Don't go here for treatment! I was referred by my general dentist for a re treat on my molar. I was treated by Dr. Nathanial Tasi. It took 2 painful hours and a decent size bag to retreat my root canal for it to fail 6 months later. My tooth became infected with an oral fistula. I decided to pull the tooth to not have to go through that again. I called the office to inform and ask why my root canal became infected and never received a call back. My root canal experience is almost like a walk in the park. So smooth. I almost fell asleep 3 times. I also like the special glasses where we can watch YouTube. I had to come here on Halloween unexpectedly for my first root canal after waking up with a swollen check/abscess. I've always been terrified of having to have one of these done, but I can't even explain to you the great care I received here. Everyone was so incredibly nice & Dr Justice did a fantastic job on my root canal. I'm an 83 year old lawyer who retired on my 80th birthday after 60 years of legal experience with healthcare providers and 22 years of marriage to a Kaiser physician before a change in wives 20 years ago. Starting when I was 16 years old I learned the benefit of getting second or third or fifth or nineteenth opinions on a diagnosis. If I had followed all of the first opinions on health matters I got I would be very dead long ago. So when my dentist said I had a fractured lower molar root and the molar had to be extracted I did the usual currently wise action: I consulted Dr. Google who said that an amputation properly done of a properly considered and cared for molar root had a 15 year 90% success rate. So I went to my usual endodontist who charged me $400 to confirm that the molar had to come out. Keeping Dr. Google's advice in mind (remember that there were specified conditions for success in Dr. Google's advice) I conducted a review of Yelp and Google reviews of endodontists in SoCal. SoCal Endodontists (SoCal) sounded good so I paid another $400 for another opinion which essentially agreed with Dr. Google although being careful professionals they warned that root amputations sometimes don't work out. Being a lawyer I am good at evaluating risk opinions and I went back to the original endodontist who recommended extraction and asked him why SoCal said root amputation was a possibility and why didn't he recommend such a procedure. Basically knowing how health care professionals operate I suspected that he was busy with easy root canals and didn't want any hard stuff to do. He replied that he didn't do amputations any more and sends them to SoCal. I asked him if SoCal was reliable and competent and he said SoCal was reliable and competent. So I want back to SoCal. Four months ago they did the root amputation which cost me $2,400. It wasn't what I expected. Now I have a molar with a crown with one root and a big gap between the bottom of the crowned tooth (which had a root canal with a post in the remaining root long ago) and my gums. But other than having to brush under one of the molar roots instead of brushing around it I don't know that I had any tooth problem. Dr. Google was correct, and so was SoCal. Beware of people wearing white coats and making believe they know what they are doing. Never ever rely on a first opinion. Use your brain because 50% or more of first healthcare opinions are wrong and some could kill you. And a lot of such opinions are just excuses to send a bill to you. That's why I've been with Kaiser since 1982. If it ain't necessary they don't do it (and they also listen to Dr. Google and now they have their own version of Dr. Google.) But I'm pleased for the purpose of this review to recommend that you consider SoCal for your endodontist needs as one of the recommended opinions you should get. Also be careful of implants. Dr. Google says that generally keeping a tooth root you have, if possible, is generally better than having someone screw something into your jaw bones which can cause you a lot of problems and cost you a lot. So far so good. I will update if the tooth falls out or something like that happens. In the meantime take calcium and D3 supplements and get a lot of exercise and brush well around (and if appropriate under) your molars. read more

The women at the front desk are so kind and set up my appointment very quickly. The nurses were exceptional and very knowledgeable. Having past root canals that turned into horror stories, my dentist referred me here for my latest root canals (one is scheduled for later). I was skeptical before arrival, I've had 3 other root canals done by different local endodontists with terrible experiences. Needless to say I was pretty nervous during the initial consult. Dr. Justice is an outstanding endodontist. She listened to my concerns, past experiences, and came up with a plan. I knew I landed at the right place. Of course I was having a rear molar done today, but I can honestly say for the first time ever the root canal procedure conducted by Dr. Justice was pain free!! I can't say enough positive things about our experience with Dr. Justice, Ashely Ricci and the rest of the staff at Southern California Endodontics! They are truly life savers. My 10-year-old son broke 2 of his teeth while playing hockey and I first took him to see the dentist he typically sees for his regular checkups & cleanings. Their first recommendation was to do a root canal and crown on one of his teeth and a crown on the other. When I went to see Dr. Justice for a second opinion I was extremely relieved to hear her expert opinion on an alternative way to approach this situation so that my son would not unnecessarily have to have 2 crowns at such a young age. Office was clean and sanitary, which is #1 to me. Staff was polite, professional and helpful, which is nice in this day and age. Dr. Justice is the most skillful dentist I have ever been to. She knows exactly how to keep you comfortable during a root canal and I can say I have had some past horrible experiences. I had no pain and she was done in no time. Wow, I cannot fully express how relieved and grateful I am to have gone to Dr. Justice for my root canal treatment. It's very normal for me to have very intense panic attacks at the dentist because I have a very sensitive gag reflex and the smell of the metal tools get me really nauseous. *Quick backstory* - My previous dentist (who I no longer go to) attempted to do a root canal procedure but I got the worst panic attack to the point of hyperventilation and nonstop crying. I was so traumatized with the experience that my root canal procedure was temporarily put on hold and I didn't want to go back to the dentist. Two years later leading up to this month, I was recommended by my new primary dentist to go to Dr. Justice to finally get this root canal procedure done. I was extremely nervous and worried I'll get a panic attack again, but the medication she prescribed me helped immensely with my anxiety. During my appt. today, throughout the entire procedure (which was only about 30 min), Dr. Justice was SO gentle! If she felt that something was going to be painful or cause pressure, she first let me know and reassured me we can take breaks if needed. Because she gave me so much reassurance and was gentle with my tooth throughout the procedure, I started feeling calmer because I trusted that everything will be okay. I'm so grateful for her patience too because due to my sensitive gag reflex, my mouth kept trying to close. I appreciate that Dr. Justice was not pressuring me to keep my mouth wide open and was just making sure I felt comfortable. Out of the entire procedure, the only pain you might feel is the tiny pinch when the needle goes in at the beginning after she puts on the numbing gel. Just a heads up, even that small pinch didn't hurt and it didn't give me anxiety! Besides that, nothing else hurt :) I hope I don't have any more future issues with my teeth, but I feel glad/relieved that I can always go to Dr. Justice if anything else comes up. *Some things that helped me stay calm during the procedure is 1) to bring your headphones/earbuds and stream your favorite movie on your phone during the procedure. You can't watch it, but because I pretty much memorized the scenes of my favorite movie, I just imagined the scenes playing out while my eyes were closed. It helped me focus on something else and it helped tune out the noises of the dental metal tools. 2) Another tip is to bring a squeeze ball or small toy! It put me at ease having something to hold/squeeze when I felt uncomfortable at times. read more

Despite the fact that I used to be a dental assistant, I was a bit anxious about having to have my first root canal. Dr. Greiner's office got me in for my consultation incredibly fast. Since there wasn't time for my procedure before I was leaving for vacation in a isolated area, he made sure I had some extra antibiotics, in case I needed them (and I did). Last Thursday I began noticing what felt like sensitivity to hot and cold on my lower back left jaw area in the molar aisle if you will. I thought maybe it was because I stopped using my Sensodyne Toothpaste or, my gums had receded a little from when I brushed to hard; nope not that fortunate here. What had happened was I had eaten some candy and it fractured my second molar from the back on the lower left side and, the old filling and tooth were pressing on my nerve. After realizing that all of the Percocet, Tylenol #4 and Ibuprofen I had wasn't going to solve this problem I went to my dentist to assess the problem and get this taken care of. My insurance does not cover what my dentist told me was wrong-"you need a root canal and, not only does your insurance not cover it we don't do them here". Yes, that's right Yelpers new policies are now tapped out and you need to see a specialist for things when your dental Insurance doesn't cover the procedure and dentists are saving on malpractice Insurance by not doing these procedures. So, after 7 excruciating painful days and my visit to my dentist I went on a referral to So.Cal. Endodontics today, had x-rays, got numbed up for the pain, met with my Endodontist and, just as luck would have it someone cancelled for a 1 PM appt.; otherwise I would have had to come back tomorrow. So, I chilled pain free for 2 hours and this is how the best of the best went down: Arlette form the beginning phone call to the end was so helpful I wish she could be my BFF, Luis who did my x-rays was so patient, professional and empathetic. Dr, Hein was so compassionate as he was numbing me up and explained things so thoroughly that I can still repeat them 5 hours later; this man has the mellow of a chello and the patience of Job. BTW their x-rays are right on a HD screen seen right away and they can determine length and size during a procedure to insure that everything is done correctly. The procedure was painless and Heather who was assisting Dr. Hein was an absolute gem of a professional with a great sense of humor and compassion. Dr Hein was explaining things as he was doing them and always checking in with me to be sure I was okay; I mean peeps we are talking high tech stuff here. I felt very safe, comfort and empathy to the point of tears because they also made accommodations financially too. I financed my fee for 12 months at no interest if I pay it off in a year and, I was approved on the spot. Nothing like adding to your good FICA Score I always say. From the wonderful staff up front (you all know who you are) to Dr. Hein, Heather and Luis my sincerest thanks and love; I cannot remember when I was treated so kindly and compassionately; your whole office has energy that you all [care] not just about your patients but yourselves too. See, that trickles down to the patients when you're a fine example of a professional team; I can see why people from other offices were bringing in such wonderful holiday goodies to you .
