It's not overly polished, but that's part of the appeal. There were several creative obstacles and challenges that we hadn't seen at other mini golf spots, which kept things interesting and fun throughout the round. After golf, we checked out the arcade. There was a good variety of games, and my son was definitely entertained, which is always a win. It felt like a well-rounded spot for a casual outing. The restrooms were clean, and the staff was friendly enough--nothing over the top, but perfectly pleasant. One thing that did take away from the experience a bit was the number of very young kids running around unsupervised. I'm talking maybe 4 years old or so, and they kept interrupting our game. As a parent, I completely understand how challenging it can be to keep an eye on little ones, but I'm also a bit competitive, so it definitely threw off my groove. Not the venue's fault, just something to be aware of--there may be some tiny, energetic free spirits roaming around. Also, while it was a warm day, it wasn't quite as cool as I expected it to be, which made it a little less comfortable than ideal. Overall, though, it's a fun, family-friendly spot with a unique mini golf course and enough activities to keep kids entertained. I'd come back--just maybe with slightly lower expectations for personal space on the course.

I showed up early to the empty building but still needed to wait for my reservation despite no other visitors so I'm pretty glad that it was located in a walkable location. My party did the Racing + FOX 1 combo. The racing sim was alright. Not that much different than what I can experience at the usual arcades. The dogfighting Sim was the highlight of the night. The set up where each individual has their own replica of a cockpit made it really immersive. I thought the cockpit would also move according to how we maneuver the jet, but that wasn't the case. The staff would also communicate to all of us during our dogfight, commentating on who took down whose plane. It was a decent experience, but I'm not sure if it's something I would do again.

Since I knew I would be there all weekend, I convinced two of my friends to join me in the go kart shenanigans. Armahni(?) and his girlfriend took us around the lake and alongside the canal for an hour or so ride. The best part was when we had the chance to "put the pedal to the medal" (as my grandmother would say lol) and race each other. To actually be able to ride the karts outdoors instead of indoors, and not be on a track made the experience even better. Good times! If you haven't done this yet, you're missing out! : )

A fun factory tour if you're in the area!…read more If you are traveling through the Fountain Valley area, the free Yakult Factory Tour is a fantastic gem of a stop. We integrated a Wednesday 2:00 PM tour into our road trip from the Bay Area down to Carlsbad (Legoland), and it was a highly worthwhile 60-minute break for the whole family. While the official online policy states that children must be five years or older, we brought our three and six-year-old boys and had absolutely no issues. The one-hour tour is surprisingly engaging, even for young kids. It covers a high-level history of the brand, a look at some neat historical memorabilia, and a walk through of the active factory floor where you can see the fermentation, bottling and packaging process, though photos are unfortunately not allowed in that section. They are also incredibly generous, providing free squishy toys alongside full size samples of both the classic and low-calorie Yakult drinks. Growing up drinking Yakult when I visited my grandparents in Taiwan and getting them as treats in the bay, it was fascinating for me to learn more about its history after its founding in Japan, and both of our boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves. When you arrive (or before you leave), there are a couple of great photo opportunities outside the factory, including a life-size Yakult bottle. I also asked the staff if they plan to sell branded merchandise in the future, and they mentioned it is highly likely in the works, though not available just yet. While we wouldn't suggest making a dedicated trip just for this, it is a highly recommended, high-value stop if you are already traveling through the area. Our boys also are very excited now when we get Yakult from the local Asian grocery store and know that you should drink one bottle a day for the right amount of probiotics :)

We had so much fun on our Yakult Factory tour!…read more Our tour guide went over the history of Yakult, discussed the benefits of probiotics, and led us through the factory where Yakult is made from start to finish. We even got to sample Yakult (regular) and Yakult Light (low calorie version). At the end of our tour they handed out cute Yakult stickers as souvenirs. No gift shop :( Some notable things I learned on the tour: -Yakult is not supposed to be frozen. Freezing/thawing Yakult kills the probiotics -The L. paracasei strain Shirota has been proven to survive in stomach acid conditions so that they make it into your intestines alive -Yakult will be opening their second US factory in Georgia! And it will be way bigger! FREE tours can be booked on their website. Tours are only available on weekdays and last about an hour. Plenty of parking in their parking lot. No photography during the factory portion.

My team and I really enjoyed running around Huntington Beach! It was a really beautiful day and you can't beat being right along the water. The puzzles we thought were on the easy side, but still challenging enough where we took over an hour to complete from start to finish. Most of our team are engineers so we loved the puzzles and caught on quick. The gals who run the activity mentioned that they have other versions that are much more challenging, so we may be interested in the future. Overall, I'd recommend Downtown Detectives! The cost was affordable and we had a blast.

Be sure to bring your ticket and they will validate it. The lobby is small, with two padded benches and a few chairs. Note that they do not have restrooms inside. Use the public mall restrooms about one hundred feet north of their location. Waivers can be signed online ahead of time. We did their Specter Inspectors room in which you try to catch all of the ghosts in an abandoned house to escape. This room can be done with either a regular spooky feel or a more spooky option when booking (no live actor for either). We brought my girlfriends mom for her birthday, so we did the regular spooky version. The room is mostly non-linear and the décor is excellent. There are some sound and light effects and a few jump scares. There are a lot of logic puzzles, as well as mechanical puzzles, and some locks, keys, and keypads. This is their hardest room, and I would agree that is it definitely hard with a lot to do. There are a total of 13 ghosts to catch and we caught eight before our time ran out. Our game master said almost no one manages to catch all 13. Regardless of how many you catch, everybody gets to experience the grand finale which I won't give away. We had no other plans for the afternoon and they had some availability, so we also did their Surf's Up room. This is a very family friendly room in which you're grounded but your parents are gone for an hour and you're trying to find your surfboard to go catch some waves. The room is fairly linear and the décor goes very well with the theme. This room has a good mix of logic and mechanical puzzles with only a few key locks and combos. I would say this is a medium difficulty room and we escaped with a little over five minutes left. Both rooms, and I'm guessing the others too, definitely lean heavy on logic puzzles, so bring your A game. Our game masters Joseph and Delilah were so fun, and you can tell they love what they do. Their prices are very reasonable at $45 per person, except that parties of two are $60 per person on Saturday and Sunday. We received a 15% same day booking discount on our second game. They have only been open for a few months, and it is great to see a new escape room business jump out of the gate strong. They offer four rooms with various themes and difficulty levels to suit everybody. The variety of puzzles is great and the prices are very reasonable. If you love escape rooms, come try some here!

We have now played three of their four rooms (the fourth room will be coming out in June 2026) and all were fantastic experiences that had such unique themes! The puzzles were logical and satisfying, with a good balance of challenge and flow. One thing I really appreciated was how they incorporated the game master into the experience as an actual character. For me, it added an extra layer of personalization and made the rooms feel extra special! What really sets Surf City Escapes apart, though, are the themes. I've done a lot of escape rooms, and I've never seen a surf-themed room quite like Surf's Up! You can tell there are personal touches throughout the experience that reflect the owner's creativity and passio for what they do. Production value here is high and I didn't expect to leave as impressed as I was! The location might be a hit or miss depending on how you look at it. Without validation, the parking could be expensive so let the parking office know that you are here for Surf City if you are inside the complex. They have a policy that they will only validate if you spend more than $200+, so we mentioned that we did spend that amount on escape rooms and they validated us! The entire team is accommodating, friendly and welcoming. I am SO impressed that I will definitely be back when Sherlock opens up.
