This is my favorite place ever! If I could live here, I would. The service is incredibly friendly, and the staff always make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. Even the owner goes out of their way to be kind, personable, and welcoming. Their wines are amazing and delicious. Very high quality, and very reasonably priced. They regularly create new styles and batches, so definitely ask what's new when you visit. They also host fun special events that make the experience even better. One thing I really love is that you can bring in your own food. They do also offer charcuterie boards that are absolutely delicious, although they sometimes sell out because they're so popular. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and truly feels like home. Everyone here is genuinely friendly, which is rare to find these days. I always leave in a better mood than when I arrived. We had a wonderful experience tasting DiMaggio's wines with a side of hospitality by Barbara. It's not everyday you get to learn about wine making from the owners. They had some unique varietals with a dedicated love of the craft and Italian grapes in particular. Much to our delight, they also had botanical wine! As a tea afficionado this was a fun find. Came here on a Friday night, and I was immediately struck by the personable warmth in the host Barbara and her team. They are lively and generous with pours. The wines are very good...we got a lovely tasting series...with tasting notes commentary from the capable host Barbara. Unusual: ferment lavendar and hibiscus into wines? I like originality. They have a port wine that is absolutely spectacular. Every one of their labels and names is well-crafted and reflects the thought they put into their wines. They make the wines here with grapes bought from the region. This place is sure to be a warm, engaging date night place, or a chatty place to visit with friends. They have "Sip and Paint" and comedy nights and various special events to boost their wines. It's like a next level local pub. It's time for a quarantine update for Thief and Barrel. They've adapted quickly to pandemic times by starting a Virtual Happy Hour and Virtual Wine Tastings. I've been fortunate enough to attend several of their virtual events and am so impressed with how professional and fun they've been. Barbara exemplifies the perfect hostess, checking in with everyone, keeping conversation moving along and helping everyone feel included. And what can I say about Dimaggio? His expertise and passion for all things wine-related sets a tone of education and enjoyment, with a down-to-earth attitude that makes wine accessible to all. An absolute joy! So how does a virutal wine-tasting work? First, you will sign up online. Then, they will ship a carefully packaged box of six tiny little wine bottles to you directly. (Honestly, the bottles are so cute that even though we're supposed to return them, I'm tempted to keep them.) I've had the pleasure of participating in both the Napa and Sonoma tastings; both batches arrived on time and completely intact. Then, you log on to Zoom and taste wines with one of the best sommeliers around *and* a bunch of other wine enthusiasts. And you will certainly get your money's worth; we went way over time for both tastings, with Dimaggio telling stories (ask him about Jerry Garcia) and answering our questions patiently. An added bonus? I get to hang out with my friend Yelper Sue Z and engage in private Zoom chats, kinda like passing notes in class. I look forward to many more Virtual Wine Tastings with Thief and Barrel. As their brick and mortar location is in the Antelope Valley, it can be a bit challenging to participate physically and Zoom offers a wonderful alternative. I'll be back. What a gem in the AV! Russ, DiMaggio, and Barbara are the charming owners and they brighten this space with their warmth and personality. My husband and I came on a rainy afternoon and tried their $10 tasting where you can choose from 8 different wines. The options had a mix of white and red wines. The pours are fair. The establishment doesn't offer food aside from wine crackers but we were told that we were welcome to bring our own food. That's a plus. I'll definitely bring my favorite cheese next time. The interior is small and intimate. The back room where the barrels are kept is bigger and more spacious. DiMaggio gave us a quick tour and imparted his wine knowledge on us. We even got to try their port wine that they will be serving come February. Very cool stuff! If this is your first time visiting or your first time going wine tasting I highly recommend sitting at the counter. You can't beat their free entertainment. Thief & Barrel is an amazing place to try wonderful wines. Barbara is so helpful and she is great at giving you a history of the wines. DiMaggio, the winemaker, is so kind and sat with us and taught us about the different wines as we tasted. We ended up trying a variety of different wines, getting three glasses, sharing a charcuterie board, and buying two bottles. If you like something different, make sure to try their hibiscus wine. My two favorite wines were the Peach Mango Sparkling and the 2019 Thief & Barrel Syrah. The sparkling wine is perfect for the summer, and the Syrah is smooth and delicious. If I could give 20 stars I would! Am so happy the AV has this wonderful winery now and am sad that I have just discovered it. A friend asked me to come here and that's when I met Barbara, who is the sweetest and most knowledgeable person! She made everyone feel at home, she was very detailed during our wine tastings and offered so many suggestions for when to drink certain wines. I brought a friend back a few weeks later and Barbara remembered my name ! As well as the names of the friends I had been there with and the wines we had. Wow! The customer service is just top notch. I came back today, after way too much time, even though I keep telling friends about this place and really need to come more often! But I came back to pick up a sparkling wine for an event and Barbara greeted me like an old friend. When I said I needed a bottle to go, DiMaggio made sure it was chilled and had me on my way , all with a smile. I loooove it here! She went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time! During our tasting, one of the wine makers stopped in and she had him pour his wine for us! He even gave us a tour of the place!
