he would get in touch with his rep at EzTix and try to make things right. Within 2 days our refund had been issued. Wow. So while I didn't have the opportunity to go on the food tour, I still think it's important for prospective customers to know that Fun Belly has an owner with some real integrity. It would have been so easy for Carlos to say, "Well, the refund is out of my hands, go deal with it yourselves", but he went the extra mile to make things right. Once this shutdown is over and I'm actually allowed to leave my house, we'll definitely rebook for the food tour we never got an opportunity to go on. I know we'll be in good hands. Jody the new owner was our guide and we all left with a new outlook on the city of Pasadena and its Old Town history. Second, new locations were added since my last tour. OMG! We had Sipping Chocolate & Venezuelan Chicken Empanadas from Amara Cafe, Chicken Wraps & Pickles from Sincerely Syria, Samosa's & Veggie Pakora from Tibet Nepal House, Garlic Naan, Curry Chicken & more from New Delhi Palace, Scones & Two Pots of Delicious Teas from Chado Tea Room. The Chado staff also gave us a complimentary Iced Hibiscus Tea to try. Last but not least we had wonderful Chocolate Candy from Mignon Chocolate. We were even allowed time to shop for goodies in the great Old Town specialty stores. There is plenty of parking in a garage less than five minutes from the starting point. She told us the history of the market and the surrounding area and then took us through the market to sample of the top places. My daughter doesn't even like falafel but she loved the one we ate. Jody told us about the vendors and food. We were part of a small group which allowed us to take our time and really feel like locals. I highly recommend their tours if you want to eat, explore and learn about LA. So fun being tourists in our own town. Can't wait to try one of the other tours. Come hungry because you leave stuffed.
