I am a retired dental professional and in past years have worked chair-side for top Orange County Dentists and Endodontists; both in front office and as a chair-side assistant. This guy is as arrogant as they come. But he has absolutely no reason to think so highly of himself, because in addition to his lack of chair-side manner, the endodontic treatment he performed failed. He attacked my tooth with such a vengeance that the root cracked and now I will lose the tooth altogether. He is rude beyond credibility; demonstrating a complete lack of patience and understanding for the comfort and needs of the person sitting in his dental chair. I suffer from vertigo and he literally stood me on my head; refusing to make even the slightest of adjustments to accommodate my condition. I asked him to please lower the chair slowly so that my inner ear could adjust and he wouldn't even do that much. His manner was gruff and self-serving. Run!!!!! He demonstrably indicates that he doesn't care about the patient, and is completely condescending towards them, no doubt stemming from his high opinion of himself. Just take a look at his photo, provided on this site. His demeanor say's "I am hot stuff and superior to you, therefore I am the only one who has a say in this scenario!" Excuse me sir, but I don't concur. The patient matters the most in my experience and according to the highest of professional values which I have observed from other practitioners. read more

Was referred by my dentist to get an expert opinion about why my tooth hurts and if I need a root canal. The regular dentist found no cavities or crack to explain my condition. Thien didn't do any better. Thien only told me what I already knew: my tooth hurts when I eat or drink things that are hot. Felt like a waste of time and money for this "expert" opinion. He even said that my tooth had no bacteria in it that is causing the pain. A quick check on Wikipedia did far more to educate me on what is happening. It is almost guaranteed that there is bacteria in my tooth's pulp that is causing the swelling and pain, especially under hot food/liquid conditions. Now I thought I might fight this off with antibiotics, but Wikipedia's excellent article pointed out that this is usually not effective and therefore no longer recommended. Thien's office was completely empty and you can tell they are hurting for business and they will always encourage you to get a root canal even if there is a possibility that your tooth could slowly die in place and remain trouble free for a very long time without getting any root canal treatment (check Wikipedia pulpitis article.) While Thien didn't specifically say "I recommend you get a root canal", what he did was comical. He told me I have three options: 1) do nothing 2) pull the tooth out (are you crazy?) and 3) get a root canal. When he gave me the last option, he stared straight into my eyes for about 1 minute, as if he was trying to will me into saying "I'll pick door number 3!" What a joke! I can't say if his service is any good because I have not and will not use him. His office seems dated, his diagnostic techniques were crude, his equipment looked old, and his professional advice is not keeping up with modern advancements. I went to Root Vision Endo in Lakewood more than 15 years ago and at that time they were more advanced than this place is today, plus they are always busy there doing one root canal after another. We came to Dr. Nguyen per recommendation of our general dentist, as I suffered a serious infection at the base of my 2 molars. I had been warned by my general dentist that the case would be very difficult. I needed a total of 3 visits at his office. Each visit, Dr.Nguyen spent at least 1 hour per visit to eradicate the infection and to replace the old root canals with new ones. His high tech office made the whole process smooth and more effective with CT scan and 3 D models. He got the work done, and his final X rays proved the work was done to perfection per review of a 3rd dentist who would finish it with 2 new crowns. His wife, the front desk receptionist, was very pleasant and down to earth. His staff was polite and very courteous. His final charge was surprisingly low for the amount of work and hours spent. As a medical doctor myself, I tend to be more critical to services provided to me. In this case, I can't complain and can't be happier. Dr. Nguyen is fantastic! He really knows his stuff, but is friendly and casual. His bedside manner is awesome, and he often jokes with his patients to put them at ease. I've had an irrational fear of dentists since forever, and when I came in for my root canal, I was really worried. Dr. Nguyen and his great staff really put me at ease. Dr. Nguyen explained the procedure to me and answered all my questions. I knew I was in very capable hands. The procedure was surprisingly minimally painful, considering all the work they had to do. Dr. Nguyen even called me later to check on me and the pain levels, which had subsided by then. That's some top notch service right there and real patient care. The office is clean, comfortable, and efficient. The technology is all modern and top of the line. There's light music in the background that puts you a little more at ease while you're in the chair. I would highly recommend Dr. Nguyen for a root canal and any other service you might need! Well knowledge, trained and great patient care. If you need root canals done (hope not anytime soon), he is the doctor to go to. I trust him to give me an honest opinion. I had couple of root canals done in the past and the experience was positive. Few days ago, my old crown came off and my general dentist said I need a root canal so I went to Dr. Nguyen. He looked at it more closely and he said, the tooth can be saved and I do not need a root canal. He took me to dentist downstairs to get a second opinion and the dentist agreed. My dentist did a successful root canal for my husband almost 2 decades ago, but he no longer does root canal, so he referred to Dr. Nguyen. Due to a major traffic jam, I was late and nervous for my consultation but was immediately put at ease. Dr. Nguyen confirmed my dentist's findings of "internal resorption", an idiopathic condition, and recommended several treatment methods. I chose the root canal with implant and was quite apprehensive about the tooth extraction. The tooth was pulled and I had minimal pain with no need for any pain medication.
