Things From Another World is a comic shop that is right by the corporate offices for Dark Horse comics in downtown Milwaukee, Oregon. I'm not sure if this comic shop is tied to Dark Horse comics or if the ownership of this business is separate. Perhaps it's just here because Dark Horse doesn't really have a place where visitors can go to shop let alone hope for a tour of the offices and people are craving to shop for comics once arriving here. The selection is pretty impressive for comics. They cover the big companies which is Marvel and DC and of course there are Dark Horse comics too as well as other more independent comic companies . My other priority when coming to comic shops is to look at their action figure selection. Mainly to see what new Marvel Legends figures are out and at one point Star Wars figures. The selection for that kind of stuff isn't bad. I've seen places with a wider inventory of that stuff but not bad. I do like the location of this shop in downtown Milwaukee and any nearby comic geek would and should be giddy about coming here. What a joke. This place is great until you decide to join their membership program. Sending issues late, shipping wrong issues, or just NOT sending issues has been my experience with this company. They have a tendency to have RIDICULOUS prices on their CGC comics as well, as if it's a kid with newly found Death of Superman comic. They also don't pay attention to sales procedure or rules for distribution - as Bad Idea comics had a limit of 1 issue per person and they sold me 2 first edition copies of Eniac in 1 visit. I recently had them cancel a box due to myself being out of town for work - even though I told the representative that I would be returning to town to pick up the stack in 3 weeks. I told him I work out of town for somewhat long periods of time and that when in town, I've spent hundreds of dollars at their two locations on a bi-weekly basis. He snidely made passive aggressive remarks about how I needed to pick them up on a regular basis and that they couldn't hold them - which is the exact reason for a box. I told him that I had already told him I would be picking up the entire stack December 1st when returning to town and hung up the phone. The representative called me back 15 minutes later and stated that he would be closing my box due to a "company decision" to do so. Wow. They are great with the look and feel of their business until you actually become a dedicated client, then you can see the overall uncaring and complete disregard for the customer that this cash-grabbing joke of a business has. Tell you what. Make some online orders for 3 months and let me know how many times they screw it up. Talk to y'all soon. read more

$16 for shipping on ONE comic in a flat envelope with no extra padding or anything. When I saw this was going to ship I tried to cancel the order. They said they would look into it and shipped it anyway. No marking on the shipping label on how much shipping actually cost. Total Rip-off Avoid at all costs! read more

When trying to "keep it local" goes wrong. Pre-ordered a book from TFAW. Keep in mind I'd gotten a book before, shipping was $2.99. I live 2 miles from the store. Once my pre-order was getting ready to ship, tfaw emailed me. I saw that they were going to charge me $15 for shipping this time. I immediately emailed their customer service to cancel order #001308202. They ignored my cancellation request and A WEEK LATER mailed the book, charging me $18 (the book itself only $2.79). When the fedex delivery came I refused the book and the fedex driver wrote "REFUSED" on the package and left. It's been weeks and tfaw will not refund me or. I also asked to have my account deleted, they said I cannot do that. At least they responded to that request (sarcasm). I'm very disgusted by tfaw business practices and wanted to come here to warn others. read more

Zero customer service. I've inquired months about unfilled orders without any reply. They keep items on your preorder list for years so you can't close your account. They've removed comics that were ordered 3 months in advance without any explanation. They don't even notify you. It's always comic's that become very hot. I think I've got 3 copies on order so I don't pick them up when I could. By the time they cancel my order they are unattainable without paying 10x or more cover price, which is what I feel like they are doing. Very untrustworthy. Shipping is also much higher than other similar businesses and they make no effort to combine your orders to save money on shipping. I'm finished with them. read more

Their mail order service is the worst I have ever experienced. Avoid it at all costs. They received my pre-order over six-weeks late. They did not contact me at all about it in those 6 weeks, but charged me randomly after I forgot about the order with shipping info. At that point I had already purchased the product elsewhere. When I received that email with the shipping info, I didn't berate them for being so late, which would have been completely justified, but I stated rather angrily that I had moved in that lag time. They stated that as long as I provided a forwarding address, it'd be fine. Nope. Delivered to my old address. TFAW sucks. read more

Seems like what once was an amazing haven for all things Comics is now a ghost of it's former grand self. Customer service is so lacking, I get it, it's the understaffing and shipping challenges. Everyone's dealing with all the same things, but apparently TFAW can't even communicate delays with customers, or have honest listings on their site anymore. Preorder from November still just hanging out not doing a dang thing. Was told mid-December it would ship in a couple weeks due to them being behind. Further looking around on the item led me to find it wasn't even slated to be PUBLISHED until January 2022. So why was it listed with a sale date of 12/8/21 on the Pre-Order??? Now it's 1/31/22 and I could go to Amazon and have the item in 2 days. Instead I'm making excuses for another local PDX biz that's seen far better days. read more

I loved TFAW until today. Yesterday I clicked preorder on a couple comics, figured out they weren't what I wanted, went to remove them, and couldn't. I emailed TFAW to cancel the preorders and was told it would put a strike on my account, and I already had two. I was never told about any strikes. I had asked them to remove a couple items before which were *very* late on fulfillment, but wasn't told anything about getting a "strike." I fell in love with comic books during the mid-1990's, and had no idea that Marvel comics had such an interconnected universe to discover. Well, I ordered four beautiful back issues of Marvel comics and they were shipped to me in excellent condition. Now I have the new Scarlet Witch trade paperback ordered from Things From Another World. Altogether I have spent about $46.00 on the company's web store. The one thing you need to be wary of is going wild with preorders. I wish the site would warn you before locking in your order if it is past the FOC date. I'm an easily persuaded dude especially when it comes to all things nerdy. If you could see my collection of Scooby-Doo paraphernalia you'd wonder how many 5 year olds live in this house. None. Just me and the Mrs. So now you know why I NEED Scooby Apocalypse from my favorite comic book store. Stopped in tonight and saw the regular crew - the cool chick and her cliff bar. She's a quick wit, TFAW, remember that the next time you give her a raise. She deserves one. And then there's that regular dude (don't know his name) always knowledgeable, amiable and personable. Name tags, maybe? And then tonight i met Patrick - the dude up-sold me on a Bob's Burger toy and what do you know - jackpot. I scored Bob, himself - proudly sitting atop the PC box along with my Scooby Doo mug and other trinkets of lesser importance. Point is this - if I ever have a point - this store is the best thing about downtown Milwaukie - yup BEST thing, Dark Horse, Max Station and diner's, drive-in and dives Libbies. It's got personality, charm and just the right amount of nerd mixed in together. Of course I scored my fav comics from my box and blew my budget, but with a discount and a cool new Bob's Burgers toy who cares. Can't wait to see what I find next time I venture in. I came in today because the new release of a comic book my son and I enjoy came in. I got there shortly after noon and they were sold out. Which is no big deal but he said well let me see, we do have a variant issue for 25$ (regular is 5.99) at which I declined. So I go down the street to another local comic shop and find they have all versions (1 regular, and 2 variants of the issue) at regular price of 5.99. I asked the manager who was at the counter, what's the difference.between the copies and he said nothing it's just a different cover art. Beware of Things From Another World, they will try and rip you off if you're not knowledgeable of the items. Absolutely abysmal customer service. TFAW set my shipping type to 'overnight' and charged accordingly. I attempted to cancel before it was shipped, and while customer service apparently stops reading e-mails over the weekend, their shipping department does not pause. So I was charged $40 for overnight shipping I did not even get! I offered to split the difference with them and accept $20 as a trade off over the whole issue, and they refused to even try to meet me halfway. Absolutely horrid. While I doubt anyone in the store cares about this matter, on the off chance you do, know you have soured an item I was wishing for since 2005. 'Overnight shipping' that supposedly was being processed Thursday; it's 9 PM on Tuesday, and I still don't have the item. read more

We drove from Tigard to check out this comic book store since we got a gift card for Christmas. It turned out the gift card was only only good for their on line store and the cashier was really nice advised us we could order online and have it delivered to the store to save shipping. Great toy collection! Got a Petit Bboy I've never seen before! And my husband found a older comic he hadn't read yet from Neil Gaiman. Almost got a Goku action figure, but I'll save that for online shopping. My only warning, don't drank 2 cups of coffee and then come to this neighborhood. We went to a dive bar having a funeral wake so I could use the restroom and that is a silly and memorable awkwardness I'll remember on my death bed. read more

This Black Friday we decided to forego the chaos and wander out of Portland to go geeking instead. This brought us to the beautiful historic town of Milwaukie. So picturesque and quiet, every turn we made felt like we were stepping into a live art gallery. Needless to say, this town is breathtaking and with the abundance of quaint little antique and collectible shops scattered around this small town, it fits our personalities perfectly. We could probably spend days here and never go to the same shop twice. Anyway, we fell in love with this place. There's so much fun to be had in this comic book shop because there's a little of everything here! Comics galore, toys, books, games and collectibles. The variety is great and the people are fun and friendly. They had their own Black Friday deals going on so we were sure to take advantage of that! Each of us came away with tons of new comics, some memorabilia and a bunch of other stuff. My daughter got some My Little Pony comics. My son got a graphic novel, comics, a drawing tutorial book. My nephew found some 3D Star Wars puzzles. I found some comics, cool magnets, Star Wars lightsaber chopsticks and a Weeping Angels tote (Dr. Who). We walked out happy!!! We didn't realize that the Dark Horse publishing house was located right across the street! So cool!!! When we come back to Oregon, this will be one of the "must's" on our list of places to visit. This is such a great store, very organized and staffed by some of the nicest people. Shawn and crew will go out of their wAy to ensure you or your kids find what you might need, be looking for or not know that you need it yet. They host games where kids of all ages can sit down together and play whatever game is the flavor of the day. The kids enjoy going in here so much that they will often ask to stop in and look around even if they know they won't be buying anything. They also like the staff so much that they often ask to bring in candy for them on our visit. Stop in - say hello and get some of your Christmas shopping out of the way!!! read more

You guys keep shipping my preorders One item at a time for the past few months and really ripping me off. I have spoken with customer service serveral times and you won't let me cancel preorders even though you are failing to ship them on time or ship items together. It's actually quite pathetic. You just charged me almost 18 dollars for one funko pop shipment, 8 for the pop and 8 for shipping.... When other pops pn my preorder list are released the same date and I have my preorders set to every 4 weeks so they should be consolidated. Shipping FYI does not cost that much to ship a funko either... I don't know why you guys can't either cancel my preorders as requested or ship out my preorders all together like you used to and you're supposed to. I also got charged so far for multiple shipments for the same comic book that I preordered 15 copies for. It has now been 3 shipments and I only recieved a portion of those 15. You're still going to eventually ship the rest one by one I'm sure and rip me off. It's unbelievable for you guys to think this os Okay and not fix this for me. I just want my account deleted and preorders gone because I never want to shop with you again. You guys will be seeing chargebacks if you keep shipping items individually. Honestly this is pretty criminal to think it is okay to ship out items one at a time and I end up spending almost 20 bucks for an 8 dollar funko, or spend almost 10 bucks for one single $3 comic to be shipped out instead of shipping them together. I just found this site online and placed my first order. Had a nice amount of back issues I needed, so make my order. During the checkout process, my only issue would be the shipping rates at 10 different rates and all of them I would say are a little higher than what most places would charge or get rates for, but it wasn't that extreme due to the ship times seemed way better. I think I had picked the cheapest one that was like $9.42 but it said 3-5 days ship time. When I received my receipt via email I was given a new shipment timeframe now of 7-13 days. It took way longer than expected and I don't remember seeing anything on the site when I placed my order about delays due to covid or any other reason, but after my first email about the delay that was posted on the site. They said it would ship out within the week I think. Packaged arrived in a Gemini shipper which is nice but only the shipper nothing covering the shipper or placed in another box. Again not a major issue for me since the Gemini shippers do hold up pretty well on their own. The comics came loose in a bag altogether which I didn't like. On the site, I see that they charge 25 cents for bags and boards when most shops now do it for free or for sub holders for freak went shoppers. So almost every issue came with corner damage and some looked to have damage even before being mailed out. I talked to customer service which took longer than I would like but that seems to be the way with every company now that nothing is quick with customer service, but was in a reasonable timeframe. I showed them pictures of the damage and asked what options I had. They replaced all the damaged issues with what they had on hand and what they didn't they would refund. So at first with the delays, damaged comics, and slower customer service I wasn't the happiest person. But the guy and the company made it right and I am happy to move forward and continue to place more orders knowing that they will do the right things for their customers. I would say the only real issue that does bother me after getting my 3rd order now, is that handling time and shipping are very slow. The handling time from start to finish seems like it averages like 5-10 days before they say the order is shipped. I pick the cheapest shipping option but still, I mail stuff to California from Pennsylvania all the time and it takes like 3-5 days no matter the cheapest way I ship. But I Still give 5 stars for the customer service and know I will continue to buy in the future. read more

There has been a lot of management turnover in the last few years and it shows. I have been a long time box customer and used to love the service that they provided. They always had my orders and knew what I was looking for and would hold items for me when they came in. Every turn over of management has gotten slightly worse, some bounced back and became great others you could tell this was a job they were killing time at. So I now occasionally have missed issues of books. Things that were on my pull list get missed or not added when I ask for them. Long time standing orders for games and action figures have been missed enough that I have to scramble to get them somewhere else. Think I am done, the box discount is just not worth it if you cannot get the items you want. read more

The Customer Service at Things From Another World is absolutely abysmal. They are nearly impossible to get help from. Phones go unanswered. They don't return messages. Chat is unmanned most of the time, and if by some miracle you do get an associate they are rude and unhelpful. I understand the staffing and logistics challenges these guys must be facing, and I have no issue with processing and fulfillment delays, but you totally lose me when your customer service associates are just outright rude and unhelpful. I will happily take my business elsewhere from now on. read more

I have tried numerous times to contact them over the course of the past 2 months, and each time I have been told that I "need to wait". My product was mistakenly sent back to them via USPS. Where do you go when you need a TARDIS? Duh, you go to Things From Another World. I was invited to a Doctor Who dinner party and could not show up without something relevant so I was on a mission to find a particular Dr. Who Mug. Alas they did not have it in stock but they did have an entire section of delightful Dr. Who things for me to choose from. If price was not an issue in my current lifestyle I would have easily layed down a hundred bucks or more on splendid Dr. Who items. Instead I struck to my budget and left as the proud owner of a TARDIS that has sound effects and a light on top as well as a new key chain that has 6 sound effects that are commonly recognized by Who fans. The single staff person on a Sunday morning was super helpful and friendly. read more

Full disclosure: I haven't visited the store -- I've only ordered online. I'll cut to the chase: I'm a comic collector and expect the items I purchase to be in pristine condition. The package I ordered was severely bent. Now I know that this wasn't completely TFAW's fault but I feel that they still could have packaged it better. I've ordered from other stores (who shall remain nameless lol) and received comics double-boarded inside and out with bubble wrap. That's not the case here, I'm afraid. The comics were packaged in a thin cardboard envelope with no extra protection whatsoever. I'm sure their store is probably wonderful but consider going elsewhere for online shopping. I love comics, I love rpg but I don't really know what I'm talking about or what I even like. I came in with some family from out of town because my younger cousin loves all of that stuff. I think I was the most excited though because I didn't realize the INSANE collection of things they had. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. I asked about groups that come in for D+D and they said that there is actually a group for Pathfinder (which I've always wanted to play!) and they invited me to come back and they'll introduce me to some of the people in the gaming community. I really am having a hard time w/ lack of friends in the area and also being incredibly bored so it meant so, so much to me. So thank you so much, I'll be back! read more

Shhh! Don't tell my spawn I've been here without them. It's was a cool moment when my little girl noticed a poster in the window was done by same artist who did Green Day album's art. And then she saw Tokidoki stuff and I don't think she heard anything else I said until it was time to leave. As for bringing the little man... The Lego's, the figurines and superheroes, oh crap! He's old enough to be fairly well behaved when we come in but young enough to turn red, grow horns and spew fire if I even think of leaving before he is ready. And by ready I mean that I have purchased 75% of the store. I've brought them in separately and that is only enforced with ground rules and bribery. It's a great meduim that has helped encourage the little ones to read and draw. So that being said, this place is pretty cool. If something isn't in stock, I can purchase on-line and ship to the store. All the sales people are helpful. In fact, Ethan went the extra step to help me locate something. On-line prices will differ but sometimes it's better to go to the brick and mortar. read more

Great staff, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. When I went there I was new to comics. 29 and ignorant. I had started with Sandman and finished it quick. With no one to turn to I simply walked into this store and told them I was new to comics and wanted their advice. The man asked me what kind of stories I liked and then guided me to a few different series. Now I'm addicted!!!!! They have all sort of comics, in traditional form and trades. What they don't have you can order from their convenient online store. They have toys and shirts if you're into the sporting of geek culture. I'm not. But some are and thats cool.....hough I have to say I was tempted to buy a Star Trek red shirt. If you're a comic nerd new to the area, hit this place up for all your comic needs. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! I cannot leave without buying something. I am super addicted. And the people are not some antisocial losers with asthma who drool and primp when they see a girl walk in. Although, some of the other patrons are a little on the "I live in my mothers basement and I am a 10th level dungeon master" type of people. The friendly clerks give good advice when it comes to "if you like this, you'll love that" kind of stuff. This place is absolutely amazing. Unfortunately I have never set foot inside the store, but I have been a long time online customer. So my review will be about my online experience. When it comes to comic book shops I always preach about supporting your local comic shops. But after a handful of word of mouth recommendations, I decided to give them a try. It is so easy for me to receive my comics now. I still go to my local shops for monthly orders, but Things From Another World is quickly starting to make me change that. Every comic I want or preorder I want is reduced in price, and that helps offset the price of shipping. Every package comes packed with care and is impossible to be bent unless maliciously done so. I never have to worry about missing a preorder or monthly issue, I just add what I want to my list and when the book is available I am charged and it is mailed out. In the past I would sometimes be very busy and not have time to swing by my local shop to grab my books, but with TFAW that's never an issue. Pun intended. I just sit back and wait for my comics to arrive. You can set up a delivery date of 1 week to 4 weeks to make sure your issues are bundled together and shipped out all at once. These guys are making it hard for me to go back to hitting my local shops once a month. Keep up the great work! read more
